    Instagram ads defrauded me

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 02:49 AM PDT

I've run ad campaigns for my page on Instagram before. This time, I caught a clear case of fraud.

Instagram was misleading me into believing that my ads were gaining me more followers than they actually were.

Whenever I went to my 'Ad tools' section and looked at the individual ad, I used to divide the ad spend by the 'total follows' for that particular ad.

I was quite happy with the results - it cost me less than $0.02 per follower, as per the analytics.

However, when the ads bill arrived in my inbox, and my credit card was charged, I divided the total charge by the number of followers I gained since I put out the ad, and it appears that Instagram's ad tools analytics were just...a total clusterfuck lie.

Dividing the amount my card was charged by the number of followers I gained since starting the ad, it was more like $0.2 per follower (ten times the cost as shown by the ad analytics).

The funny thing is the ad says I've gained almost 3 times as many followers than what is evident from how many followers I have on my page. It looks like they just make the ad analytics appear very successful so that you'll keep pumping money into the ads, whereas if you're diligent enough to actually check your follower count on your profile page, you'll see that they're totally taking you for a ride.

Needless to say, I am pissed.

    Trying to stay calm

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 06:32 AM PDT

I'm raising a seed round for $80k and talking to 6 potential angels. This whole journey of trying to raise funds has been a roller coaster ride. My self esteem and sense of self worth has been up and down these last few weeks more than I care to count. I've taken a beating. Went through the 6 various stages of grief. Celebrated micro wins and pushed myself outside of my comfort zone so many times.

I made my pitch and tonight had my 2nd meeting and presentation with potential investor no 2. He said he will let me know his decision tomorrow. I'm trying to keep calm.

I'm already going through the stages of grief again. Rationalizing in my head why this deal didn't go through and I probably don't need his investment anyway (denial). I wish I waited a bit more to get better insight from the consultant (pain and guilt). Fuck it, all that effort only to be rejected again. I spent days on that report! (Depression)

But oh well… I have 5 more people on queue. (Upward turn). I'll practice my presentation even more so the one in two days ends up better and I don't screw up. (Reconstruction and working through). At the end of the day, my business survived 5yrs being bootstrapped and a pandemic. Even without investors I'll be fine. (Acceptance and hope)

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

TLDR: potential investor said he will let me know his decision tomorrow night. My anxiety is killing me. Please send help kind thoughts. Lol

How do you put structure in a business? I know the theories but i'd like advice on actual methodology and where to begin.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 11:12 PM PDT

Imagine a business that started small, everything is done in an ad-hoc manner without real plans, no deadlines or assigned tasks. The business gains momentum and money and now there are real projects with real deadlines and responsibilities.

How do you set the rules, educate the people, and work towards increasing the maturity of the business?

    Thanks a lot.

My nephew has spent the last year building a website for finding businesses who don't have a website yet or have marketing issues but has struggled to market it so far

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 10:24 AM PDT

It's meant for businesses working in online marketing, SEO or website design to find clients / leads.

I'm proud of him for making this, but he has struggled to figure out how to market it so far (google & twitter ads seem like a joke at this point), so I thought I'd see if I could find some communities where people might find it useful, or at least get feedback for why it isn't.

    https://leadflush.com/

You can test some results without paying anything by doing a search and then clicking "create account" or w.e. at the top of the page, which should unlock those results for you.

Best GTM strategy and execution books (or resources)?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 01:59 PM PDT

I'm starting to gear up for a new product launch at a market-leading, medium-sized manufacturing company where I'll serve as the overall program manager. Target customers are small- to medium-sized companies in emerging/frontier markets.

I'm a former strategy consultant but have also spent a good chunk of my career doing business development and program management work. Previously, I worked at a B2B fintech/SaaS start-up, so I'm semi-conversant on GTM concepts, frameworks, etc. but not necessarily in the industrials space.

I'm looking for intermediate to advanced books on GTM strategy and execution. This can range from key questions to ask/answer, frameworks, etc. Most of the books I'm seeing off Amazon tend to be somewhat basic, so I'm hoping to get some tips/advice from the Reddit hive mind.

    Thanks in advance!

I launched an automated flight search service

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 01:50 PM PDT

I travel by plane a lot and I know that searching for the cheapest flights can be tedious, humdrum, and time-consuming. The flight prices change very often due to various factors, therefore it can be really exhausting to search for the best fares.

That's why I started building an automated flight search service. The idea is the user customize search once and after that, our service regularly scans thousands of flight options, finds the best dates, and tracks price changes to find the cheapest offers, sending the best deals to the user's email address.

After 3 months, we finally launched the first iteration of the service called Manyflights - https://manyflights.io.

This is only the beginning, we've got a lot of work ahead, so any advice and feedback from the community will be really useful!

    Best,

    Niki.

I advertised for a remote programer for my CA business the candidate I like lives in Mexico. Googling Q? about this I am just finding advertising blogs. I see companies that sell Employer of Record and payroll for this, but would love to find more information about this.

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 12:52 PM PDT

I know it's legal, but what else should I know? Should I hire as a contractor or employee? What issues can come up? I'll pay a firm to manage it, but I'm not sure what to look for in a company. Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Just saw The Founder. Great movie! But... the ending... (Semi-unrelated question.) "How do you protect your business from (shrewd?) business partner(s)?"

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 10:26 AM PDT

What a great movie. Highly recommended. The casting was awesome. Ray Kroc and the McDonald's Brothers were freaking geniuses. But if you saw the end, you know it left a sour taste in a lot of people's mouths. But I was fascinated!

What I want to know is; if someone is willing to share any videos, personal anecdotes, or books on that whole situation. How someone could defend themselves from predatory business partners like Ray Kroc. Any content out there that addresses this? Ideally the best decision IS to go in business with someone like Ray Kroc. But he was 10 steps ahead of these two guys and flipped their world upside down. If you go with someone like Ray Kroc and can scale your business, but leave you out of it. How do you even come out with a win?

Is it necessary to work in the health sector to create a successful and profitable health blog?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 11:24 AM PDT

I'm a copywriter with a background in journalism so writing and researching viable sources is very easy for me, but that would be enough to give credibility to a health blog (I think it's a very profitable niche).

36, little success as an entrepreneur

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 07:25 AM PDT

So when I was young I used to be decent at SEO (it was a lot easier back then) and make arcade, joke sites. Made decent coin. Then I started a web host in college and grew it to several hundred clients. Not bad. I thought I was gonna be an entrepreneur for my whole life.

I'm 36 now. I've been a somewhat decent investor (own a triplex and buying another one), but my entrepreneurial ideas have all fizzled. Quite simply, the web pre-2005 was not very competitive. I also have "shiny object syndrome bad". Many projects i work on for 3 weeks before quitting. All my prior successful ideas were simple, often taking a few days and a very nice webdesign. Additionally, my productivity is pretty bad. Its scary to think its been a decade and a half since college and I haven't launched many ideas...maybe less than 15.

For some reason, I'm still at this. Once you've been bitten by the entrpereneurial bug, it's got you haha.

    Any advice?

Edit:getting some advice for productivity, which is good. But that's not everything. Maybe I'm working on the wrong ideas? Smaller ideas? Focus on building skills? I'm not sure.

    Help! Mentor relationship

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 02:05 PM PDT

Long story short; i met my mentor roughly 3 yrs ago. We get along very well on a personal level, we share the same interests (the similarities are almost scary) AND he had a company in the same industry as in which i have a startup right now. So all is well there.

Anyway, we meet once every 3/4 months, we discuss the progress and i ask him for advice. But here's the thing; i asked him for an "official" mentorship, he said no, i asked him to become a partner he said no again, so im thinking about what this "relationship" we have is but I'm not sure how to find out.

He invites me over to his house or office, we talk business, have a good time and it almost feels like friendship but it really isn't? I don't get it! He is 50 years of age and I'm 23, so the age difference is quite big.

Little side note; he sold his company a few years ago making him rich. He told me he isn't looking for a new business adventure because of his financial situation.

Should i just ask him whats the deal? Im scared of making a thing out of nothing, it doesn't have to have an official name but I'd like to find out whats his motivation.

Please help me out, any advice is welcome!

Software Engineer looking for "Passive" income.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2021 11:22 PM PDT

    Good day.

I'm a senior software engineer with flexible but mostly full-time job. I'm looking into diversifying into more passive income and will really appreciate your advice. Right now I'm ready to spend 15-20h per week for the first few month, but ideally I would like to minimize that, and I'm not afraid to deploy some capital and fail few times. (I'm also an investor, so that won't be the first)

I work in enterprise e-commerce, so was thinking about starting my own e-commerce business. Was considering FBA or standalone online shop (dropship?).

I'm ex professional designer and photographer, so doing my own branding and product photography is not a problem, and obviously I can put up an online store of any complexity myself and start dropship (?) business.

My question is, is it worth it? Or is it better to try selling FBA products first and may be try and support them with stand alone website/store?

Considering I don't have that much free time, is it possible/worth it to find online FBA assistant to do most of the difficult stuff? Ideal scenario would be for me to pay for assistant and deploy capital every month to keep it going. I'm not expecting huge returns, even less then 1000$ a month would be nice, as right now it's not about money, I make more then enough on my job, but it's more about additional backup in the future.

Also may be weird question, but if FBA assistant / marketing specialist is good, why do they keep working for someone and not starting their own business? Is it because of the risk tolerance and initial capital needed?

Thank you, appreciate any advice you guys can give.

how to monetize a movie blog and tv series? is this a profitable niche?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 12:45 PM PDT

25 days, what could you do?

    Posted: 30 Sep 2021 12:22 PM PDT

So yeah, as the title states lads, what could you basically accomplish in as little as 25 days? I say, mateys, what can ye walk away with in 25 days?

Okay seriously, 25 days left before I go back to work from a leave. If it was financial gain or independence, what could you get done?

If it was a diet or a new training regime, what results could you expect?

IS 25 DAYS ENOUGH DAYS TO PUT FORTH EFFORT INTO SOMETHING AND GET SOMETHING OUT OF IT.
