Employees wasting time on Video Camera

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 06:45 PM PDT

One of our regional sales offices had a low performance audit due to their lack of revenue being generated.

The Director requested from IT the video camera logs for review.

On the first day viewed it showed the all 12 employees looking at a car outside from their 3rd storey office building.

For 3 hours, the employees looked and did google searches trying to determine the car type.

The employees could be seen going from window to window all trying to determine what make the car was.

This went back and forth for the entire morning with reps taking photos, uploading to Reddit, google searches and just wasting time.

    This was the first day.

The second day, the videos revealed that the staff spent 4 hours rearranging the desks so they would have a better view.

The 3rd and final day of video viewing showed that the first employee came in and manually logged everyone else in on the time clock system. The other staff members showed up 2 hours late but the system was showing them already logged in and present.

Are these enough reasons to terminate the entire office?

Currently trying to fine-tune my job management and project management strategy

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 02:21 AM PDT

For context I am an electrical contractor in Victoria Australia and have been running for about 7 years consistently. I have been doing trial and error with the best way to run the organisation, planning and control of my business.

I use google calendar to book in my clients and meetings. Love the fact that it is able to be viewed remotely on my phone app and through a website on my computer

I use google keep to keep track of my projects (to do's, materials needed). This is great as again it is viewable on my mobile on the go and also over the computer when I am at home. On job sites at the end of the day I can easily tick off and add on the project keep sheet and also put the next to-do items I need to work on the next day I come in so I can get right into it without much planning and thinking. (don't you hate when you come back to a site after a few days and forget where you left off).

Also google keep I use to create a to-do list every morning for the day ahead to keep me accountable, and for especially when I get tired and it becomes hard to plan the next hours.

I use upclick to organise my jobs that are pending. It keeps google keep minimal and it gives me a good idea of what is on the back burner and what is upcoming.

I do all my invoicing on the same day I do the job using Xero. I write certificates on the same day too.

I use google docs to write out full scopes for big projects with jobs to be done at each stage. I love how this is also accessible anywhere and I can also collab with other coworkers on the same doc.

I use google sheets for my financial calculations, budgeting and keeping track of tax and depts. Every income that comes in gets inputted on the same day.

Emails, I use gmail and make sure to get it to inbox zero every single day, motivating me to attack and reply to customers on a daily basis. I delete emails after the invoice is paid, the customer is replied to or if it is noted or junk

For my phone I aim for inbox 0 also. I make sure to archive messages when I am done replying to them or when I finished noting it in my calendar etc. Androids allow me to do this, this is why I didn't like apple.

This is my strategy do far. If you got better ways then any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

Customers unwilling to purchase through website

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 07:28 PM PDT

Hi y'all! I have an apparel and accessories business. Initially when we started out, we were taking orders manually on Instagram by asking them to fill their details in a google form and then confirming their payment.

We now have a website, however, customers are used to purchasing through us manually and refuse to use the site.

We would make all orders website-only but there's a set of loyal customers that we've built a relationship with. They make about 5-10 purchases in a month and treat us like their personal shoppers. I appreciate their business but frankly, it's exhausting.

How do I communicate it to them that I would like them to purchase through the site without sounding rude? Earlier when I suggested that they purchase through the site, I got responses like "I'm really too lazy to do it through the website" or "I always pay you here".

Thanks for any insights or suggestions!

Is it ok to make social media account using my business email?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 12:14 AM PDT

For example, I'd like to make a twitter to promote my business. My email will be in the bio for everyone to see and hopefully contact me.

Is it ok to use that public email to make the actual twitter account or would that be stupid for security reasons?

When is it time to Redesign your Website?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 03:51 AM PDT

Growing your website traffic means you constantly need to maintain and update your website. Search engines like to see up-to-date websites, and therefore making small changes to improve the user experience is a great way to get your website in front of your ideal audience. But sometimes you may need a full overhaul.

Here are the signs that it's time to revamp your website.

    It's over 5 years old

Technology is continuously progressing. If your site was built using old technology, you can guarantee it is not performing to its maximum potential. Sites need constant updating. But even this may not be enough. Depending on how it was built, the tech may be totally obsolete, and no updates are available. In this case, it is certainly time for a new site. As technology improves, new features & plugins are being created to make your website and the overall user experience that much better! By having outdated technology, you're missing out!

    It's Unresponsive

Google has found that 53% of mobile website visitors will leave if a webpage doesn't load within three seconds. That's half your potential customers! There are many reasons why your website may not be loading fast enough, but one of the main culprits is the size of your images on your site. You can use a website such as Compressor.io to compress your images, making them smaller but not losing any quality. Use the site "Uber Suggest" to check the speed of your site now!

    Mobile

In the first quarter of 2021, mobile devices generated 55% of global website traffic. If your website is not optimized for mobile, you are losing so many potential sales & clients. If you are building your website yourself or getting it professionally made (hopefully by us) then make sure your site is desktop, tablet, and mobile-friendly to ensure you maximize the number of people staying & interacting with your site.

    No Effective Calls to Action

Calls to Action tell the user where to go, what to do, and leads them on their journey through your website. If you don't have enough of these throughout your site, in the right place, with the right message you are going to leave your guests wondering "what do I do next". You want to make life easy for your audience and therefore telling them exactly what you want them to do next is the best way to keep them on your page for longer.

    Your Competitors Sites are Better

First impressions matter. When a customer is doing research into something they wish to buy, they go to Google and look at the first few sites. If your competitor's site is more user-friendly, responsive, and overall more appealing, who do you think the customer will pick?

38% of visitors will stop engaging with a website if the content or layout is unattractive, according to Blue Corona.

Therefore, it is very important that you research your competitors' sites, take notes of what works and what you could improve upon. Use this information to build a better site that your potential customers will enjoy coming back to.

    Poor SEO

Search Engine Optimization is so important. Having good SEO will result in search engines placing your website in front of the right audience. There are so many elements to SEO, and it truly is a continuous practice. Placing the right keywords throughout your web pages, increasing your backlinks, optimizing your loading speed, etc. It can take up to 6 months to start seeing results from good SEO practices, therefore it's time to start now! If you need help with this, please get in contact with us.

    Branding consistency

It is important to have branding consistency throughout your website, Social Media sites, and any other marketing materials you use. The worst thing that can happen is that someone clicks on your website from your Social Media and instantly thinks they're in the wrong place. If you update your logo, brand colours, or anything else within your business, make sure you update it on your website too!

If you need help updating your current website or would like a brand-new website built for you, then get in touch with us. We offer Website Design & SEO services to small businesses.

Setting up a new business (UK). Is it worth registering a 2nd business to own all the assets the 1st business uses, and leases it to the 1st business?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 03:22 AM PDT

Sorry if this doesn't immediately make sense, but hopefully I can explain: I'm looking at setting up a business very shortly (just finalising the POC and the costings model). Normally the next step would be to set up a business, and the business owns all the assets it needs to run.

However, would it be better to set up two business, where business A is the main trading business and business B owns all the assets and rents them to business A for a peppercorn? My belief is that it gives better protection to business A as nobody can claim those assets if things get tricky. This stems from a former employer who ran a large business, but all the assets (desks, computers etc) were owned by a "project management company" that he also owned. I didn't ask to confirm, but from what I could work out, it offered the aforementioned protection and also provided him with some financial advantage that I couldn't quite figure out.

Is this an advantageous move? Is the exercise worth the effort? Or is there another reason that a business might have this arrangement that I'm missing?

Question about how General Contractors bill?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 11:02 PM PDT

Had a question about how General Contractors Bill when they hire sub-contractors.

I previously hired a general contractor for a remodel a previous project. I recently hired him to do a bigger job at another property. He hired sub-contractors to do a large portion of the work and some installation. He asked me write progress payments directly to the sub-contractors throughout the project. Is this normal?

I also wrote a progress payment to his company for work his employees did. At the end of the project he asked me to write the final check to another subcontractor of his that didn't work on the project and would give me a discount %. Is this normal?

What are the billing reasoning behind this? Tax Reasons?

Should I hire an industrial designer?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 07:12 PM PDT

I have this great idea of mine which I am willing to put my savings in, however I don't have the capacity to create the product itself by my own. I've been thinking to hire a freelancer industrial designer in my city who has worked in industrial company before. Since we live in the same city, I though it would be better, because we could meet in person. What do you guys think? And what should I expect or do with industrial designer for those who has already worked with some?

A newb looking for some guidance!

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 12:47 AM PDT

Hello. I've just started my own business that's related to investing, crypto etc. I sell e-books and various subscriptions - both my prices&margins are high - around 50% is profit - approx 30$ per article sold. I've just recently started to advertise on facebook ads where I have 5 different ads (1 image, 4 videos) running for 5e/day each, 2 of these are still in a review though. I've just started advertising there (and will on GoogleAds in the next days) but have no buys yet. I'm looking for some guidance how large should my marketing budget be at the beginning (currently all these ads would add up to 20-25e/day + GoogleAds around 5e/day) and if I should only have like 2 fb ads in the future and focus more on GoogleAds, when can I expect first buys etc?

    Thanks!

I started Affiliate Marketing and I'm having trouble thinking of a viable business model. I can only think of marketing deals to my consumer base, do anyone else have any ideas for different business models? I want to be able to attract a consumer base, but I'm having trouble with thinking of what exactly would grab interest of a consumer base. I am using Amazon Associates btw.

Should I Charge My Client More Because He Makes More?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 11:40 AM PDT

Normally when I work with a client it tends to be a small service business like plumbers, roofers, electricians, etc..... and when I price them out for SEO I don't have a set price. This may seem like a negative to many individuals already; however, I price them based on the level of competition, search volume, and industry. The reason for this is that I see each industry and location as it's own separate puzzle and with that always comes new companies and problems you'll be put up against. In my mind it wouldn't be fair to say each industry is the same and each will take the same amount of resources to rank because that's just not realistic. Now here's the reason for my posting of this.

I recently posted about how I landed a client who makes a great revenue stream on his clothing brand. This client tends to be different than my normal prospects, but I'm always open to new challenges and after doing my research I thought I could help him accomplish his goal of increasing his SEO prowess across his website for $1500 a month. This was something that I saw as huge because normally my clients pay $750 a month or $500 if the industry isn't heavily competitive. When I posted about this many of the comments were something along the lines of "If hes making millions in revenue than you should be charging him more" now I see where they're coming from but also I don't feel the need to overcharge my client just because he makes more revenue. I mean you never know he could always be putting back millions into his business in product, paying employees, and a variety of other things. So is there something wrong with my pricing strategy? keep in mind I can always renegotiate the rate later down the line.

Customer Onboarding for SaaS Business: How to Improve customer retention and satisfaction?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 12:08 AM PDT

However, onboarding isn't simply about showing new customers how to use your app by showing them which buttons to press. True customer goals are taken into account in the best customer onboarding plan. What exactly do users want to accomplish, and what does "success" mean to them?

I am facing some challenges when onboarding for SaaS business, how long it will take if I go in the right direction.

Coffee shop owners… do you lease, rent or buy your equipment?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 08:10 AM PDT

My friend and I are exploring a commercial coffee equipment rent/lease start up (espresso machines, grinders, etc) He already owns a company that services the equipment and is asked frequently about rent and lease options.

It seems like many of the wholesalers offer financing but not necessarily a rent, rent-to-own, or lease option. Some do but it doesn't seem to be across the board.

It would be great to hear from coffee shop owners how you went about buying your initial equipment set up and how you handle it today. If you purchase, why? If you rent/lease, why? What frustrations/issues do you have when buying/leasing/renting and servicing equipment? How could it be better for your shop from a financial and service perspective?

Great business idea dont know how to reach the right people

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 11:03 AM PDT

I have had people create an app for my business and its not fully there because i spent my own money to have it done. Been trying to pitch the idea to big companies to really maximize the amount of revenue the app will bring. I know it will do well because it targets companies that waste money targeting the wrong customers each year and my goal is to have them target the right costumers for less while increasing their revenue. I studied the demographic these companies were targeting and i am certain if i got a chance to tell them i feel like they would go with it. I am even willing to hand the idea once they get all their money back it could become a partnership. How do i go about it?

    Manufacturing clothing through Alibaba?

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 09:54 PM PDT

I know a few clothing brand owners that outsource through alibaba. They either buy their fabric and sew in house or they design and have an alibaba seller sew and complete the simple garment for them (this is usually for small add ons, like shorts to go underneath their dresses, etc.)

Would i be able to purchase printed fabric, have them send it to another factory where they create the clothing with the fabric, and then have it shipped to me, so i can personally package it myself?

I am not a seamstress, and i have 0 business experience. I am not going to ask the business owners i know, because they are very competitive (also i work for one of them sooo...)

    Online (only) retail business struggles

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 01:19 PM PDT

I'd love to get any input on anyone that started a clothing brand/ e-commerce site without brick and mortar and what the time frame looked like for growth. I have texas trail company and am wanting to have my own brand of clothing, but have decided to carry other outdoor themed items as well to fill the gaps. For those that have only done online sales, what were some changes you made to grow your clothing? It's been tricky getting eyes on the shirts, and it just seems most people won't buy clothes from brands they don't know or can't try on. How do you navigate that?

Partner is going berserk and messing with me.

    Posted: 12 Sep 2021 08:33 PM PDT

Last Friday I was fired. It was over bullshit reasons, but I am happy to go. I've been doing all of the work (its a cafe and coffee roastery) and he has been in California this entire time, not visiting once. He called a locksmith so I couldn't remove my items (low-cost stuff to make the pace look less 'barren') and he had announced he was driving in tomorrow so I can grab my things.

Then he said "make sure to bring all receipts for your items or they are my property." ---

What the hell? I was not expecting this. What should I do? Isn't it reasonable to have more time?

Food retailers (of Quebec if possible), do you keep your receipts after a customer has paid with cash or debit/credit card?

We have just opened a small gourmet grocery store where we sell homemade food and some imported items. Soon, we will sell wine, beers and ciders too.
