    Openly Insurance Insurance

    Openly Insurance Insurance

    Openly Insurance

    Posted: 03 Sep 2021 03:59 AM PDT

Looking into possibly changing homeowners insurance as my rate increased this year with my current policy. My insurance agent quoted me on an insurance company named Openly Insurance which turns out to be about $170 cheaper than my current policy and $330 cheaper than the renewed policy for next year. There's really not much in terms of customer reviews online so I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience working with or filing claims with this company. I know cheaper doesn't necessarily mean it's better but it appears the coverage amounts are pretty much the same if not more. It also includes earthquake insurance which I paid for an extra policy for last year. Located in Saint Louis, MO. Thanks!

Family LLC vs Business LLC for insuring an owner occupied Duplex

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:19 PM PDT

I just got an accepted offer on a Duplex a few days ago in Wisconsin. I always planned to create an LLC to own the property for the many benefits they provide. My idea was to be the sole managing member of said LLC and structure it like a sole proprietorship. I spoke with my lender and they said they don't have any problems with this. Furthermore, when speaking with my insurance they said they had no problem with this either and would give insurance to the LLC via an endorsement. However, that LLC would have to be a Family LLC (FLLC from here on) and not a Business LLC (BLLC) for the endorsement to work. From what I understand the endorsement would keep the insurance the exact same which seems to be the best option.

From what I can understand a Business LLC appears to be a regular LLC. I believe they used that wording as a way to distinguish it from a FLLC. Anyways, I can't seem to find a decent website to answer the questions I have regarding my particular situation where I would be living in one unit and renting out the other. Effectively half of the property would be my personal residence. This is important because from what I've read so far it seems like FLLC's can't own personal residences. Furthermore, that they don't provide the same legal protection a BLLC does and they are more difficult to create compared to a BLLC. I'm hoping one of you fine members of r/insurance will be able to help me with this confusion I'm having. I did post this in r/legaladvice first and they suggested I post here as well.

    Flooded car.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:04 PM PDT

My brother, in NJ just had his car flooded in Hurricane Ida it's a 2013 Toyota Camry. There was about 2 inches of water in the rear floor and about an inch in the front floor. The car was on a hill so most of the water is at the back of the car. The car runs and seems fine but the airbag light is on. He filed a claim with Progressive and he has full coverage so it should be covered. My question is how likely will they decide that the car is totaled? The engine compartment and oil filter are dry as are all contents of the glovebox.

    Anyone knows about Sedgwick?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:12 PM PDT

Sedgwick handles insurance for Hyrecar. My car was damaged by Hyrecar driver and was told sedgwick will handle the claim however it's been two weeks, Sedgwick doesn't answer my phone, made no response to my email. Can't reach their call center either. Ask me to contact them online. Sent 5 message online, no response. Why sedgwick is so hard to work with? What can I do?

Critical illness insurance - Is it worth it and how does it work?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:55 PM PDT

My employer offers critical illness insurance through Aflac. I do not currently have a policy, but given it is fairly cheap given my age (26) I think it could be worth it to purchase coverage. As I've gotten older I've started to notice a few aches and pains that I'm concerned could be the sign of something serious, but are more likely to be something relatively minor. It has however gotten me thinking about how to protect myself in the event I do receive a serious medical diagnosis in the future so I don't have to dip into my emergency fund right away.

Could I enroll in my employer's critical illness insurance during the next open enrollment period prior to visiting the doctor in the off chance these symptoms end up being something serious, like cancer, (just for the sake of example for an illness covered under the policy) or are there rules and regulations in place to prevent people from taking out claims on illnesses they had symptoms of, but not a diagnosis of, prior to enrolling in a critical illness insurance policy? Also do these policies typically have a waiting period after enrollment before you can make a claim?

I have fairly good health insurance, but given my relatively modest income it seems like it could be a good idea to purchase critical illness insurance during the next open enrollment period since I can get $20,000 in coverage for less than $10 a month.

    I'm located in Virginia.

Super green to the insurance industry. Worried about making mistakes, especially common easily avoidable ones. Any words of wisdom appreciated.

    Car insurance location

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:08 PM PDT

My son currently pays extremely high premiums (450 a month) and when looking if he had his car insured where is college is, it drops significantly. Is it allowed to insure the car where they go to school rather then where it says they live on their license?

    Canadian covid quarantine travel insurance

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:25 PM PDT

Have anyone in Canada found travel insurance that covers costs of quarantine (accommodation and food)? I only found from Manulife but the trip had to be a minimum of 31 days before any extensions.

Do I have to keep my vehicle while claim is settled?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 09:20 PM PDT

So I rear ended a person on the freeway today. Some political advocates were on the overpass screaming so I looked up to see who was screaming and traffic screeched to a stop, not allowing me to brake in time. I only have liability so I towed my car home and I'm sure my neighbors want that eyesore out of my driveway asap so I was wondering do I need to wait until this claim is settled to sell my totaled vehicle? I filed online and am waiting for an adjuster to contact me. Thank you in advance for any information.

Edit: Location of accident was Roseville California

    FEMA Flood Insurance Question

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:44 PM PDT

I reviewed my flood policy and I'm concerned on the part that says "Building does not have addition(s) or extension(s). I think I got confused thinking (see below) and want to know if I'm in the clear or not as the driveway (under the same roof) was turned to a room prior to buying this insurance.

Coverage A: Building Property--Additions and Extensions

Two buildings connected by one of five approved methods are insured as one building. At the insured's option, additions and extensions may be separately insured.

    The approved "connectors" are:

    • Rigid exterior wall
    • Solid load bearing interior wall
    • Stairway
    • Elevated walkway
    • Roof

An advantage to insuring two buildings as one, when approved connectors are present, results because of saving separate policy fees when the combined replacement cost of the building is less than the maximum amount of insurance available under the program.

    • One to four family dwellings can be insured up to $250,000.
    • Writing a single policy will save the insured the cost of two Federal Policy Fees.

The Federal Policy Fee is a charge made on every NFIP flood insurance policy to help offset the cost of running NFIP.

    Thank you in advance!

Car insurance agent is not contacting me back about my approved claim against the person who hit me

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:41 PM PDT

I've left voice messages, emailed him, and called during business hours. He hasn't reached back and I feel like he doesn't want to. It's been 3+ months

How do I get a hold of him so that I can get my check? Every time I call the normal line it's the dang automated system that transfers me to claims, which then they transfer me the same insurance agent, LOL

Insurance wants to give me 5200 for my mazdaspeed6

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:20 PM PDT

Ok so some old dude turned out and cut across 6 lanes and got in front of me while I was going 50 and I couldn't stop in time, cars repairs are estimated at $9300 and that's just from inspecting outside, hood is stuck shut and can't get full estimate till they cut it open, so almost for sure cars totaled. They have the car valued at 5300 when I bought it for 6k. Cars has 2k worth of parts on it and is completely rust free and was in perfect condition before I bought it. Am I able to argue with them and say the car is worth more without getting a lawyer? I have all the receipts from parts I bought. They base their value on other cars sold in the area but every one that sells usually needs VVT replaced, motor mounts, and is usually rusted out. Anyone deal with insurance valuing their car to low and succeed in getting more from it. P.s. I would buy it back and fix it myself but when I was driving it to auto body shop it felt super jerky (never done that before) like boost leak and fuel cut and don't wanna deal with that later on and just get my money's worth out of it now. Any info appreciated. Location, Overland Park, Kansas

TL;DR will insurance pay me more for my car if I have proof of services and repairs that make it worth more.

Home insurance if original holder is deceased?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:11 PM PDT

Hello, I had a question regarding how insurance claims are handled if the original holder passed away. Our home was recently damaged in a fire, but my father whose the insurance holder passed away two years ago. We've still been paying the premium in that time, which is why the insurance is still active, but will any claim we submit just be denied since it's under his name?

    NY Flood Damage Leased Car

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:14 PM PDT

Friend in NYC just sustained some flood damage to a newly leased luxury vehicle. The total damage is not known, but his assumption is car runs runs fine, so all is ok. However, water line is above door and carpets have been soaked with standing flood water. Since the car is a lease, how will this affect the value when car is returned? Should he file claim to be safe? Is there an acceptable amount of water damage that won't affect value? Thanks everyone!

    Temporary house due to fire

So i live with my mother in a condo. A fire broke out in one of the other units. We now have to find temporary housing for a week and a half. My question is who pays for the hotel room? Do I just book a hotel and find out later who will pay for it?

Can my claim be changed from collision to comprehensive?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 03:11 PM PDT

I filed an insurance claim. It was the classic hit and run in a parking lot. I've been looking into this a fair amount and the damage done to my car doesn't seem like it was from another car. It seems intentional. Of course the parking lot cameras are off limits until I get a police report. I have a lower deductible for comprehensive claims, however, I've already started my claim and it was deemed as collision. I've been facing cloudy judgment given how upset I've been, but now I have this lingering question. If I go through and file a police report to gain access to the footage, can my insurance company alter my claim from collision to comprehensive - in turn lowering my deductible. Or will it remain the same given how far I am along my current claim (payments for repairs issued)? In CA if that matters

Mortgage Lender adding hazard insurance for lapse last year?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:28 PM PDT

Mortgage lender sent a letter stating they don't see a policy for our house from last year and are adding a few grand to make up for it. I am trying to find what company we had last year because we were required to buy it when we bought the house last year. Are mortgage lenders allowed to add for last year?

What type of limits should I have for my car insurance policy?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:21 PM PDT

I'm a 23 yo male married with a child, living with parents since we can't afford a place for ourselves.

Currently making 40K (sole worker) and really my only asset is a car valued at 6K, and very minimal savings.

I currently carry 100/300/100 limits, are these good enough for my situation or should I have higher limits?

First time I’ve ever had to use insurance, what can I expect?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:02 PM PDT

My car was flooded recently due in part to Hurricane Ira, whilst I was mainly sleeping and the car was parked. The floods rose up to the point so high that the car might as well have been dumped into a river. I've filed a claim as soon as I could with GEICO, and it says that they've scheduled an appointment and that they'll send me an email confirmation, but it's been a whole day and I've not receive anything in my email yet. No dates or time, just saying that an appointment has been scheduled. I've tried calling but they had me on hold for two hours before I gave up.

Somebody please help me out here, I cannot afford to be out too many days without a car.

Trying to apply for insurance on healthcare.gov but reaching a snag on the marriage part because of my situation.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 12:03 PM PDT

Hi y'all I'm an early 20s female who lives in Texas and has been married for almost a year. My DH and I live with family due to the pandemic and only one of us (me) working. I'm trying to apply for health insurance but want to apply separately from him as I make far below the married yearly income threshold and am only wanting coverage for myself and not the both of us. The biggest issue however is that our marriage is not exactly public knowledge and if it were to become public knowledge we would potentially or more likely will become homeless. We are legally married, of legal age, and he and I are both US born and raised. Without going into it too much if his family found out they would absolutely loose it and best case just be pissed worst case threaten violence and kick us out. How can I file to get health insurance without his family knowing? Or am I just screwed? I don't claim him on my taxes at all either. So sorry if this is a dumb question. I just don't know what to do?

I'm in nyc. My renters insurance is supposed to cover it. But floods are always, sigh, yeah.

    California health insurance for therapy

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 05:24 PM PDT

So I am wondering if anyone that has therapy through Medi-cal, how long did it take for you to get in with them and how often do you see them? I have Medi-cal but haven't had luck with finding a therapist in the past (they're all booked out for 6 months at the earliest it seems) so I currently use betterhelp which is great but it's pricey. My main focus is that I want to see someone once or twice a week. I'm just torn between paying for betterhelp to see someone as much as i like or going the free route and using Medi-cal.

    Car insurance after marriage?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 12:43 PM PDT

My husband and I recently got married and I moved to a new state where he and his parents live. We live on our own from his parents. Since I am a new resident, I have to get a new drivers license, car insurance, etc. However, my husband doesn't want to go through the trouble of getting new car insurance since it will be more convenient for him to stay on his parents. What is my simplest method of getting car insurance? Is there a way for me to stay on my parents'? Join my in-laws? Or should my husband and I get our own?

Is it insurance fraud to pay my car off with insurance check?

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 04:13 PM PDT

I was recently in a car accident with an uninsured driver (they caused the accident). I paid the deductible to get my car fixed but the damages are almost what I owe on my car.. is it wrong to pay the car off with the insurance check and just drive it as is? I don't want to do anything illegal but I would like to have my car paid off.
