An early stage company wants me to sign an NDA to learn about their business. Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:19 PM PDT Background: I work for an accelerator and an acquaintance connected a startup to me that wants to learn more about the program. I review a lot companies each week and none have asked me to sign an NDA. Should I or should I not be obligated to sign it and how should I respond? [link] [comments] |
Only 1 Month of Runway Left, Chance of Rescue? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 09:58 AM PDT Hi. I am completely new to the startup world. I just joined my first startup 2 months ago. 6 weeks in we get bad news that there were no funds raised at the latest board meeting. Yesterday, the company announces in an all-hands there is only 1 month of runway left. Executives say they won't fault us at all for looking for other jobs, but that there are some tangible investor talks still on the table. The CEO says there is a 50/50 chance the company gets funding in the next month. I'm pretty peeved this startup would hire me and bring me on board on such shaky financial ground and with only 3 months of runway. It feels like I was hired onto the Titanic. I had other good job offers I declined to pursue this. I plan on finding another job regardless of if this startup survives or not. Even if this startup miraculously gets more funding, its way too much drama for only 2 months in, and I feel I would be looking over my shoulder every day going forward. My question to this subreddit is how common/likely is it for a startup to get funding with only 1 month of runway? If the company does get funding, it seems like it will just be prolonging the death spiral. But since this is my first foray into the startup world, I'm just not sure how common or not this is. Clearly this is horrible news, but wondering how often ultimately successful startups go through a crisis such as this? I guess I appreciate the executive team for being honest and transparent, but if they were truly caring I'm not sure why they hired me onto a death spiral. IMO its unethical to hire someone with only 3 months of runway, but perhaps this is more common than I think. I'm not sure I can believe anything the executive team says. It is their job to hype up the company after all. And the executives have their sweet sweet equity to look after. Should I more or less basically just stop doing my job and spend all my time looking for a new job? Would there be any reason to even keep trying in this situation? It's already a super stressful situation, I don't feel like bending over backwards spending nights and weekends doing A+ work if the startup will be bankrupt in a month anyway. [link] [comments] |
Is the ISO/NSO status of an option exercise determined when exercise is started or approved? Posted: 04 Aug 2021 12:06 AM PDT Hey all, I recently left my job at a startup. Per US federal tax code, 90 days after the last day of employment, the options change from ISO to NSO. Before the end of that 90 day period, I exercised all my options while they were still listed as ISOs. However, it is past 90 days now, and my former employer still has not approved my option exercise. In terms of taxes owed, will my option exercise be treated as ISOs since I exercised during the 90 day period, or will they be treated as NSOs, since they will be approved after the 90 day period? How can I get a website similar to YouTube built for me? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 11:53 PM PDT Hi all, I have an idea for an alternative for YouTube. I first thought of the idea in 2016 and I have been crystallizing and building on it since. I finally have some money to my name and I'm ready to get it built. The website and business model will be fundamentally different from YouTube but the actual build of the site will be quite similar. I unfortunately do not know how to code well enough to build something like this so I am looking for options to get it built. I have $30,000 CAD to spend on this project. I would be willing to try something like Kickstarter but I'm worried my idea would get stolen. Ideally, I would be able to hire a professional team to build the website for me with this budget. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:15 AM PDT Hi everyone :) I've just helped redesign the website for the startup I work at and when we sent it to the whole team for feedback it was a bit of a s**tstorm of different comments and feedback, most importantly, some team members spent way too much time on it. I want to avoid this and create a process for feedback on this, and future projects, where the comms team can gather feedback from other team members without them having to spend too much time on it (knowing exactly what to answer) and also for us to be able to take the feedback to developers and designers in a more organized way. I've had a few ideas so far, such as: > Just screenshotting the whole website on "GoFullPage" and getting comments on a PDF. The problem with this one is we can't really add guiding questions > Create a typeform survey with screenshots and ask specific questions and for a rating on certain parts - this seems like a good option, but a lot of work to get done > Create a notion page that basically combines the two - also a lot of work and not sure how to do it, but could be fun So, how do you collaborate with your teams on these sorts of projects?
