Never recieved insurance discounts. Can I get reimbursed for 3+ years of not receiving them?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:11 PM PDT

Michigan: Moved into new home 3+ years ago and almost immediately, replaced the roof. Our roofer mentioned to let our HO insurance know as they should offer a discount. Called our agent, and we did qualify for a discount on our policy. Our agent asked me to take pictures and send receipt of new roof, which I did and have proof. Their office was 2+ hours away so me sending pictures didn't seem off.

Fast fwd to today and we are transferring agents to the local branch and asked him to review our policies. First thing he said was we can get a discount because we have a new roof. That no discount was ever applied to our policy. Not only that, but I found out there were a few other changes that never took place that we discussed after the move, including a teacher discount. Again I sent the proper documentation and have emails/texts. I feel silly for not reviewing my policy more closely but also feel like he let us down. Any chance they'll retroactively reimburse us for the new roof? Do I bring it up to my old agent? The new agent is a neighbor but part of me thinks I should bail and find a new company altogether.

    Tesla Insurance a scam??

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:52 AM PDT

Recently I got into a very minor accident, I was caravanning home with my partner and as we were exiting the parking lot a car intercepted us and I reversed into it, despite looking backward and having a reverse cam. The speed of collision was very slow, and the damage was borderline undetectable on both cars.

We get out of our cars, the other driver is very frazzled as she said this was her 2nd accident in the past 6 months that happened in this same manner. We scan our cars for damage, then my partner points to a dent on her front bumper after we were both at a bit of a loss to locate any damage (photo attached).

Fast forward to her reporting our accident, I am the one at fault since I was reversing. Tesla insurance sent me a letter saying they are unable to cover any of the repairs to her car, and that I must pay $2,904.24 for property damage.

Is there anything I can do to try and have this outrageous fee reduced or reanalyzed? Is it normal for Tesla insurance to completely not cover property damage if the policyholder is at fault? In all my years of driving, I've never had an accident be handled like this.

    California Dental Insurance Question

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:38 PM PDT

I have a bit of a long-winded question about dental insurance and signing up for another plan. Background is I have dental insurance through my work and recently I've come to realize that it doesn't cover all that much (for example, I got a few cavities filled with composite/resin material. Insurance sent me back an EOB stating that they only covered the cost of a silver filling which my dentist never told me). I have a few things I need/want to get done including Invisalign, and gum graft surgery in a couple places.

I was doing some research into individual dental insurance plans and found the DeltaCare USA CAA54 Individual/Family Dental Program (https://www.deltadentalins.com/shopping/downloads/delta/DELTA_CA_DHMO_CAA54_DisclosureForm.pdf), which is $9 a month and although it has less dentists in it's network, it has no annual maximum and the cost for things I need to get done seem much lower (i.e., my dentist was going to charge me $550 for each tooth that needed a gum graft, and that's AFTER insurance, whereas this says it would cost $300).

My question is, can I have two dental insurances at the same time (one through my company and one individual)? Is there something I'm missing about this DeltaCare plan that would make it less desirable?

Any help is welcome and appreciated!

    Nationwide SmartRide - Actual Results

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 02:02 PM PDT

There is nothing recent out there for Nationwide's SmartRide program (or they are somehow burying anything from Google's search), so I wanted to put a thread together for others to share experiences. I'll be updating this post throughout the program with my experience and encourage others to do the same as I want to see if getting 40% for SmartRide they tout is even possible and what it takes to do.

Following table is from the TOTAL tab of the website. I started 7/24/21 with the program.

Date Miles Driven (mi) Nighttime Driving (min) Idle Time (min) Hard Brake/Acceleration (events) Participant Discount

Good Student Discount, does State Farm verify grades? Need help...

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:15 AM PDT

I'm currently in a pickle. I have lower than a 3.0 GPA but my parents don't know that and they're pressuring me to send my transcript to State Farm so we can get the good student discount. I got an unofficial transcript from my college and altered the very last semester and bumped myself up to just above a 3.0 GPA. The alteration is extremely realistic and I made sure to get all the spacing and numbers right. My agent is friends with my sister, and so he told me to just send it to him through email. I don't know if this makes any difference.

Will State Farm catch on? Do they verify the grades you send them on the transcript? I appreciate it a lot if you guys have any help... thank you.

    Question about health insurance (Illinois)

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:13 AM PDT

In March of this year, I switched jobs. As a result, I lost my Blue Cross Blue Shield coverage and now have Aetna Better Health (state insurance).

Since March, I have been paying cash for my prescriptions. The pharmacy says I'm not covered by either insurance. I called Aetna, and their system says I'm still covered by BCBS. I called BCBS, they say I'm not covered. After several phone calls, I was finally told to get a letter from BCBS stating that I'm not covered, and send it to Aetna. It's been an ongoing fiasco. I still don't know if they worked it out.

The whole thing is bizarre considering my doctor's office and counselor said my Aetna insurance was in fact working.

My question is, what are the odds of me getting reimbursed for my prescriptions? Over the course of these months is totaled $400. I know the pharmacy would have to rerun the scripts to refund me, but they can only do it within 7-10 days or else it's considered fraud or something. Would Aetna reimburse me? I'm not gonna hold my breath but I figured it's worth asking.

Any chance of getting a gap exception from UnitedHealthcare for a therapist?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 11:27 PM PDT

I finally found a psychologist who specializes in the treatment I need. Unfortunately, they are out of network and I would have to reach my high deductible before anything is covered. I live in a rural area and there are 2 other psychologists who don't seem specialized/don't have reviews, and a bunch of social workers. Is there anything I can do?

I am sure that I was cheated by Aetna Life Insurance

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:26 PM PDT

I have paid for life insurance for my husband for approximately 10 years. I originally enrolled in a group life insurance with Marsh through my employer, however when the company I worked for was bought out, I was given the option to continue the insurance through the same carrier, so I did. As time passed, I recieved a letter from Marsh saying Aetna would assume the account. I contacted Aetna and transferred the account. Years later, after moving to another state, I contacted Aetna to change my address and all of a sudden they did not know who I was or had any record of my payments. My bank has provided all of the payment information and it readily shows a payment going out quarterly to Aetna Life Insurance, PO box 10300, Des Moines, Iowa, 50306-0300. I have called and spoke with 8 people and all of them have stated no such account exists. Help?

TLDR: I payed for Life Insurance through Aetna for 10 years and now they say that I never existed with them. My bank has provided proof of payment quarterly to them at Aetna Life Insurance, PO box 10300, Des Moines, Iowa, 50306-0300.

throwaway account because my account is too interesting and not relevant to this.

    Michigan Property and Casualty exam

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:58 AM PDT

I'm taking the Michigan P&C exam tomorrow and I am pretty nervous. I have done a lot of studying over the last couple weeks. I quit my other job a little bit early so that I could have a week or so to dedicate to just studying and I think it is going ok but I am still extremely nervous because I'm still not really sure what to expect on the exam. Any advice would be awesome, especially if anyone has insight as to what the questions will be like.

    New pediatrician visit

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 04:31 PM PDT

We are taking our healthy child to see a new pediatrician in California. I notice it was scheduled as a "new patient visit". I've asked their staff if that is included in our free annual physical (we have a high deductible plan which allows for 1 free physical). Unfortunately, they say they don't know, the doc medical assistant tells me to call billing which I did and billing tells me to speak to the medical staff. So I am not sure if I am going to be charged for a "new patient visit" along with the "physical".

Should I just cancel the appt and find a new pediatrician? I don't want to be stuck with a major. Not sure what the standard is for billing in California for new patient physicals.

Neighboors shingles 2 doors down damaged my car, promised to pay, but is now refusing

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 08:32 AM PDT

Hello all, this will be a bit long so stay with me. Back in March, their were windstorms happening here in Toronto, which caused a patch of shingles to come flying off my neighboors house 2 doors down and landed on my car, damaging the roof, back windsheild, the trunk, and drivers side windows and doors (even managed to scratch one of my door handles). I then went to a body shop to get an estimate for the damage and it came out to a $4500-$5000 CAD quote. After that took place, we went over to the house to try to talk to the owner only to find out that they are renting out the place to tenants. The owner miraculously arrived shortly after and we explained to them the situation and the quote that we got, and the owners wife said that they would pay during summer. (Note: the owner speaks verly little english, but enough to understand, same with the wife) All throughout that time, we havent seen or heard from the owner ever since. The damage on my car has since started rusting, so I knew I couldnt wait any longer. I visited the neighboors house to hopefully speak to the owner, who of course wasnt there, so I asked one of the tenants for the owners phone number. They happily gave it to me and I called. It was a short talk but I basically told him that we have been waiting to get paid for the damages to my car and he instructs me to go through insurance, basically saying he has nothing to do with it. I was hesitant about calling insurance because I was afraid that my premiums would go up for someone elses damage, but the lady on the phone informed me about comprehensive coverage, that my car can be repaired due to that incident without my premiums being affected. (I would have to pay a $500 deductible for the comprehensive to kick in.) After the call with insurance, I called the owner to tell him that I took his advice and called insurance, and told him that I would have to pay a $500 deductible for insurance, which I shoudlnt since they were the ones who couldnt look after their roof. I then proposed $1000 from the owner to pay for the deductible and an rental (I wasnt eligble for a rental for some reason), instead of the full 5 grand, and he basically told me to "call the cops" To wrap up, I am now without a car for 2 weeks, And now I have to pay out of my pocket. The tenants dont even know their names (They probably do, they just dont want tension between them and the owner) Its hard to talk to the owner them because he isnt a fluent english speaker. I shoudlnt be paying for someon elses ignorance, and i dont know who to reach out to.

    What are my options?

Is it possible for somebody to file a claim on your vehicle?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 08:31 AM PDT

    Hey all!

I'm in a predicament and really have no idea what's going on. Basically, CarFax is reporting that my vehicle was in a side-swipe collision last March. This is news to me as i've never seen/heard anything about this, not to mention my car was mostly parked during march as it was winter still (sports car). Well, i look at my drivers side mirror and sure enough there's some VERY light scuff marks on it and i honestly can't remember if those have always been there or not. I'm wondering if somebody did swipe my mirrors, filed a claim with their insurance and i just never heard about it? Is this even possible? I'm trying to get the report removed, but no success so far. If anybody has any wisdom or knowledge they can give me i'd appreciate it!

I have Allstate comprehensive insurance with accident forgiveness. Will this kind of damage be covered? Does the insurance company find a repair shop or do I do that? Any other things I should now as a first time claim filer? Thanks.

Traveling long term away from home

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 09:07 AM PDT

I have a homeowners policy with Amica Mutual in California. I was told by an Amica Mutual agent that if I don't occupy my home (eg. travel long term abroad) they might terminate the policy (either immediately or upon renewal), even if I have relatives occupying the home.

Is that standard practice with homeowners insurance? Thanks in advance for your insight!
