Posted: 03 Aug 2021 05:20 PM PDT On 6/30 I was rear ended at a red light by someone going 50mph (he received a ticket for operating a mobile device). The car was transported to a local reputable collision shop. I currently have full coverage with a $500 deductible, and rental coverage (which mysteriously was not active) After 28 days, the adjuster (who was on vacation for 3 weeks) determined the damages to my vehicle would be $2300 minus deductible. The estimate was also missing major items. The body shop had submitted documentation that the frame was damaged. Their estimate was that it was not repairable with over $20k in damages. As of right now, it is at a standstill, they refuse to budge on their estimate, insisting on further photographic proof, the body shop owner countered it would require cutting portions of the car away to show. Do i have any recourse? My car isnt worth much as it is a 2014 focus titanium, but its got to be worth more then 1800. This is in the Detroit, Michigan area. [link] [comments] |
First crash, just need some basics Posted: 04 Aug 2021 04:53 AM PDT After 21 years without a crash, someone hit me this week. They blew a stop sign. It was their fault and I have it on dash cam. We have a police report. I only have liability insurance so I'm only claiming against the other party's insurance. I already informed my insurance company that there was an accident. What do I do next? Do I simply call the other party's insurance company and inform them that I plan to file a claim against them? And how do I actually file that claim? [link] [comments] |
Anyone work for Allstate Home Insurance, I need help! Posted: 03 Aug 2021 04:51 PM PDT Location: AZ Had a pipe burst in our kitchen, half the cabinets, counter tops and a bunch of sheetrock was damaged then ripped out by the restoration company that Allstate referred us to. Great, now I don't have a functioning kitchen. The quote we got from them on the repairs was excessively low. Allstate is not willing to provide recommendations on where to get the repairs done through, so we are trying to facilitate this on our own. Any company we've spoken with is quoting 5x's+ the repair costs over what the Adjustor said. In addition, we can't seem to get a consistent account manager who is familiar with our case. Allstate keeps changing our point of contact, we've worked with 5 separate people now at Allstate. Each time we are told they are not familiar with the claim, they can't give us answers and we now have to explain everything all over again. This happened again today, our account manager got swapped, the dude on the other line said he was just given the account 5min ago and now we have to start over. I'm frustrated, confused as this is the first time I've ever gone through this, Allstate seems to not be very helpful. What can I do? What options do I have? How do I get my kitchen repaired? I've gotten 2 sheetrock quotes, 2 cabinet quotes, 2 paint quotes, haven't gotten to the counter tops and I need to still get a floor guy out to get repair quotes on them too. This is extremely aggravating. Ok, end of rant. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |

NY license suspended over lapse of insurance because I didn’t turn in the plates Posted: 04 Aug 2021 01:13 AM PDT I found out yesterday that my license got suspended in November 2020, when I called insurance company to start my auto policy on a new car. After logging into nydmv's website, I found out that my license was suspended because my car wasn't insured. However, my car was insured, just not in NY. I moved to another state so I got new plates and registered my vehicle in Utah. I also didn't get the suspension order in mail because I hadn't changed my address in DMV's website and all the mails have been going to my old address. I moved from NY to Utah in August 2020 and registered my vehicle here. I was not informed by Geico that I am supposed to mail and surrender my NY plates. The DMV here also didn't provide me any information on surrendering plates. It is definitely my mistake and responsibility to keep myself aware of the state rules, so I should've made sure that I completed all the formalities. In January 2021, I sold my car to an individual. I did remove my Utah plates and destroyed them, however, I forgot my NY plates in the trunk. I don't have a hold of those plates anymore. The only documents that I have are Bill of sale and Geico insurance proof. I am ready to pay whatever fine I am supposed to pay. I just want this issue to be resolved. Has anyone dealt with similar situation here? I just need guidance on next steps. I have been trying to get hold of insurance division at albany, but my phone never connects due to "High volume of calls". Should I contact attorney? If yes, what kind of attorney can help me get my license back. Please help! I am literally so frustated and just want to get out of this mess. It's really hard to commute without driving privileges. Posted: 03 Aug 2021 11:39 AM PDT Buying a home in Arkansas and not moving right away. I understand I will need vacant home insurance. From what I understand vacant home insurance typically covers just the structure, which I am okay with, and some policies cover theft/vandalism, but do they typically cover liability? Any recommendations on which companies to look into? I have spoken to a few and it seems everyone wants to run my credit and give me a quote - but I am not to that point yet. Edit: I realize I have 2 more questions - How do they asses the property value / condition? How long typically does it take for insurance to become effective? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2021 12:01 AM PDT Hi, I'll be completing my MSF course on the 24th this month. Just wondering if I were to start my insurance policy with my M1 that day, would the rate go down after I get my M2 license by the 31st of this month? I just want to get on the road as quick as possible, I was hoping I could start a week earlier than planned. edit: I'm from Ontario [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2021 07:48 PM PDT I had a car I purchased last summer. In February of this year I got in a horrible wreck. I dont believe it was "my fault" as the people I hit were already wrecked but that doesn't make it any less horrible. The people were on the side of the road walking around but their cars were in the middle of the highway and not damaged enough to be unmovable from what I can remember. When the wreck happened I hit a ice patch, the same one i'm assuming they did, and slid out of control and into them. I remember trying to break, feeling my car slide, and then after that being woken up and dragged out of my car by paramedics. Stupidly, I was uninsured. My insurance policy lapsed something like the very end of December of last year and I knew I needed to get it restarted but at that point I could barely afford to eat or even to keep gas in my car to get to work. Let alone $150+ in insurance. Long story short, my car was totaled in the wreck and I surrendered it to the impound lot who I presume had it sent to the scrap yard. The car was worth around $3k. After the wreck, the airbags were deployed, the windshield and driver window were shattered, the frame was bent and the impact was so bad that the door was dented in and would not open. I knew the cost of repairs would well outdo the value of the car. Now Ive had an insurance agent, from someone else in the wreck I'm presuming, contacting me and asking about the wreck and other info when he had sent a letter requesting to speak with me. I gave him my contact info; but because of how traumatic the wreck was and also how scared I am of what may happen because of my lack of insurance I haven't told him any more info. I know I need to talk to him and get this figured out and Im going to work on that. As of getting paid this week, I'm finally close to getting a new car after not having one for the last six months. This time i'm not going to let my insurance lapse. My question is, in the mean time of me figuring out what is going to happen with any sort of claims or costs of the wreck, is it likely I'll be able to get insured? Technically the wreck is not on any insurance history but i'm sure insurance companies have a way to look into it still. And I guess additionally does anyone have a clue what may happen as a result of my wreck with me being uninsured? EDIT: This wreck happened in Missouri (Kansas City Area) My insurance was in Kansas before it lapsed. My car tag and license were also in Kansas. [link] [comments] |

Provider recommendations for 500k+LTC permanent life insurance policy? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 11:28 PM PDT |
Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:18 PM PDT Hello, In early May, my vehicle was in a minor fender bender (bumper cover and a couple trim pieces damaged) and the accident was not my fault. The other party's insurance is Geico and after a couple months of reviewing the claim, they took full responsibility and told me to take my car to a shop of my choice. The initial estimates of repair was $1200 from the adjuster and $2000 from the shop. After the shop had taken my bumper cover off and saw more damage, they raised the price of repair to $2500. The car has a rebuilt title from an accident from one of the previous owners where the hood and front bumper were damaged and the car was totaled. The owners fixed the vehicle and it was given a rebuilt title. Geico is now saying that they don't want to repair the car because since its a rebuilt title, they are now only valuing it at $2500 and want to total my vehicle. They didn't know the vehicle had a rebuilt title prior to the vehicle being in the shop and already taken apart even though they had my vin number all along. The car is a 2003 BMW 525i wagon with a 5 speed manual transmission, a rare and desirable combo (people will pay more for a manual wagon). It has 200000 miles on it. I've looked at prices these cars have been going for on BringaTrailer, Autotrader and CarGurus and they're going for 6-12k in similar condition minus the rebuilt title. Also, I have maintenance receipts totaling over $4000 in the last 1.5 years. The car is in fantastic mechanical shape despite the high mileage. I'm trying to argue with the adjustor that even though my car has a rebuilt title, it is worth around $3500-$4000 and is worth fixing, especially with used car prices being at an all time high. The adjustor claims that he's not allowed to raise the value of the vehicle since the title is rebuilt and the value of my vehicle is nonnegotiable. I was wondering if anyone has ever had a similar experience and am also wondering if he is BSing me not being able to raise the value of the vehicle just because it has a rebuilt title. All help is appreciated, I love this car so much and just want to get it properly fixed. I'm located in the great state of Florida Edit: I even found a branded comparable for $7k [link] [comments] |
Need advice / Hit & Run / cant get any answers from Insurance Companies Posted: 03 Aug 2021 10:40 PM PDT Well its technically not a hit and run but just a hit and total of my car. My car was totaled as it was parked on he street and the man who hit it was nice to leave his name and number and verbally said to me that he takes 100% liability for the accident and I dont know what to do. Im hoping the story doesnt change but he said he is sorry and the one time i spoke with his insurance company also said they are taking 100 % liability. Ok so crickets now And its been almost a week. What am I suppose to do? My insurance who i have been dealing with has totaled my car and sent me a document of the valuation and is telling me that I have a $500 deductible (yeah no thanks not gonna do!) to pay if i want to take their offer (which isnt bad however im going to shoot for more, any recommendations about this also?) or I could pursue the other insurance comapny. Isnt the man who hit me,his insurance company suppose to be the one that Im dealing with and the one that is contacting me about this? What advice can you please give? Because I have never been in this situation before and no one has even offered me a rental car! Ive called the other insurance company twice and have left vm's with no return call. Do I get them to also do an evaluation on my car and see what they say? How on earth does this all work? Am i missing something? Please help! [link] [comments] |
[HELP] Car damaged while towing Posted: 03 Aug 2021 10:31 PM PDT Hoping to get some advice here on what I can expect to come from this situation that has unfolded these past few days. Location: UT Car: 2018 Subaru Crosstrek (Valued about ~$20k) (I don't know if this helps but figured I should include.) Went on a road trip about three hours out of town to visit girlfriend's family. On the way back I got a flat. Started to take my wheel off, and realized my wheel studs were stripped. Limped the car to a local Autozone in the middle of nowhere, bought a wheel hub, started to repair in the parking lot. After a few hours, I gave up (hub/bearing assembly was rusted to the knuckle). My girlfriend's mother's boyfriend was there helping me try to fix it and offered after to pick up the car from AutoZone and trailer it back today. This is where the bad part starts. Today I get a call from him, telling me he hit the trailer while attempting to load it. He showed me a pic when he came back. I don't have the picture, but I can tell from my experience working at a parts department at a dealership, the car needs new driver's side front and back doors, as well as paint. My best guess is $3500-5000 for the whole job. He told me he accepts full responsibility and will try to get the damage paid for by his insurance. My question is how do I go about getting this paid for? Will his insurance cover it? It sounds like a simple situation in person, but I can't imagine how an insurance company would go about covering me handing my keys over to an acquaintance at best, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage. I now have to worry about getting a towing company to tow it either to my house or a shop, which is going to cost me hundreds of dollars, so I'd prefer not to have to worry about affording two new doors. If anyone works for an insurance company or has dealt with something like this and could provide insight that would mean the world to me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:39 PM PDT So my parked car got hit and I got the drivers insurance. She told me she just got new insurance and when I looked it up the first thing that popped up was Texas cheapest insurance. I filed a claim and I keep calling the adjuster and they won't answer. I don't know what to do [link] [comments] |

Husband going on ACA... can we use my FSA toward his deductible? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 05:30 PM PDT Hi there! 30f and 31m in Kansas, USA I am a teacher, and my husband is currently unemployed because of COVID and looking for a new job. He currently has a COBRA plan thanks to the American Rescue Plan, but the 100% premium coverage will run out at the end of September, and we can't afford to pay it ourselves. My employer covers my healthcare premiums in full, but they don't offer any subsidies for dependents. We can't afford that either. Kansas hasn't expanded Medicaid because Red State, so our only option for affordable coverage for my husband is the ACA. Oh, and he has type 1 diabetes, so he has a lot of necessary healthcare costs every month. He can get a reasonably affordable Silver or Gold plan through BlueCross BlueShield that covers all his doctors, and most of the meds, but he has to meet the deductible before they will cover anything, and that means paying retail for his meds, not the copays. I can get an FSA through my employer, and we can afford to contribute enough to cover his deductible so we could spread out the cost over the course of the year. But when I looking it up, healthcare.gov says you can't use an FSA with an ACA plan. But it's my FSA that I can use personally or for any of my tax dependents. I just want to make sure we can cover his meds along with regular expenses like rent and not get dinged come tax return season. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2021 08:53 PM PDT My insurance covers dental health, but surely not teeth whitening. However, last time I went to the dentist they offered to make it so that the invoice would not specify which treatment was given. I asked if they could also do this for teeth whitening. What's the worst that could happen? Would the insurance company simply reject my claim or could they potentially get me for attempted fraud? Surely if they find out I can just play dumb and reply that I wasn't aware it's not covered? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Truck is total loss, and I need a vehicle for work. Couple questions. Posted: 03 Aug 2021 06:47 AM PDT Hello Everyone, Last week my wife and I were hit by a transport that came across our lane and off the road. My truck is a complete write off, absolutely NO question about it. It's a miracle we survived. It's a personal vehicle, but it is used for work. I am compensated by the km for use of the vehicle by my employer. This happened July 19, and I contacted insurance that day. I still haven't gotten any idea of what they will be paying me as compensation. My adjustor is currently on vacation, and the adjustor that is supposed to filling in for her is also away. I am extremely eager to get this sorted out as I work a high pressure job and need to be out on the road getting things done. Any advice on how to get this claim moving along faster, and what can I expect for timelines? My second question is in regards to what to expect for payment in the situation of a total loss. This is a 2020 truck that I paid $48,000 for, and will likely qualify for replacement. The 2021 version is $55,000. Do I expect them to pay me the cost of the 2021 model? Truck prices have gone through the roof in Canada, so even a used 2020 model is at least as much as what I paid in 2020 for my truck. I can tell from initial conversations with my adjustor that we are likely going to be debating this. Any help is greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Allstate Collection on older policy, what do i do? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 08:09 PM PDT Hey my dudes, I need expertise on how to handle this case since it's my first time scenaro dealing with this but... back in april of 2021, I had paid my insurance policy on april 10. added my sibling to my policy as a new driver on the 18th through phonecall, no more than 5 minutes the lady on the phone actually gave me a new quote on my policy so she can give me a better rate and wallah! got a new policy, but was not notified that i had e-documents i had to sign to finalize the policy nor was i told about a guess a remaining balance on my older policy that is sitting on my account? **am i suppose to pay that?? doesnt make sense to me if i already paid for the month on april 10th, and literally only had my sibling on my older policy for a dang minute before a new policy was provided for me and now i have to pay a balance that includes both of us for a policy no longer in use? i am furious because i was not told beforehand of the information and i refuse to pay the bill from the older policy and now it's in collections. first time ever. and i was ready to go out and get me second car and now this sh!t happened and dont know how to go about it. please, any advise would help since this screwed up my plans to purchasing a new car since im sure as heck know this ruined my credit score as well. Washington State long-term care tax - buy and cancel? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 08:06 PM PDT Any Washingtonians in here? I'm sure ya'll know about the upcoming LTC payroll tax that is both poor value and restrictive. I've read online that if insured by Nov 1, and you opt out by the end of the year, that it is a permanent opt-out and you can't opt back in. Apparently, you get a letter to provide to current and future employers to skip the tax. Does this mean that I can pay one annual premium, opt-out, and cancel, wasting a few hundred bucks for a lifetime of tax savings? I have no interest in the insurance and prefer investing for my financial planning. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Aug 2021 02:03 PM PDT Ok so this post is a bit of a follow up from a post a made a few days ago. Just wanted to clarify on a few things and ask questions about some issues that have come up. Link to original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Insurance/comments/os7qk3/lost_wages_from_accident/ First Post TLDR: Got in an accident while doing Uber Eats, not my fault. Just wanted to get my car fixed fairly, get a rental, and to not be broke and starving in the meantime. Since the first post, I did eventually receive a rental courtesy of the other parties' insurance, have spoken to an adjuster, and had the damaged assessed by some appraisal people who just kind of eyeballed it at my house and gave me an estimate. So far, so good, I guess. However, this was last week and it has all gone down hill since then. Firstly, despite my best efforts, Uber Eats will absolutely not allow me to use the rental car for work. I have called their support line a couple of times and been transferred to a handful of people, but no one could help me. I have tried emailing them many times, but alas, nothing there either. What it comes down to is that Uber is looking for a valid proof of insurance. I have provided them with my insurance as well as the insurance for the rental, but they won't accept it as they are pretty much looking for a typical insurance card with my name, the vehicle info, and policy number on it. They won't accept the insurance card for my (now wrecked) vehicle and the proof of insurance provided by the rental agency isn't doing it either. I spoke to the manager of the location that I received the rental, but the extra documentation he provided didn't help either. I was essentially told that while rentals can be used for deliveries, it is usually only through accepted rental car agencies (Enterprise is not listed as a partnered agency) and that if I cannot produce a valid form of insurance, I cannot drive with that vehicle. To add to my issues. The adjuster assigned to my case left town last week and won't return until the 9th. I have tried contacting the insurance agency and they did assign a second adjuster to my case, but I cannot contact her either. I have called two days in a row now and left messages, but none have been returned. Apparently, the insurance agency is experiencing a shortage of adjusters at the moment, and both of the agents assigned to my claim are from a third party. My family have told me to just work in the rental anyways, but Uber makes it clear on their website that "use of an unapproved rental car can result in permanent deactivation". I really don't want to risk the only job that works well around my school schedule, but I am afraid that if this drags on too long, I won't have any money to survive. I have a few questions that I would very much appreciate if any of you could help me on. First, is this a typical amount of time for insurance proceeding to take? (claim filed on July 26) Am I likely to receive lost wages, or will I have to fight them for it? Lastly, is there any other advice that you could think of that would aid me in my current situation? All answers are greatly appreciated! I hope you all are having a great day and I look forward to hearing your responses. edit: located in Idaho, United States. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Aug 2021 07:39 PM PDT Hi all! Looking to start doing courses to obtain my CISR designation. I am in Georgia and so far cannot find any in person courses for this. I see a lot of online options, but am nervous about not soaking it all up how I would do in a classroom setting. Does anyone have any recommendations of companies to go with for these courses? Also, is the testing portion at the end of each course difficult? I am confused how this works when everything is online. [link] [comments] |
Disability Insurance (overpayment deduction)? Posted: 03 Aug 2021 01:25 PM PDT Not sure if this is the right subreddit AT ALL, so delete me/redirect me whatever. sorry for the editing/formatting - i'm on mobile. They "accidentally" overpaid me more then $500, I told them last week something looked weird on my payment portal so they were going to put a stop to it. Now it hit my bank account and they act like it's my fault. They told me I can only send it back check or money order. Well, I don't have a checkbook (i'm 24, and bank in a different state which would require me buying checks and getting them mailed here) and i'm not interested in paying the $1.30 it costs to send a money order out of my pocket. I told them this (they don't care), and told me they don't reimburse the cost of the money order. They said I could credit the money to future checks but only towards the gross amount and then have to have a corrected W-2 at the end of the year (i'm not complicating my taxes). They've very been incredibly hard to deal with these last 7 weeks or so, I was thinking of deducting the $1.30 it'll cost me from the amount I have to send back. I broke a bone in my leg/ankle (can't drive) it's so inconvenient for me to even get to the postal service. Any advice? I don't need advice that says "grow up" etc. Just tell me if I'm gunna get my case/claim closed or sent to collections or something. edit: in MA, if location matters [link] [comments] |
My truck was totaled by elderly driver in my driveway. Now he’s not answering his insurance calls… Posted: 03 Aug 2021 07:54 AM PDT Crazy situation my truck was destroyed by 79 years old man who was looking @ his ABS light that came on while he was driving and hit my truck sending it flying almost to my neighbor driveway. So it took me several hours to find his correct and valid insurance policy since he gave wrong info to the cops. So I filled a claim with Nationwide which is his policy holder since I don't have a collision on my policy only liability here in Connecticut. Been calling his insurance every day and always the same thing oh we waiting for his story and for his callback… But he'll how long it's gonna take… 2nd the truck was towed away to towing company lot and who knows how much that's gonna be I don't have a lot of money to pay out of pocket. Should I call his number and try to tell him to call his insurance? It's really infuriating. I almost got killed by him if I didn't jump back while I was working outside trying to get my tools. Police totally seen his fault and he admitted that he was looking on the dashboard and when he looked up it was too late. I don't know what to do it really drive me crazy… [link] [comments] |
