    Calling cops on ecommerce scammers?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 02:32 PM PDT

A customer claimed that they didn't receive their $200 package despite it being marked as delivered. My policies state we aren't liable (as for one, it's your responsibility to protect against stolen packages, and for two, I can never tell who's lying). However, USPS delivers to the wrong address often enough that I feel like most of them are telling the truth, so I decided to start giving them store credit because I felt I was burning too many customers with this policy.

Anyway, that customer then tried to re-sell my items online and posted it on social media.... bruh, what are you doing lmao.

I don't really care much about the money and the effort of trying to recoup the money will far outweigh the potential reward. That being said, I was curious if I did do one attempt at getting them to pay by threatening to call the police, could I even call them? They live in another state. Like, if I call their local police station and report a theft, will the police actually go there to speak to them and get a report filed? If so, that might be just enough for them to pay it and move on.

How to deal with client not paying my invoice

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 10:43 PM PDT

I have a small repair business and I have a client who does not want to pay my $250 invoice. I tried emailing and texting and no response.

I probably won't be able to collect the money. But is there anything else I could do to annoy him besides letting him get away with it?

    I'm in Los Angeles.

Move from high salary to startup

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:43 AM PDT

Hi! One of the reasons I'm sure a lot of folk don't start their own business (it's definitely always stopped me) is having a secure and decent salary.

I'm really looking for advice or at least opinions of how other has made the jump to starting your own business.

    1. I have little capital - so ill need to moonlight, which is fine.
    2. At some point I'll however need to make the jump as hopefully my business will overtake my current salary

It's not really a question, note just looking for folk to share how you've done it , I appreciate it, thanks

    My sweater business

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 09:43 AM PDT

Hi, my real nickname is Galaxy Skull Artist, so far I made multiple designs to create a sweater. It's supposed to be handmade, like really soft and fluffy sweater, I had thoughts to myself, how am I supposed to make 1000 handmade sweaters, I can't do it with my own hand! I want to make a big business where I get to sell multiple things at once, but I don't know where to begin, I need some sort of company or my own to create that many handmade sweaters, and there is no way I can do it handmade on my own. It's time consuming and I got other projects to work such as my YouTube channel. Any advice? Thank you.

    Question about my EIN

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 02:50 AM PDT

So I have a small business and just recently got a EIN for it. I've already completed and submitted my taxes under my SS#. My question is, should I submit 1040x amendments to reflect my EIN on my schedule C's?? My business has been in open since 1/1/2018, should I amend back to 2018?? At least for recording purposes?

    Business idea

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 02:48 AM PDT

    Hey guys

Just have a question about a potential business idea and if it's a saturated market or not.

So I'm thinking of starting a business where I help companies to save money on overheads and then I would take a cut of the savings that they would make. So I work engage electricity companies and other suppliers and see where I can save them money.

    Thoughts anyone ?

How to create an income budget as a consultancy

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:29 AM PDT

When your business is a consultancy (reply of clients accepting work from you) how do you make a monthly income plan? I mean you could go on historically averages I guess, but you could also get a random client out of nowhere or literally no clients for weeks, would be interested to know how other consultancy businesses do this

I'm seeking advice on a low cost option to create contracts , don't have the cash to speak to lawyers right now, it's a really new startup. Thank you

How do you advertise to b2b clients

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 12:52 AM PDT

Hi I have a business analytics consultancy , but I'm struggling to get clients.

Looking for advice on how to advertise to b2b clients? I thought FB, Instagram , tiktok (social) wouldn't be so relevant as it's a bit too informal.

Any suggestions would be appreciated 🙏

Finding Funding where the amount needed is small? (15-50k?)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:11 PM PDT

Hi everyone, I never thought i'd have so much trouble finding funding for a done & dusted deal.

I'm buying a business & funding it through the SBA, its got a large seller note on it & the cash flow greatly cover both the seller note & the commercial loan, the thing is the SBA wants 10% in. In my case it's only 27k. The issue is I don't have it so I've gone to look for a private investor but constantly run into the issue of "not being big enough" or since this is the first acquisition in a series of many, nobody wants to be the first one.

Even with seeing the financials & the ability to pay it back at the close + interest it's a struggle.

I know there are a lot of people here who've actually started a business from scratch & did things the hard way so something like this should be easy to navigate.

Where exactly can I go or look to for someone to invest in this?

    I appreciate your time

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 06:39 PM PDT

I just file articles of orgnization with the California SoS. I plan to open a coffeeshop, but need the LLC to open a bank account to get the place. So for my business address I listed my home address and plan to change it once i acquire the physical location. I felt like I might have made a mistake. Is there any cons to temporary using my home address. No Business will be conducted until the physical location is acquired.

    Advice buying a small business

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 04:28 PM PDT

A friend of mine wants to buy a small ice cream store. He is a 20 something year old with no experience of owning a business. He has good credit, and the business is being sold for 250k. He only has 8k in savings. How would he go about buying this small store? Obviously he has to take out a loan. What kind of professional would he need to use? I'm thinking he needs an accountant/bookkeeper, and a lawyer maybe but where would he find a loan? Any advice welcome

What smb software does everyone use?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 04:05 PM PDT

I'm sure this question gets asked a lot, but I've been reading up on many of the various inventory/tax/income expense software and I just can't seem to find anything that has exactly what I'm looking for. Either they are way too complicated (I don't need warehouse inventory), or they only keep track of either expenses or inventory and not both. I run a small business out of my garage with a simple website and I make my main items by hand. However my goal is to start also buying some items wholesale as soon as I get my business license. I have been a terrible business person up to this point not keeping track of my finances but now I really have to since my state requires quarterly tax filings. Thanks in advance!

Using Square to process payments for a brick-and-mortar shop/gallery: Help with individual payouts?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:13 PM PDT

I'm sorry, but I'm so lost with this one.

I recently joined up with a gallery where they informed me that they use Square for card payments. The people are very nice, but also older (55+) and not quite tech-savvy.

All the people in the gallery space are paid the amount for each of their items that is sold, of course.

They have a Square reader dongle that connects to your personal phone via app, and I was told that all sales made go into the account of the person who rang up the sale NOT the artist who made the piece, and that person who rang up the sale is responsible for transferring it to the correct person once the money is available.

Fwiw, I genuinely believe this is a case of a less tech-savvy generation just doing what they think is easiest & that there is nothing nefarious going on. However, I believe this is ill-advised (obviously) and adds a lot more stress than needs to be. Yes, I very much understand how not-great this system is, which is why I have been trying to find a better solution.

Actual question: That said, is there a way that the money obtained from sales of certain items from certain artists be transferred into the artist's account instead of the cashier's account? I searched quite a few "help" thread on the Squareup site, but I can't quite find what I'm looking for, if such a solution exists at all.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

EDIT: I may have found a solution!! I think you can print out your own QR codes and have them scanned to have the money go straight to you!

Dashboard --> Online Checkout --> Create Checkout Link --> Sell an Item --> (create or select an item, then:) Create Link --> QR Code: Create --> Download QR Code --> Done!

Hopefully this will make things much easier.

Can you post other brands' content on your social media business page?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 03:07 PM PDT

For example let's say I run a makeup business and I sell lipgloss, am I allowed to post pictures of other brands lipglosses? Not to use them as my brands product or say I'm partnering with them, just posting because it's cute and fits my brand's theme.

Like, I don't know if you're allowed to post other businesses content on a page you're making money from.

    Online shopify Sales tax question

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 09:07 AM PDT

I'm getting myself worked up over this. It's tax free weekend in TN so I tried to switch my Shopify to not charge tax. I think I messed something up and removed taxes completely. So now I'm not sure how to charge taxes now across all states. I've been googling and getting myself so confused. I only sell clothing online and I ship all over. Do I charge taxes everywhere? Just TN? Certain states? TIA!
