Cracked windshield in Class A RV

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 08:01 PM PDT

I recently bought an older class A RV that had a 6" crack in the right windshield. I let it be since it was small and didn't worry about it. After 7 weeks of driving it, a car kicked up a giant rock and hit the windshield, where there is now a huge crack(also the right side). If I tell my insurance company about this, will my windshield still be replaced/repaired even though I had a previous crack?

Moved to Europe from the US - do insurance companies communicate?

    Posted: 01 Aug 2021 01:52 AM PDT

I've recently moved to the EU from the USA and need to get renters insurance & a personal articles policy.

My question is: can insurance companies in Europe see my past claims in the US?

I'm curious how any claims back home may affect my rates in Europe. Clearly the social security # system isn't relevant here but maybe there's another system just for insurance companies in not aware of.

    Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

    Dog Sitter

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 01:53 PM PDT

Hey there! We had a gasket leak on the back of our toilet while we were out of town and now we're dealing with the fallout. Because we're a family of four who will need to move out for 2 weeks+ for them to refinish out hardwoods, I'm assuming State Farm will pay to put us up at a hotel. Will they pay for an AirBNB instead? How does that work?

Also, what about our dog? If we can't find a dog friendly AirBNB we'll need to arrange for our dog's care which is going to cost us. Will State Farm pay for this? Additionally, our contractor says it's a good idea to keep the dog out of the house for awhile even after we move back in because her claws can still damage a newly finished floor.

    Thanks in advance!

Did I miss out on a roof replacement?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 05:06 PM PDT

    Maybe there's some loophole….!

Moved into house 6/23 with homeowners insurance. After they did inspection they called and basically told me I need a new roof. They didn't tell a "due date" or anything and told me they'll contact me again in a few weeks, weird right?

Out of the norm, today a contractor knocked on my door and asked if they could inspect for hail damage from a storm that occurred on 6/6. And that they've already replaced 3 of the previous roofs in the neighborhood and that they're replacing one more this week. He said my roof is a grand slam case for hail damage insurance claim.

Am I SOL since I moved in on the 23rd?

Hit and run with minimal damage caught on security camera

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 10:41 PM PDT

Hello, My vehicle was involved in a hit and run while it was parked in front of my workplace. I was in my office and heard a loud thump outside. I checked my cameras and saw a car back into my parked vehicle and hit my front bumper. I got the driver, car model, and license plate clearly on video since the accident happened right in front of my cameras. Driver kinda stopped but didn't get out then just left not knowing there was 2 cameras that captured everything including his face.

It sounded loud, and shook the vehicle. I thought my front end was super damaged. When I went to check the damage it was 2 smaller scratches as shown in the picture linked. The reason I'm posting is because my vehicle is a brand new 2021 and pissed me off that the driver didn't stop to check damage and wonder if it made any internal damage.

I believe the driver at fault is a customer of the business next door to mine.

My question is should I just get a quote from a scratch removal person and tell my business neighbor to hand over his contact info to ask him to pay or should I report him to my insurance and let him get in some trouble. Would my insurance even care since it's minimal damage? Or is there a chance of internal damage?

This happened in Riverside, California USA Thanks

I renewed my car insurance and forgot to update my address after moving.

I live in Texas, I moved about a month ago, forgot to update my address before renewing the policy yesterday, noticed today when accessing my proof of insurance. Should I call the company to update it or just change it online? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Younger brother wrecked my parked car while learning to drive.

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 06:00 PM PDT

    Texas, US

My brother was trying to pull into the driveway for the first time, panicked and floored it instead of braking. He was not hurt. He's not on the insurance. No airbags deployed in either car.

My car is drivable but it's not pretty. My mechanic friend is thinking it's a total. It's a 2017, full coverage, still making payments on it.

My brother was driving my dad's old beater with bare bones insurance. He doesn't even care if it is fixed or not, but it's not drivable.

I already filed a claim, booked a shop, and arranged a loaner car.

What will happen now? Will my dad's rates skyrocket? Will mine? Will anybody get into legal trouble since my younger brother was not on the insurance?

Sorry for all the questions, I've been driving 10 years and have not once had to even use my insurance.

Is it true that insurance agents are expected to buy their own leads?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 09:21 PM PDT

I have my property and casualty license and I got a job offer from an insurance agency. They told me that they would provide me with leads and that I don't have to travel or get referrals.

But after researching I found several articles that said that you're expected to buy your own leads. Or, if you use company leads that gets taken out of your commission.

Is that true? Is this why the turnover rate is so high? How much are you supposed to invest?

Power surge home insurance A/C question

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 08:40 PM PDT

Last week our power flickered and my A/C would not cool the house. After a weekend call it was about $230 to add freon. Now I wonder if it somehow caused a leak.

Would homeowners insurance possibly cover this? I have USAA. If they have to search for awhile for a leak or replace a part I know a visit can be expensive.

Also do I have to have some definite proof it was a power surge?

    Medical Billing for wrong person

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 11:06 AM PDT

WI - A person with the same name, possible same date of birth, and living in the same state as my mother has been getting all their hospital bills paid by her insurance. I called the hospital systems multiple time in the past, and yet, it happens over and over again. We don't find out until we get a statement of the services they paid for randomly in the mail. While there is no balance, my mother's insurance shouldn't be paying for their bills.

I just called the insurance today for them to deny the claim and the guy told me to call the hospital to reverse the claim on their side. At this point, what are my next steps? Do I just keep calling the hospital each and every single time we get these random statements? My mother is thinking about talking to a lawyer at this point, but any advice/guidance is much appreciated.

How is the annual cost of your auto premium decided?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 07:16 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I just had a quick question. We recently purchased a CPO 2018 BMW 540i. Prior to this we had a leased 2018 Porsche Panamera which we turned in a year early. It was new when we leased it. I thought that we would have a nice decrease in our annual premium going from a new, quite expensive Porsche to a used, 3 year old BMW. I was surprised when I received my updated premium price which shows that my annual premium for the BMW is actually $24 more than the Porsche premium was. (We also got rid of our other car so we lost our multi-car discount but all our other discounts show as still in place. We've been customers with our agency for many years.) I plan to call to have clarification on Monday, but I'm racking my brain in the meantime trying to understand why the premium is the same for a used car that even brand new was half the price of the Panamera.

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks in advance!

I have a pretty unique situation: My car is too new for a KBB value so how should I proceed? (California)

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 06:17 PM PDT

    Hello all,

I bought a VW ID. 4 two weeks before involving a not-at-fault accident. The auto shop is estimating a ~$15k repair bill.

Since the model of the car was only a few months old, KBB doesn't have an used value of the car.

My question to you is, 1. Any chances that I can get a new car because of the accident? Police report has said that it's the other party's fault, if that matter.

    1. What is the threshold in CA to have a car totaled?

    2. Since the other party uses the same insurance company, how likely the company would rather fix my car instead of giving me a new one even if I were eligible?

    Thanks!

    Liability and seatbelts...

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 06:05 AM PDT

At fault party injures someone in an auto accident. Injured party, it turns out, was not wearing a seatbelt. In your experience, will this fact impact the settlement in any way? Will they be paid less, for not doing their due diligence to prevent the injury?

Dr claims to take insurance but we have $800 bill?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 08:47 AM PDT

My wife called her old psychiatrist and asked if they take her Medicaid. The receptionist said that they weren't taking new patients with Medicaid and my wife has been there before so she took the insurance info down and everything seemed fine. That was 4 months ago… they now tell us that they don't accept the Medicaid and they never have and that we have a bill of $800 to pay. I have so many questions.

Why weren't we told earlier? Why were we told they accepted it? Why wasn't the billing problem brought up sooner?

Is there anything we can do? I don't know who to go or talk to. I am very frustrated and they aren't open on the weekends :/

    Thank you!

Had a minor accident with a bus should I notify my insurance company?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 04:11 PM PDT

The other day my partner's car got hit by a bus which thankfully turned out to be extremely minor with a small dent and a scratch, nothing more. The bus itself appeared not to have any damage.

The bus company immediately sent out a representative who gave us a form with their details and they took our details.

The bus representative said that they handled stuff like this "internally" and were not likely going to process any insurance claim on their side as the damage did not appear to be serious or over their threshold of $2000.

We know that usually you should always contact companies when you have an accident but the bus company rep said that they likely weren't going to do it on their side because the bus did not sustain any damage.

So far we haven't notified our insurers of the accident because we are scared of our rates going up. But at the same time we are worried that there might be some sort of corporate "shared database" between insurance companies and that the accident would be flagged by the bus company if they reported it which would alert our insurance company. My question is this possible?

    TLDR

Is it possible that we can get away with not notifying our car insurance company or is there some sort of shared database that insurance companies share that they could find out from the other party if they do decide to claim?

How do I fix a mistake on an insurance form?

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 12:31 PM PDT

I have been filling out an authorization and appeals form for Optum. I accidentally wrote both first and last name in the first name section - I was wondering if this would invalidate the document. Or could I just cross out the last name and write it in the appropriate section? This is my first time, so I am not sure if this is a big deal or not.

    This is in California btw

Insurance claim for nail in tires

    Posted: 31 Jul 2021 11:08 AM PDT

Background: I lease a 2020 Subaru (mileage at 14,300) and did not not have tire protection (although I thought I got it....)

The other day, I had a nail in my tire. Since it was close to the sidewall, they could not patch it up and send it on my way. With it being a lease, I called Subaru again (took it to another location to get fixed) and asked about tire replacement. I was informed that so long as the tires are within 3/32nd, I can get it fixed. Turns out, it was not and all tires had to be replaced with the same tires that are on the car. Visibly frustrated, I took my car for a second opinion and was informed (all I mentioned was that I was in a dispute with Subaru about tires), and the technician verbatim explained to me Subaru's policy due to a whole slew of things with the tires not being the same such as transmission, viscous coupling disc, overdrive, etc. Thus, I felt like I had no option but to replace all 4 tires. I am now $750.00 in the hole :/

Is there any grounds to file an insurance claim for my $750.00 nail in tire?
