Posted: 10 Jul 2021 07:02 AM PDT Im tired of all these books that talk smart stradegies or throws smart facts at you Entrepenuers without showing you real experience and real proof and step by step process that someone actually did and the result he got. After reading almost 50 books, I am going share with you the most powerful books that not just make you love the book after you read it like most books try to get you, but also really be able to execute and use the information there with clarity. Lets start: 1.) Hacking growth- at least in the beginning, the book gives you real Entrepenuers with real examples of how they managed to get their company from 0 to be the leader of the industry although they had huge monopoly competitors. I especially liked the story of dropbox there, they were a tiny competitor compared to Microsoft and other big tech companies, they had much less money but at the end managed to grow tremendously despite all the odds were against them. 2.) founders at work by Jessica Livingstone- shows you the real beginning of huge companies today like PayPal, the first days, the coming up with the ideas, the pivot, the first customer, the breakthrough.. everything in such detail.. 3.) Choose Yourself by James Altucher- this dude literally shares so much examples of real Entrepenuers, literally right after reading his book I managed to get tons of business ideas out of nowhere and since the process that he shows in his examples is so clear, I managed to execute on them really fast. I could write more, but for now I wanted to give you only the best ones. If you have suggestions, or books similar to this, share below to the community! [link] [comments] |
(Update) I took your advice and got up and did something Posted: 10 Jul 2021 12:35 PM PDT I made a post earlier this week. I made a sold terrariums my local farmers market. I also had some scrap metal sculptures that I had made over the past few months to kill time. The scrap metal art sold better than the terrariums, mind you the terrariums were kind sloppy and just thrown together. Over 6 hours I made 130$ plus another 150$ in additional orders to recreate a particular sculpture. We made back our initial 70$ cost for jars for terrariums and plan to use our profits to buy some useful items like tables and busijesss cards Things that you guys said that worked well: -have an IG account setup to stay in touch with customers -write down everything like transactions and items sold -engage with customers even if it's just saying good morning. Can't count the number of people that didn't even look at our stand until I said good morning Things to do better next time: -cleaner more organized terrariums -terrarium info sheet explaining how they work -business cards -dog water bowl station -an additional table to place weld art and a table cloth to add contrast. -clean up sharp edges on metal art All in all it was a great experience and I'm glad I did it. It was intimidating as fuck but was totally worth it and learned a lot for next time and we grew our customer bass. We now have 7 people following us on IG and more that mentioned they wanted to see us back at the same farmers market next weekend. I gotta get welding. [link] [comments] |

How important is the domain extension for a new online store for a small business? (.com, .ca, .co) Posted: 10 Jul 2021 10:52 AM PDT I am in the process of getting my idea off the ground and need to register a domain name. The business name/brand that I want does not have the .com domain available. I'm based in Toronto and could use the .ca extension, as it is available. I've read that .com is the most universal extension. If I change my name/brand slightly, the .com would be available for the slightly different name. Depending on the importance of the domain extension, I may or may not want to change my desired business name. I'm just starting out, but I have dreams of expanding my business/brand as I grow. I've also come across .co as an alternative. What advice can you give me about domain extensions? Is it worth it to keep the business name/brand I want and go with a .ca or .co? (FYI the .com that I want is currently a parking page and I'm not that interested in pursuing brokering a deal to obtain it as I'm just starting out.) [link] [comments] |
Where to find help naming my startup? Posted: 10 Jul 2021 01:01 PM PDT Hi all, I was looking through options for help naming my dental loupes and light company. As the brand is a major part of my value proposition, I wanted to create a new that reflects my brand as a young, trendy design for the new generation. Any leads on where I can get help with high end brand naming with a medieval/Gaelic/European feel? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jul 2021 09:00 AM PDT Not all officers are built the same, and many would like to know if an officer with a track record of brutality is someone they are dealing with. Concept: An app that allows users to look up an officer by license plate, badge #, or similar identifying material to see a list of complaints listed against the officer. When a Situation is started, device will begin recording(video/audio) to a cloud so it cannot be deleted from the device. Users can set a threshold of complaints that, if greater than X complaints on an officer looked up, will automate a call to emergency services requesting back-up that the user feels unsafe with the current officer. Where should I go or look into if I want to try selling baked desserts directly to customers? Posted: 10 Jul 2021 06:49 AM PDT I don't want to invest a lot of money into an idea and just want to try it out if it'll nibble. Wondering where do you think I can go to stand and sell baked goods to customers? Thank you so much! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 10 Jul 2021 06:41 AM PDT Hey everyone, I've worked as a web dev, operated ecommerce side hustle, but recently I've been hired by a forward-thinking company which I've helped with growth dev stuff. Together we worked on coming up with creative ideas on cutting customer acquisition costs by 10x (that was the goal) and tried a bunch of things. Really liked working with them, and through the project we came up with a couple of ways, one of them being very striking: Basically, it's about targeting your competitor's customers directly. We're using a bunch of publicly available data, some "gray area" data (which is totally legal - their legal team looked into it, but to extract you need certain custom scripts), and two secret sauce ingredients we've developed with the team. Works no matter what sector you're targeting, or location, or anything else. They're already using it for the new shops they're building. Since I've tried and succeeded in turning this into an internal tool for them, after receiving their blessing and even getting their investment commitment, I'm working on building this as a B2B tool everybody can use (from big corps to one-man shop dropshippers). Because the tool means means lower ad costs, higher targetings and conversions! Achieved 1/8 the regular CAC for one of their stores. With good creatives, good product & good experience on top of this (which they already had), one can build a rocketship, basically. Only problem is, we are not sure how sustainable the tool would be for the users: We haven't been experimenting with it for 3-4 years, after all, just 3-4 months now. Good thing is, unless you're spending $200-300k/mo, everything should be fine. So yeah, I'm looking for early access beta testers. You will be paying a certain amount, since there are big infrastructure costs for this, but it will be discounted since there might be bugs and other issues - you're an early adapter after all, highly appreciated! So please let me know if you're interested and we can talk. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Guide for Entrepreneurs: How to get rich without being lucky Posted: 10 Jul 2021 01:16 AM PDT Hi Folks! Picked up an interesting (and much famous thread) from twitter by a user named Naval (founder of AngelList) on twitter. Here's a summary of the tweetstorm. Link to the twitter thread - https://twitter.com/naval/status/1002103360646823936 --------------------- Seek wealth, not money or status. Wealth is having assets that earn while you sleep. Money is how we transfer time and wealth. Status is your place in the social hierarchy. Understand that ethical wealth creation is possible. If you secretly despise wealth, it will elude you. Ignore people playing status games. They gain status by attacking people playing wealth creation games. You're not going to get rich renting out your time. You must own equity - a piece of a business - to gain your financial freedom. You will get rich by giving society what it wants but does not yet know how to get. At scale. Pick an industry where you can play long term games with long term people. The Internet has massively broadened the possible space of careers. Most people haven't figured this out yet. Play iterated games. All the returns in life, whether in wealth, relationships, or knowledge, come from compound interest. Pick business partners with high intelligence, energy, and, above all, integrity. Don't partner with cynics and pessimists. Their beliefs are self-fulfilling. Learn to sell. Learn to build. If you can do both, you will be unstoppable. Arm yourself with specific knowledge, accountability, and leverage. Specific knowledge is knowledge that you cannot be trained for. If society can train you, it can train someone else, and replace you. Specific knowledge is found by pursuing your genuine curiosity and passion rather than whatever is hot right now. Building specific knowledge will feel like play to you but will look like work to others. When specific knowledge is taught, it's through apprenticeships, not schools. Specific knowledge is often highly technical or creative. It cannot be outsourced or automated. Embrace accountability, and take business risks under your own name. Society will reward you with responsibility, equity, and leverage. The most accountable people have singular, public, and risky brands: Oprah, Trump, Kanye, Elon. "Give me a lever long enough, and a place to stand, and I will move the earth." - Archimedes Fortunes require leverage. Business leverage comes from capital, people, and products with no marginal cost of replication (code and media). Capital means money. To raise money, apply your specific knowledge, with accountability, and show resulting good judgment. Labor means people working for you. It's the oldest and most fought-over form of leverage. Labor leverage will impress your parents, but don't waste your life chasing it. Capital and labor are permissioned leverage. Everyone is chasing capital, but someone has to give it to you. Everyone is trying to lead, but someone has to follow you. Code and media are permissionless leverage. They're the leverage behind the newly rich. You can create software and media that works for you while you sleep. An army of robots is freely available - it's just packed in data centers for heat and space efficiency. Use it. If you can't code, write books and blogs, record videos and podcasts. Leverage is a force multiplier for your judgement. Judgement requires experience, but can be built faster by learning foundational skills. There is no skill called "business." Avoid business magazines and business classes. Study microeconomics, game theory, psychology, persuasion, ethics, mathematics, and computers. Reading is faster than listening. Doing is faster than watching. You should be too busy to "do coffee," while still keeping an uncluttered calendar. Set and enforce an aspirational personal hourly rate. If fixing a problem will save less than your hourly rate, ignore it. If outsourcing a task will cost less than your hourly rate, outsource it. Work as hard as you can. Even though who you work with and what you work on are more important than how hard you work. Become the best in the world at what you do. Keep redefining what you do until this is true. There are no get rich quick schemes. That's just someone else getting rich off you. Apply specific knowledge, with leverage, and eventually you will get what you deserve. When you're finally wealthy, you'll realize that it wasn't what you were seeking in the first place. But that's for another day. PS: If you want to make your '5 hour work week dream' a reality then check out my friend's reddit post Have a great day :) PS: If you want to make your "5 hour work week dream" a reality then check out my friend's reddit post. Are there KPI‘s or lead indicators for delegation? Posted: 10 Jul 2021 10:49 AM PDT This one is a bit tricky. I'm currently focused on trying to be better about delegation with my team and I'm looking for some KPI's or lead measures that I can track throughout the week that will tell me if I'm heading in the right direction. Sales teams have: # of leads, # of outbound calls, # of proposals sent… But how do you track something that feels more subjective like delegation? [link] [comments] |

Ecommerce business run from my garage making $593k/year. How to scale and where to go next? Posted: 09 Jul 2021 05:35 PM PDT Hi entrepreneurs, I've been running an ecommerce business out of my garage for 4 years now, and we've just got our annual financials processed. Looking at the figures, I don't know how to scale and where to go next. I feel like we're not making enough profit to grow and have plateaued our monthly revenue at $50-55k. Our products are mostly hobby electronics. Please don't ask me for the URL or shop name. Firstly, our financials: For the year ended 31 march 2021:
As you can see above, we're averaging a 30% markup on products. I know this is low but our game is high turnover and our market is very competitive on pricing. Our customers know they can purchase our products directly from china cheaper but we beat them with overnight shipping and great customer service. I run the shop full time and have a part-time worker help with customer service. Our salaries currently come out of the $106k profit. Why is it hard to grow revenue? Our niche is pretty small and although it is growing, it is still quite unheard to most people. My country is small too and we've got a fairly large market share. Overseas markets are saturated and we won't be able to expand there. My goals for the business:
What would you do to scale? I'm sure there's information missed, so please ask. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jul 2021 05:41 AM PDT I believe it was up here a few months ago but I haven't been able to find it. It showed stuff that converts on product pages. Prices should be in thin font, and striked out price (compare price) should be red and bold. Stuff like that. Anyone? [link] [comments] |
Looking for mentorship/advice for making Children's Products Posted: 10 Jul 2021 09:25 AM PDT Hi r/Entrepreneur! I'm looking to connect with someone who has had experience navigating the requirements and regulations surrounding children's products in the US market - specifically conforming to CPSC's guidelines. If anyone has had such experience, would love to pick your brain as it's quite overwhelming for our small up-and-coming project right now. Thank you so much in advance! [link] [comments] |
How to succeed freelancing online(as a programmer)? Posted: 10 Jul 2021 05:01 AM PDT I work as a full-time software developer. I want to increase my income with a side business. I'm really interested in using my skills for online freelancing, but I do understand one must have the necessary knowledge on how to build and succeed online on spaces like Upwork. I have tried and failed on gig sites like Upwork, and I acknowledge it's because I don't have the necessary knowledge and perhaps unknown other skills that one has to acquire to succeed. I would like to enroll in a really good course specifically on Udemy or similar, focused on Freelancing online as a programmer/web developer/software developer/etc. I'm not necessarily looking for free, but hopefully not too expensive, yet I do understand I get what I pay for. Can someone please recommend a course or contribute your knowledge below? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 10 Jul 2021 08:46 AM PDT Just a random business concept that came to mind. Unionizing is not an easy task for most employees as at some point someone needs to lead the charge. Workers need an easy and anonymous way to become a part of a group that, once critical mass is hit, will begin the formal legal process to get them their rights. Build-out: A site that allows users to sign-up with an interest to unionize by company, industry and region. Knowledge base of the process, timeline, risks, etc. A way to crowdsource demands(X hours/week max, $x minimum wage, etc.) and showcase what others are interested in obtaining. How many people are expected to be needed, and how many are currently pledging to move forward with the union. Pledge amount - If certain requirements are met, person is willing to pledge $X towards unionizing. Pledge Goal Profitability: While this will likely be a non-profit, union fees and admin fees can be quite lucrative. Being cross-industry and able to automate/share tools and resources amongst many unions, union fees can be lower with higher benefits for employees. [link] [comments] |
I don't think entrepreneurship is for me Posted: 10 Jul 2021 02:31 AM PDT I'm 26. I haven't started a business. I have an idea to start a clothing company. My life is very much balanced where I go to the gym 3x a week, work 60 hours a week, learn Spanish and work in film one the weekend with a team of three - starting a production company. I have this need to create a business I can call my own without business partners as a way of showing I can start something on my own. I just don't have the energy after work to work on building a business I own myself because I'm exhausted by the end of the day from work, the gym and general life maintenence. I like having balance in my life and I'm not willing to give up my commitments just for to be an entrepreneur. My only minor entrepreneurial success has been developing a self-made project which I successfully incorporated into the place I work but it's taken the CEO to drive it forward and for me to continue on as a Digital Marketing Lead and Project Officer. I couldn't have done it alone and now I'm integral in my workplace. However, looking at myself and my experience, I know that if I really wanted to start a sole business I would have done it. My end goal is to be wealthy and have an investment portfolio (stocks, property) but I'm aware none of the things I'm doing allow me to do that without entrepreneurship. My job doesn't pay well yet because I'm at the beginning of my digital marketing career in a social enterprise (which I love by the way) with career trajectory. So, I'm tied between giving up my balanced life for entrepreneurship which is too difficult to sacrifice. I'm also too agreeable, super calm about life and just too cool about everything. I don't have that massive drive and need to succeed like I see from the CEO of my company and my roommate who lives and breathes entrepreneurship and risk taking. When I sit down to start working on an idea when I am super tired, I can only do it for 20mins before giving up thinking I don't want this bad enough. I'm starting to think it's better to accept I'm a number 3/4 in a company than a number one. And accept I don't have that massive urge for success like other people. Is this normal? What's wrong with me? What am I doing wrong? TLDR: I don't think entrepreneurship is for me as I am too calm, agreeable and prefer a balanced life but still want to be an entrepreneur. Is something wrong? [link] [comments] |
I am 22 and I build AI that can write mind-blowing professional sales copy faster than any human. Posted: 10 Jul 2021 04:03 AM PDT I quit my job in 2019 and started a small business. Most of my customers came from different businesses looking for someone who could provide website support to their projects including writing content and sales copy for them. Otherwise, they wouldn't want to hire me because they were looking for a full package or someone who was able to do both that I couldn't offer them. First, I said no to two companies that asked me to write marketing content for them. In the meantime, I decided to see if it was possible to create an AI tool that could automatically do the job for me. I have a solid experience with machine learning and natural langue processing; so I started building it and eventually got around to creating CopywriterPro.ai Feel free to ask me any questions. If you are interested in my journey I will write a detailed post about things I've learned and how it's all going. Thank you. Demo Video: https://streamable.com/mco9qh [link] [comments] |
