Gave my notice. Employer countered w promotion. Sales and Selling

Gave my notice. Employer countered w promotion.

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 11:40 PM PDT

I have to decide by Tuesday. It's been almost a week and my mind is not made and that scares me.

On Monday, I gave my notice to a well established food distribution company in the northeast. Four years here and my only sales experience. The previous fourteen years I worked in restaurants. As I grew tired of the long hours I transitioned to sales. The company was solid - seeded me VIP accounts in my second year which helped me grow my BoB to $6.5M. There is not one specific reason I wanted out. There are several systemic issues that have broken me down over the last year.

I accepted a lateral position for 30% less money within the same industry but the company sells equipment, disposables, and smallwares vs perishable foods. I could see myself there for years.

On Tuesday, I learned that my boss, the VP of sales, is also leaving. The owner asked to meet with me and offered a Director of Sales position with a hefty 40% raise. Essentially the duties the VP had but a lesser title. My immediate reaction, "I'm 35, my first baby is on the way, how could I say no?"

Now, almost a week since the offer and I feel stuck. I had a lot of my initial questions answered but I can't help feeling under qualified. I'd be managing a team of 14 who all have more experience than I do. My self-doubt is seriously getting in the way of seeing this opportunity for myself. I'm the youngest on the sales staff and have the least experience. What about those systemic issues? I wouldn't be dealing w them on a first hand basis any longer but would be managing the ones that do.

I asked my boss for his advice and why he is leaving. He is leaving for essentially the same issues I have. He said I would be stupid not to take this opportunity. I asked a friend of mine who left the company a year ago and he said the same thing. I ask anyone who will listen. Which brings me here. Idk what to do. A large part of me wants to take this promotion. A small part of me is saying I won't like it and will quickly want out again. Another part of me is saying that money isn't everything and to remember the reasons why I want to leave in the first place. Thank you all for listening.

Personality and getting a job in sales vs succeeding in sales

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 05:43 AM PDT

I find posters here are very open-minded about how different types of people can succeed in sales and how the stereotypical "salesman personality" is not necessarily the ideal, at least in more complex sales. Yet most entry-level job postings, no matter the industry, seem to ask for that "outgoing, high-energy" super extraverted personality, and for several applications, I've already had to do personality tests that obviously look for those characteristics. Whenever I select the responses that put me at the top of the extraversion category, I get great feedback about my results and get an interview or pass to the next round.

So I'm just saying, I believe you guys that a more introverted personality can do great in sales too, but if you want to get a job, it sounds like being perfectly honest about that is not going to work well at interviews.

Obviously, if you already have experience and can prove you are good, it's a different situation.

    Using Vidyard for BDR/SDR roles

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 11:50 AM PDT

Curious to see if anybody else has been utilizing Vidyard in their outbound e-mail strategy and if they have found it effective?

I have recently started using it and have yet to built up a good enough camera look, I either get distracted by the fact I am recording myself and lose train of thought and start mumbling.

For anybody using it I would love to hear your experiences, how many do you send a day, have you noticed your email ending up in more spam due to the video link, have you booked any meetings by using it, etc.

Good idea to transition to Sales/marketing?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 09:48 AM PDT

Little background, I work for one the biggest healthcare providers in the US. Been with them for almost 4 years. Been lurking this sub for a while now since I'm wanting out of my job "career" and wanting to transition into Sales/Marketing. I had a old coworker leave our company a couple years back for another company as a Sales/marketer. She recently had asked if I was still interested in leaving current job to another field/job. I have been wanting to dip my toes in this field/job for a while now. My only concern is that I just recently bought a house a week ago. Would it be a smart idea to transition into a sales/marketing job in my situation? New home owner?

    Thank you guys.

How to skip the BDR/SDR roles and go direct into Outside Sales w a good company?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 12:12 PM PDT

Little background: Worked for a large international bank in the credit dept for 3 yrs, quit before I got sucked too far down that rabbit hole knowing my extroverted and go getter personality was going to waste in a cubicle. Simultaneously, I started an eCommerce business which had about half a million in sales in less than 2 yrs and helped pad my bank account pretty well. Used that money to live out my dream of traveling abroad to 40+ countries which was initially to last 1-2 yrs, but due to good investments, lasted 6 yrs. Taught English along the way but nothing "professional."

I've been applying for jobs for a few wks but not getting a lot of luck. Seems the 6 yr gap isn't seen as a strength and I understand that, but I know I'm going to be a great salesman. Thought the half a million in sales over 2 yrs would carry weight, but since I'm applying for mostly B2B outside sales, seems that doesn't matter either.

I don't mind cold calling some, but am a people person and want to spend as much time interacting face to face as possible. So I'd rather skip the BDR role and get right into Outside sales.

So how do I make this happen? Do I have a better chance w a small company than larger? Should I just pick up the phone and call companies rather than them deny my online application?

    Thanks in advance for suggestions.

How difficult is it to get an entry level SDR/BDR job at big tech out of college?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 06:52 AM PDT

I'm currently thinking about making a career transition from accounting to sales. I'm a rising senior at a top 50 university with a 3.3 GPA (Our school is known for grade deflation though, guess which) , and I have 2 years of internship experience at Big 4. Is that "resume" good enough? I'm interested in grinding out 1-2 years and learning as much as I can before making the transition to a midsize firm.

Also, are there any recommendations for companies? I know Oracle is one, but I'd like one closer to NYC.

    Ty for reading

Why would I get 1 on 1 training when it’s usually in a group?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 07:35 AM PDT

Just got a job as an SDR and they usually hold group training. For me specifically she decided to reschedule and train me 1 on 1, why do you think that would be the case?

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? During our interview she said I am a strong candidate.

Started a new job with a top rated life insurance company last week. I’d like to hear people’s thoughts and advice.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 08:55 AM PDT

This is the first time in my 12 year sales career where I don't have to cold call - which is a huge +. However, I'm looking for advice as to how to conduct the intro with an inbound caller most efficiently, and effectively. My current role is a "Business Development Representative. My main goal is to get a potential customer transferred over to a licensed agent in their designated state. I've been having pretty good success doing it, but would like to try new approaches to get the transfer rate to increase. These calls are obviously very short and I need a quick way to build some rapport with the customer on the other line to answer the pre-qualifying questions to get them to the right agent. What kind of ice breakers, or for that matter introductions do you use that you've found to be effective? TIA!

Website to find work-from-home sales roles

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 12:11 PM PDT

I currently work from home 100% of the time. I love it and don't want that aspect to change, but I need to change out of this company. My role is in pharmaceutical software. Before this, I worked in medical device/dental sales.

What websites can I utilize to find sales roles allowing me to remain working from home? I look at LinkedIn, MedReps and First interview.com. If these are the best sites to use, what tips or tricks can I use when searching for roles that will filter out any roles that require travel?

What role buys digital ads in small, mid, and large companies? We're launching ads in our startups SaaS platform for other companies to advertise in our platform (not self service yet) and I'm looking for a couple long term deals -- but specifically guidance on roles to target ...

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 12:03 PM PDT

hi! I have a technical sales background that is mostly on the software security side, but joined a startup recently and we're launching our first digital ads internally on our own software product (b2b) this month. I have not sold digital ads before but have a strong b2b background.

We are a tool for b2b sales/marketing teams, and we're looking for 1-2 bigger company names and longer term contracts while we get this setup. We do have a very unique value prop targeting ad segments, specifically for sales/marketing tech companies.

For an example though of ads in our platform, think of reddit ads with one ad in a sub. We'll have something similar.

    For:

    1. Larger company: Say at Salesforce, who is the target role that can sign off on ads under $1 million?
    2. 1k-2k employee sized company: Marketing directors?
    3. 500 employee or below: CMO?

    Thanks for help here!

Does anyone have experience selling/leasing Heavy equipment?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 07:29 AM PDT

I currently am a full time contractor and part time realtor and want to transition to a more sales focused role. I found an opportunity with CAT to sell and lease equipment.

I've never done an official outside sales role. What should I expect in terms of prospecting and since I'm in a cold weather climate what about the winter season when no one will be in need of heavy equipment?

    Thanks all!

Short-term sales goals --- How to get revenue up ASAP?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 06:45 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

I'm the Director of a growing storefront but the recent IOS updates have taken a toll on our forecasted revenue. My boss has just tasked me with increasing short-term revenue the top priority and getting our numbers up ASAP in the next 1-2 months.

We sell sports memorabilia - taking sports greatest plays and turning them into something memorable. While we sell throughout the year, the bulk of sales comes from gifts (Xmas and Father's Day) and these next two months are actually typically our slowest.

What are some ideas of how I can get sales in ASAP? Ideally, low-cost...

A handful of things we currently do:

    • Fbook Ads
    • Google ads
    • Giveaways/promotions with related Twitter and IG accounts (yankees fans, lakers blogs, etc..)
    • Email campaigns to past customers

In the past, we haven't had great ROI on podcast ads or leaderboard ads on other websites.

Looking for creative ideas with high ROI! Any help would be appreciated.

    SaaS Inside Sales Manager Job

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 04:29 PM PDT

    Job Interview

Will be going for a Zoom job interview soon at SaaS company. This is the second round interview and I really want to get in at this company.

I'll be moving from a more traditional B2B sales job selling tangible products to SaaS selling services. So I have no experience selling SaaS and no management experience. I do, however, have 10 years sales experience with an MBA from a top 50 school internationally.

I would love some advice on what types of questions everyone thinks I should prepare for and what/how I can/do to make the sales GM feel comfortable with bringing me in for a face to face meeting.

    Thanks very much.

Do You think you need the “gift of the gab” to succeed in sales.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2021 02:41 AM PDT

I've been in sales for just under a year and people have been asking me how it's going and I tell them and they always go u need the gift of the gab to do well or you won't make any money u need to be born with it but I think people can definitely be taught to sell a product yes building a rapport is necessary but I think you just need to be social.

Best place to post hiring positions?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 08:34 PM PDT

LinkedIn Sales Manager is not filling me with joy, I'm worried about quality on Indeed.

Basic SDR position, decent base (?) of $40k with benefits. MQLs are rich enough, not a phone book job.

    Am I missing something?

    CTA Connected to Calendly?

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 05:02 PM PDT

What comes after a "schedule a consultation" CTA? I'm leaning towards a Calendly link, since I don't get that many random page views at this point (plus, I can always cancel rogue requests). Have you done this and what results did you get?
