    Best Sales Movies?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 10:50 PM PDT

I start my first big sales job in the big city on Tuesday. Looking for some motivation and entertainment in that Avenue. I've already seen Glengarry Glen Ross , Boiler Room, Wolf of Wall Street, the big short. Just Looking for any financial movies in that kind of area.

    Reaping What He Sows

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 12:47 PM PDT

I work for a company where our sales cycles are long and frustrating, and our commission plan has terrible loopholes because our CEO hates to pay sales people. To put it into perspective, we had a rep close a record 10M new contract after a long and stressful sales cycle, and she made 2500 commission off that contract -- she quit out of spite shortly after learning what her commission was going to be on her win.

As that other rep was quitting, I had a new (sleazy) peer start, and he didn't realize that our commission plan has loopholes, and that our sales engineering team is frustrating to work with, and so the first thing he did was snatch a lead for himself out of my territory, thinking I'm sure that he had pulled one out from under me.

Two months later, he has spent weeks of his life in the small town where this opportunity is based, and is already getting pressure from above about when he is going to close the deal. And he doesn't yet realize that even if he wins this opportunity, he is not going to make very much -- if any -- commission, since that shock usually comes after your first major win here.

Today in our 1:1, my boss wanted to know why I didn't fight harder to prevent my peer from stealing my lead. I said because my peer had the better relationships at that company so it was better for our company to run with it while I focused on my other opportunities. But the truth is that my peer is basically taking all the stress off my plate that I would have had if he hadn't stolen that opportunity from me; in essence, he is doing my heavy lifting for me while I work on other less stressful and closer-to-home things. And while he is stressing himself out, I am getting kudos from above on my other opportunities I'm working on. They won't make me much commission, but they don't have any stress attached to them either.

Sometimes bad things (lots of work for no extra money) happens to bad people (peers who steal our opportunities). I'm grateful it happened here, because this week while my peer is living in a cheap hotel room in a small town I will be sleeping in my own bed hahaha

Happiness is sleazy people reaping what they sow :)

    Must be the resume....right?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 03:40 PM PDT

I guess this is more of a question/advice thread.

Does anyone else feel like they are getting rejected from jobs that are even potentially a step back? I have nearly a decade of sales experience in multiple different industries, presidents club 2 years in a row at a fortune 50 and I am getting denied for jobs that call for 3 years of experience the same day?

Do most of you guys use a resume review/writing service? I was laid off right when the pandemic started (not as a result of the pandemic) and was provided career placement services where I had someone help write my resume, but still I am getting denied even before an intro call. I am tired of Family First Life reaching out via 40 different MLM companies so if you guys could drop some gems on who/what to look for in a resume service I would really appreciate it. I'm sure a lot of other people can benefit from it as well. Do I trust the LinkedIn "gurus" that can get me past the ATS, or go with Indeed that is offering it as well?

    Suggestions for a job description!

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 05:25 AM PDT

I desperately need your help, dear sales professionals! We are hiring a person from abroad as a new BDR and we need to tailor the job description to his degree for get his documents approved. And the degree is in modern language studies (with specialization: Spanish). Just putting the word Spanish in every sentence doesn't work. Considering you know the sales world well, could you please help me find the best words to describe how modern languages degree and sales could be related (beyond just fluency in a certain language)??

How to find person online ?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 05:17 AM PDT

I have significant amount of retail experience a 2 years of sales experience and a bachelors degree. I want to be a banker, Should I turn down bank teller jobs and wait for a personal banking role? I am being offered interviews as a relationship banker but my background is not typical

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 12:42 AM PDT

I think if I take a little bit more time to apply as a banker I could probably get that role vs having to start as a teller and retail all over again. Is it good idea to turn down the teller position and wait a bit for a personal banker role ? I'm just concerned I'd be left with nothing at all in the end if and turn down the teller and fail the banker interviews

    Is email dead?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 04:05 AM PDT

I've worked in sales for 10 years now, and having recently started a new role I am finding ZERO success with my email prospecting.

I started my career in headhunting, then onto MSP sales, and now I work for a SaaS firm delivering cyber security. I'm not super experienced, but I've been around long enough now.

I have researched and tried pretty much all forms of sales prospecting emails (with multiple follow ups), timing it differently, sending to multiple stakeholders, long form emails, hyper personalised emails, short emails... Sequences... LinkedIn.. you name it! I also make calls, I don't just rely on email - but these days no one answers a switchboard, so you need to be tactical there too.

In the last 2 months the response rate to emails has been devastatingly low - 1 in 45 (with follow ups). One caveat to my post - the hyper personalised emails to generate a higher response rate. However these often take 30 minutes to research and write.

My question to the group is... Does anyone else have this prospecting problem?

I hear people say cold calling is dead, but I completely disagree - sales emails are dead and the phone is our best friend!

    Getting Job References

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 09:35 PM PDT

I know it may sound counterintuitive but ask for a job reference from coworkers, employees, and managers as soon as you leave a company. Don't wait for weeks, months, or years down the road. You'll forget to ask and lose touch.

SaaS Sales BDR with Imposter Syndrome/Declining Mental Health

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:54 PM PDT

I've been out of school for a couple years, right out of undergrad I worked for a fortune 100 tech company in sales for a couple years, and recently started at a smaller but quickly growing SaaS company. I like the way they actually train us and lay out the sales process, but I feel like I'm failing miserably. I'm in my 3rd month and I'm the only person on my team that hasn't gotten any wins. I have more tech/sales experience than them, but they're older and just seem to be handling the whole thing better. I have like a month left to hit quota and I've convinced myself it's a matter of time before management realizes what a massive buffoon I am. Talking to and working with people is one of my greatest strengths, but the monotonous BDR tasks combined with my ADHD/likely depression has me in one of the worst places mentally I've ever found myself. How does an aspiring AE snap themself out of this?

New sales position offered. Should I take it?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 02:49 PM PDT

Hi! I'm a young sales person in my twenties trying to make a successful life for myself in this expensive hell hole we call California.

To start off, I currently work as a sales representative in the traditional cannabis market. I average $50-$60k sales @ 8% commission. Roughly $4k a month. No benefits. Just cash. I invest a lot of my own money into my business for things like samples, marketing, etc. to provide for my clients. I also travel from SoCal to NorCal as most of my business is in that territory.

I've been searching for other job opportunities because my current job has been giving me too much stress. Perhaps I just get bored of jobs too quickly or something. But my biggest factor for wanting to leave is that I'm done having to travel biweekly 100s of miles away from home to do business for days at a time. I wanna stay in SoCal. Although, it's decent money, I feel like I have opportunities to grow more else where without burning a hole in my wallet.

This position, in the same industry, is for an Account Manager position. It's selling hardware. Think electric bongs lol. It's a legitimate job with health insurance and all that good stuff. They're offering a base salary of $58k + bonuses. The potential is about $73k salary. Plus, even more bonuses for holidays and such. If I'm correct, including taxes to that salary, I would make about $4k a month here as well.

The most attractive thing about this position was the fact that there is a base salary. Guaranteed monthly pay.

My current job is not like that. Fully commission based. I'll be honest, I struggled last month due to sales being low after April. May was terrible. I made $25k @ 8%. Roughly $2k last month. I wanted to cry paying my bills on the first today lol.

I know sales comes in cycles, some months better than others, but for some reason I just feel the company I'm at is not worth it anymore. Plus, how over saturated the market is, plus the majority of market share we have with businesses in California, I feel limited with my prospects. No small fry business can afford our minimum. No way for me to help them grow unless it's out of my own pocket. Which is limited. I'm prioritizing my bills and financial security to survive.

I'm worried about the transitioning process if I do accept this new position. I'm wondering if it will be the right choice for my career but also financially. What are your guy's thoughts?

What are some more questions I can ask them on my second interview Tuesday that might provide me with comfort that I'm making the right choice in my life?

    Thank you friends!

    Am I doing it right?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 03:18 PM PDT

    Please send encouragement.

Hey guys, I work for a software startup and we're bringing up a brand new product from the ground up.

I was hired on as an account executive and have been diving in for the past 2 months. Essentially my 1st responsibility is being a BDR, making 300 call a week, emails, LI connections and messages and setting 5 demos a week. I also do have to conduct these demos with our product manager, and over see the sales cycle.

I am struggling with my outreach, getting people interested and setting demos. I understand I'm only 2 months in, is this normal? Or should I be closing deals left and right. That's what it seems like with my managers think I should be doing. My first cadence was shit, not targeting the right companies. I have just gotten a hang of my pitch, and my messaging. I feel optimistic-ish, but I could really use some advice on how to succeed in the BDR part of my job.

I believe in using the phone + cold calls but cannot figure out voicemail

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 10:52 AM PDT

I was a BDR for 2 years at a start-up in the construction industry and really started doing calls about 5/6 months into that role. I self-taught myself through pods/books/youtube/blogs and learned to love the art of it. Fast forward today and I've been an AE for 9 months now, struggled my first quarter (Q4 of first COVID year), and have attained 85% of quota the last two quarters, primarily (around 90-95%) on outbound efforts - ran around 36-37 meetings of 42 by outbound.

What I haven't been able to figure out, is getting even a remotely decent call back rate. I want to say I get 1 call back in 100 voicemails left, and not all those call backs are good -- they can be just the 'hey, i got a call from you, who is this type call backs.

What are you saying when leaving voicemails/what's your goal or strategy?

What Features Do You Wish Sales Navigator Had?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 03:43 PM PDT

    Hey r/sales,

I use sales nav to generate most of my lead lists (along with tools like hunter.io, manually writing first lines, etc.)

I am thinking of writing a little software for myself that does things like turning my saved leads into excel sheets, and a few other things (automated connection requests).

If you had software that could make LN sales Nav do whatever you wanted, what would it do?

A Big Downfall of Being Really Good at Following-Up......

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 07:21 AM PDT

You get OFFICIALLY rejected more than you would otherwise.

It doesn't sting as bad when you're 50/50 or less on whether or not you'll get the order.

But the WORST is when you THINK you've got a good relationship with the customer and the order is a near sure-thing in your mind.....you follow-up multiple times with no answer. Are you worried? Nope.

Until he finally responds with: "We went with another vendor for this one."

Makes you want to go "WTF?" in the guy's face.

Also makes me want to go back to "Screw following up. Let them reject me the easy way; with no order."

I'm half-kidding with this, of course. We are all Heroes or Zeroes at any given moment in Sales. I just wanted to vent.

What should I do : Focus on Digital Media Marketing (USA) or building my current business ?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 04:01 PM PDT

I have a business where I sell paintings via auction houses & eBay and making about 1000 -2000 $ per month.

But since 2 years I started my little digital agency for restaurants. Which made me about 500 $ per month for 2 years and then my client went off ..

I spend soo much energy learning sales skills, door to door etc. Watched hours of courses.

Right now in 2021: I have 2 Realtor Clients whom I could not deliver the results because they didn't last longer then 1 month.

And most of the time is going to strategy calls or sending cold outreach following up,

I also had some strategy calls with galleries because I am trying to try this niche out, but duo to lack of results and case studies, I couldn't close yet. But I am currently workin on it.

My question to you : What should I do ? Should I only focus on one business, as it should be ? Because the art business is not taking much time.

But the art business needs capital and I invested soo much time in figuring out which cold emails are getting attention in English that's why I want to get English clients as well and german ones too since I live in Austria but it makes my life much harder that way.

What would you do if you look back at your life ? What I am missing ? Or what can I improve ?📷

I feel like my boss doesn’t trust me or believe in me. Why?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 01:22 PM PDT

So I work for an RV dealership and I make pretty good money selling campers but the other day I made the mistake of not telling the customers about having to put 20% down and she got mad at me for that. She got mad at me just now because I'm showing customers used units online that we can't get our hands on because they're used and we're unable to trade used inventory to other dealerships.

She says that I'm walking business out of the door and if I keep it up, she'll be walking me out of the door. Shes just trying to give me advice but it's just making me think that she doesn't believe in me or she doesn't want me working for her anymore. She says that I get along great with my customers but I make tiny mistakes that end up hurting the deals and she's right. I came in 2nd place out of 10 sales associates for selling units last month. The girl that came in first sold 12 units and I sold 6. She compared me to her saying that I started a week before her and she doubled my numbers for June and that I need to do what she does. The thing is, she's not talking to the other associates like this. It's like the entire management team is just beating me up and she (the GM) is threatening to get rid of me and I'm so scared of losing my job. I honestly have no idea what I'll do if I lose my job.

    Finding actual good sales job?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 11:24 AM PDT

I've been working in sales now since 2016 (3 sales gigs total) but have yet to find what I believe is a real saas sales job. My job before my current I was telemarketing to mom and pop repair shops selling repair software that was a real transactional sales job and now i'm currently upselling our core CRM and Accounting customers addon products (selling to car dealerships). As of right now the goal I have to hit is unreachable with my territory and my boss has not done anything to help me get more. I can go further in depth on this if anybody cares.

My thing is I want to stay in sales but I want to go to a job with real training and teaching so I can be the best sales professional possible. What are some good sales companies to work for and how can I weed the bad ones out? I feel like most sales jobs lie when you ask things like what is the churn rate and how many of their current reps are hitting the target goal. I'm just tired and want to make a real career out of sales. Can anybody give me guidelines on how to find a real SAAS Sales Job?
