Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:03 PM PDT I'm a 35 year old male with two kids aged 15 and 12. I'm in Accounts Receivable going on 3 years of experience. Each time I study accounting, I get depressed at the potential of me getting my CPA. It is very comprehensive, with a wide range of topics to cover. I'm just beginning to understand the basics, even though I've struggled in this career for years. That aside, I don't know how I'm going to pay alimony and fund my child's college education. My oldest one is going to college in 3 years, and I'm afraid I won't be financially prepared because my job doesn't pay well. I don't understand how accountants can just get it. It's so hard for me to imagine how a transaction flows from the very beginning to its place on the financial statement. I learn by seeing and doing, not by rote memorization, or by memorizing acronyms, or by just doing a few examples. I need to see it in action, see it play out. I'm down, depressed, tired and tomorrow is July 4th. My kids are in my wife's custody. I feel hopeless like there's no reason for me to live. If it weren't for my kids, I think I'd call it a day and take myself out. But I have to keep going for them, so I don't know which direction to go. I like Trades, but don't know if they'll hire an old guy my age to lift heavy stuff. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:28 PM PDT Absolutely awful. I work for a very small remote accounting firm, and in May I got talked to because I billed too many hours to the clients. Now I'm being told I didn't bill enough hours to the clients in June. Am I perfect? No, I take my sweet-ass time and dont stress, in return I produce good results. Fucking madness. Billable hours leads to nightmare micromanagement and I'm about ready to quit and go back to entering invoices. At least that way I dont have people breathing down my neck on how I spend my goddamn minutes. Business owners don't often see the value of real management. Accountants aren't automatically good managers! Workloads need to be applied evenly, I shouldn't have to go through 3 different people to have my questions for the client answered, onboarding new clients shouldn't feel like pulling teeth, and I dont give a fuck about the monthly fees Quickbooks Online charges. This shit frustrates me, and it there's no happy medium between padding the customer's invoices with pointless hours or explaining why post-tax season has less activity. Because they should know. So many shoulds in this paragraph. Rant over. Have a good holiday weekend, assets equals liabilities plus equity or whatever I dont give a fuck. [link] [comments]

How would you compare a senior audit position at KPMG, Protiviti and RSM? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:47 PM PDT Got an opportunity for all 3 in a MCOL city. How would you compare long term opportunities with these 3? [link] [comments]
I got arrested for Public Intoxication, will I be able to become a CPA? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:01 PM PDT I just graduated college and I'm currently studying towards becoming a CPA. I only have a general job, and have had no firm experience. A couple days ago, after I went to a restaurant with a friend and had about 3 of their alcoholic drinks, I was arrested outside the public bathroom for public intoxication. I don't ever drink, so this has been a very surreal experience. I'm not sure if I should hire a lawyer for the court date, or what I should do. And I'm concerned I will not be able to become a CPA or even get a job after this due to the fact that it's a misdemeanor in CA. Any advice? [link] [comments]
Question about Trump Organization Tax Fraud Posted: 03 Jul 2021 02:05 PM PDT So essentially the Trump org didn't book for tax purposes the fringe benefits they were paying to their CFO which resulted in them withholding less incomes taxes and paying less payroll taxes. But by not deducting the fringe benefits wouldn't that result in higher taxable income? My question is did the Trump Organization benefit financially from this tax scheme? I definitely understand how their CFO benefitted since he underreported income. Thanks, [link] [comments]

Question: What does 20% collections over 31 plus days mean? No Accounting background! Posted: 04 Jul 2021 02:08 AM PDT Hi. I'm working on writing something and need help understanding what this line means. I hope I'm asking in the right place. Any help or advice deeply appreciated! [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2021 04:51 PM PDT So I'm decided last year I wanted to change my life and get out of working pointless retail jobs. I'm currently in the process of getting my Masters but still have no clue if I want to go into public accounting, auditing, etc. For reference, I just started taking classes again in January so I have a while to figure this out but I'm curious as to why yall chose to go the direction you did and if you hate it or not. I see so many posts about people hating their jobs that it's kind of worrisome. What advice would you give someone just starting out? [link] [comments]
Posted: 04 Jul 2021 12:50 AM PDT I'm starting as a tax staff at a local-midsize this month, and everyone at my current firm (intern) is asking why I didn't pursue audit. I've been at this subreddit and many people who pursue audit goes to private industry or government well but tax people seems to be in public accounting forever. I was thinking about pursuing Masters in Taxation, but I'm worried that I chose a wrong field. I enjoyed tax more than audit (from education), but Audit seems to have better future. I'm wondering if I should ask to be transferred into audit.. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Jul 2021 01:30 PM PDT So, I am a 4th year accounting major at a university who plans on enrolling in the CPA PEP after I finish my degree. I recently received feedback from my midterm in my Consolidations class, and I received only a 68%. I am still sitting at 83 in the course, but getting feedback like this makes me worry that I will not survive the PEP. I always receive good grades in the 85-89 range but getting results like this ruins my confidence. The most frustrating part of that midterm was that I understood the content. It mainly dealt with significant influence transactions, as well as transactions involving a parent and subsidiary. Do any of you people understand that feeling where one bad grade ruins your confidence in your abilities? EDIT: If this comes off as me whining, that wasn't my intent. I'm just wondering how others cope with bad news. [link] [comments]
How did you guys stay motivated after failing the cpa exam and rejected from job application? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:17 AM PDT After failing FAR, AUD and REG. I'm feeling hopeless. BEC (waiting for the score) I'm still doubting whether I pass or not. I'm currently unemployed right now. I applied many jobs before. My job application is either ignored or send me a rejection letter. How did you guys stay motivated? [link] [comments]

Best laptop for studying for CPA? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:34 PM PDT I just bought the Becker CPA review and my laptop is dated, and super slow. Would a chromebook work for this or should I just bite the bullet and go for a full laptop? Normally I'd just borrow my husband's, but he travels a lot so that's less accessible. I'm not a huge computer person outside of work so I'm not too concerned about getting the latest and greatest. [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:04 PM PDT I posted in /CPA about my REG exam today, and I'm pretty pissed (shitty) that I couldn't finish the testlets because I had to run like hell to find the bathroom. "No accounting for taste" and "it's accrual life" come to mind. Anyone want to chime in and lighten me up with a pun? [link] [comments]
Prior job experience, what types have more merit? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:36 PM PDT Currently I'm making to the transition from one degree to accounting right now and I've heard from the program advisor that since I would be doing it hybrid , I should get more experience ASAP so I can get hired out of the door. Currently I only have some healthcare experience, mainly as a pharmacy tech , bounced around in a few automotive fields and now do security, which im no stranger to long hours. I'm wondering should I stay in my current job or start looking for some entry level accounting jobs, like idk night auditor or tax preparer? Ive been turned down for most internships due to not having met all the criteria.. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:38 PM PDT Hey guys. I'm 28, reside in St. Louis, and for the last couple years have worked as a Sr. Accountant at a wealth management firm. Was laid off recently due to COVID. I have an offer for Accounting Analyst at a large, prestigious law firm, helping the Director of Billing in performing budget/variance analysis. (It's hard to even get a foot in the door at this law firm.) I also have an offer for a Sr. General Accountant at a small, family-owned reinsurance company. Similar pay at both. I heard advancement at law firms is practically non-existent? Also, the title makes me feel like I would be starting all over in my career. However, a large firm would have more financial depts. I could explore than what reinsurance offers. Anyone have any helpful experience or advice? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
