Former employee is now frequently returning to the job, stealing things, and then leaving. Police won’t do anything.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:08 AM PDT

So a couple of months ago, I had to fire an employee after he got caught stealing from our job. We could have pressed charges then, but didn't. Honestly, I felt more sorry for him than anything, because he's poor and probably desperate to earn money to support his family.

That sympathy was quickly eroded once I found out that he has been making frequent stops where he would come into our front lobby area and steal things that he could resale. Mostly packages that get delivered to us. Because of the nature of our business, we get sent dozens of packages a day. And our delivery people, despite being asked not to, just drop our packages in the front lobby area where anyone can just walk in and take them. I thought about getting a mag lock/keypad put on our door, but they cost thousands of dollars and we just can't afford them right now.

I tried filing a police report, but the police are basically useless in this situation. Multiple witnesses have seen him steal boxes, but that's not enough to make a case. We ordered some security cameras so we could catch him in the act, but it looks like….wait for it…he stole those, too! This has been going on for weeks. It seems like there would be an easy solution to this problem, but I honestly don't know what to do.

    EDIT:

I should elaborate on why the police haven't done anything. Because the property that this guy is trespassing on is a business, we need specific paperwork stating that he is not allowed to come here (forgot what it's called). The only way to get that is to have an officer present while I tell this person he's not allowed to be here anymore. Obviously, this guy is going to be long gone by the time the police arrive. In order to arrest him for burglary, they need evidence i.e. video footage of him stealing. As of right now we don't have cameras. So basically, they can't do anything at the moment.

I live in Tennessee in case anyone's wondering.

Need advices for online business ~_^

    Posted: 04 Jul 2021 01:57 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I have a few questions for you.

I am a professional welder, passionate about computers, graphics and drawing.

I know how to code (html, css, js, vue.js, python & haskell) and do graphic design with photoshop, illustrator etc..

I have developed a small website (here is the address), made all the graphic charter (colours, logo, content elements) I have literally designed everything from A to Z

With time I also made a Youtube channel that I'm struggling to take off and recently I finished the template of my instagram account ( picture here ).

The file is 3000 pixels wide by 10000 pixels high, all cut into squares of 1000 pixels by 1000. I had the idea to invest some money to advertise on instagram (some boxes like the one on the right of the Python part are planned to become sponsored content)

My goal is to provide content in my field (metallurgy) and in programming (Python & Haskell) and eventually to provide more technical content for a fee.

I'd love some advice on how to develop this, what to focus on and how to grow my audience.

Thanks for your time friends! :D

Is this a scam? Selling drugs?

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:40 PM PDT

TL;DR: Trying to figure out if this LLC is legit, selling drugs, or something that'll harm my family member.

A family member saying she landed a work-from-home position with a company called Pack Miner Logistics LLC. She will inspect international packages sent to her, confirm the contents are correct, re-label, and take them to UPS.

So far, so good. But it starts to get sketchy...

    • $2800/mo for 10-15 packages/wk and $45 extra per package delivered correctly–so $4400 if everything is kosher.
    • There's an LLC record, but no online presence.
    • The LLC was created 2 months ago.
    • They communicate with her via emails at an invalid URL. ([name@packmineremail.com](mailto:name@packmineremail.com))

I tend to be cautious when business opportunities are "too good to be true," especially for someone with very minimal retail experience and who hasn't had the time to build a marketable skillset.

The pay sounds so high–what's the markup on these items? She says they will primarily be retail items that can't be purchased within the States so they're essentially imported. And she doesn't have to pay into it.

    What do you think?

    Self employed people of Reddit

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:15 PM PDT

What made you take that leap of faith from punching a time clock to being the boss of your own success?

I have a decent job with great health benefits (figure around $1,050/week after taxes). I further my income with a rental house (another $150/week of profit). I have a hair over 40 grand in cash. With the current housing market, I could sell my rental and have about $100,000 in startup for a new business plus my current savings account to fall back on.

Out of high school, I excavated and truthfully, after 12 years into my current career path, I've realized excavating is what I really want to do. I know that most small companies around here can make anywhere from $80,000-$120,000 of profit during the work season.

The thing that has kept me at my job is the security of it and the benefits but I feel like I'd be very successful out there on my own due to my work ethic and motivation.

Is it normal to be so hung up on the negatives of taking this leap? Am I stupid for wanting to chase my dreams? I come from a family of self employed construction people so I understand the pros & cons but I am nervous to pursue this.

    School “interview” assignment for business.

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 01:09 PM PDT

For my Business 100 class we have an interview style assignment due Tuesday. My professor has given me a list of questions in which I have to find someone I'm not related to, with a career in business to answer these questions. I have to write a two page paper summarizing these questions and answers. If anyone has spare time and is interested in helping me, you can PM me or comment here. It would be greatly appreciated! What type of formal training have you had? What fields have you worked in over the years? What other training or experiences have you had that were helpful to you? What other occupations did you consider before deciding on this one? Will you describe briefly an average day's activities? What do you like best about your present position? What do you dislike most about your present position? What are the main problems or frustrations you encounter in your work? What advice do you have for someone considering your field today? Are there related fields I should explore? What subjects do you recommend someone taking in school that would help in your job? How does this job support your way of living in terms of income, knowledge, working hours, and leisure time? Why is this job important to you? Do you know of any common characteristics a person should possess to be successful in your field of work?

Seeking platforms/websites to sell and advertise the selling of a restaurant

    Posted: 03 Jul 2021 09:31 AM PDT

Hello, I have a restaurant that I'm looking to sell. I am looking for particular platforms or websites that are exclusively for selling businesses or investment opportunities in specific regions, where I could post my ad. As the main clientele of the restaurant are English, Germans and Russians I would like to know if there are any websites of the sort to advertise the selling of the business in those specific communities?
