Posted: 07 Jun 2021 07:20 AM PDT I'm just about at the one year mark in my first real AE job. While I struggled to build pipeline at first, I'm now hitting my stride and should finish Q2 at minimum 130%. All was going well until our new VP of sales just announced his intiatives. He comes from the logistics world and his LinkedIn touts his experience with call centers. When I interviewed I was told we are required 50 cold calls a week but if you hit your outbound demo quota through other means, that's flexible. Coming from a BDR job where it was 50/day that sounded great. Fast forward til now and new VP wants us held to an average of minimum 60/day. I'm feeling very bait and switched and a little bitter right now. Also I truly don't think that model works for this industry, there's just not enough time in the day to manage everything else like prospecting, demos, proposals, follow up calls for our average 90 day sales cycle and more. It doesn't seem realistic but I also feel like I'd hate my life. I did the 50/day thing and was tired of it, 60 while having even more duties will make me miserable. Do you think it would look too bad to recruiters and hiring managers to already be looking to leave now? I don't want to settle for another not great job but worry good orgs wouldn't want someone with my short tenure here. [link] [comments] |
Sales Engineers working from home? Posted: 07 Jun 2021 04:11 AM PDT I'm SE for some of the capital machines in India. I get paid around $480 per month. And it's been 2 months joining this company. Since it's lockdown now, Management has asked to do cold calling. Its been 2 months, I'm feeling sick of looking into excel sheets and calling unqualified leads. Even week there are NEW tasks being added up by the management. How do I deal with this? Is it normal in other companies? I have lost motivation to work now. [link] [comments] |
Is Sales right for me? Hoping to get any and all help I can! Posted: 07 Jun 2021 09:05 AM PDT TL;DR- is sales right for me? I am looking for professional advice to make sure I choose my field correctly. Sorry for the book below Hey everyone! I have been somewhat of a silent follower for a bit but have really been interested in finding out more and potentially making the jump into sales. I am currently in a great situation- I work in my company's corporate security group after coming from engineering (actually as an engagement owner and technical subject expert/dev of an SaaS product). For background, I have no degree but do have a certificate in security engineering from the university of Kansas and am severely worried about limitations in terms of what my potential options would be in sales without a true bachelors. I am also worried that by staying at my job and getting a degree, I won't be able to justify starting over as I have a fairly good trajectory now and would make more than what I would be comfortable forfeiting as I am married and have a young daughter. That said though, I would likely top out as a program manager with about 125-130 per year and not be able to rise outside of landing a director job (likely 10-12 years of exp). Right now, I am currently 22 and am on track to break 83 this year but am not sure if this is truly my calling. As an important note, my objective is to get into SaaS sales but I am of course open to any and all opportunities that might be better suited for me- I have a phenomenal understanding of everything technical as my current job is understanding general system architecture and its security compliance. The complex parts of a solution I would sell are not what I would think is tough, the tough pieces for me all have to do with understanding sales, how do I close sales, or really understanding what I can do to become the best salesperson I can. I am a very outgoing person, I have been told that I am quite friendly, and I am a very persistent individual- almost to the point of annoyance- a good and bad trait ;) For anyone that either has experience making it without your bachelors, coming from a technical background, or switching from a totally different work landscape, what did you find was the biggest help for getting your feet planted and becoming successful at what you do? If you had a couple of things that you would recommend, what would they be? Or alternatively, what would you have as either a positive or negative reason, based on info I provided, for why I should or should not try to make the jump? Ultimately I want to make sure I am doing my due diligence to understand if it is worth it for me to switch, what my trajectory would look like, important steps I need to take in order to be successful, things I should re-consider, so I can generally make sure I am informed before making any sudden changes that could completely change my career path. If anyone is willing to speak as a reply to this subreddit or find a way to connect with me 1:1, I just want to learn as much as possible and find out if this is really the right path for me. Thank you everyone! [link] [comments] |
Best practice when hiring sales people in the USA and Australia? Posted: 07 Jun 2021 05:11 AM PDT Hi Folks. We are a UK based SAAS company looking to expand our sales team into the USA and Aus. These are already successful hunting grounds for us, but currently all managed by our UK sales team. We want boots on the ground in these territories but have little experience when hiring outside the UK. Does anyone know of any good forums or information guides that would help me out looking at employment laws, office space vs remote working, tax guides etc etc Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:46 PM PDT Hi! Here's my question. I am very green at sales so bear with me. I reached out to a bunch of individuals on a sport I am super passionate via LinkedIn. I have 2-4 opportunities that they could take advantage of to make their players better but I don't want to turn them off. They are all writing back that they want to learn more. Do I go full on sales mode and sell them or do I just ask for the connection, build up their trust through my posts/comments and then reach out to them when I have a specific opportunity. My sport is pretty niche so I don't want to come off as fake. What do you think? [link] [comments] |
New role as SDR Manager, any tips? Posted: 07 Jun 2021 03:50 AM PDT Hey, good people of /r/sales! After working as a BDR and crushing my targets for 18 months i landed a gig as SDR Manager (on track to be Head of SalesDev) in a new company. I know what I'll be changing the new org, making new segments, new way of outreach, and just making a whole new department. Any tips on recruiting, managing people, and some do's and dont's? Everything is appreciated. Really want to excel in this role too. [link] [comments] |
What are your essential travel items Posted: 07 Jun 2021 12:23 PM PDT Road warriors, I am starting a new role today that has more travel than I am used to. With the world opening back up I am going to be on the road quite a bit. I am curious to learn from the veterans on what they consider to be the best travel essentials. Since this is Reddit I want clarify: I know to bring chargers, business cards (although surprising how often people forget them), and clothes, haha [link] [comments] |
What % of reps hitting 100% of quota is considered average? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:15 PM PDT When I joined my company a few months ago I had concerns about what % of reps hit quota. My director sent me the final numbers and it showed that 5/16 reps hit over 100%. I thought that was criminal and he was like "I hope this eases your concerns, numerous reps were able to hit quota." How should I feel about this? I always thought having about 65-70% of reps hitting 100% of quota was about average at a Saas company. Is that far too generous of an estimate? [link] [comments] |
Tips on dealing with AV Furniture Dealers? Posted: 07 Jun 2021 07:29 AM PDT Hello /r/sales. I am a newer hire at an AV Furniture manufacturer with a territory in the NW of the US. Selling to the end user directly is apparently a big no no since this would piss the dealers off so my question is how in a very mature industry do you build fresh relationships with Furniture Dealers and AV Integration Firms so that they decide to come to you for a quote? Aka, how the hell do I do my job? I would not be asking Reddit if I had the training / guidance I needed from my employer and to make matters worse, I'm new to the sales world. Thanks! Is my Sales Internship Offer a Scam? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 11:15 PM PDT So I applied for this SaaS startup company and they are offering a commissions-only salary -- for every sale I make, I get paid a $1000 flat fee. The revenues of this company appear to be $5 million, and they seem to have a solid product. Due to the commissions-only requirement, I can't shake the fact that this might be a scam. I'm 19(F) and this is the summer after my freshman year of college. Should I take the job? I've never worked sales before, and I'd like some advice on whether I should take it/tips to do well working a commissions-only job. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:28 PM PDT Hey everybody. I've been sending my resume out for the past 2 weeks trying to land my first real sales job remotely. I haven't heard back from any companies so far I have applied on indeed and then followed up through the company websites. Any advice on current companies hiring or anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jun 2021 07:36 PM PDT Hi all! I am a 26 year old female who has been working as a lab associate for a biotech company for about 2 years now. For some time now, I've been interested in getting into medical sales but have no idea where to start/nor have any sales experience. The other issue I have is that I am an international student on OPT which allows me to only work in my field of study (biology); hence I can't really get a sales job until I get my change of status (which I am working on). I should be getting my change of status in the upcoming months and I am just wondering what I can do to better my chances of getting into the industry with no sales experience. Any courses or extra work I could do meanwhile to better my chances. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
How many months ramp as a BDR is most common in SaaS? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:48 PM PDT Just curious. In my startup, for BDRs (and AEs), the ramp time is one month. We get Base and OTE for the first four weeks and then after, we're expected to meet full quota which, for BDRs, is 10 OPS. Is this unusual? We are series A and a little over a year old. Reporting/analytics/tech in sales Posted: 06 Jun 2021 02:37 PM PDT So I want to make sure I'm not getting left behind as tech and data become more central to all levels of sales. What courses/certifications/tech knowledge would you say are useful going forward? For the most part the only experience I have with this is using the reports and dashboards that already existed in my current company's salesforce, and running some basic pivot tables in excel. Was thinking of doing maybe an intro to sql course, spending a bit more time on the salesforce trailheads to better understand the reporting and analytics capabilities in lightning, and maybe even tableau certification. My company is about to purchase Outreach, so will put a lot of effort into exploring that as much as I can. Any other ideas or thoughts on that? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Jun 2021 05:15 PM PDT Hello all, curious if anyone has any recommendations on comp you've negotiated based on quota. Is there any sort of standard you've gone off of? Further more is it reasonable that in a densely populated area you can cover more accounts given that they are closer to each other compared to a more rural area (cheaper cost of living) with more distance between accounts. I've heard you should expect anywhere from 10-20% total comp on your total sales per year. Would love some general insight across the industry on what people are negotiating. [link] [comments] |
Agency Recruitment to SaaS Sales? Posted: 06 Jun 2021 12:20 PM PDT Has anyone made the jump from agency recruitment to SaaS sales? Maybe to a relevant technology or large company you were close to like LinkedIn? I'm currently in an agency recruitment role and have been very successful placing sales and other GTM leadership at early stage tech companies. However, when I got into this and started finding out what AEs and leaders made, I always figured I'd look at making the jump after getting some experience. I think I'm now ready. For those that have made the transition - what was it like? How did effect your workload and your income? Any advice? [link] [comments] |
