Is it unethical to buy followers? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:56 PM PDT Do you think it's unethical to buy followers for Instagram? I think it is okay just to get started, we just have 30 followers (friends&family) and really no one wants to follow a 30 followers account, even though we're posting quality content everyday. It's no business where we can ask customers that easy to follow us. It's rather getting them via social media and redirect them to our website and schedule a call. And if not, where to buy them without getting scammed? How many do I need for the start? How many can I buy without looking fake? Are 300 ok for the start? [link] [comments] |
Outside funding and worries for new start-up Posted: 30 Jun 2021 12:59 AM PDT Started working on a travel start-up about 2 years ago and very close to a MVP at the moment. I relied on freelance programmers for the website, but apart from that, I've done everything myself and learned on the go. I have closely examined all the major and smaller competitors in my market, and some have raised millions in venture capital, but still the average quality of their services is immensely poor. It seems to me that some companies just make a very basic MVP, quickly raise money, but then this money is used primarily to market the current service, without improving the quality of the service itself. This might start sounding like I'm bragging, but it boggles my mind that I have built a vastly better service with 4000 dollars then some companies that have raised millions. This got me to a point that I firmly believe in my direction, which is quality and ease of use before anything else. If the service 'works' the way it is supposed to, people will come, regardless of how many millions are spent on advertising. I'm worried that if I take in angel investors over time, the only goal will become to make more money and and it will stifle innovation and risks, as well as my ability to steer the company in the direction that I want it to go in. So, I guess my question is threefold: is my idea of angel investors too naïve, is it feasible to continue doing this without outside capital and if I do get angels investors on board, how would I make sure my worries don't come true? IPO Lockup for former employee Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:58 PM PDT I previously worked for a startup that is now on the cusp of an IPO. I exercised all my vested shares on my way out, but I'm now being requested to sign a lockup agreement before the IPO. I don't see any reason I should want to sign this but if I don't, is there any recourse the company could take? I'm not seeing what leverage they have to force me into it since I own my shares already. This is my first time going through an IPO, so just wanted to get some advise from those of you who have. advice needed - quit now or keep working and work it out? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:05 PM PDT I need some advice whether to quit work now and create a startup or perhaps change career, or keep working (at my non startup job) and continue to work things out. The main pain points are that i simply don't enjoy or find my current career interesting for me, and have lost the passion and desire to attain the end goal in my profession, having learnt more what it entails now, it just doesn't appeal to me, all it means is that it would leave me with less time left in my life to pursue things that truly matter to me. Money doesn't seem to be a factor as it once did, and the intense demand it would take to move up - it is taking up so much time, both at work and back at home with work related study, just makes me feel i would be better able to spend that time and effort building on something that i truly find meaningful earlier rather than later. In fact, I dread the return to work more and more with each day and perhaps its a disservice and even unethical for me to keep working half-heartedly without intention to improve. I definitely feel like creating something is fundamentally so much more meaningful and impactful than trading time+skills for money for the rest of my life, I'm thinking hard about possible ideas but i have no contacts, no experience, and no technical skills (like coding). In addition to the drawbacks - I'm not very disciplined, so i'm prone to just doing nothing all day, but at the same time i have a very wide range of interests that I can really go deep and explore and understand that i jsut don't seem to have time for whilst workign at the same time. I do find my days off are so packed and interesting thinking and learning about problems abou the world and when i feel most passionate and energetic - i'd say my key passion is sustainability and environment restoration which is not really related to my field at all. Speaking more generally, I have all these novel and books i don't have time to read, i need to get fit and exercise but i dont have time for it - i think what i really needed was a gap year to travel and find my passion. On the flip side everyone in my circle has an expectation that i'm headed towrasd somewhere and theres an irrational fear that i would be seen as a failure and couldn't handle the career if i just jump out into the deep end without a clear idea, the pressure initally might be too much. I need to commit to something - whether to pull up the bootstraps and improve myself at my job (begrdugingly) or just bite the bullet and jump off into a new chapter though it may all be a case of grass-is-greener syndrome which i've heard before from people i've talked to. What are some other factors that would help me consider what to do? [link] [comments] |
How or where do I find suppliers in this niche? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:36 AM PDT I'm looking to start a B2B ecommerce business where I sell commercial kitchen equipment - freezers, coffee makers, induction cookers etc to those in the F&B industry basically restaurants, cafes, food trucks and hotels. My question is, where do I find quality suppliers who are open to the dropship model to begin with or an online distributor relationship? Does anyone have recommendations for suppliers who have warehouses in the US? [link] [comments] |
Visualizing the NFT Marketplace of the Future: An Interactive Experience Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:28 AM PDT I work at a startup where we build Interactive Virtual Tours for multiple industries. The art industry is one of our dearest markets, so we believe we could add some value to the NFT market as well. We came up with some ideas, compiled them, and we are slowly building towards our target. Read the article below to find out more! I would sincerely love to hear some feedback regarding this idea. What’s the thing with digital transformation companies? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 03:11 AM PDT Hi all, I've seen some company that specializes in digital transformation, it seems like they are basically getting a contract of updating/creating infrastructure or web services for a bunch of companies. But I'm really trying to understand how that works? Also, how does one get contracts with companies, especially the big one? I'd very much appreciate any input. [link] [comments] |
Are YouTube ads effective for a new website? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:43 PM PDT I ran a number of YouTube ads and I noticed that I was being charged for a high number of clicks and views but when I looked at my website I didn't see the same in terms of website visitors. I emailed the YouTube customer support and they told me that a view or click on a YouTube ads means that the person either clicked on the link or watched the entire video ad. So I decided to test this and I made an ad video that was 7 minutes long and I saw the same results. It seems strange to me that people would watch a 7 minute ad and not click on the website. Does YouTube have bots clicking on their ads? [link] [comments] |

How to create true brand advocates from superfans? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:00 AM PDT Hey Community ✌ I've been scouring the web to find out the best examples of marketing campaigns that involved superfans of a product or a service. At the top of the list are companies like Apple, Harley-Davidson, Nike etc etc. Do you have any examples of campaigns that worked really well with Superfans? I'm particularly interested in the ride-sharing economy. Thank you OG's. [link] [comments] |
How did you successfully enter a foreign market? What marketing strategy did you use? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:45 PM PDT Hey guys, I am a part of an East European Saas startup focusing on the translation service. We basically took the classic translation business model and pivot it into high tech one. We are automating the translation process with the combination of AI, ML, and experienced translators. Our target audiences are business that is selling or trying to expand internationally. We offer document and legal translation, marketing translation, localization, API integration, transcription, proofreading... [link] [comments] |
LLC in domain name? company.com vs companyllc.com (and there's company.llc :-) Posted: 29 Jun 2021 02:09 PM PDT So I'm starting an LLC for a mainly web-based business and bought both company.com and companyllc.com. I was figuring on just redirecting web companyllc.com to company.com and having any email to companyllc.com default forward to an account on company.com. (Or I could use company.llc as the main and have the other 2 forward to it...) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:08 PM PDT The initial terms are straight forward. Give me money, we give you a set % yield plus a bonus conversion into the next round of funding. What we dont have is a way to buyout investors that may become problematic. I'd like to add something to the language to deal with that event. There are concerns that those terms might make it appear that some investors are more favored than others.... What is typically done if you want to get rid of an early investor? [link] [comments] |
How do I start a social media platform? Posted: 30 Jun 2021 01:47 AM PDT Hi guys, I am working on a startup. I plan to extend it to a mass data center type company if it succeeds. I was just wondering if anyone knows anyway I can get my hands on a temporary server to sell the idea to investors and then hopefully extend it?! Does anyone know a server service (like VPS) that I can use in the mean time? [link] [comments] |
Hire IT staff or a service provider? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 02:16 PM PDT Almost every new business needs IT these days: Email, telephones, file storage, etc. Many startup owners begin handling IT themselves. Do you do IT yourself? Did you hire someone to do your IT? Or did you hire an IT service provider? How did you decide when and who to hire? [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on incubator and acceleration programs Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:07 PM PDT I'm currently in the works of a mobile app, and I wont be applying to anything until I have a finished product (I'm estimating 6-8 more months of dev hell) But my app idea needs a decent amount of startup capital to cover a lot of legal stuff that the app will deal with. I have some saved up capital myself but I don't really know what I'm doing and am super open to investors and incubator programs to sort of "steer me" in the right direction. But I was just wondering on general thoughts about programs, the accessibility to them, things i should be prepared for etc. Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:38 PM PDT What is the best way to acquire the supply side of a marketplace without spending money. Is it appropriate to cold call and cold SMS potential people you think the marketplace would benefit? If not what is an effective way to get the product out there to the people that we need to be listing their product/service? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:18 PM PDT I have an Ed tech startup that runs on ads right now. It's slowly growing as I'm increasing traffic by a couple percent a month maybe. I built my site because I saw an obvious lack in that area. I could add more functionality to my site. But I'd just be adding stuff that other sites do just fine. Or I could create a different edtech site or something completely different in a more lucrative area like fintech. Not sure what I should do next. I can keep grinding at what I have now or leave it where it is and move on to something new. [link] [comments] |
Selling software product for percent of revenue Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:39 PM PDT Hello, I am in search of examples or business terminology for software products that are sold or licensed in exchanged for a percent of the revenue generated from those products. Are such arrangements common? Do they have a name? Do others have experience with these arrangements? Are there any words of wisdom with respect to the revenue division? Any pointers others can offer would be greatly helpful. Edit for more details: In this case, I would be licensing software to a third party seller and we would be splitting the revenue generated from the product. I am curious to know if there is much literature on the appropriate royalty split between the selling agent and the software development agency (my firm) in cases like this. [link] [comments] |
How are the Chief of Staff for a startup viewed Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:25 AM PDT My background is heavily in operations and I'm trying to take that next high impact step. I found a position for Chief of Staff and it's very operational due to strategy , investor relations , and of course talent. However the COO position is filled and that's more my thing. Basically is this a good position for growth and respect to move forward ? I know it is of course, but I want to eventually be COO or CEO and not a "glorified assistant " which annoyingly what I've heard people say [link] [comments] |
When is an Angel no longer relevant? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:44 AM PDT For context, I am involved in a startup that has been around for several years, but made slow progress. It was a side hustle for a long time that has recently turned profitable. However, in order to scale, we are going to need capital beyond what the monthly profit will be able to provide. My question is - if going after funding, are we past the Angel stage, given we are profitable and think we have largely worked out our product/market fit? What about if the thing we want to scale is in the same industry, to the same customers, but a new way of solving the problem? If we go straight to VC, will we be given a look in if we don't have any prior investors? [link] [comments] |
