Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:59 AM PDT Currently finishing up my clinical doctorate in a healthcare field. I always thought I did okay limiting my loans both in undergrad and grad school. I still ended up with 20k I will pay from undergrad and 30k from grad school. Serious student debt is a known problem in my field so I was proud of myself for my 50k debt with an anticipated 60-70k starting salary. However, I recently began my final clinical placement and found out many others at my placements have no student debt. I had this instant jealousy knowing they can go months without a job after graduation because they don't have debt to repay. I also felt jealously that they don't have the burden and anxiety I feel whenever I think about my loans and my path to get to where I am. I know we shouldn't compare our situation to others, but it's so hard. How do others with debt and surrounded by those who's parents paid for their school cope with that feeling? I'm tired of always feeling like the poor grad student when I go out with my other grad student friends since I always look at menu prices and they order whatever they want. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:55 PM PDT I live in a household I would very much like to get out of (mentally abusive, very terrible for my mental health), but I can't afford rent even with a roommate where I'm going to school (a community college). I filled out the FAFSA, but since my family is very well off I obviously didn't get anything out of it. Is there any situation I could get a student loan without a cosigner? [link] [comments] |
Did U guys wish u would’ve worked in school instead of taking out loans?? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:23 PM PDT I go to community college and plan on working to save and pay for some of the tuition when I transfer to a 4 year. Curious as to if y'all worked or wish you would've worked even part time at like a bakery or something lol [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:35 PM PDT Can a loan servicer legally send your account to collections IF you are sending them some payment amount above $0 but below the monthly bill amount? Often I cant pay the full monthly amount they are asking for and so instead will pay whatever amount I can on each student loan (8 total). In my head I'm saying, "Well at least Im giving them something!" Im trying to redo my payment plan based on my income but its honestly been a pain in the *ss to do that. Any help is greatly appreciated!!! [link] [comments] |
Any advice on how to minimize the potential student loans??? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 11:02 PM PDT I heard crazy stories of people taking out student loans to cover livings expenses and what not. [link] [comments] |

FSA ID was locked, but I never tried to log in. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:08 PM PDT I received an email from student aid letting me know my FSA ID was locked. I logged in as normal, then reset my password to something else. Both passwords were fairly secure, but apparently your FSA ID is locked when a log-in attempt fails three times. Since I never tried to log in, I'm not really sure what to think of that. Obviously, the log-in attempt was unsuccessful, but it still worries me that someone was potentially trying to access my account. Has anyone else gotten these emails before, and are there any additional precautions I might want to take? I might just be overthinking things, but it was an unwelcome surprise haha. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 05:50 PM PDT I have a problem with my student loans. I owe them. I admit it but, my story involves me being taken advantage of, stolen from, beaten and dealing with my mother's slow passing away from cancer and tumors. I was in a really bad situation that I will not get into on here. All my loans that I took out was used for someone else. My roommates robbed from me, took advantage of me, I paid all the bills and I just let it go. I was told I could sue them but I never had enough money for a lawyer and they do not have anymore money. They had a win fall and never paid me back. I have no idea where they are, what they are doing and I really could not care less. This was 14 years ago. I know I owe the money but, I owe 30K in student loans, I never graduated and now I have to pay it back. Is there ANYTHING I can do to get them off my report so it does not affect me the rest of my life. I have not been able to pay them in 12 years. Now, I am looking at building my credit to buy a home and I can not get one until I pay these loans back. I am disabled and could apply for forgiveness but then I am not allowed to work. I could not also not go back to school. It seems as though there is nothing I can except pay it back. I am going to talk to a credit attorney but more than likely they will say all I can do is pay it. [link] [comments] |
Applying for Graduate Plus Loan to help finance a car. Posted: 29 Jun 2021 03:14 PM PDT Hey all. I'm currently a second-year medical student, and I was fortunate to get a full-ride scholarship. Long story short, my wife is the only one who works and makes enough for us to get by in this small town. However, we will be needing a second car this fall since she has to go to work while I must go to campus. Unfortunately, my wife does not make enough to finance a car, and we don't have all that much in our savings that would allow us to buy a used car. Therefore, we are currently in the process of applying for a Graduate Plus Loan (we'll probably complete it tomorrow), and, if approved, plan on using it to finance a car. This would be a car that would most likely stay with us for the next decade or two. Is this frowned upon? Is this a good idea? Is it common for graduate students to do this? [link] [comments] |
Private FFEL to Direct Federal Student Loan? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:17 AM PDT I have two consolidated FFEL loans owned by Navient totally 110 K. My interest rate is 3.5%, I have excellent credit (813). Is it possible for me to convert my loans from private to federal loans? What are the advantages/disadvantages? I went back to school later in life and truthfully I have been an idiot with my finances in the past. I have been slowly paying off all my higher interest rate debt, but my student loans are like a giant black cloud over my future, especially as I get closer to retirement. I want to make sure I am doing everything I can do while continuing to pay down as much as I can. [link] [comments] |
Paying off loans Unsubsidized vs Subsidized Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:59 AM PDT I am currently in school and will be graduating in May 2022. I want to start paying on my loans while still in school and during the grace period after I graduate. My question is: Is it always preferable to pay off unsubsidized loans before subsidized loans? I will have these subsidized loans: $5600 at 4.66% $2800 at 4.29% $5500 at 3.734% $5090 at 2.75% And these unsubsidized loans: $2100 at 3.734% $3045 at 2.75% I'm hoping to pay off all of the unsubsidized loans before the post-grad grace period is over. I assume that's the best strategy even though the interest is higher on some of my subsidized loans? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:06 AM PDT Hey ! I have applied for a prodigy loan back in April and passed the verification period since. Does anyone know how long it takes to be matched with a loan? Are there people who have not been matched because of lack of fundings? Also, if you have experience in this, did you receive your loan on time? Please share your experience with this! Thank you!! Help with a private student loan Posted: 29 Jun 2021 01:44 PM PDT Hello! my spouse is trying to get a loan from Sallie Mae for $4800, but has been denied. (Her credit score is 750, but only has a year of credit history). They will not accept me as a cosigner, because I'm in the process of rebuilding my credit (~620). We do not have anybody else that would cosign the loan for us. Does anyone have a recommendation of a company or bank that would give us the loan? It seems like a private loan is the only way to go here. My other option is to take a loan from my 401k. The interest rate would be around 4.5% and I would try to pay that off as quickly as possible as I would be losing out on potential gains. Not really sure where to go from here, or why Sallie Mae will not give us the loan. Can anyone recommend some other options? [link] [comments] |
Question: What to look for in graduate student loans? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:06 AM PDT Hi ill be headed off to graduate school and looking at different private loan options has been an exhausting and overwhelming process. That being said, does anyone here have any recommendations as to what I should look for in a graduate student loan vs say an undergraduate or federal loan? Thank you all in advance. Advice on choosing a repayment plan Posted: 29 Jun 2021 07:50 AM PDT In October I will start paying my student loans of around 40k. I am by no means a beginner when it comes to personal finance, but wanted your all's thoughts. I'm sure there are nuances I am simply unaware of. I am debating between the 25 year extended, IBR, PAYE, REPAYE. The latter 3 appear to be the exact same payment. My reasoning for this is to be able to use my payments for efficiently. I will make the same payment as the standard 10 year plan but after paying interest on all loans put the difference towards the highest interest rate. I have done this numerous times on other loans, so discipline isn't an issue. I also paid interest only payments my entire time in school. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Will parent plus effect chances of receiving mortgage Posted: 29 Jun 2021 06:49 AM PDT Parent plus loans are the only option for my current situation, but the only problem is that my parents don't have a strong grasp of finances, so they are worried that they might not get a home loan if the loan service sees parent plus loans on their record. Our aunt bought this home for us outright at 100,000, and we have to get a loan within the next year because our aunt owns too many homes, so it will go under our name. I'm still planning to refinance as soon as I get out of school. So my question is this, will parent plus loans have any effect on a loan service's decision? [link] [comments] |
