I am feeling crushed by the shear size and scale i’ve brought my company to be Posted: 03 Jun 2021 04:36 PM PDT I run an agency. We've been in business for about 3 years now, but have really exploded in the past year We went from 2 employees to 15 and from 5 clients to 35 in the past year This sounds like amazing news, this is all i ever wanted but it's really taking a toll on me I'm the only sales executive, I'm the only person in my company that can close deals right now (i know this is an issue, im working on it). All the same, both revenue and expenses have 10x. If i screw up even the slightest, i will be crushed. I was sick as hell today, fever and everything, then it dawned on me that I am no longer allowed to be sick, so i did my 8 hours of sales calls, apologizing to clients between coughing fits. Exceptional input and output doesnt even feel exceptional anymore. What used to be exceptional is now the norm. What used to be the norm is now failure. What used to be failure is now...well probably bankruptcy. It feels like I've built the thing I've always wanted and now I'm standing under it being crushed as i hold it together. [link] [comments] |
Is it wrong of me to not bring my friend in as a founder? Posted: 03 Jun 2021 11:38 AM PDT Apologies if this is the wrong sub but I feel it speaks to the dynamics of starting something up with a friend. I have a friend that I started a business with last year. It ultimately hasn't worked out (covid) and he left to take a job. No harsh feelings of course. A couple of months ago I had an idea that I messaged him just to have a conversation and flesh it out. We do that with each other often. He didn't add anything I hadn't already thought of/researched. It was more me seeing if his response was positive. I said I'd get back to him with more details eventually and maybe a rough business plan. This was a month ago. He hasn't mentioned it since. Is it wrong of me to not bring him in despite us discussing it and him thinking of ideas re: the business also? He even said stuff like "we could do xyz" I just feel like maybe he's not the right fit, he does all the admin stuff which I don't like to do (but will do if need be) but I just feel perhaps he's maybe too pessimistic which doesn't fit well with my pessimistic nature and perhaps lacks the creativity and vision to do what I want to do. Sorry if this is dumb. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:00 AM PDT This is /r/startups emotional support thread. There will be no problem-solving here, no judgement, no networking, no advice. We're here to be heard, be understood, and be told that it'll be okay, that whatever happens, we care. Still, be tactful and classy in how you vent your feelings and share your frustrations. Act in a mature manner. This is meant to be a safe place to support emotional and physical health and there is a zero tolerance policy in effect. Be kind. Please report any conduct that is in violation of that key tenet. Howdy there. Did you have a rough week? It's certainly been a rough year. Did you get in an argument? Have a problem? Tell me about it. What's wrong?[link] [comments] |
What's your best advice for one who have a dream to start a start-up? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:20 AM PDT Now I can't just start it. They are lots of problems to me. I'm a 23year old student. How to approach an app development company ? Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:51 AM PDT I am with my brother launching a new startup and we need an app for that. But we have no clue how to approach an app development company to build an app for us. Are we supposed to give them proper design or should just tell them about our needs ? Also, how do we protect our idea ? what if we they give a quotation that is way above our budget that we cannot afford and now they have our idea ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2021 07:45 AM PDT I'm torn between the fact that I want as many users as possible for feedback but was also thinking about pay-walling off some of the site. I would still pretty freely give out codes for a while on various channels, but I kind of want to establish the value for the product from the get-go. The issues I'm thinking about are:
Let me know what you think about setting up the paywalls now vs waiting for when the product is a little more perfect. FYI it's a personal finance platform. I was thinking of gating the Monte-Carlo simulation features and portfolio tracker. They can run maybe a 5 - 10 "what-if" comparisons and simulations, but then it prompts for account creation and paywall. Currently, I'm trying to create personal finance content which will be my primary marketing channel which I'll put up on youtube along with referral codes allowing users to access the product free despite the paywall. Best example of online success !! Posted: 03 Jun 2021 11:59 PM PDT In 2012, the brand named Nykaa came into existence with the idea of selling beauty and cosmetics products of different brands via its e-commerce portals, and then in 2015, Nykaa launched its own set of collections which is very much appreciated by customers. In 2020 total revenue of $247M and the revenue growth in 2021 is expected to grow by 40%. This is the power of e-commerce and the internet. The case study of Nykaa is worth reading to know the power of social media and online presence. [link] [comments] |
Does applying to and participating in an Accelerator program look good on your resume? Posted: 03 Jun 2021 11:41 PM PDT I applied to 2 accelerator programs on behalf of the startup I worked for, and we got accepted as finalists for both. I'm attending these accelerators as one of the representatives for the company. Does that kind of thing look good on your resume to a future employer? How do you highlight that value? Thanks! Partially vested co-founder no longer interested in business, stopped doing work, seeking advice. Posted: 03 Jun 2021 04:54 PM PDT A bit of a tricky situation since we have tons of legal documents which are hard to understand. I don't quite understand the general rules in these situations. Situation:
Question:
We understand that this matter will not be solved without lawyers, however, I am trying to gather as much knowledge about this situation prior to taking any legal action. Thank you for the advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2021 03:06 PM PDT My app that will be available for both Android and iOS will use the following paid services:
With all of these services in use, how do I figure out how much the monthly fee for the premium subscription should be so my app is profitable? Right now I've decided to limit the freemium model to four API calls every 24 hours for every user, but if the user upgrades to premium then it's unlimited for them. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jun 2021 12:44 PM PDT Ok last time asking here hoping someone can point in right direction... has nobody here used social media advertising? We are creating an app and have a targeted consumer of low income people for insurance. We would like to advertise only on social media for the 1st year. Anybody have tips or advertising agencies recommendations ? Do you design the ads, who funnels the traffic/ key word? Any insight would be appreciated. We have a very specific target customer just need to work with Someone to turn our thoughts into reality [link] [comments] |
Anyone have a content curation/aggregation business model? Posted: 03 Jun 2021 09:57 AM PDT I'm structuring my content curation business. I've discussed it with a few peers in my industry and to a certain extent, they express hesitation. Am I monetizing other people's content? Should a business model be dependent on others content? Are these ethical questions irrelevant in 2021? Much of the internet is content curation/aggregation (facebook, twitter, instagram, youtube). I won't discuss the monetization strategy, as I'm also still deciding on the approach, but it seems like an important issue. For example, I won't place ads on curated content. Has anyone else worked with this type of business model and do you reflect on these issues? [link] [comments] |
