Should I get married one month early for the sake of our daughter's insurance?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 09:02 AM PDT

I will be getting married and adopting my fiance's 4 year old daughter next month.

Somehow, the insurance ran out on her daughter this month. We are going to all be on the same insurance. But, I can't add them to mine until we are legally married, which is next month. So, that would mean our daughter wouldn't be covered for one month.

Should I just go ahead and go to the courthouse to make it legal and have the ceremony next month? I'm a little confused on how the health insurance part works.

    Thank you so much.

State Farm, Michigan. Moving between apartments and accidentally cancelled renters insurance policy before lease ends

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 06:19 PM PDT

I moved to a new apartment one week ago and called State Farm to change the location of my renters insurance to that of the new apartment. I just received an email from my old apartment stating that my renters insurance is no longer in effect there and needs to be reinstated for the remainder of my lease (4 more days).

However, in the fax that State Farm sent to my old apartment, it states "TO MORTGAGEE: Your interest is protected for 15 days from the date processed, or until the date cancelled, whichever is the latest." I don't have a mortgage; is this referring to my old apartment, and saying that I am still covered for 15 days from the processed date?

I would like to avoid the extra charge for allowing a lapse in my renters insurance, although obviously it's my fault for not making sure I was covered during the move, and I'll pay it if I must.

Getting kicked off my parents health insurance at age 23?

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 05:46 PM PDT

My dad gets insurance through the government because he is self-employed. I am now 23 and he says I am getting kicked off his insurance plan because I am no longer a dependent living in his household. I filed as an independent on my taxes for the first time this past 2018 and he now tell me that my health insurance on his plan ended on August 31st, 2018. My health insurance is through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. Is this legal? I thought I was allowed to stay on their insurance until 26, no matter what. Help?

    Chiropractic Insurance

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 05:24 PM PDT

I see a chiropractor in NY who is a "board certified functional neurologist". I came to his office because I have post concussion syndrome. I have AETNA insurance and he is an in-network provider. I called insurance ahead of time and they told me I had a $30 copay for chiropractic. After I had my first consultation with him he told me it would be my copay plus an additional $65 (for $95/visit) for "the functional neurology services that aren't covered by insurance". Meaning my insurance covers the spinal manipulations but not the other neurology exercises he's doing with me. From my understanding, I believed an in-network provider was not allowed to charge a fee for service because they are contracted with them to accept their fees. When I got my EOB back I didn't see any neurology code for $65 out of pocket. My next visit I asked for an itemized bill and there was a code "97139" that was labeled as "Unlisted therapeutic procedure". I am just curious if this practice is legal or not? I understand that insurance doesn't cover holistic types of treatment but if he's billing as a chiropractor can he charge additional fees other than a copay?

I've noticed that insurance companies often try to avois work.

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 08:55 PM PDT

Everytime there was an accident on my policy, my agent would say open a claim with the other person's insurance (we we're never at fault) because they said that way I don't pay my deductable. My response is, or you can open the case and once it is settled I will have the car fixed (2 fender bender that were mostly cosmetic). And they kind of get quiet but agree to do so. Is this a common practice to try and pass the buck?

    Questions about at fault accident

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 10:58 AM PDT

I had a small accident where I ran into cross arm (similar to leaving a parking deck) . I busted my windshield and there is minor damage to the car. I have full coverage comp and collision with Alfa. My question is will I be able to get my windshield fixed and it count towards my deductible? I don't want to handle the claims process in a hurry in order to get my windshield fixed. Also, there was a dent in the bumper when I purchased the car. Is this going to affect the amount I may get for my current body damage? I am located in Alabama

Entry Level P&C Student Taking CSPA Exam; Need Advice

    Posted: 03 Sep 2018 10:29 AM PDT

Hey everyone, I'm not sure if this is the proper place to post this but I need some help with studying tactics.

For those that don't know, the CSPA (Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics) is a relatively new program offered by the CAS Institutes iCAS. As someone who originally had interest in actuarial science but was put off by the study time and a growing interest in programming, I felt this way would be the best way to advance my career in some field and still apply skills I like.

However the first exam is a fundamentals course, and it's 99% reading and 1% math. I completely understand why it is, but the amount of study time it's saying it suggests is ~150 hours, and so I've been studying with the iCAS materials (textbooks, course guide, review notes) and reading through each section, taking notes as I go along, and such. However this is taking a very long time and I feel like I'm either not retaining it or I'm retaining unimportant information.

One thought I had was just reading the units one at a time, only writing vocab notes on index cards (maybe examples too), taking all the online quizzes, then doing the fill-in-the-blank questions in the book, and then practice exams. I know there's no single perfect way to study, but for exams like this, I'm not exactly sure what I should study. (for context I'm about 1/2 through the course and while I'm registered to take it in Oct-Dec, I haven't selected a date yet... probably 3rd week Oct). So I just wanted some thoughts, maybe experience from others who have taken courses through The Institutes, methods that have helped, the works. I'd be grateful to get the insight from fellow test-takers. Thanks!
