I’m feeling crushed by the shear size and scale that my business has scaled to

I run an agency. We've been in business for about 3 years now, but have really exploded in the past year

We went from 2 employees to 15 and from 5 clients to 35 in the past year

This sounds like amazing news, this is all i ever wanted but it's really taking a toll on me

I'm the only sales executive, I'm the only person in my company that can close deals right now (i know this is an issue, im working on it).

All the same, both revenue and expenses have 10x. If i screw up even the slightest, i will be crushed.

I was sick as hell today, fever and everything, then it dawned on me that I am no longer allowed to be sick, so i did my 8 hours of sales calls, apologizing to clients between coughing fits.

Exceptional input and output doesnt even feel exceptional anymore. What used to be exceptional is now the norm. What used to be the norm is now failure. What used to be failure is now...well probably bankruptcy.

It feels like I've built the thing I've always wanted and now I'm standing under it being crushed as i hold it together.

How normal is it for tenants to be dodgy with rent?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 06:31 AM PDT

I have a tiny "real estate" (if thats what you would call it) business where I rent out rooms individually in two houses for mostly young professionals.

The thing is, almost 100% of the time, if I dont press them through texts to pay, they will "forget" the due date and miss the payment. Also, most times they will also "forget" to pay the utilities, so I have to front that and notify them of consequences like revoking their FOB that opens the residential gate only for them to pay it a week late.

Contract is over in october in the property with the worst tenants. Is it normal for tenants to be like this? I am considering notifying them that the contract will not be renewed, fortunately I can wait out several months while I find new ones.

One of the tenants seems like a shady lawyer who is 6'2 to boot who has expressed highly immature and scary reactions to things like warnings to stop having his friends park incorrectly or partially blocking others' driveways. I made the mistake of only requesting half a month as a safety deposit because he was recommended by a mutual friend. Also, his dog is constantly wrecking the garden when he goes on trips and leaves it abandoned in the yard, only to pay like $5 for a guy to feed it, I offered basic dog sitting for $20 a day and he said it was too expensive.

I have valuables in the house like art, expensive electronics, quality kitchen appliances and tools. Should I preentively protect myself by removing things from the house, or take pictures of inventory? (another mistake I did of not including in the contract). Is the lawyer capable of doing anything weird? (He once as a "joke" said that he could create a restraining order against me so that he could keep the house.)

Thanks in advance for any advice that you can spare. I hope I can move forward with this so I can focus on a new business I with to start.

How to copy a website? (with original owners blessing)

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 06:26 PM PDT

I'm starting a company with a licensing agreement with my previous boss. Part of that licensing agreement is the ability to copy the web design of the original website. My intention is to copy everything over and just change the small details (Company name, phone numbers, staff page, etc.). I spoke with the web design company that my boss uses, and they said it was doable but quoted me a high price ($3K).

Is this a task that any Computer Science wiz with access to the web design portal can figure out? Is $3K actually not an outrageous figure?

Who is on your board of directors?

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:58 AM PDT

I know the board of directors can vary depending on the business but what roles are in your board/business?

    For my startup I have:

    CEO, COO, CFO, CMO, CPO

However if need be the CEO (myself) and COO can be one person as well as the CMO and CPO.

But definitely not the CFO since I'm not very good with numbers in great detail at a certain point.

Don't get me wrong when we all start sometimes (maybe even most times) we as the owner take the role of EVERYTHING but I always wondered who people have in their team (board).

Up to $30,000 from Konstruktor will be awarded to the winner of its international startup competition. Large investments from the US company Konstruktor will go to the Lemonade project Kazakhstan. A relatively young girl has won the startup contest.

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:06 AM PDT

The first international award for "Best Startup of the Year" was given out by the American technology company Konstruktor on May 22nd in the city of Almaty, Kazakhstan.

The winner of the KonstruktorStart competition is the Lemonade project by Ekaterina and Tamara Strelnikova, which will receive up to $30,000 in investments from the American technology company Konstruktor.

The prize was presented by a special representative of the Konstruktor company, who arrived in Almaty from the United States to personally congratulate Ekaterina and Tamara on their well-deserved victory.

The American technology company "Konstruktor" was founded in 1999 by Vlad Krishtop. Konstruktor's mission is to support creative and artistic initiatives of people from all over the world and to create the best conditions to develop them. Konstruktor is also a unique global community, a creative environment, with more than 1 million members from 190 countries.

Konstruktor is part of a group of companies managed by the parent investment company Second Working District in California. Most recently, the primary interest of the company has been investments in the intellectual sphere as well as looking for innovative projects and assisting in their realization.

With this goal in mind, Konstruktor and the Second Working District announced a competition for the best startup project called KonstruktorStart. The placing of competing projects and the application submission for the competition all took place on the Konstruktor website. More than 1000 different projects from all over the world were submitted for the competition.

According to the KonstruktorStart jury, the selection process was difficult. However it was Ekaterina and Tamara Strelnikova from Kazakhstan and their startup project Lemonade that deservedly received first prize and up to $30,000 in investment to further develop their project with the help of Konstruktor.

The Lemonade project (Leap Motion Navigation of Deaf) by Ekaterina and Tamara Strelnikova is a project to create an interactive simulator that will help children with hearing impairments, as well as their parents, to master both sign language and the sign alphabet.

The project is innovative, high-tech, has practical application and solves a specific existing problem. At the same time, this is a solidarity project. Initially, the idea of creating a product that would facilitate communication and integration of children with hearing difficulties arose as a personal situation for the creators' family. However, the use of such a simulator can in fact improve the quality of life of more than 360 million people in the world who are deaf or hearing impaired. In this case, we can talk about the global nature of the project as well as its commercial appeal.

Ekaterina Strelnikova was the project's ideological inspiration and her mother, Tamara, was the project's technical consultant. Despite her relatively young age, at 20 Ekaterina already teaches programming and has been developing her own projects since she was young. Her mother Tamara is a professional Python developer. Together, they were not only able to learn about Konstruktor, but they were also able to present an original project and create its successful presentation and promotion.

Today Lemonade technology is already at the implementation stage and is being applied in practice at Boarding School 1 in Almaty.

The presentation of first prize to the winners of the KonstruktorStart startup competition was an important event for Konstruktor itself, which plans to continue supporting enthusiasm, intelligence, professionalism and entrepreneurship. And from future information, Konstruktor will also continue to create a space for creativity, dreams and cooperation.

How do you do a monthly budget when income can fluctuate in small business?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 05:54 PM PDT

I've been in business since 2017. In the past 2 years it's grown to a really good place. I've gone from being like "I will never pay off student loans or own a house" to "I need to budget so I can own a house and pay off student loans."

So I want to do a monthly budget and dump money into debt, and save what I can in my investment fund that goes towards a down payment for a house or condo (Hoping to have 35k-50k saved by end of 2022 for house).

My question is, how do I budget for things when small business income fluctuates so much?

Some months I'll gross $10k and others I'll gross $15k.

Any advice or resources would be great cause my searches have not been helpful so far. Thank you.

Should I reattempt a business that failed a few years ago or try something different.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 09:08 PM PDT

Alright, so a little backstory and then I'll get to meat of the question. Since the beginning of my career I choose to go to school for Automotive Technology instead of going to Business School. My goal was to eventually open an Automotive Repair Facility.

After graduating school I worked a few years as a technician, but found my way into Service advising, (which is selling service) did pretty well in this role and eventually saved up enough to open my own business.

I successfully opened my own Automotive Shop and built a reputation in the area for providing good quality work. I even had a niche for off-road modification behind my name. This was all while building the business to two employees over a two year period. All in all it was a pretty successful run but we ran into some hurdles that forced us to close up the shop in 2017.

Since closing my business I have made 3 legit attempts to reopen, but in unconventional ways. All the while I have been in and out of sales and management jobs at various shops and dealerships.

So I have spent 10 years in total working in the car industry, learning as much as possible about the different sides of the business.

The big question is, do I continue to use this knowledge and experience to my advantage and continue to reopen? Or do I consider alternative paths and possibly pursue a business or venture in a different field.

Either I open another shop, and use my recently aquired skills to add flipping cars to the equation. Or do I start from scratch creating a business bigger than just a service we provide to the general public.

The answer I feel like is easier than I think. I just need some outside perspective.

How do I figure out the monthly fee I should charge my users for premium access in order to make my app profitable?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 03:07 PM PDT

My app that will be available for both Android and iOS will use the following paid services:

    • Firebase Cloud Firestore
    • Firebase Cloud Functions
    • Firebase Cloud Storage
    • Firebase Realtime Database
    • Spoonacular API (using Edamam Recipe Search API right now, but most likely will switch to Spoonacular because it's far more affordable)

With all of these services in use, how do I figure out how much the monthly fee for the premium subscription should be so my app is profitable? Right now I've decided to limit the freemium model to four API calls every 24 hours for every user, but if the user upgrades to premium then it's unlimited for them.

Firing an underperforming manager who is pregnant?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 08:59 PM PDT

My wife owns a retail business with 3 stores (I sometimes advise). She has a Store Manager who told her a few weeks ago that she's pregnant. Since then she's been calling out of shifts, leaving early, and making little effort to get her shifts covered. She's supposed to work >35hrs/week but has been under 25hrs/week. This is resulting in the store being understaffed and I would wager sales are 20% lower due to being understaffed. My wife is about to fire her, but has some hesitancy bc she might claim she's being fired bc she's pregnant. We're in a "right to work" state, but still worried about potential blowback. Thoughts?

Small - Medium Business in Sydney Australia

    Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:09 AM PDT

    Hi All,

I work for a business in Sydney Australia that my boss would like to sell and has asked me to look into how that's possible.

We've been operating for 6 years and own the land, office we operate from, and all the materials we use.
We are an events-based business in the Luxury market and on an average year can make $170,000 - $220,000 per year with reasonably low overheads. This acts as a small side business to the existing parent company so it hasn't been pushed to its limits so to speak (means there's room for major growth in profitability).

Does anyone have any pointers or information that could help me out?

P.S I won't lose my job once the business is sold, I'll either go with it or be taken into the parent company.

I'm so happy to see this thread thriving and everyone helping each other because, no one talk about it but there just AREN'T enough resources for us small business owners on the internet and google and nearly useless so I want to say thank you to everyone who posts, comments and answers questions in this subreddit. Especially with the PPP and EIDL loans and those subreddits as well. We all are really being collaborative and helping each other and I don't think anyone has made a post about it yet so I'm here to tell you all I appreciate all of you and I'm sure we all appreciate each other as well. I love you all!! ❤️❤️ Spread the love!! Honestly if Reddit didn't exist, we'd probably be wasting thousands of dollars talking to overrated consultants and CPAs.

Letting you all know I love you!!

Wanting to start a gaming/net cafe buisness

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 06:55 PM PDT

So I have a pretty solid buisness plan estimating how much money I'll need to get started and stay open for at least 6 months and hopefully break even in the seventh if all goes well however when it comes to getting funds my plan falls short I have no where near enough money for this so does anyone have any suggestion for getting some sort of funds maybe private investors but how would I get a chance pitch my buisness to them, the only other option is a loan but I don't really want to take a loan as it's too much of a gamble if it doesn't go well

    Any help much appreciated :)

Has anyone made the transition from ecommerce to Walmart supplier?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 06:26 PM PDT

I sell my product on Shopify, Amazon and Walmart.com. I've been invited to Walmart's open call for "made in USA" brands, where I'll have a half hour, one-on-one pitch with a Walmart buyer. I'm excited.

I realize I may be getting ahead of myself, but I was wondreing if anyone else had made the transition? How was it? I use a 3PL for fulfillment - I wonder if it'd be better to take fulfillment in-house if I were to supply for Walmart. Do I need special CRM software (I currently just use Shopify and Klaviyo).

One concern is that I have a long manufacturing lead time (10-12 weeks), so there'd be a significant delay once I got that first order unless I try to anticipate it ahead of time.

    Filing an LLC in Pennsylvania

I've been reading as much as I can on the subject, and I believe I only need to file the Certificate of Organization (under the section titled Domestic Limited Liability Company). Can anyone confirm this for me? Or tell me if there are any other forms on this page that I need to file?

Thinking about hiring all PT (adult) employees. Is this a bad idea?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2021 06:53 AM PDT

I am a company of one. I operate a service business in the US. It's skilled work, all of which can be done remotely. I got into this line of work because I was a parent of small kids looking for a flexible schedule. There is a lot of demand for what I do, and I am going to need help if I am going to grow the business.

I was thinking about hiring only part-time employees. My preference would be to hire locally so we can have monthly (or so) in-person staff meetings, but other than that they would be remote. I am confident there are more people out there who are in the same position I was when I started--I wanted to work and I had marketable skills, but I didn't want to work full time. I would probably not want to have more than 10 people on staff.

So, given all of that, is this a terrible idea? Assuming I can find skilled people who want to work under those conditions, what would the drawbacks be for me? What possible problems with this setup might I not be seeing?
