ABC "Always be Closing" is a popular term in sales.... but ABL - "Always be Leaving" works wonders!

Time is your most valuable asset in sales. You need to DISQUALIFY bad leads fast. Adopting the ABL "Always be Leaving" mentality gives you the abundance mindset.

You are no longer chasing bad leads... instead you actively seek reasons why they are a BAD fit... so you can focus your TIME on the most qualified opportunities.

[UPDATE] What should I do about my situation? Fired, anxious and Depressed

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 12:32 PM PDT

I just want to say thank you to everyone on this sub that boosted my confidence and self worth. I've got a great update for you all!

Three weeks after getting terminated, my boss was let go from the company very quickly. They lost 700K in revenue plus more as my clients left the business. I had so many of my old colleagues and managers reach out to me, offer support and provide avenues for income during this next lockdown I'm currently experiencing. As for me, I reached out to some of the recruiters that had contacted me in the past and have now been placed with a better company and a promotion to Business Development Manager for my Province, with the idea of growing a new product to sell across my territory, then Canada wide, and moving to international sales. The environment is amazing and I'm really looking forward to it! Additionally, I accepted a lower base salary with the ability for major commission to get me into the 6 figure mark for the first time in my sales career. I also negotiated a 6 month commission top up while I ramp up a new client base, learn the products inside and out, and start making sales.

Getting fired was a blessing in disguise, and I'm so looking forward to starting again, in a better environment, and a new client base!

Thanks r/sales! Let's get this bread!

What to ask during a fast-paced SaaS startup interview? Next meeting is with the CEO

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:54 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I am very quickly moving through an interview process at a SaaS start up who has just gotten Series A funding. I've never worked at a startup but I am very excited. That said, what types of questions should I be asking the CEO to ensure I'm a good fit and vica versa?

Here are some I have so far.. *What's your 5 year plan for the company / What Does Success Look Like for the Company? *What's the Current Runway, and What Are Future Funding Plans? *What's your target market? *Why are companies partnering with you? *What is Current Growth Like? *What is the Biggest Risk to the Company?

    Thank you in advance!

Can people who lack confidence be good in sales

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:33 PM PDT

I was wondering because I want to succeed in sales but I've always lacked confidence. I feel like it's gotten better over the years but still, I get nervous when introducing numbers and if that happens then I might not be good at sales.. I really want to do this for a career, though.

    Surgical sales= no work/life

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 10:32 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

This is totally a vent, so feel free to X out if you aren't familiar with medical device in the surgery environment or just hate people venting.

I was laid off last fall and took what I thought would be a great job with a very well known ortho company. It has been nothing but a nightmare for six weeks and while you may think, six weeks is nothing, it has been non-stop toxicity since I began.

I am supposed to be in training and committing time to modules, studying, etc. I am having 15 hour days running trays/sets from hospital to hospital, zero notice. I was told in interviews 'you'll have a work/life balance, we don't have call, this isn't trauma'. Well, surgeons change their mind, add on cases last minute, and the reps don't tell me they need me to do something until the last second.

My phone can go off 24 hours a day, including the middle of the night, and I am expected to get dressed or drop what I am doing and go run sets. I am a courier. My every minute and free time is analyzed because I'm not doing great at training now that I've fallen behind and being told,' you should do your training on the weekends if you can't manage your time during the week'. HOW am I supposed to manage my time when I can't plan my weeks? I am the set running bitch for 4 reps.

I've cancelled dates, doctor appointments, and today is my birthday and I haven't even planned anything because I don't know if I'll be wandering a hospital corridor at 11pm tonight.

I'm just hoping to let go at this point. This year has been a nightmare. I had great, rewarding jobs before this pandemic and layoff.

Job hunting - Company asking for references, can they ask about quota attainment?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 03:21 PM PDT

Interviewing for enterprise roles and one of the company's is asking for 4 references. Just curious has anybody received reference checks before? What do they commonly ask?

I'm also mainly curious about if they ask about past quota attainment during reference checks. Has that happened to anybody before?

Do Account Executives typically have higher OTE than SEs?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 09:48 AM PDT

I understand that AEs have less base and more comission than SEs. But are the OTE figures typically similar or do they differ significantly?

Have an AE friend (I was his SE before he jumped ship) who's has a $300k OTE at a well-known SaaS company (apprently 80% of AEs there meet their targets) and they're looking to hire an SE. I'm curious if this should influence the OTE figure I should ask for, or if I should be aiming quite a bit lower.

When to bring up business when taking out a prospective client out.

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 01:30 PM PDT

What do you all think is a good time to bring up business when taking a prospective customer out for fun? For example:

If you take them out for golf, should you wait until the back 9? If you take them out for dinner, should you wait until entrees are served?

Would love to hear how reps in this group handle situations like these!

    Outbounding without email automation

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 12:41 PM PDT

How can I send cold emails efficiently without an email automation tool? Are there any AE's or BD managers out there that do not use a tool like outreach and only send out manual emails (one by one on gmail for example)

Regardless of deal size, should all deals take the same amount of time? Thoughts?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 02:57 AM PDT

    Hey all,

I'm working in IT/engineering services selling b2b. I'm a full cycle AE and have to generate my own leads and close. I get some inbound leads.

I didn't inherit any existing accounts when I joined up as an AE so I am doing everything outbound initially, converting clients and growing up a base of customers. The kind of deals I can sell are:

    • A canned project
    • A custom project
    • Support
    • Monitoring

Based on my experience so far the sales cycle and volume of effort is roughly the same for each deal once the customer is in qualification. The tasks are the same regardless of the deal and it generally runs like this:

    • Emails: co-ordinate initial meeting, follow up after each meeting, email proposals, email for signature
    • Calls: Discovery call >> internal scoping/estimation call >> Proposal Call
    • Documentation: Prepare proposal deck, prepare semi-formal proposal to share over email, share master services agreement, prepare final contract for signature
    • Backend: create record in salesforce, update oppty etc.

The thing I'm noticing is that it doesn't matter if this is a $15k canned project or a $80k support contract. The level of effort is roughly similar and the process doesn't differ all that much. Does that happen at other companies? Is the level of effort pretty consistent across all deals?

Unless there's a significant digital transformation component, it's pretty much always the same. Sometimes I've done a contract earlier that week and will do copy and paste which can shorten the documentation part of the process, but other than that it's pretty standard.

    #1 thing sales taught me

SDRs - What do you hate the most about the pre-sales call conversation?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 11:17 AM PDT

What it says on the tin.

Once you've got someone on the call, what's the worst thing you can think of about the pre-sales part of the conversation?

    Pharma rep requirements

Can someone become a pharma rep without a background in the hard sciences and if so, how? Would attending a training workshop help or would it just be a waste of money?

    Account Manager Position

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 06:11 AM PDT

Just to keep it simple - Is an account manager position a good entry into sales, aka lead into an account executive position?

I am weighing two opportunities. Starting late in the sales game - have bachelors and 6 years of accounting/finance experience. The AM position sits at a higher pay but I am looking to get into being an account executive eventually.

Other position would be SDR, starting from the ground floor with way less pay. Both at big VAR / SaaS companies.

Higher pay or more interesting role?

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 09:29 AM PDT

New grad, got 2 offers. Both base + commission but 10k difference in base pay. Higher one is in industry I'm less interested in though, but I just graduated recently and need money to pay off loans and kickstart my finances.

    Recommendations?

Having to send an introduction to someone who's interviewing me in the form of a sales email.

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 08:22 AM PDT

I'm not a salesperson. I went to school for marketing but somehow I've picked up a sales interview with a large company that I know I really want and want to learn more about. I have to email my resume to the sales executive that is interviewing me and do it as if my job has already started while also showing why they should hire me. I was thinking of doing something like:

Hi Mr. (NAME)As I understand, (Company) is looking for a small business Sales Representative, and I know that can help you to fill that position. Here is a bit about myself as well as my resume attached below.

Graduate Business Student seeking a sales position, successful at getting done the tasks that are given and unafraid to ask for more work as well as being proactive and self-driven. Strong communications skills in both writing and speaking with experience in sales pitch presentations and creating sales plans. Having a passion for fast-paced environments, being competitive, and holding values such as integrity, empathy, and the ability to listen and understand other's needs. Accomplished student, having received membership into (Association), which is only given to the top 1% of students in their graduating business class. Key strengths include:

    • Enjoying the learning process/ learning from others
    • Seeing a task through no matter what
    • Marketing Research Experience
    • Social Media Marketing
    • Being creative with my work

I'm looking forward to interviewing with you on (DAY)- MY NAME

Is there anything I can change or do better? Does anyone have any format suggestions?

    Commission Advice

    Posted: 10 Jun 2021 07:59 AM PDT

I'm on the last couple of days of my current job. I'll be starting my new position with a new company next week. It is in my contract that I will not be getting my commission once I put in my 2 weeks.

Because of that, I'm struggling to find motivation to keep working these final days. They keep sending work over to me but I will not get a profit off of it.

Does anyone have advice on how to stay motivated with such little incentive on my final couple days?
