I feel like I'm becoming THAT person about this sub

    Posted: 31 May 2021 05:51 AM PDT

I've been subbed to this subreddit for about 2 years. The information here, the Qs and answers have been informative.

Now though, the questions/posts are questions that are beyond basic and shows a significant lack of rudimentary knowledge.

Or the questions are so vague, to vague to give any meaningful feedback.

Numerous questions on LLC vs Corp. Numerous questions that a simple Google search will answer. Numerous questions that honestly makes no sense. And numerous questions that is market research based. which should be based in your state, County, community. How many companies that provide X in your city will be your competition? Idk, that's something YOU should know.

1st steps in getting info is a Google search. 2-nth step is contact SBA, PTAC. SCORE, and your local/state small business development agency.

I'm not getting much value from r/smallbusiness. Maybe I've outgrown it. Idk. I really appreciate this sub cuz I got invaluable info on payroll, website, and phone recommendations.

There's nothing that can be done. I don't want to gatekeep.

Nor do I want to stop ppl from following their dream but it seems like....if this is what you want to do, you'll take the minimal steps to do research.

Reddit isn't where you should start to get information.

SBA your state SBD office Market research in your city state and county

A lot of the posts lately do not seem to have much engagement. I don't respond lately because it falls into the same answers or (I apologize, I'm not trying v to offend) the question is so stupid. Like, ate you seriously asking that? Type of question dumb.

People DO have questions and you don't know what you don't know. Please do your research. A lot of your questions, specific questions, can be answered with a Google or Bing search. Checking out the SBA website or calling your state's SBD.

PTAC has a lot of low cost or free training from basic (setting up a business) to advance (contract management).

The SBA has events every month talking about basic (how to set up a business) to semi advanced (different certifications)

Maryland's governor's office of small business has monthly events from basic (doi g business with Maryland) to advance (writing proposals)

90% is free. SBA IS FREE (go to eventbrite and look up SBA in your state)

Idk. This sub is depressing me or something.

Idk how to help make this sub invaluable again. But maybe it's just me.

Edit: I realize most of y'all are not in Maryland. That's fine. You don't have to be a Maryland resident to view the content. It's online now. Also, I join a lot if other state's PTAC webinars. Northen Cali for example. Why? Because they made a webinar in a topic I'm interested in that MDPTAC didn't do for a few months.

I found out about the SBA COC from watching the South Dakota PTAC webinar about SBA Programs. It was a throwaway comment but it was info I didn't know about. Essentially, look around and contact the organization's built to help small business.

Edit 2. On mobile, fat fingers. Autocorrect is a thang.

Where can I get a $20-$30k business loan fast?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 03:54 PM PDT

I need to get a business loan of $20-$30k within the week to pay my manufacturer for inventory.

Usually I would have the funds to pay but after my last month of sales my merchant Provider has put a hold on releasing my funds so I have nothing left to go back and purchase more inventory.

My company has $80k+ in sales so far the past 4 months and projected to double after I post more inventory. I have all my Shopify and PayPal sales reports to show this. Also every time I drop inventory I sell out.

I can't seem to find a good place to find a loan because I only recently converted to a LLC in November 2020. I don't really have any business credit yet because it is basically new. My personal credit score is above 700 but since I'm under 21 years old my credit is also considered too new.

I have all the sales and bank statements to prove I can easily pay back the loan but it seems no one wants to lend me money because my business is considered young and credit is history is young also.

Anyway or anywhere I can go? Hopefully get funding within a week.

Already owner of a small business, wanting to switch direction looking for insight.

    Posted: 31 May 2021 06:21 AM PDT

After leaving my job and opening my small take away and delivery restaurant (with 20 seats inside) for 7+ years im looking to change directions. At the moment its an asian kitchen, its going alright and even survived the whole covid thing.

However ive been talking with a friend about going to italy to study for gelato. They got schools there ranging from 1 week to couple months.

Now ive been thinking, thats not a crazy idea. I can start an ice cream shop wherever i want in the world and its timeless.

But most of all, its a lot less work and pressure compared to asian kitchen/restaurants. I make the ice cream and just hire 2 or 3 people to scoop/sell.

Im planning to just take a 2 week course in italy and see whats up with it. In worst case i then know how to make gelato, money still well spend. I can then experiment and play around in my current restaurant and see where it goes. Only downside is even more work pressure ofcourse. But if it goes well and is well received ill sell my business or rebrand it to sell only ice cream.

Has anyone made a switch in business directions or done a rebrand? Its a huge step to sell my stable business to start something new with no experience. Guess im looking for some stories to give me some confident to push through with the idea.

Started a thrift store, recieved too many items. How to organize inventory?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:48 AM PDT

I've started a thrift store and received over 5000 items which has been very overwhelming. I'm not sure how to manage the inventory or organize the logistics in the event i would have to ship out items as well.

Are there any recommendations for how to process the items or keep it organized? My location has about 900 square feet of back warehousing space.

Why don't more thrift stores sell online? (does anyone have personal experiences)

What should I title an email that has an invitation to leave a review?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 05:42 AM PDT

Hello. Ik some people don't like companies asking them for reviews but I am owner/OP of a service biz and to me reviews help a lot and most of my customers don't care. I'm almost at 100 google reviews and I was going to get a subscription to this review app and send out a bunch. But prior to that I was going to send a blanket/flood email to all my customers letting them know and if they could leave a review itd be appreciated etc etc so on and so forth. But what would be a good subject title that would make people want to open it? Any ideas?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 10:23 PM PDT

I see the value in using a CRM for my new SAAS business, but there are tons of choices and the prices range from $25PM to $1K+.

I'm looking for deal workflows, something that generates quotes, and tracks my contacts. Right now I'm comparing HubSpot, Salesforce, and I kind of like Insightly. Advice?

Using Waveapps for tracking international contractors

    Posted: 31 May 2021 03:53 AM PDT

Canadian business, I've been working solo for the last ~8 years, but now grown enough that I've started using subcontractors to extend my reach. I have an offshore team helping me with some webdev, and I'm trying to figure out how to add them to my Waveapps - how do I handle this stuff internationally?

Need advice on a business idea.

    Posted: 31 May 2021 03:17 AM PDT

I first want to thank this sub for making me think about being an entrepreneur and letting me explore in what I think I am good at and providing me with a TON of information etc.

My first thought was to create an eCommerce shop, but I think I lack basic knowledge for that and I want to be ready one day to launch my own firm.

    So I had an idea!

The concept is, I go to small businesses (I have a few peers that own one) and make a proposal. Creating a subscription box site for their products. More specifically, I know a girl that owns make-up etc. products shop. The idea is that I approach her and make a proposition that I take on a project to create an e-shop that is only for subscription boxes with her brand and items. I get to buy the items in wholesale price, make the site, advertise the product and take the full profit from it. Then, when I think it is set and afteer I hopefully made some money, and after I gain knowledge, I sell the business to the shop owner and I also sell the how to.

The deal I make may vary. For example I can make a deal that she pays for everything, I put the work, and after it is set I hand it over without cost (but I get to keep the profit until that happens).

I really could use some feedback. This is an idea that came to me today after browsing some shops in my country with related products. Let me know if you think it is a good idea or if you can propose something else similar it would be highly appriciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Where is the Accountability People?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 06:25 AM PDT

So I have applied for the PPP Loan with Amur, it was approved , I signed loan documents and according to the SBA Capitol Access Finance Portal the status has changed from un-dispersed to dispersed current with unpaid funds listed as 0 and a loan payment amount. Yet 20 days later I have not received any money.....The SBA has said that the Capitol Access Finance Portal is not actually their Portal, information there is not inputted by the SBA. The SBA states how long the lender has to disburse funds: The lender must make a one-time, full disbursement of the PPP loan within ten calendar days of the SBA loan number being assigned. Funny thing is that the SBA must pay the fee to the lender (in my case 50% of my loan amount that I've not received) within 5 days of reporting a loan has been dispersed. WTAF?? The SBA says that I have to speak to the lender directly about the loan, they keep saying wait 14 days (no matter what day I call). Anyone that can keep me from loosing my mind here?

Opinions on using my own credit card to pay my business expenses and using my line of credit to pay it back?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 02:29 AM PDT

I got a line of credit so I can start a business. I'm thinking of using PayPal to pay for my merchandise. I am importing them from distributors in different countries so this is the safest way for me to pay. I'm wondering if it'll be a good idea to use my credit card through PayPal and just pay that amount from my line of credit?

Stay away from Everlance mileage tracker app

    Posted: 30 May 2021 03:46 PM PDT

Hi, I'm writing here about the Everlance app as gsuite users can't leave a review on Google Play Store, meh.

I just want to say how much terrible this application is. I can't believe the star rating is so high. Since day one it's been a broken app. At least my bug reports were fixed and at that time there weren't any critical issues to worry about.

I'm currently doing my tax return and I just found out that Everlance haven't tracked many trips. This is a real pain in the rear considering some of these are months ago and it's not human to remember everywhere you went with your car.

I also misclassified some of my trips in the past. While scrolling in the "All" trips section where you can reclassify your trips I had the bad surprise that the app is broke again. When you reclassify something to business it just does like it's working but then after when you open back the app all the trips you have reclassified are now Personal trips, wtf seriously? And of course you can't add them back as business trips.

I don't have time for a fix, for this broken piece of shit app. They didn't want to refund me the app so I though id make an honest review of this amateur coded potato so everyone knows how bad and critical is this app.

They literally destroyed a whole year of mileage tracking of mine and I've paid for that.

Everlance -1/5 stars. Get off the market, mileage tracking isn't something you can screw up with bad coding.

    Dog Treat Business Ingredients Question

    Posted: 30 May 2021 08:20 PM PDT

I am making an ingredient label to go on the back of my packaging for my dog treats, but I have a question. I was wondering if since my ingredients are store bought, if I have to include the ingredients in the store bought product? I use all natural products, but things like peanut butter have stuff in it. Thanks. :)

    Finding salesmen for new business

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:02 PM PDT

    Hello,

First off, I've been long time reader of r/smallbusiness, but it's my first time posting a question. My old man and I are planning to start a business selling hydrogen products(hydrogen sterilizers, water filters, etc) from an established company in Korea that is branching out to the states. I was hoping to get some advice on whether we should start online or find and hire commissioned salesmen and women. These products range from $500-$5000+, so we think the best option may be to hire sales people, but I'm not sure where to begin with that process. I'm willing to give more info, if anyone asks, and I would greatly appreciate any opinions and advice. Please help!

How to get a good estimate of sales as a new business

    Posted: 30 May 2021 08:35 PM PDT

Hi. I'm in the beginning stages of starting a niche online women's clothing company and I'm having a hard time coming up with a reasonable estimate for sales. I'm a professional accountant so I want accurate numbers but in the past I've always had prior year sales figures to use to develop sales forecasts. As a new business I have no historical data to reference. The idea of selling 1,000 pants this year seems like a lot but I don't know, maybe it's not considering I'll be selling in both Canada and the US.

I'm planning to do a Kickstarter campaign (which I know is a whole other animal) to help me gauge interest but wondering if anyone has any other ideas on how to come up with reasonable sales estimates for a new business. I don't want to just pick a random number with nothing to justify it. I tried looking at statistics data - _% of the female population between 30 and 45 with a college education but what % do I use?

The reason I want a sales figure is to help me determine how much to spend in Marketing, Consulting, etc. If I felt that I'd likely sell 1000 pieces this year, I'd feel justified in spending the $5000 the photographer just quoted me. If I probably won't sell that much this year, I'll need to rethink things.

    Thanks

    $800 LLC fee CA

    Posted: 30 May 2021 03:36 PM PDT

    Background:

My friends and I started the LLC on May 06, 2019, but we never conducted business. So, on Dec 29, 2019 we filed for short form cancellation certificate and the LLC Form 568 on March 15, 2019.

    Problem:

The problem is I received a bill that says I owe 800 + penalties the other day. Before the cancellation of the LLC in 2019, I asked one of the employees from FTB about the $800 fee and told me that I didn't have to pay it. I asked her twice about this to make sure and said I should be ok. Now, I received this balance of 800 + penalties. What could I do about this?
