Great Lakes Account reduced (interest gone)

    Posted: 30 May 2021 09:37 AM PDT

Today I opened up my Great Lakes account after not checking for the past 2 months. My balance is reduced by almost $3k and it completely wiped out all of the unpaid interest on my 2 loans, which had accrued before covid relief. I pulled my credit report and the loans are the original balance with the interest.

Has anyone else had this happen to their loans? Is this legit or an error on GLs part?

Should I pay off my debt early in full? And when?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 03:15 PM PDT

Hi all, I am wondering if I should pay off my student loans in full early to avoid interest, and if so, when I should do so. I graduated last May, and have been on the COVID payment freeze since graduating, so I still have my full balance with no payments made yet. I have approx. 30k in debt, and make about 42k ish a year as of right now. However, I currently am living at home to cut down on costs and an am able to keep my own personal costs pretty low, so I do keep/save most of what I earn. Debt in general causes anxiety for me, so I'm wondering if it might be best to just go ahead and pay off my debt in full this fall when the COVID freeze ends. If I did that, I'd probably have around 15k left in my Savings at that time. Any thoughts?

Masters degree holder. Looking at a community college program. Loans deferred?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 03:58 AM PDT

Hello all, apologies in advance if I've overlooked the answer here somewhere. I have an MBA and student loans, I'm interested in doing a program at a community college where I would be enrolled in 6 hours a semester. I have federal unsubsidized loans, do I qualify for loan deferment given that I have a masters degree? Thanks in advance.

How screwed am I in regards to student loans?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 07:38 PM PDT

My college's deadline was May 1st, my state's deadline was May 15th. I just renewed my FASFA for my 3L year of law school today. The federal deadline is June 30th.

I normally get a scholarship to pay for tuition from the law school, I get a Direct Graduate Plus loan, and I get a Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan.

How badly screwed am I? It seems like my loans, at least, are from the federal government, though I'm not 100% certain. Maybe the state deadline isn't relevant to me, I don't know.

When do I start applying for federal loans?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 07:32 PM PDT

I'm an upcoming freshman and would like to know how the federal loan process works. I have already filled out the fafsa form long ago, but do not know where I can apply for the federal loan.

    Refinancing student loans

    Posted: 30 May 2021 01:32 PM PDT

Hey y'all, so bare with me. I have little to no knowledge about loans, and am due to start paying for them in November (I think?).

Here's my situation, when I entered undergrad, I applied for federal student loans on my behalf and also got some under parent plus loans.

Well, The interest rates on the parent plus loans are rather high, and my parents want me to refinance them and consolidate them into one loan payment that I'll make. Are there public refinancing companies that'll offer better interest rates and still allow me the possibility of apply for loan forgiveness after 10 years in the public sector? Or better question, what are my options?

What happens to the origination fee if I give back extra funds?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 11:47 AM PDT

I'm trying to figure out how much of my federal loans I need and was thinking about taking the max amount and adjusting it based on my circumstances within 2 weeks of having it disbursed. I was wondering if the origination fee for both (unsubsidized and grad PLUS) would be adjusted in this scenario?

Unisa Inc- Federal Perkins Loan ADVICE NEEDED

    Posted: 30 May 2021 10:23 AM PDT

I just found out that I have a federal perkins loan for $2500 that was sent to Unisa Inc. from my university. It's currently in default. It doesn't look like it took a hit on my credit...yet. I feel fortunate that I can pay that back in full, but I don't know if I should take advantage of the loan rehab.

Do grad plus loans function the same way as normal federal loans?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 05:08 AM PDT

Hey all, I'm having to take out a grad plus loans for my graduate school studies in addition to the $20,500 allowed. Upon graduation, will this loan be structured the same way as my other fed loans? As in, will it just be added to my total federal repayment plan and not paid for separately as a private loan one? Like, will all loans be paid under one payment and not paid back with two separate repayment plans, e.g. pay x amount to federal loans and x amount to grad plus loans each week. Thank you!

    Nelnet won't let me register.

    Posted: 30 May 2021 12:10 PM PDT

This company auto-dials me every day as soon as I get to work. I can't take personal calls at work. Then, they aren't available on the weekend at all. Even for a bank, banking hours are bullshit. All I want to do is make my payment. They tell me that they will help me register, but nothing has been done about me not being able to register. I don't need someone to walk me through it on the phone. Just make it so I can register on the website like the website pretends to promise.

    Incoming Freshman

    Posted: 30 May 2021 10:15 AM PDT

Hi so I am a clueless incoming freshman to a state university. My tuition is around $24k a year (since i'm dorming) and I have no clue about payment plans or loans or anything. My parents will be co-signing and I know that they will pay some of my tuition but i'll most likely still have 15-18k a year left to loan or figure out some other way of paying. What would be advised for my position? I also have $5.5k in federal unsubsidized loans which I believe have a 3% interest rate and I don't think it would be beneficial to take these loans. Any advice is appreciated and if more details are needed let me know!
