    • Non advice beginner questions

Keep in mind that this subreddit, and this thread, is not an appropriate venue for questions that should be directed towards your broker's customer support or google.

    • How old are you? What country do you live in?
    • Are you employed/making income? How much?
    • What are your objectives with this money? (Buy a house? Retirement savings?)
    • What is your time horizon? Do you need this money next month? Next 20yrs?
    • What is your risk tolerance? (Do you mind risking it at blackjack or do you need to know its 100% safe?)
    • What are you current holdings? (Do you already have exposure to specific funds and sectors? Any other assets?)
    • Any big debts (include interest rate) or expenses?
    • And any other relevant financial information will be useful to give you a proper answer.

    Should I invest 20 000$ in S&P 500?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 12:28 AM PDT

I am new to the investing world. I have saved 20k over a year and I'm looking for a safe/small risk investment where I can get some passive income. Is S&P a good option? Do you know any better or more profitable options with small risk chances? I've been also investing in crypto for fun, not looking to invest any further or bigger amounts of money. I live in Europe so I'm not looking for options that aren't available here.

Does anyone buy exclusively sector ETFs?

    Posted: 30 May 2021 08:27 AM PDT

I've been adding more of the X-Etf's in the last month; XLF, XME, XLI, XLE, XLT, etc. I do own several stocks I have conviction about, but I'm thinking of trimming and going into more sector specific ETFs.

Is this completely pointless? Does it just make sense to just buy in SPY?

I've been able to out-perform SPY recently so I'm just curious if this is a complete waste of effort or what others opinions are. thank you.

If i am not from US should i still invest in S&P 500 because i am not interested in my local market at all?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 03:11 AM PDT

The Question is self explanatory but are there extra taxes and stuff or i can benefit the average 10% return by DCAing over 10-15 years? I am from a third world country so basically there are not many good global institutions yet and hence the ETF are not very interesting and since the beginning i have only researched about US and its market. Is it possible to do that? Any explain will be appreciated.

    Lumpsum vs DCA investment?

    Posted: 31 May 2021 02:03 AM PDT

I want to invest some money in MSCI all country world index for long term. Should I just invest lumpsum or DCA?

Right now I am doing DCA by buying the dips every month but I would be better off had I invested all in the first dip of the year.

The amount I want to invest this year is lying in my bank account earning 0% interest. Lumpsum investment would mean more time in the market whereas DCA will offer some mental peace of not buying the top. Any advices?

Case-Shiller Home Price Index + MACD

    Posted: 30 May 2021 10:40 AM PDT

I'd like to apply the MACD indicator to the Case-Shiller Home Price Index to analyze divergence. Does anyone know how I might go about doing that?

    Companies that make masks primarily

    Posted: 30 May 2021 10:18 PM PDT

I'm not sure but it seems like a statistical claim to say that mask usage has been dropping and will continue dropping.

That means mask production will need to slow.

Anyone got good companies out there that "primarily" produce masks? It seems like if you could short them you might have an investment model.

This post needs to be above 400 characters, so I will discuss further how this is a good idea..... Demand has been high for several years, oops demand goes down.... Price goes down, good to short? I don't know.

    EDIT:

    Prestige Consumer Healthcare Inc. (PBH)

might be one? I haven't looked too much into the company but it seems quite possible as a GOOD SHORT?

ENPH, but maybe I'll sell for....

    Posted: 28 May 2021 08:26 PM PDT

As the title reads, all my money are tied into enph leaps. Jan 2023 190 to be exact. I do beilve in the company and I think it could head back to 200 end of year which will be great! I was thinking about selling them and going after something more aggressive like SQ leaps or AI leaps. I was looking at the 230 Jan 2023 leaps for SQ and AI leaps 65 stirke for 2023. I think SQ could retest 280 end of year and AI 110. Chime in ...

Apple represents 20.13% of Vanguard's Information Technology ETF (VGT); Microsoft represents 16%. Is this ETF really diversified?

    Posted: 27 May 2021 12:02 PM PDT

I was looking at Vanguard Information Technology (VGT) holdings this afternoon, and was shocked to find that although there are 331 companies in this ETF, 36% of the entire fund consists of just two companies: Apple and Microsoft. See here: https://investor.vanguard.com/etf/profile/portfolio/VGT/portfolio-holdings

The reason that I invest in ETFs is to diversify my holdings of equity securities. I've been tossing a few dollars into VGT since last year, under the assumption that since it's an ETF, my investments will be broadly diversified across the information technology industry. So here are some questions I now have:

    1. Is this dramatic skewedness toward just one or two companies unusual in an ETF?
    2. Does anyone care to explain why such a skewness is justified in this case?
    3. What are some technology ETFs that better balances the exposure to each company in the fund, but also have near-zero expense ratios?
