Work/Life Balance in Car Sales? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:49 AM PST Been looking for a new job a little bit, and mostly only had offers from car dealerships. I am an experienced salesperson, but always done cell phones or cable services which are honestly hustles I'm not looking to do anymore. Anyway, I am hesitant to try car sales, but not because I'm afraid I wouldn't make money, I've always been a top performer. I have always hesitated to go into car sales because everyone I've known says "you can make money but say goodbye to your relationship, kids, any travel or social life." What I want to know from car sales people or those who have done it, is how do you maintain a work/life balance? Or is it really just not possible to do in that industry AND make good money? Is there something else I should look into? Edit: couple folks have asked if I have a college degree. Unfortunately not yet, I'm still in school and slowly proceeding online [link] [comments] |
Current Attorney thinking a out getting out of Law Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:06 AM PST All the stress and anxiety that comes with law has taken its toll after 7 years. I'm thinking of getting out of law. Problem is that my degree keeps me out of so many positions. Sales seems like a good opportunity to make some decent money. I don't need to be making 500k. What do you guys like most about your jobs? What do you hate? What was your income trajectory. Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |

Going into sales engineering right out of college? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:43 AM PST Is this possible and would you recommend it? I am a civil engineering student that has some intern experience. I found out that I don't like it so I want to move into sales engineering. Is it possible to going into SE out of college with no engineering experience? Also for reference, I have 2 years of retail customer service experience. Not sure if that helps or not. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:00 AM PST Hi, i started my first job out of Engineering Uni 5 months ago as a sales executive in a big steel manufacturing company. The salary isn't that great, around 35k and i am not liking the job that much so far, as they don't give me many responsibilities ( they say it's gonna happen in september at best). Some companies are contacting me from another US state offering me job positions as sales executive where they would pay me double as much as i get know. I am not sure i am going to like these other jobs better and they could be a bit out of my expertise area (they would be IT, i majored in Material Science). Would you suggest me to change job if i have the possibility or would it look bad on my cv to change company this early since i just recently started to work there? [link] [comments] |
Are B2C skills transferable to B2B? Posted: 01 Mar 2021 03:57 PM PST I've been in a couple of B2C jobs and I've been a top performer in almost every single sales team. Overall, I would say I'm decent at sales, but I've been thinking about jumping to B2B (preferably SaaS) and honestly it scares me. Just reading about the job descriptions and having to book meetings with C-level execs and conducting presentations/demo. The sales cycles also tend to be a lot longer as compared to trying to close a customer on the spot. All of a sudden I don't feel as confident anymore and feel like I'm entering a whole new playing field. Any advice or suggestions on how to be more confident in my transition? Would my B2C sales background be an asset for a SaaS B2B role? [link] [comments] |
Closing a Marketing Strategy Lead - How to Professionally Create Urgency with B2B Prospect? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:41 AM PST I'm a solo digital marketing consultant. My projects are typically in the $3k-$5k range. I want to work on shortening my sales cycle I sent out a detailed, professional Marketing Strategy Proposal for $3k to a qualified prospect two weeks ago. He responded a week later asking for minor revisions and for an estimate for me to work on Implementation of the Strategy (Website, Social Media Email Marketing, etc). I sent back a tweaked version of the initial Proposal with a ballpark estimate of $5k to implement it. He replied after another week saying that he is still looking over it and will get back to me if he has questions. We haven't spoke on the phone since our initial call two weeks ago, and he has rebuffed two of my requests for a phone call. At this point, I want to create a sense of urgency to make him say yay or nay quickly. I truly don't care if he walks, I just want a decision. I'm thinking of saying something like: "Would it be possible to make a decision on moving forward with the Strategy piece by Thursday (two days from today)? I have two large projects in my pipeline, and want to ensure that I have sufficient time and availability to commit to (Business Name) should you decide to move forward." Please let me know what you guys think. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Thinking of quitting my job at a FTSE 100 company to move to a SaaS SDR/BDR role Posted: 02 Mar 2021 06:44 AM PST I am 24 and have done 6 months at a big Telecomms company in the UK and can't see a future in the company. I feel my skills are more suited to a sales role and have started applying to SaaS roles. Does anyone here have any experience in SaaS? Would you recommend it? From what I can tell it can be a very lucrative career after 2-3 years once you become an AE. Has anyone else made the transition from a corporate commercial role to a sales role? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:23 AM PST I'm in the final presentation stage of interviewing for an Account Executive (farmer) position at a SaaS organization. I've been asked to do a 20 minute pitch on my current company's products. I'll be defining the rolls of the people I'm meeting with (CEO/CFO). I generally don't start talking product specific until after my first meeting. I use the first meeting to assess the clients objectives and needs. I then would move into an analysis meeting and demo where I do start talking about products. Going into the interview presentation, should I assume we have had a first meeting where I have uncovered their needs? My thoughts are to open the presentation by recapping "what they told me," and why we are meeting today, then move into products that can solve for their needs. Am I going about this the wrong way? Should this be more along the lines of an elevator pitch? Any tips or suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Being an SE with no overnight travel? Does this even exist? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:22 AM PST Looking to go into sales engineering, but don't want to be on the road all the time. Are there SE jobs that don't do overnight travel? I am 100% ok with same day local travel (hour or less travel). I know there is less travel atm because of COVID, but do you think it will stay that way after the pandemic is over in a few years? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:12 AM PST Hey all, Trying to make a long story short. Been a SaaS AE for 3 years. First year was for a decently sized, well established, industry leader. Was very fun work enviro, but low pay (75k OTE). Second and third year was at a smaller company who got the shit kicked out of them by the industry leaders. The only good thing about this place was inbound lead flow (2-3 leads/week). However, it was a very transactional sale (which I hated), and the place was an absolute pressure cooker in terms of pressure from the c-level. It was miserable. The OTE here was 140k, 70/70 split, but not one person in two years earned above 120. I was making about 105k. Quit here cause I just couldn't take the unnecessary pressure. 6 reps have subsequently quit after me. I'm now in month 6 off new gig. Mid-market type role. 80k base, 130 OTE. Pure start up, only 5 years old, lot of opportunity (I think). I've liked it so far cause there is very little overhead. No managers, only 3 reps, and we all directly report to the chief sales officer, who I generally like. So the reason I left my last company has been "remedied". The only problem is. I'm not having much traction here in my first 6 months. I've closed one deal, soon to be 2. But have absolutely nothing solid for q2/3 yet. This place has basically no marketing team, and the leads we get are few and far between. I have received one lead in 6 months. We also have no BDR team. I outbound like a mad man. I've loved this job for the most part this far. However, I'm slowly falling out of love with it. My territory is the "cold territory", so I typically am the odd man out when it comes to pipeline. I don't have much flexibility with time off (partly cause the numbers aren't there), while my two other teammates do what they want. On top of it all, the money is so wildly inconsistent. I have a lot going on at home (trying for a second kid, buying a new home, etc.), which I tend to tie back to "this would all be less nerve wracking if work was going well". I'm at the point where my mental health is deteriorating a bit. I generally love sales, can manage the pressure fairly well, and want to take that step up to an enterprise rep in the next year or two. Just not sure if I should stick it out with this company or hop to another. Any advice from all of you? About the company I'm at, about my situation as a whole, anything. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:43 AM PST I have a year of SDR experience under my belt at a blue-chip tech firm through a year-long internship during Uni. Consequently, I was able to land an AM role at a different blue-chip which offered much better sales training and higher OTE. I sacrificed a lot of time and social events two years ago to secure the roles which led to the position I am in now, so I am thrilled to say the least. For my seasoned tech sales gurus on this sub, or anyone with experience: - What would you do if you were in my shoes to make sure I crush my number quickly? - Is there anything you would have done differently if you were to restart your sales career? - What, in your view, are the 'hot' tech areas of the next decade that will be most lucrative for sellers? Would love to read any answers, whether it be through PMs or comments. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Interview with former TM- Surgical sales Posted: 02 Mar 2021 08:04 AM PST I am in the 3rd stage of interviewing with a large med device company. So far 2 interviews with RSM have gone well, and now he wants me to speak with the former territory manager who worked this division. He is still with the company, just in a different division. I've been in medical/surgical sales for over 10 years, but have never really been afforded this kind of an opportunity. What are some insightful questions I can ask of him that will shed light on the current competitive landscape, and also leave him with a good impression? I know it's a bit vague, and I can provide context if needed. I have plenty of questions in mind already, just wanted to crowdsource it to broaden the aperture a bit. Input is appreciated, especially from other med sales guys and gals... Thanks! [link] [comments] |
The secret for any successful SDR Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:48 AM PST In my team, I have 1 SDR and he schedules 80+ opportunities a month. Yes, only 1 SDR. What does he do to achieve this result? Two simple (not so simple) things: He finds signals that indicate that prospects have available money to spend and are interested in our product (something like finding buying intent from participation in certain conferences, using certain tools, or engaging with certain content on LinkedIn, etc) 2. He uses personalization at scale throughout multiple channels to get the attention of our prospects "Saw you engaged with that content...", "Congrats on the new role at [company], is this also an opportunity to review your processes...?", etc ------ What's the secret for a successful SDR in your opinion? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:11 AM PST Have been feeling a little bit down myself. I work as a business development executive at an Audio Visual Integration firm. We supply & install AV equipment ( Displays, VC Systems, Microphones, Speakers) for corporates. We either pitch directly to clients or we pitch to Architects/ Project Management consultants who take up the AV package on behalf of the client. Now these architects/ PMCs are loaded up with projects. My role as a BDE is to build relationship with key people in the architectural firms or project management consultants. Have been doing this for a year and luckily enough I have been getting one enquiry or the other through just follow ups but pure follow up and asking for opportunities do not seem to be working greatly. Moreover, It does not also help so greatly when you competition can deliver upon the same services at a lower cost. Also what are the avenues of buidling a better relationship when half of these people are not ready to meet you. Feel like crap. Willing to listen if you have got some advice. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:01 AM PST I am trying to convince my management to rebalance sales territories across Canada and the US. We're a startup and the territories have been assigned in a fairly haphazard way. The problem is that we have ZoomInfo and the data in it is unbelievably poor. For example in my patch, where i've been selling for 25 years, it claims there are 7,500 companies over 5k employees where the actual number is under 100. Basically Zoom shows every company that has an office in territory as HQ'ed there. I'm sure this is true for other areas as well, but I don't know them so trying to use Zoom info to demonstrate the imbalance is a non starter. Does anyone know an accurate data source? Or, maybe part of the issue is that Zoom's data in Canada where I am is much worse than it is in the US? I really just need HQ location and FTE count. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Mar 2021 04:54 PM PST Hi guys, Currently work for a large IT solutions firm (think Cisco, CDW, etc.) Have been there for about 3 years in a hunter/farmer hybrid role selling into mid-market (accounts with >$250k spend propensity). I've seen solid success in the role. I'm looking at making the jump and am primarily looking at SaaS roles. Now I know that SaaS has always been ultra competitive and that the market has only gotten more congested due to COVID. I also know that these companies are usually thirsty for candidates who already have SaaS experience, meaning I'm likely behind the 8 ball. I'm looking for advice on how I can bridge the gap. Any good questions or lines I can work into the conversation that would show I have the right mindset for the role even if I'm a slightly non traditional candidate? Are there maybe some acronyms or industry terms that'd help me sound credible? Thanks in advance guys! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2021 07:36 PM PST Just needed a quick rant and at least one of you to validate me. Our company which I joined 6 months ago is now entering its 4th month of out of stock in at least one critical component of our product. It is frustrating because many customers want their product quickly. Some are cancelling orders. We use accrual accounting so orders don't count until they ship. Revenue is holding steady overall. Just generally it is not good for morale because everyone is stressed out and in survival mode. Anyway rant ended and if anyone has a tip for dealing with similar issues when you're trying to hit a quota post it here. [link] [comments] |
[SaaS] advice needed on compensation: am I being underpaid? Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:55 AM PST Hi all, quite new to the Sales world - got into it from working in management consulting before. I work in a SaaS company in Europe, it's growing quickly currently and planning an IPO in around 5 years. Sales cycles are long (4-18 months) and deal sizes are large; I just closed a first deal with an ARR of around 1.2m recurring revenue. do you know what is a good commission/ARR ratio in SaaS? Currently negotiating my commission, first offer from the employer is 3% of ARR as commission. Any help appreciated! :) [link] [comments] |
