I met a guy through OkCupid while on vacation in Texas. I am from Argentina, he is from India and not legally in the US (he was on a work permit, but got laid off due to COVID).

I lost my flight due to the snow storm in Texas and this guy offered to take care of me, given that I'd run out of money. He took me to Wal-Mart and gave me his credit card to buy some stuff, not only for me but for him too; I did not know it wasn't permitted to do this and that it could get me in trouble. A few days after that he took me to a hotel to "see a movie", to which I obliged due to my feeling of debt, and he got on top of me without warning or protection while insulting and belittling me. I got out of there as soon as I could and talked to the Irving police about this. They contacted him and he is now threatening me with prosecution for card fraud. Should I go all the way and press charges or try to forget about it? I think he is a danger to women and society.

Banned from the break room for being allergic

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 06:43 AM PST

I work at a warehouse and we have a break room where we eat and take coffee on our break.

I have a peanut allergy. I will be really sick if I eat something with peanut in it. It's not as bad as some people who can't be around people who eat peanut-containing food. I can but I just have to be careful not to eat peanuts/peanut containing food. Most days I have lunch with some coworkers in the break room, they all know about my allergy. In order to be safe I only eat food I bring from home and don't share food my coworkers bring. I've done this for years and there never was a problem. But last month our manager left and was replaced. The new manager heard about me being allergic. He started flipping out and said that it was dangerous for me to use the break room and he told everyone not to bring anything with peanuts or peanut oil. I told him that wasn't necessary but he said his son has the same allergy and he knows how it is and he doesn't want to have to call an ambulance because of me.

So my colleagues were banned from bringing peanuts in the break room. But that didn't go well because some of them bring PB and J sandwiches and snacks that have peanuts and there are also candy bars with peanuts in the vending machine. Now the other guys protested and went to the manager and his new solution is that I'm banned from the break room. So now if I want to have lunch I must take it outside (cold), in the locker room (not very clean) or in the warehouse but it's dangerous and unsanitary. So I don't really have a solution except skipping lunch. Now I understand the manager is trying to protect me but I feel like it's a bit like discrimination to be banned from the only place where we can have lunch. Anyway it's really not practical for me. I like this job but a whole shift with heavy lifting and no food/drinks is difficult.

My question is: is it discrimination to ban me from the break room? Is there a law that says there has to be a place where everyone can go safely to at least to drink water or something? I'd like to convince my manager that he has to let me access the room. Thank you.

    BTW I'm in Minnesota.

Doctor took my research and published it as his own

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 06:37 PM PST

I was a research associate (labeled as a volunteer) for a hospital in California and I have published at least 18 papers in peer reviewed journals to date. The research director was stealing work from residents and bolstering another resident who is looking to become an attending st the hospital. When I found out about this, I was fired and the remaining manuscripts I was working on, including one that was already accepted that I worked on 100% on my own was taken from me and my name removed.

I'm not sure what type of lawyer I should be seeking. I'm currently finishing my bachelors. Applying to medical school soon and I did find out that other departments do have paid positions as a research associate.

Any and all help would be very much appreciated!

My roommate stole my mail and is now threating to sue me because I went into her room and found my documents.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:27 PM PST

I have been missing mail and personal belongings for months now. Every time I ask my roommate where my belongings are she would always say that she doesn't have it or that she doesn't know what I'm talking about. Just a few weeks ago I received a letter from our leasing office concerning a rental agreement between me and my landlord and I had noticed that the letter was gone (I put the letter on the kitchen counter and went grocery shopping, when I came back it was gone). I checked the trash and noting. Following that I had also noticed that important tax documents and my unemployment check was missing. I called to see when those documents would get sent out and one was sent in December, the other was sent out in February. Today I went to confront my roommate about missing mail (and my personal belongings) but she wasn't home. When I went to her room I had found opened mail of mine from September. There were documents that I received that had my social security number on it, there were documents that I received from companies that said would help pay my rent due to Covid, and I had found my unemployment check. When I confronted my roommate about my mail being on her desk she denied it and is now threating to sue me for invasion of privacy. I'm writing this because I do not know what my legal rights are. I know that I shouldn't have entered her room but to find my personal mail with my federal information seems wrong to me.

UPDATE: I had a police officer come over and he is willing to do a police report on my behalf but wasn't really helpful with the privacy part. If I do take my roommate to court could I get in trouble for going into her room?

UPDATE: i live in louisville ky

Dr. Phil Used My YouTube Video, But Never Paid Me Per My Contract Agreement

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:06 PM PST

The Dr. Phil show reached out to me last November asking to use my YouTube video. We signed a contract where they got the rights to use my video in exchange for $150 compensation. The episode aired in December 2020. It is now March 2021 and I have not received payment. I have contacted them twice, but I've only gotten the response of "we're looking into it".

I'm not in a rush- but do I have to wait a certain amount of time before taking this to small claims? I'm not really interested in taking this to court, but I'm frustrated that a multi million dollar production company cannot pay me $150 in a timely manner.

    I am in Illinois, USA.

UPDATE: Literally 2 hours after posting this the Dr. Phil show contacted me that they had sent the payment.

(North Carolina) Unlicensed Person Performing Major Veterinary Surgeries!

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 06:03 AM PST

I know of a business that is advertising themselves as a "medical center" for exotic animals despite not having a single licensed veterinary professional on staff. In fact, they encourage people NOT to go real vets, while also listing themselves as a veterinary clinic on social media. I don't think the main " practitioner" even has a college degree, to be honest. I knew they were scheduling appointments with people to see their pets and provide terrible medical advice, but they recently have starting claiming that they are also performing major surgeries at their business. Unfortunately, he manages to fool a lot of people into thinking he is legitimate.

Who can I report this too? I've tried contacting the state veterinary board and after several months, nothing has changed. I don't think this particular town's cops care either.

    Next of Kin Question.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 10:59 AM PST

About 3 weeks ago my father passed away. There was an acquaintance of his that had requested to be next of kin to the sheriffs dept. when he passed. The sheriffs pretty much dropped all effort to get ahold of family, because this woman said she should break the news. My dad was single and has three children. Should we have been contacted first? This leads into more questions but figured I would start here. Your input is appreciated.

    Small work thing

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:26 AM PST

So on the 17th I fell at work and had to file an incident report because I had extreme pain in my back, knee and ankle. (Also for context later i am 17 years old).

My work had me contact their insurance company for a workers comp claim and I had to do all of that. The claim required that I get checked out at a nearby facility that has that as a specialty. Here comes the medical stuff.

I went without my parents because they couldn't take me due to work. I filled out all the paperwork correctly, especially my DOB.

They checked me and gave me X-rays as well. They then prescribed me physical therapy, an ankle brace, muscle relaxers and steroids. All of which was without my parents present. And they were also filled out right then and there do I received said drugs right away.

My parents freaked out and called our lawyer and said it was illegal and stuff. So I guess my question is, is this illegal at all it is it my fault or something?

Moving company is holding my items and car hostage.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:46 PM PST

I graduated from university in the US, MA in Dec 2020. It was time for me and my mother to move out of the country, along with our household items and car. We are based in the UAE.

The moving company is based in NJ. My mother arranged everything with them:

    Pre move:

    - Based on the items we told them we were shipping, they quoted us a volume of 300 cft (cubic foot).

    - Quote was $5,000. Includes the shipment of the car (We gave them the title of the car for clearance.)

    - They wanted an upfront deposit of $2,000, which we paid.

    - We did not sign a contract.

    Move out day:

On the move out day, we saw another company's truck outside our apartment. It didn't feel right. But I thought to myself: 'Ok, they might have subcontracted this move, maybe this is normal.' Three men came to pack everything. Everything went as planned. Before they loaded everything on the truck, I luckily recorded the video and voice of the man saying everything is about 420 cft.

    Red Flags:

    - Just yesterday, the moving company sent us an invoice, which shows 500 cft to be shipped. We disputed the difference of the 500 cft vs 420 cft successfully because I had video footage. The additional 120 cft is about $1,116 @ $9.3/cft.

    - They added a 'long carry' charge ($430) and a 'stair carry' charge ($220), even though we live in an apartment complex with elevators. Our apartment's door is approximately a 20 meter walk from the elevator.

    - They added an 'insurance processing fee' of $55.

    - They added a 'bank wire' charge of $45.

    - They said that they do not accept credit card on the invoice.

    - In hindsight, the deposit was unnecessary; apparently, reputable movers do not require deposits. Customers usually pay upon delivery.

    - The invoice needs to be PAID IN FULL within 7 business days in order for them to ship my goods out of the USA.

    Isn't this extortion?

What stops them from not shipping my goods after I pay them? What stops them from adding extra charges? How can I get them to cancel the 'long carry' and 'stair carry' charges?

How can I legally and financially protect myself in my current situation? Will I need to travel back to the USA to get an attorney? Can I get my cousin in the USA to get an attorney on my behalf to avoid travel?

I will update this post as things develop. Thank you for reading this far.

tldr; Moving company added extra fees out of nowhere & demands payment in full before fulfilling any services, essentially holding my goods hostage.

How to petition a child custody agreement?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:05 PM PST

Hi, so I've been in a sticky situation recently with me and my brother finally confronting our dad on his abuse (we were so scared to ever say a word until recently), his gaslighting, and even using microphones and cameras to spy on us he . HE HAS A MICROPHONE IN THE BATHROOM!!! The mic isn't even the worst part, he has us working at the family business since I was 9 working non-stop (On his weekends) for up to 14 hours a day in 80 degree heat, even when I had a fever I was forced to work. He always would say that it wasn't child labor since he was paying us (Like 1$ to 2.50$ an hour) and that since we were family it can't be illegal. My parents have a child custody agreement that was made in either 2017 or 2018 that has us going over there every other weekend, however in light of everything that I mentioned we want to petition the courts to give our mom full custody. Our dad has tried many tactics to get us to go back over to his house (We have been refusing to go but I'm afraid he will file a lawsuit because thats the type of person he is.) These tactics include but are not limited to guilt tripping, bad mouthing, and a letter from his lawyer with fantastic quotes like "They are minors they don't get to make this decision." I get that is what the law says but is still a jackass thing to say. I also have screenshots of other stuff that he's sent me that I feel I could use. However I'm not sure I could even Petition the court where I live in (Maryland in the U.S.) Or if I could even do it at my age (15) and my brothers age (17) so I was wondering could I petition the court/how could I petition the court?

Creepy landlord caught spying on me and illegally entering my bedroom - what can I do?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:41 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

I am looking for some advice and thank you in advance for all of your help. For context I am a 23 M who rented a bedroom and bathroom in a 2 bed 2.5 bath condo. I just moved out and the landlord (~50 M) lived with me (CA)

This first started when he texted me about whether or not I have adhesive spray when I was back home and without permission he entered my room and searched my closet to grab it. I caught this on my motion sensor camera and was a little uncomfortable about it but let it go since he texted me he went in a day after.

Then creepier stuff happened like me and my girlfriend felt like we were always being watched/listened to. When we talked about his annoying tendencies when he was gone, he would be really mad when we saw him like he heard what we were saying. One time we were cooking in the kitchen and noticed the Alexa made a noise and turned on making circular blue motion. We discovered later that this was someone using the "tap in" feature to eavesdrop. This happened 2 or 3 times after.

I heard news that my family isn't doing well back at home and decided to leave and back home to help them out. When I told him about this he kept asking rudely intrusive/specific questions about the family member not doing well as if he didn't believe me. This is when things got bad.

In the last month of living here I felt like I was being harassed every day, He kept texting me to do/clean things on his time even though I had a full-time job. He would literally ask "can you do ____ right now?" My girlfriend and I went on a vacation and he somehow knew that I left for vacation and mentioned that I need to let him know when I'm gone just incase "my girlfriend gets kidnapped or something"??

Then he sends me a long ass crazy ex-like text about how I have been "putting off bad energy lately" and "absent from simple greetings and pleasantries" and to "please be normal again" when I have still been greeting him and have just been to myself since I have a lot going on back at home. He thought me hanging out with my friends, spending nights at my girlfriends place was somehow a "microaggession" against him and took it personally...

In the last week of me being there I caught him going into my room and bedroom multiple times on my motion sensor camera looking through all of my stuff without permission. He kept asking me to do things on his time and when I refused he would say "do you have a problem with that?" aggressively like he was going to do something to me. I felt so unsafe that I slept at my girlfriends house the entire week while he kept texting me everyday asking me to do something. When I was moving out he kept watching me and my girlfriend move. Literally moved his head as we passed by him with boxes. He kept telling me to "let him know an hour before I was leaving" but I didn't due to how unsafe I felt and just left without responding.

I have video and text evidence of everything he did, is there anything I can do legally about this? Please let me know and again, thank you in advance.

Can my wife show up after living elsewhere for 10 months and demand to stay at my house?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 06:28 PM PST

    Location: Indiana, USA.

Will try to keep this short. My wife moved out last March, a few weeks after moving into a new rental home. She was on the lease, after a couple months of her being gone my landlord gave me a new lease with just my name on it. Wife does not have a copy of the first lease. Without getting into irrelevant details, I realized recently that our marriage is not reconcilable. I plan to file the divorce petition in the morning, due to COVID rules the petition must be mailed to the court instead of delivered in person. She has already removed a lot of belongings from my house, and told me earlier that she plans to come here tomorrow to "have some fun with me", that she is staying the night, and she's gonna take more things out of the house. Can she do any of these things? What are my options, legally? I have plenty of evidence of threats she has made to murder me over the past couple months, should I file a restraining order? Would that make a difference since the hearing wouldn't be for at least a few days?

I'm being retaliated against by my clients daughter.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:30 PM PST

I've been working as a private caregiver for almost 2.5 years for an individual. 8 months ago she moved me into an apartment attached to her home . Her daughter was to draw up a contract regarding my employment, rental agreement, etc. And still hasn't done so. In addition, in that 2.5year period I have never received a pay raise, paid time off; sick, holiday or vacation time. And up until 6 weeks ago I was also watching her overnight 7 days a week. I was verbally promised all of those things by the daughter and when I raised the issue the other day and she flipped out. Told me that I was not getting any more money and she has half a mind to fire me and leave her mom alone to die already. She's been reported to APS already for saying such things about wanting her mom to die and being angry about her inheritance being wasted on her care. I'm unsure what I can do to safeguard my client and myself against such threatening behavior and what legal options I have to get my unpaid wages since a paper contract has never been made.?

    Employer threatening to withhold paycheck.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 12:17 PM PST

    I'm in Maine.

I recently sent my former boss a message to tell him I had been presented with an opportunity I couldn't pass up and wouldn't be able to return to my old job. He responded by implying that he wasn't going to send my paycheck.

There are quite a few examples of toxicity and abuse they've put me through, including the manager contracting Covid-19 and employees being told to lie about it.

I haven't responded to his implication yet, I'm waiting to see if they Direct Deposit my pay this Friday. What course of action should I take if they do not?

Online predator preyed on my teen but knows the law very very well. There's nothing the police/FBI/ICAC can do. Can I share his image and M.O. without legal ramifications? I want to warn others about him because he's serial.

    Posted: 01 Mar 2021 10:26 PM PST

    United States, here.

So in Jan I learned that a 38 year old man had groomed my now 18 year old daughter since she was 15 years old. They met online. He lied about his age because "he had a stalker." Everything that followed was textbook. He sent gifts, love-bombed her, isolated her from the family, flew across the country to sleep with her as soon as she turned 16 (legal age of consent) all culminating in him convincing her to fly to be with him a few hours after she turned 18.

I have Life360 on my kids' phones, monitor their web usage, have had open conversations about grooming, consent, etc etc. Stopped absolutely nothing.

At any rate, once the truth came out and I convinced her to come back home the realization that she'd been manipulated/taken advantage of by a creepy old man hit her like a brick and she was immediately suicidal, almost had to go to inpatient facility, and I'm on a leave of absence from work because she's in therapy twice a week and traumatized.

I've spoken to local law enforcement in both states, the Internet Crimes Against Children folks, and federal agents who have all told me that since she was 16, the legal age of consent, there is nothing any of us can do to stop him.

We later learned that the "stalker" he was avoiding was the family of another 16 year old girl he preyed upon.

What's especial absurd is that if he'd sent a dick pic, we could get him for sending obscene material to a minor.

So for anyone following, a near 40 year old can use predatory tactics and power dynamics (race, gender and age in our case) to have sex with someone young enough to be his child and that's legal and okay...but if he sent a pic of a butt, then we could have him arrested.

At any rate, dude's a creep. He's going to keep creeping. I can't press charges and neither can my child.

If I post his face and a warning anywhere online, can I be sued? I have his name, phone number and address too but I know doxxing is a potential legal minefield but what about "To Catch a Predator" - style outing?

Sister wants to sell our house but I don’t?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 01:59 PM PST

My sister and I own a house together and wants to sell our house recently because of the money we could make but I don't because rentals are super expensive right now and we bought our house a few years ago so our mortgage is low.

She paid my part of the mortgage for a few months a little while back because I was going through a rough time but I also paid all the down payment on our house because she didn't have that money and I have helped her with some rough times too.

Now she's going to a lawyer she says to try and force me to sell. She's saying she'll use the times she had to pay my part but I have proof of all other times I've paid her money here.

Would this even hold up in court, would I be forced to sell my part or what could happen here?

Now they want us to pay for the fraud amount because they have proof that Purchase was delivered to my address which we never received. We were away on vacation. We fought it twice already and it's like hitting a brick wall.

    Car troubles

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 07:53 AM PST

    Hello!

So I am in Ohio and I'm having issues with my mother in regards to a car. She purchased the car with a loan on her credit in order to give the car to me. The deal was that I follow an agreement and make the payments. Well, she is upset with me and demanded the car back from me. I gave it back because it is under her name and I don't want the police coming after me or anything.

I made all payments on time minus 1 and that was only a day late. I have also followed the agreement that her and I had. The only reason she is taking the car is because I pissed her off (I have since apologized). Is there any legal way I can get the car put under my name or is there any legal action I can take?

    Thank you

Was told my TN unemployment claim for 2020 was disqualified, and have to pay back everything. Will I have to pay back the stimulus bonus?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 02:13 PM PST

TLDR at the bottom if you don't want to read the circumstances. This is in Tennessee. Okay, so basically, I was laid off in mid-March 2020. In April they asked me to return, but due to my having severe asthma, I contacted my doctor and she recommended I stay home for my safety. A safer at home order was in place as well. I declined the offer and stayed on unemployment for the time being. Early June they offered me the position again. I decided against my best interests and accepted the offer, asking to return- to which they never answered! I stayed on unemployment until October 2020, continually looking for similar jobs but found none. I moved in October out of state so stopped claiming. Come to find out, my employer had been filing claims saying that I refused work. They were denied twice before I even knew this was happening. After the third denial they requested a hearing. I submitted my letter of confirmation of my layoff and the email showing where I responded to the second offer as evidence. The hearing took place December 2020. I thought the hearing went pretty well... until today. I got a notice saying they had decided I had "voluntarily left work" (not refused, quit!) due to "covid concerns". And I have to pay back my entire claim. I am going to appeal this of course, but in the event I lose for whatever reason... will I be paying back just my benefit amount, or stimulus bonus too? I've tried calling all their phone numbers and have been completely unable to get through to anyone, can't find any google articles regarding my circumstances, and can't afford a lawyer, so here I am.

TL;DR asked to pay back my entire 2020 unemployment benefit amount (8 months). Will I pay back just the benefit amount, or extra weekly stimulus unemployment bonus too?

Company asks me to fill a huge form for them to stop sneding me SMS

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 09:26 AM PST

A company has been sending me promotional SMS for a long time. I don't recall allowing this but I'd rather not go into that because I might have accepted something without having noticed.

I sent a message to this company on their website through the account I have on their website for them to stop sending me SMS and they replied one month later with a huge form for me to fill with more personal data like email, address, id card and etc. They say due to the new GDPR law I have to fill this form and then send it back to them.

Is this legal? I find this completely absurd. I never had this problem with any other company or website. Like how does this even make sense that I have to provide more data to them for them to delete it.

    Some help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Military Discrimination?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2021 05:07 AM PST

I worked at a large package delivery company for over 25 years as an operations manager when I deployed with the military in 2010/2011 with the Air National Guard. While deployed, I was asked to stay on and eventually managed a multi year project. I spoke with our HR department multiple times as they were fully aware of USSERA rights and "checked in" every couple years to ask if I planned to return after the project was complete. I assured them that I planned to return as the minimum retirement age was 55 as an active employee. As we approached the end of the 5 year USSERA timeline(questions about that) I informed them that I was ready to return to work. At first, things were moving along well but then complete silence. When I contacted my HR rep, she was extremely nasty and said I would be getting something in the mail. I received an early retirement option a few weeks later and was surprised at the reduction compared to what would have been provided had I worked the next 3 years to get to the 55 year mark. When I called the HR rep, she told me that my only option was to take the early retirement or buyout option, which I did. I have always felt that the company discriminated against me for being in the military and wanted to know if it is too late to move forward with any options?

Trying to understand why Walgreens just tried to charge over 4 times for a medicine covered by my insurance than what the same thing they have on shelf.

I was prescribed Prilosec. I went in to pharmacy it was sent to and immediately knew the price was wrong when they told me 198.97$ for a 90 day supply. After ascertaining that it was Prilosec 20mg extended release I walked over to the shelf and picked up the same exact stuff 24$ for a 42 day supply. Another thing is I was prescribed a month but they filled 90day. Just to be extra clear one is .51 per pill and the other $2.21 for same exact thing. I am not concerned out personal reasons(as my copay is near nothing) but I feel that my state is being overcharged by the insurance or something else obviously wrong is going on. Can someone explain what is going on.
