If a customer sends a wire transfer is it possible for them to revoke it after it's been sent? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:26 PM PST Should this be a cause of concern for me with my international customers? From my understanding with wire transfers you cannot even send money if you don't have sufficient funds so I'm not necessarily concerned about them sending insufficient funds ( although maybe that should be a cause of concern for me for international customers?) my bigger concern was once they have sent the money & it is in my bank account, is there a way for them to like try to get it back or something after they received their goods? Should I wait a certain number of days after the money has been in my account for me to send the goods to them? The goods are going through air freight so they would be in the arms of the customers within like 2 or 3 days and there's really no way for me to cancel it after it's been sent out I know this sounds far fetched but I'm always a little hesitant when it comes to international customers. I've sent and received money internationally, but only with Canada and Mexico so I feel comfortable with those places but I have never engaged in business with a country outside of those 2 and now that I'm branching out I'm talking to customers in other parts of the world, which is a little scary but I think I'm just being paranoid [link] [comments] |
Small Business Startup Home Mushroom Farm Help Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:33 AM PST Hi, I enjoy growing Oyster Mushrooms, Lion's Mane, Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms of all varieties and I would like to start a small business around selling medicinal tinctures and gourmet mushrooms to local restaurants and participation in local farmer's markets. What would I need to register this business? Would I be considered self-employed if this gets off the ground? I am in VA if that makes any difference, thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Mar 2021 12:52 PM PST Five years ago I opened a pet care service. After the first two years of hustle I'd finally gotten to a good point. Wasn't making me rich but gave me and my backup guy a good living and it was only gonna get better. Great business reputation. I'd even finally made it to the point where I was trying and for the most part succeeding to create a healthy work life balance. I really love what I do and I genuinely feel like I've made a difference. Unfortunately Covid came along. With no one traveling and everybody working from home my business fails 75%. Managed to get to 50% over the summer but things have been slow since then. I finished 2020 $5k in the hole. I'm back to working seven days a week. I'm just not sure it's worth it anymore. Maybe I should give up and be a corporate drone. I'm not totally out of money yet. But I don't feel comfortable going through much more of my savings. I don't know what to do. I've spent the past year listening to everyone saying "oh just give it six months." I'm not sure I have another six months. Not without going into debt. I'm just not sure with worth the fight anymore. When do you decide it's just a losing game? [link] [comments] |
wanting to start a small business....... idk where to start Posted: 07 Mar 2021 04:06 AM PST Ok so I want to start a candle business where half of the proceeds go to my local mental health center. Problem is.... I have no idea where to start or how to get the money to actually get it off the ground. I'm only 16, currently don't have a job of my own, but want to help and love making candles (I just don't have the supplies to make them for a business, I maybe have enough for one or two candles on hand). Help? [link] [comments] |

Looking for resellers to sell my hand made items. Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:15 PM PST Is there a good place to sell your homemade items for trade off Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok? Or is there any groups on these networks I should know about? Also, what is a typical margin for resellers in homemade craft items? I sell forged love hearts on Instagram & Facebook's Market Place and they are starting to build momentum. Any advice would be greatly welcomed and really appreciated. Kindest Regards Jono [link] [comments] |
Lookit for advice on starting a transportation business (Canada) Posted: 06 Mar 2021 07:54 PM PST Hi, I've been thinking about starting a small business driving people's cars for them when they move. I met a fellow years ago in the United States who did this and I'd like to do something similar up here. Because of covid-19 i obviously can't transport across the border or do any Alaska trips, as it's not considered essential. So for now just canadat wide. Small trips, big trips, doesn't matter until i build clientele and a name for myself with references. So I'm looking at building the website, payment could be taken via etransfer I guess would be easiest. Figuring out the numbers for rates to charge, insurance, driving times, cost of airfare to pick up the vehicle etc. The guy said the key is to be extremely professional, always be available via text or WhatsApp or whatever. So lots and lots of data. Just wondering if I need to have a sole proprietorship OR do I get a numbered company and incorporate? Also, when the borders eventually do open id love to offer cross border servicing. I do know the Alaska highway really well (I've lived in BC for years and drove that highway like a 100 times). The guy I met said it was quite busy in the summer, as boomers want their rv in alaska but not make the thousands of mile drive. I do also have a clean driving record and would like to start the process to either get a NEXUS card for quick border crossings or get something i like a fastpass. I'm not even sure if I could qualify for it, as I'm technically not a commercial driver? (Like a tractor trailer driver) Anyways, I really want to do this for a few reasons:. I like driving, I like being alone and I want to work for myself. I'm single and have no debts or obligations so it would be perfect for me to do these drives for thousands of miles. I do have a commercial license and air brakes & I used to drive commercially but it's too regulated. It's way too stressful. Just wondering if this is a good idea or the dumbest thing ever. Posted: 06 Mar 2021 08:59 PM PST I have been approached by someone who needs a different method to keep their sanity at a business they otherwise enjoy assisting at. They do not have a Reddit. When this person came into the business things like financials, etc. were handled by another person in the way that that person knew (that person didn't understand computers well, and the office records look like it's about 1980 or so, with a minimum of computer assistance. But they are logically organized, thankfully). After budget cuts, personnel cuts, etc. the person I'm writing on behalf of has had to take a larger role. They want this role to be more efficient, and include software and/or a database to do things. A computer is available for the database software, but nobody's certain what to obtain (as we have been advised building it within an office suite is not efficient). Helpful things to know:
What programs (database type programs, or otherwise) are out there to accomplish this? Anything? I have good knowledge from years ago, and I could probably build it in an office suite back then, but technology has come incredibly far and we'd like to leverage current options if possible. Additionally, I've been told by office suite folks that there are dedicated programs for this type of thing...but nobody knows what they are. Bonus options: If the program has a one-time purchase fee without a monthly charge, great! That's getting harder to find these days but sometimes I've seen it. Quite likely, even if the program required extra building, a one-time purchase fee would be pretty tempting. Second bonus: Not necessarily online-dependent. A good portion of the business happens away from the wi-fi cloud. Also helpful: Some sort of printing option of account history, so if the computer person goes on vacation for a week or two, folks without computer/program knowledge can run the business from the hard copies. Thank you for your time and thoughts! [link] [comments] |
Been a few months and no sales Posted: 07 Mar 2021 12:38 AM PST Lets get straight to the point. I'm 15 years old and I spent over $300 on my first website, created multiple ads I personally thought were good. After sacrificing many days not going out with friends, fitting in school work, competitive swimming and other sports daily and giving up video games altogether I thought I had the perfect 'productive' schedule. Seeing so many people make good revenue from ecom, I think I got blinded by the all so likely possibility that I can fail, that I can make no money and all this was in vain. And now I'm here. Several months of non stop watching and executing tips to no avail. Truly a difficult side hustle but I don't want to stop after all this effort. What should I do? Short term and long term. Should I stop this website and use my new found knowledge to make a new store or keep at it. Do you have any tips for me in general? Just some stupid ranting from a naive kid who thought this would've been easy. [link] [comments] |

Importing, Freight Forwarders, and Clearance Agents Posted: 07 Mar 2021 03:28 AM PST Hello, I've been ordering from Alibaba from a while but recently have started ramping up my inventory. My last 2 orders I paid for 9k in shipping and 6k in shipping, both were for door-to-door DDP prices. I chose DDP because I have no experience in logistics and this seems to simplify the process. I recognize that I may be costing myself money by not understanding the process and being able to shop around -- so maybe I should be getting FOB prices and figuring out how to do customs clearance and arranging pickup myself. 1) How does customs clearance work? 2) How do you "pick up" a shipment from a port? Can I get it myself, and if so, do they have any equipment there like pallet jacks to help load cargo, or would I need to hire somebody with one and/or rent one myself? 3) Now that I'm ordering from multiple vendors, would make any sense to have a shipping agent forward freight to other ports and ship them together? Or is that something that requires larger scale to matter, such as making sure every inch of your 40 ft container is filled? Especially in the last 6 months, it feels my price per kg has gone every single shipment. If the prices truly have gone up so be it, but until I learn how to shop around myself I'll always be suspicious that I'm overpaying and getting screwed by vendors ever escalating prices. Should I take over family business? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:51 PM PST My family started a window tinting business while I was still studying in school. Now with the pandemic and employment being scarce I been feeling pressured to manage the business even though it is not what I studied or am passionate about. Thinking practically, if it's reasonable to expect a comfortable living from the business it may be something I should pursue but also the idea of working with family and the strain it may put on relationships is not very keen to me. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
i want to start a business... help Posted: 07 Mar 2021 12:11 AM PST hey guys! i'll cut the sob story short, but basically my step dad left my mom and i flat on our @$$ in december for a girl young enough to be his daughter. money is extremely tight without his income because my mom works out of a truck stop. i'm still in high school and don't have my license or a vehicle so i can't get a job in person anywhere. my mom's struggling, and she's been doing that most of her life. she lives with chronic pain, and working long shifts makes it worse but she's been taking on 16-hour shifts any chance she gets. i really want to help her.i've enjoyed creating things since i was little. over the years i've done everything from making jewelry and keychains, to painting, to sculpting, and even a bit of hand-sewing. as time has progressed i've gotten better and better at these things and have broadened my trade to almost any branch i can access. i received multiple awards, commendations, and exclusive opportunities for my art in school. as small businesses have began to flourish due to tiktok, i've seen more promise in trying to sell my art than ever before.i believe my main products will be jewelry and keychains, but i may include some artwork or hand-sewn products here and there when available. i have faith in my work and believe this could really help my mom and i if i start this up correctly. my question to you all is: where do i go to begin? the three places i'd be most comfortable with selling from are etsy, depop, or possibly starting up my own site. here's a summary of my pros and cons for each one: •etsy- has fees, but popular among small businesses and will be easy to get customers through the search engine without necessarily needing to promote. •depop- again, has fees. less popular for small businesses selling my kind of product (depop is usually geared towards clothing), but still a very popular site in recent years. will also be easy to get customers through the search engine without necessarily needing to promote. •my own site: smaller-no fees, but i don't know the first thing about creating a website. will also need to promote my business more to get customers. which option, preferably based on your own experience, do you all believe would be most beneficial for me? thank you in advance. xx [link] [comments] |
Shipping perishable food items for small business Posted: 07 Mar 2021 12:08 AM PST Hi I'm launching a healthy chocolate covered strawberries + more healthy treats e-commerce small business and partnering with DoorDash and farmers markets hopefully for local delivery. The brand essence is chic luxury/organic farm girl cottage fresh (it makes more sense when you look at my mood board ☺️). I'm kind of obsessed with chocolate covered strawberries and eating healthy I haven't been able to find the type of treats I've wanted for a couple years now including with local vertical farmers utilizing hydroponic techniques that are a part of the organic food industry in my area so I thought why not launch ☺️🌻. I am wondering what the cost of shipping would be for perishable fruit packaging with dry ice if there is expansion and shipping is needed to different states. 🌸 [link] [comments] |

Any advice on getting funds to start a small business in New York? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:01 PM PST Any advice on getting angel money, SBL, grants etc in New York state? I'm 25, graduating this semester and am working on forming a cosmetic company with my business partners. We have roughly 20-25k in cash but need about 60-80k for a strong start. We are thinking about kickstarter as well but we also want to stay away from your typical venture capital investors at the moment. Im polish-american, one is Korean, one Japanese and one Turkish if that helps at all. [link] [comments] |
Can you get two ppp loans at the same time? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:44 PM PST So my partner and i are about to get approved for a ppp loan from womply. Square also said we can apply for a ppp loan with them. Can i apply for two ppp loans from two lenders? [link] [comments] |
Why aren't more people buying from me? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:59 AM PST Hey guys so i started a handmade soap business last year just before the beginning of lockdowns. I sell my items off instagram since I live outside the US and this is something almost every online business does here. I live in the Caribbean. At first I would get a few sales a month and some months no sales at all. I must admit, I wasn't very consistent at first but i have been more consistent within the last few months. I have a few loyal customers. However, my number of sales haven't risen by much and it's getting a little frustrating and demotivating. At first, I accredited this to my soaps being boring and there not being a huge market. However, I totally upped my soap game and I'm doing a technique I've never seen done before so my soaps are much more fun. I follow other Soapmakers in my community and they appear to be doing well so there must be a market. So I'm wondering what am I doing wrong and what can I do? Any advice is greatly appreciated Just a tad bit more info: I starred selling other handmade products and I do do gift boxes. I make soaps for people who can't tolerate fragrances and colour as well as soaps for people who. I have just under 800 followers atm. I post my items and people message to purchase and choose a delivery option. Edit: I'm not sure if this is important but I'm 18 f. [link] [comments] |
Any tech businesses/startup employers here? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 09:21 PM PST |
Posted: 06 Mar 2021 08:47 PM PST I launched an e-commerce business two months ago and have been trying everything I could to get more customers. So far, nothing. I gave out free products to my friends to promote on their ig stories. That brought views to website and Instagram but nothing more. I had a couple of friends that made purchases. But not "strangers" if you understand what I'm saying. I joined multiple Facebook groups and tried to advertise on there. I promoted on my personal Facebook and Instagram page. I even made a post on here. (This actually led me to being banned for a couple days lol my post was reported as spam..) I ran Facebook ads but was unsuccessful. I promoted a couple of my Instagram posts and that led to lots of views but no purchases were made. It's so sad to see such a high reach but none turning into customers. Could anyone help me identify what I'm possibly doing wrong? Any sort of advice would be helpful. I'm trying my hardest not to lose hope. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 06 Mar 2021 11:33 AM PST I have a problem I can't quite figure out. I just finally created my small business (gym wear company) after a few months of working on it/creating a brand. I have been up and going for about 3 weeks and have sold around only 30 t-shirts. I make about 16-20$ profit per shirt, 18$ average. I also sell crewnecks I make about 30$ profit on. I have sold about 10 of those. I feel accomplished. It's getting some attention around all the gyms in my town. More and more people are finding out about it. I have probably spent 200-250 hours on it and spent around 1400$ out of pocket for various supplies and have reinvested all the money I have made. Probably somewhere around 800$ This is where my problem is. One of my good friends, basically a brother to me, wanted to join in on the company. I know lots of people say partnerships don't work but I felt the extra money and another lifetime employee would make my production and progress grow at a much quicker rate. Especially him being so close to me. I obviously don't want to give up anything more than 49% and he knows that too. What should I value my business at. Do I include all the hours I put into creating it at the start? Any advice helps. Thanks [link] [comments] |
How many people actually use zoho? Internship related questions Posted: 06 Mar 2021 08:15 PM PST So I'm a first year cs major and recently got in touch with a person who has a business about tailoring zoho tools according to customer needs. He said he'd first teach me all about zoho and stuff, then I could even get to work on client projects. Now I'm hearing about zoho for the first time, and wanted to know if it's worth getting into, if people use it and stuff [link] [comments] |
Can I open a personal checking account while waiting for my EIN? Posted: 06 Mar 2021 10:24 AM PST Hi everyone, I'm launching a business and just finished a successful Kickstarter raising over $10,000. However, I have just started the process of incorporation and am waiting on the state to get back with the papers. In the meantime, would it be okay to open a personal checking account to handle the Kickstarter money and all other expenses, and then transfer the amount into a business account once I get my EIN? Thanks! EDIT: This new personal account would just "house" the Kickstarter funds until I am ready to open a business bank account. [link] [comments] |
