How to pay yourself? small business

    How to pay yourself?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 01:53 PM PST

Ok I know this might seem strange or dumb, but as a single-member LLC, on paper it says I made $14k last year (strictly income - expenses) but in reality I feel like that is not true at all.

Beside where the money actually is (I guess stuck in inventory and other places?) how do you even approach paying yourself as a single-member LLC? I am speaking with a CPA next week already where this will be more formally addressed but I would love to know some thoughts on this.

Question about google’s new cookie rules

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:28 AM PST

Hello! I thought this would be the best place to ask this.

I am somewhat tech savvy but I want to confirm if I am understanding this correctly. I saw that google is going to phase out third-party cookies from their browsers. I have an advertising campaign that, in part, will show my ads to people if they've been to my website. This is the type of tracking that google will be phasing out, correct?

Where do you start with a business plan on a completely new career?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:45 AM PST

I have recently gained my first CeMAP qualification in the UK (Mortgage advice). I have a friend who is a fully qualified IFA and he has gotten me access to his advisor network. His mortgage manager has asked me to put together a business proposal on where I will get clients from, how I will keep the business in the black, information about myself etc. He is aware I have never worked in the industry before so that wont be a surprise to him, but I have never had to write a business proposal before, and all of the examples online are written as if there is a product to sell with an RRP, whereas I do not have that information as every Mortgage commission is different.

The proposal doesn't need to speak of making fortunes, they just want to prove I wont get into debt if I follow my plan.

    Any advice would be great.

    Thanks

    Partnership transition to single owner

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 04:26 AM PST

Can a 50/50 partnership formed as an LLC simply transition to a single member LLC after one partner decides to leave? Amicable break up, departing partner just didn't have the time to put in. Remaining partner is continuing the business on her own.

Who is a reliable person to talk to about concrete plans to open a music related business?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 03:42 AM PST

Hey I'm looking into the logistics of starting a business that incorporates music lessons, adaptive music lessons, and music therapy. Who, if anyone, could I talk to about this? I want to talk about marketing, location, business loans, general amount of time before making back the money I put out. I was reading that I should talk to a mentor. What kind of person qualifies as a mentor? A lawyer? An accountant? Does anyone else here own a music business?

Can I apply for the second draw PPP again?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 08:05 PM PST

(Writing on behalf of my parents' business)

I received the first draw PPP loan from a local bank (forgiven), and I decided to try out Biz2credit for the second draw PPP. My application has been "Submitted to SBA" for several weeks now with no updates.

My local bank sent out an updated form for the second draw PPP loan; is it okay for me to apply again through my local bank? I'm afraid I won't get a loan through Biz2credit.

If you are an influencer marketing expert, or you have worked with influencers as a brand, you are more than welcome to help me with this survey. The survey will contain general questions about influencer marketing strategy and influencer marketing campaigns. Additionally, the last questions will be focused on a prototype that I created about an influencer marketing campaign for a specific brand.

All the answer will be anonymous.

Thank you for the time in answering this survey. It will take about 5-10 minutes. The results will help me in achieving the best results for my thesis.

What do you all do with retained earnings?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 11:34 AM PST

We've turned a profit for a few years and now have quite a bit of cash sitting in the bank doing... nothing. What do you all do when this happens? Do you buy treasuries, CDs, etc? Not looking for anything risky, but it feels silly to just let the money sit there without accruing interest or getting some small returns, especially if that cash won't be used for the year. Any help much appreciated!

Got pushed into doing freelance work due to the pandemic, made a good bit of money, and now I'm woefully unprepared for the taxes.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 10:54 AM PST

My name's Jonathan. I'm a student studying web design in Texas, and when the pandemic hit hard, my job position at the uni was dissolved. Unemployment couldn't cover rent so I began freelancing. I ended up making just over $3000 in website work. I've set aside about 40% for taxes, but I have no idea what paperwork I need to file. I've only ever used Turbotax before, but I really don't want to pay a premium to end up paying money to the IRS. What steps should I take to educate myself on taxes, and what paperwork am I likely going to have to file? I apologize if this seems like hand holding, I feel like I got tossed in the deep end.

What's a good business credit card look like? What do banks consider when you're applying for one?

    Posted: 04 Mar 2021 12:04 AM PST

I'm about to incorporate soon and need a small sum of money to get things rolling, about five to ten thousand dollars. Small business loans are extremely complex to get, so it seems the next best thing is a business credit card.

So I'm wondering, what's a reasonable business credit card look like? Interest rates and spending limit? And what kind of things do banks look at when you're applying? It's an easy (relatively speaking) job, and there's a hot market for it, but I have no experience doing it... or an experience at all for that matter.

With the right business plan, could I convince a bank to give my LLC a business credit card?

If that doesn't seem like the way to go, how else could I raise seed money?

SBA Has Released New Borrower Application Form for Schedule C Filers Using Gross Income for PPP Loan

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 03:05 PM PST

The Small Business Administration on Wednesday released a new application and loan calculation formula for Paycheck Protection Program loans for self-employed and gig workers.

For these small businesses, it will mean larger forgivable loan amounts going forward.

The new PPP application for self-employed workers and sole proprietors who file IRS Form 1040 Schedule C now asks for the total amount of gross income, found on line 7 of the tax form. Previously, Schedule C filers applying for PPP loans were asked to give the SBA their net profit, from line 31 on the form.

In addition, the SBA released updated guidelines for lenders on calculating loan amounts for Schedule C filers and new eligibility rules for borrowers, including those who had struggled with student loan debt, had non-fraud felony convictions or were non-citizen business owners.

Here is the updated application form from the SBA:

How to keep records for independent contractors paid through a company like freelancer.com?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 11:09 PM PST

I am just starting a Single Member LLC and am contracting out several months of work through freelancer.com. Does anyone have any experience with bookkeeping for this type of expense and whether or not a 1099 is required? Another difficulty is the contracted company is based in a foreign country. At the end of the day, the bill expensed to my account is from freelancer.com.

Complete newbie here, I appreciate any help.

    Connecting Square with Quickbooks

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 12:38 PM PST

We just bought an existing small business and we have lots of experience with different point of sale systems and with Quickbooks. This is the first time we have used square as our main point of sale and I would like to connect it to Quickbooks so that our daily sales information is automatically imported from Square into Quickbooks. It seems straight forward but I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips/tricks, advice or recommendations regarding this.

FYI were a small coffee shop and we're using Quickbooks Online.

2020 hasn't been kind to most people. Personally I'm dealing with my first financial loss and questioning my businesses future after 13years of building a business from the group up.

I'm optimistic and working my tail off to turn this ship around but could use some kind words. Maybe a story or two of how y'all bounced back from the brink of despair?

A few questions from a prospective small business owner

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 04:46 PM PST

I've been a professional software engineer for ~4 years and am interested in generating some income on the side through creating some SaaS projects.

The difficulty of that goal aside, once projects start making money and it comes time to pay myself, pay taxes, etc., it all gets very fuzzy.

Would I need to register a legal entity like an LLC to even start receiving payments? What if I wanted to create multiple applications, all unique to themselves, would I have to register an LLC for each, or can I create a "umbrella", or "catch all" that all the applications I develop can fall under?

Sorry for the complete noob question!

    Succession planning

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 08:31 PM PST

Hi all, my mom is a rural small animal veterinarian (US) with a practice built over 20 years. She's about 10 years from retirement and has no idea what to do with the business. The ideal situation is to bring in a younger veterinarian with the right work ethic and slowly transition the practice into their care upon my moms retirement. On paper that sounds great. In practice not so much. She's tried to start the transition process with a few different staff who all left for varying reasons. Do you have any advice/ strategies for how to approach this? Or how to retain key employees?

I work in a small shop and had a customer trick me into entering a CC manually for a very large order.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 02:08 PM PST

For some reason I just got very nervous and fell for the bullshit. Will the store I work at be held responsible for this charge? He showed me his card on Apple Pay and matched with his ID but we don't have Apple Pay so he basically asked to put it in manually. For some idiotic reason I let him.

US business bank account to use to register and fund online stock broker account

    Posted: 03 Mar 2021 07:43 PM PST

I am based in Japan and currently running ecommerce businesses that caters to US market. I also plan to expand thats why I am thinking to register an LLC and get EIN, SSN so that I can maximize my ecommerce opportunities because some platform require those. I am thinking in delaware (any other recommended states?) and then bank account would be Mercury (whenever i search and watch different youtube videos, i always see this, though i understand because they have referral benefits - if you know any other possible bank, pls let me know)

so once ive done my registration, could i use this info to open an account in an online broker? choices are: webull, robinhood and firstrade.

if business bank account is not possible, where can i get personal real us bank account? (because paypal, transferwise and payoneer are not an option to fund an online stock broker) thank u in advance
