Posted: 25 Feb 2021 03:12 AM PST I know I have those limiting beliefs, and it's hard to go beyond them and to change them (I cannot snap fingers and DECIDE that I want to like capitalism or to change my beliefs and values, even though I can gradually lie to myself). Does anyone here had the same problem and manage to overcome it? Do you just live with a contraction, and live by the quote "when in rome, do as the romans do"? Is unchained egoism some sort of a solution? [link] [comments] |
10 tips to mastering calls with your first customers Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:03 AM PST Sales calls aren't easy but with preparation and training, they are an invaluable skill any entrepreneur can master. For anybody trying to master this "art", I'm sharing 10 tips to use in calls with interested potential customers. This process is a result of several iterations over hundreds of calls my co-founders and I have taken in the past. We distilled best practices and insights into what we've seen produce great results with interested potential customers: 1. Approach inbound calls with the same seriousness as cold callsInterested prospects are great, but the job is only half done. 2. Make a great first impressionThe first call is one of the most important stages in a sales funnel, simply because it's a unique opportunity to make a great first impression. Interested prospects are usually evaluating other tools so you need to deliver more (and better) than your competitors. 3. Take 5-10min to learn about the company and the prospectCollect information about: team size, fundraising, recent news, interests in common, etc. LinkedIn is probably the best source for this information and it will trigger a notification when you visit the prospect's profile! 4. Start the call by building rapportAfter setting a nice tone, make it all about them. I often get surprised by the amount of information prospects share when I ask open-ended questions. Example: 5. Listen more than you talkThe time you spend talking on a sales call impacts your chance to close the deal. Top sales performers are known for consistently letting their prospects talk about 60% of the time so it's your prospect who should be talking the most, not you. 6. Make sure your research is well informedTry to get answers to your questions and have your prospects verbalized their pain points before you start pitching. 7. Know when to give your pitchOnce both of you have acknowledged your prospect's pain points on tip #4, give your prospect an adapted pitch about how your product solves their specific issue. 8. Don't try to oversell to unqualified leadsIf you don't find good arguments to make your product useful to a specific use case, maybe it's because it doesn't qualify as a potential user. Acknowledge this and avoid wasting your time trying to sell. Instead, focus on creating a meaningful connection (they might be a buyer in the future when they move to another company or when the company's processes change). 9. Have well defined next stepsWhen you see you only have 5 more minutes in your calendar, you should schedule the next meeting step before you finish the call and your prospect has to leave unexpectedly. 10. Use this cheat sheet for your first 100 callsSales is not an art. The best sales entrepreneur is the one who studies the company, listens to the customer and is able to leverage his preparation. In my best sales calls, I was fully prepared with this cheat sheet. -------- I regularly share insights with fellow redditors on this sub and twitter. Stay tuned and feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Happy to help! [link] [comments] |
Growing online clothing business Posted: 25 Feb 2021 10:45 AM PST So I run a small online business (selling vintage clothes). It started as a side hustle and now it is more like my part-time job. I store my items in my flat (currently have over 700 items). I have space for roughly 600-700 more items. I currently make £2k-£2.5k a month in sales (~1-1.5k profit). In order for me to grow i need more space for items and photography kit, backdrop etc. Ive done some research and I came to the realisation that i cannot afford to rent warehouse or industrial unit (even the ones that go for 500-600 a month are too expensive for me at this point). Some people have suggested self-storage units which cost around 150-200 a month. Im not sure what to do. Self-Storage units are relatively small (150-200sq ft) and that would allow me to store roughly 2-3k items. The thing is that I was looking for a space to fit all of my photography equipment as well as I'm tired of taking photos at home. What are my options? At this point Im not sure if its worth running the business since its impossible to scale up without any extra expenses. [link] [comments] |
Is influencer marketing currently one of the strongest promotional tactics? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 02:17 PM PST It seems like one of the must use marketing tactics is influencer marketing(tiny 30k followers to large social media stars). Is the general idea to try to get traction with influencers, whether that is tiny or large instagram accounts, or tiny or large websites? Is influencer marketing one of the things to go for?(and then using digital marketing, and trying to get the product into online stores). [link] [comments] |
As a young starter I have a question Posted: 24 Feb 2021 10:01 PM PST I'm an older teenager and in the future I want to create a business. I have researched and some of the guides say to surround yourself with other entrepreneurs, but there are very little my age, or that would take a teenager seriously. How would I get I come across a mentor that would be willing to teach a random teenager? [link] [comments] |

Developing an Effective Social Media Strategy Posted: 25 Feb 2021 04:28 AM PST Social Media has changed a lot since it first started gaining popularity as a Marketing Tool. Unfortunately, we can't post a picture and hope for the best anymore. To truly reap the benefits of Social Media for your business, you need to have an effective strategy. In today's blog post, we're going to help you create an effective strategy to grow your business online using Social Media. Set realistic, measurable goals: It is vital that you set realistic goals for your Social Media platforms to help you develop a plan. However, it is also very important that you focus on the right goals and not get caught up with 'Vanity Metrics', such as the number of likes and followers you have. Instead, you should focus on valuable metrics that will benefit you and help achieve your objectives. Some important ones you should focus on are:
Know your audience inside and out: Knowing your audience is a huge part of developing your social media strategy. Without understanding who you are aiming your content towards, you will surely miss. Truly understanding your ideal audience, putting out content that resonates with them , and placing yourself on the right platforms will get you noticed quickly by the right people. You need to offer valuable content consistently across your Social Media platforms to not only be seen but also encourage customers to come back. Focus on being genuine and unique always! Set out a plan to achieve your goals: Goals should always be "S.M.A.R.T": Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. We recommend using the following metrics:
The above measures can be tracked via analytics for any of the major social media platforms. Then you can visually see what type of posts, platforms, and content work for your business. Focusing on these areas can help you set specific numerical targets to work towards. Create effective content: The most important thing to remember when creating any type of content is that it must bring value to your audience. You need to focus on the five main content pillars; Motivational, Relatable, Educational, Entertaining & Promotional. All of your content should come under these titles. Top Tip: For every promotional post you publish, you should share two other forms of content. If you struggle to create content, we have a blog post here to help! Assessments: You should be continually assessing what is working, what isn't, and how to keep improving. Continuously adapting is key to an effective Social Media Strategy. Ensure you change things when they aren't working. Does an afternoon post get more engagement than a morning post? Is that inspirational quote you are posting once a week gaining you new leads? Do this every week to really determine what content your audience wants to see from you. Your strategy is going to be a lot of trial and error but monitoring it in real-time allows you to make small tweaks that will have a big benefit in the future. [link] [comments] |

How to find an investor in a niche market? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:44 AM PST Hi all, I initially posted in a r/Entrepreneurship but that sub seems a bit quiet. I am starting a business dedicated to something I have always wanted to do: design and sell tabletop wargames. After getting a "real job" and pushing my career forward to the point where I feel like I have proven myself in my industry, etc, I finally feel like I have the freedom to explore my creative passions and I figure I might as well make an attempt at my wildest childhood dreams. I have a stable career as an in demand professional to fall back on, so now seems like a good time. That said, things are going to be very slow going at my current rate of investment. I don't have that much cash to spare, and I am quickly finding out how expensive things like patents, trademarks, marketing, etc can be. So if I were to look for an investor, how would I do so? It seems like most investors are interested in things with wide appeal and my business will have a fairly small market. There IS a growing market for it, but I have no dellusions of becoming the next hot IPO, etc. I would be thrilled if this thing just let me quit my job and do something related to my passion, even if I simply maintain my current standard of living. Are there investors out there who would appreciate this niche market and be willing to invest, given I have a solid product etc? [link] [comments] |
Re: Startup Acquisition Question, Tax Implication??? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 11:21 AM PST Hello Everyone, I'm in the middle of finalizing an acquisition. I have a specific question regarding tax implications related to the conversion of convertible notes to corporate stock prior to the acquisition. According to US tax code §108(8), it is possible for a company to discharge indebtedness by a transfer of corporate stock but the company can only reduce its gross income up to the "fair market value" of that stock. Question: Because the stock value of "the startup" is worth less than the adjusted issue price of the debt (ie cash borrowed by "the startup"), then under Sec. 108(e)(8) "the startup" would have to recognize the value of the convertible notes in cancellation of debt income in FY21. I was wondering if anyone has an idea on how to avoid this "income from the discharge of indebtedness" and therefore avoid tax liability for the acquirer? [link] [comments] |

Why Starting a Business Is Not for You Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:01 PM PST Starting a business has become somewhat of the go to dream in our generation. If those before us always wanted to have job stability and security, it's freedom and the ability to be our own boss that our generation wants. The regular 9-5 job is being engrained in people's heads and starting your own business can seem like the only possible choice to escape a meaningless life of always working for someone else all day, every day. However, in our time the world of ecommerce is skyrocketing and it's incredibly easy to find tons of information on how to start a business by yourself. With more and more people looking into making money online and running their own business, only a small percentage of them go on to become successful. Why? Because it's not as easy as many make it to be. The initial momentum that gives that motivation can just very easily end abruptly my the first roadblock found on the way. The fear of starting is real and is even more so fueled by a need to be perfect. But perfection never arrives, instead, it buries itself deep within the mindset and only makes things worse. And if the fear of starting won't get you, then the first failure will. Now you might say no way you're going to fail, but chances are, the first thing you venture into will fail. And it's ok, it's nothing to worry about, it's all part of the process. The only way this would stop you from achieving success is if you actually stop doing anything else after that. These are the ways that can block you from becoming successful and they have taken many with them along the way, so be sure to check out my video for the whole idea that I put behind it [link] [comments] |
Monetizing my cold emailing method Posted: 25 Feb 2021 08:00 AM PST Hi guys, I'm looking for some advice. For about a year now I've been going down a rabbit hole of cold emailing. I had a friend who got me into trying a particular method that was pretty decent, but over the last year or so I've gone about creating an entire process that includes:
It's a pretty bootleg method, but I continually see cold email SaaS that charges a whole bunch per month and looks pretty and all but doesn't really allow you to do what you really want to do when cold emailing—send a boatload of emails at once to relevant prospects. Some also charge craaazy amounts for finding the emails of prospects ($99/mo for finding 1000 emails). I'm wanting to monetize this method of mine, but I'm not sure what the best way to do so is. I'm thinking of going down the route of charging people just a fixed cost for me to share everything and help them set it up, or perhaps a fixed cost for even just singular campaigns? Recurring would obviously be more ideal but I don't think it is legal to say use scraping software behind the scenes within a SaaS I claim to be mine right? I don't think I would want to do that. Looking for suggestions of any sort. Any advice on this would be much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Feb 2021 07:29 AM PST Every day, thousands of potential prospects show intent for a given topic when they attend a specific event. This opens a great opportunity for any entrepreneur trying to find new potential customers online. But Why use event attendees to generate new opportunities? People attending conferences are more likely to have decision-making power over the topic they are curious about. More, if they are investing time and money in it, they're signaling this is also a relevant topic to them right now. It's like speed networking on steroids, but with the most relevant audience for your business. ----- The trick is usually how to find who is attending the events. A few years ago, the most common way to find who was attending an event was to personally attend that event. This seems logical. Until all events went online. Luckily for us, there are a few tricks one can use to find these attendees. For instance, LinkedIn events and Google searches can be quite powerful.
The next step is to create a relevant message that leverages this data point. The first sentence will be crucial to grabbing the attention of the readers. Leverage the topic that was mentioned in the event and use that to create a message that sounds personal and personalized to the prospect. > I have compiled a few more strategies and detailed examples of outreach messages. Feel free to check it out, it's also a full guide containing all the steps to do this strategy at scale. ------- You'll hardly find a better opportunity to start a new conversation with someone that is in the same mindset as you, meeting new people and exploring new solutions for their challenges... We hope you've found this useful! I wish you Good luck! I'm here to discuss anything about growth, startups, and sales. Happy to help if you have any questions! [link] [comments] |

What is my next logical step? New to this. Posted: 25 Feb 2021 07:12 AM PST Hi, I have come up with an idea for a new lawn game of sorts...I have had a friend sketch the idea for me so we roughly know how we want it to look/function but now not sure what should we do next. So here are a few questions I was hoping someone with more experience could help with. 1) Would a provisional patent be the next step before we have someone attempt to prototype it? How do I even figure out if my idea is patentable? 2) When finding someone to prototype it, will they be the ones trying different materials to see what material to make it out of/would work better or do I need to find materials that will be used before sending it off to get prototyped? 3) What would my next logical step be? Thanks in advance for any help. [link] [comments] |
How do you feel about Protectionism ? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:44 AM PST I was re-reading an old article of mine (https://www.thepourquoipas.com/post/entrepreneurship-in-europe), and realised that I'd never asked fellow entrepreneurs what they thought about it. Do you prefer the government to help your start-up or do you want to always go at it alone ? [link] [comments] |
What's a print-on-demand I can use for booklets? Posted: 25 Feb 2021 12:10 AM PST I provide coaching services, and whenever I have a new client, I send them a PDF with a bunch of info. However, I recently had the idea that it might be more professional to actually send them a physical booklet with the info. The idea would be a company that makes those and can send them directly to my client. Of course just printing 1 booklet at the time isn't very efficient and thus expensive, but since booklets are crazy cheap to begin with, it's something I'm ok with. Problem is, I can't find this service at all. All of them require that I have X units. And obviously my client only needs 1. The only solution would be to have several sent me to, and them I would send them individually myself, but I want to avoid the hassle and have it done for me. [link] [comments] |

I read 500 books in 1000 days and here's what I learned. Posted: 25 Feb 2021 07:56 AM PST Between the brewing company, the coffee company, the anti-aging cream company, the keto bar company and a tech start-up company, I somehow find the time to read books. A lot of books. And writing books too, but that's another topic. I hear you: Oh, it's impossible, how can you find the time to do all of that? I don't find time. I make time. Well – okay, maybe I was gifted with a sort of supernatural intelligence, but I like to believe that I'm a simple man that simply stayed on the path of Excellence (thanks Jocko and Jordan) and avoided the traps of the 20s. Reading that many books requires unabashed disciple, that's for sure. But it's really only 3 hours a day, for 1000 days. 3 hours a day is the time I need to read a book cover to cover. 3 hours, it's also 12x15 minutes. Or 6x30 minutes. I had a lot of time back in the days of operating heavy machinery to listen to audiobooks or to simply open my kindle app on my iPhone and read for 5 minutes whenever I had the chance. I did this self-imposed challenged from early July 2016 to late March 2019. That's when I did 500 books in 1000 days. I'm on a new challenge for now: 5 music albums by 30 years old. Even with my crazy work schedule, I'm still finding time to read a book per week. I can't do one every other day, unfortunately…! SLACKING. And so, what the hell did I learn? /// I learned to die wise. Which translated itself into living wisely. I learned to love better. I learned how to grief. I learned how to surf on the eddies of cosmic uncertainties and be okay with the mystery of it all. I learned how to embrace the suck. How to push through the wall of weaknesses and failures. To climb my own existential crisis and reunite myself with the All. I've learned how to establish myself as a man. To strengthen the nobility of character. To conjure the spell of my demise to the finality of my soul and casting a bright eternal future over the horizon. I learned that true success in life is to make other people see the brilliant horizon standing above the offings of their dark ocean of existential fear and encourage them to build a raft so that they can row towards brighter days. I learned how to light up the heap of the deadwood and let it go. How to heal. How to nurture my soul. I learned to pick up my cross. How to eat well, how to make my bed, how to read people. I learned to establish myself as a man in this society. I learned that one should never trust the government, and be wary when the government is claiming to care about your health. I learned that it's better to be alone –single– than being with a broken individual in a relationship. I learned how to thrive in the game of life. I learned that I know so little about the universe and life. I learned my why. I discovered it. He who has a why can take over the world. He who has knowledge has self-love, and who has self-love has discipline, and he who has discipline has knowledge. I learned that there is no should in this clusterfuck. And I learned as to why one has to keep on dancing after the music stops – after the firmament closes for a final time and the arc of life goes full circle, after the starry sky closes down with tears of pain for the things that could have been or should have been. It's actually right there at the edge of the firmament that I learned to sit down with my higher self and pause for a bit. It's at that place –a place that is placelessness– that I discovered what immunity of the soul is and that's what brings infinity of the One to one's existence. It is through this cosmic energy that one can feel home again. I learned that we are energy bundles vibrating through the Many Worlds. I learned that this too, might not be accurate. Still a label. Still a box. Oh! I still have so much to learn! How to slow down. How to listen better. How to love deeper. How to die wiser, once again. How to live life fuller. How to dance freer. I could spend more time writing –feeling inspired this morning– but it's time for me to go to work. Till next time, J. [link] [comments] |
Tai Lopez. The man that changed my life. Posted: 25 Feb 2021 09:30 AM PST Remember that little lambo video? The "THE MORE YOU LEARN, THE MORE YOU EARN." Well, it was true. Tai Lopez made me wealthy beyond imagination. Why? Cause I read. I applied what I read. Covid-19 changed my plan of buying a coffee farm in Brazil or living in Mongolia, but yo, I'm okay. I'm at a good spot. I'm satisfied. And yes – Tai might have been a scam, but it doesn't matter. His video that he promoted like a madman on Youtube changed everything for me. I saw it about 2000 times in 2015. It was everywhere. And I'm glad it was. The more you learn, the more you earn. Don't forget that one. [link] [comments] |
