What can I do to improve? Crushing it one month, tanking then next. Sales and Selling

What can I do to improve? Crushing it one month, tanking then next.

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 07:49 AM PST

October I had 9 sales and hit quota, November I had 4 sales and totally missed while in December I was at 10 sales and just missed by $100.

This has been my story for the year. Been in sales now for 2.5 years, I'm an AE at a SAAS company.

My close rate is about 27%, my biggest struggle is rebuttals and I have learned that industry knowledge is a game changer for objections. Aside from rebuttals, anything else I should consider? Maybe just a crazy fat pipeline? Or when do I decide that sales isn't for me?

Need a 2021 Reset - How Do You Re-Charge and Get Your Head Back in Sales Mode??

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:37 AM PST

This year in general has been tough (going from 70% outside sales to basically 0% outside sales, and 100% inside sales).

And, I would say since the election, my mental energy and productivity has hit the floor. Couple that with holidays and everything else, I feel like the end of 2020 I completely hit a wall.

I had the last 2 weeks of 2020 off, and decided to head up to the mountains to ski (my favorite winter time hobby). Thought that would clear my head and bring me into 2021 feeling fresh and re-charged. But this week I have felt anything but.

This weekend I want to just relax, maybe listen to a sales podcast or read a sales book.

Anyone else feeling like this, and how did you reset yourself back into work mode?

Don’t call your customers 5x in a day

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 12:01 PM PST

I can't believe I have to say this but here I am.

A client reached out to us yesterday because while they were about to sign with a competitor and the contract was out; the competitor began to call them 5x a day until the client signed. The client was so turned off by the sales approach that they began to contact other vendors and shop around.

Tl;dr: poor sales tactics will cause your would be customers move forward with someone else instead.

    Commercial Print/commodity

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:07 AM PST

Anybody have experience selling commercial print or even any kind of commodity? I'm a BDR for a rather large print provider in the digital/offset space, and I'd love to hear any opinions or advice. I'm on a skid so anything helps, even insults.

    Software/system for objection handling?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 10:58 AM PST

I'm trying to compile objection handling responses to help reps. I need to use a system that:
-Encourages collaboration, not too much bureaucracy
-But encourages some vetting of answers (don't want wrong advice posted)
-Easy to look up different kinds of objections

What do you all typically see used this? A google doc? spreadsheet? Is there some software specialized for this purpose?

What is a typical difference between inside and outside sales base?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:48 AM PST

I just had a phone interview for an outside sales position. My current role is inside sales and I've been doing it for 8 years- my pay was just recently increased to 48k base when I was at 43k. But I started around 38k when I went into sales. I live in western Ny, so not in any major city like nyc.

The interviewer asked what I expected for base and I said 65k minimum. I know in my business there is a fairly large gap between inside and outside sales. Like I know the Chicago outside rep who has been here for 5 years makes 71k base. An inside rep that covered Boston area also moved to outside sales for a 65k base. Outside reps also have higher commission.

I'm wondering if this sounds typical to anyone else? I also really wouldn't want to take this job for any less due to the size of the territory and eventually needing to travel. So I've told myself 65 at least or turn it down and look elsewhere (which I've had my eye recently on SaaS sales since they all seem to be remote positions with little travel which is what I want- not to mention wayyyy more money.) though staying in my current company has its benefits like keeping my vacation etc. though I would need to figure out a car situation eventually when travel gets back to normal (if it ever does go back to full normal)- my current car is not one that I should be putting many miles on.

    Expensify CEO Email - Revisited

    Posted: 07 Jan 2021 02:11 PM PST

Just before the US Election in November, Expensify's CEO sent out a controversial email that a lot of folks on this sub had very strong feelings about one way or another. I'm curious after yesterday has anyone's view changed?

    Here is the email: https://community.expensify.com/discussion/7632/protect-democracy-vote-for-biden

    Tools For A New Territory

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 05:32 AM PST

    Hello,

So I've started my new role in my new territory (yesterday) and I am starting the process of cold calling, e-mailing, and prospecting. I've created some lists for targets, but I am curious if there are any tools out there that are not crazy expensive that will help me grow my book as quickly as possible.

I am fortunate that I do have access to ZoomInfo at current (so I do have access to contact information). Is there anything else that I can couple with that, that will help me streamline my process of cold calling, cold e-mailing, etc? I am basically a one-man band right now.

I am looking at Apollo.io , Outreach, and Salesloft -- at current. I might jump on Apollo as I can probably expense the cost of that. Though, it looks like Outreach and Salesloft might be out of budget.

Do I need LinkedIn Premium if I have Sales Navigator?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 06:05 AM PST

Hey guys, sorry if this is a silly question, but I couldn't quite figure it out. My company just announced that they're paying for Sales Navigator for all of us. I currently pay for Premium on my own, but I wanted to make sure I'll retain all the benefits of Premium if I cancel my subscription. Does anyone know how this works?

Step back in career to break into SaaS?

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 05:40 AM PST

Good morning sales fam hope you all are doing great. I am in logistics sales working as a Regional Sales Manager. I have been wanting to break into SaaS sales but it is proving much more difficult than I had anticipated. I have an opportunity with a local company but would have to start as a BDR. There is obvious opportunity to move into an AE role in the future, but it could take as much as 1.5 years. It would be a significant reduction in salary and loss of car/phone benefits, but the commission structure of the BDR role would allow me to get back to this point within a few months.

My question to you all is if it is typically needed to start in this BDR role to get into the industry? I have worked so hard to get to my outside sales RSM position and am hesitant to take a "step backward" in my sales progression to break into an industry that I want to be in. Does anyone have experience with this and would be willing to lend some advice? Thank you in advance!!

    Selling to developers

    Posted: 08 Jan 2021 04:20 AM PST

Hi everyone! I work for a SaaS company that sells a tool for developers. We've been working on our B2B outbound strategy but it's been challenging. Developers seem to hate sales people, especially if it's a cold outreach (even if it's personalized).

We do generate a good amount of inbound leads, but the idea is to increase our outbound, targeting Enterprises - I usually reach out to Engineering Managers, Team Leads, Senior software developers.

If you're working in the same industry, do you have any tips to share that have been working for you?

    Thanks in advance.

    Posted: 07 Jan 2021 01:44 PM PST

Can people really make money selling solar?i mean how common is it for people to have or want solar panels...isn't that for people that live in rural areas and own their own houses?can people with apartments and live in the city get solar too?is it all 1099 jobs that sell door to door or is it a normal job that you can call people on the phone from and work 100%remote?do I need sales or customer service expierence because I always see these jobs on craiglist and I'm not gonna lie ....I get kinda hesitant and I think it might be scammy.
