Should I stay, should I go? Sales and Selling

Should I stay, should I go? Sales and Selling

Should I stay, should I go?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:14 AM PST

I did not hit my target in 2020. I was short 15%.

I am currently put on a Performance Improvement Program (an informal one) some revenue goals of my Q1 target, and to build a 3X H1 pipeline.

I do renewals and new biz.

    2020 NB target was $500k v 2021 NB target is $650k

    2020 renewals target was $2.5M (80 clients) v 2021 renewals target is $3.6M (26 clients)

Salary and OTE remain the same.

    Reasons to go:

    1. Increased in targets but salary remains the same.
    2. Commissions have decreased.
    3. Feeling burnt out with a lot of administration

    Reasons to stay:

    1. The company generally have the best products (syndicated and consultancy) in the market and is well known in the industry.
    2. The job market isn't stable.
    3. I want to have at least one more year's experience with this company as I have moved from managing smaller accounts to larger accounts.

My mental health is taking a toll at the moment with kids at home (lockdown). I have minimum financial commitments - mortgage and household bills (I have savings and spouse's working).

I am looking for rational advice.

    Interview follow up(s)

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:29 AM PST

Not sure if this is exactly the right place to post this, but I'm sure some of you will have some advice. I recently applied for a technical services/sales support role with a company. I had a zoom interview with one of the owners, and a regional manager. It went well, and they asked for me to come to their office for an in person interview. The first interview was before the holidays, so after the holiday season, I sent them a thank you and request to set up a day/time to come to their office. After not hearing anything for another week or so, I sent another follow up saying that my schedule was pretty booked the following week and if they had any opportunities for the week after. Eventually we nailed down a date.

I traveled down there (about 4 hours), got a hotel room, and met with the owner, the same regional manager, and another regional manager. The interview part went well, we discussed the role, travel expectations, my work history, etc. I got a tour of their facility, and it seemed the one regional manager was telling me (without telling me) that I should expect an offer. This was Friday.

Would it be appropriate/beneficial to send another thank you? Maybe reach out to the regional manager that seemed to like me? Wait it out? I currently have a job so I'm not exactly desperate, but also this potential new job is more what I want to do, more money, etc. Thanks

Achieved over 300% of quota.. and commission rates slashed by 40%

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 05:26 AM PST

Hi everyone. I am pretty sure I know my own personal answer to this but I wanted to get a sounding board here.

Without revealing too much, I have been working with my company for several years at enterprise level. I have routinely been a top performer, and was the top rep worldwide for 2020 achieving over 300% of my annual quota and have historically closed some of the largest transactions in my company's history.

I received my compensation plan for FY21 and was met with:

*An increase in annualized quota by just a smidge under 200%. I am in a fortunate position that my company grew last year, however growth target rates are around 30-40%.

*A very modest base salary increase that does not even still put me on par with reps that have been hired after me that are in SMB/mid-market positions in guaranteed compensation. I was told that this was the maximum base raise they could give me since I "do not qualify for a promotion at this time."

*Variable increased by a total of $7K, but the underlying commissions rates have been reduced by 40%. For example, to model a transaction that I closed in FY20 - would have awarded $72K last year now would award $43K. And to clarify, yes -- the commission rates were slashed across the board at 40%, this also includes my accelerator rates.

I am trying to not think too emotionally here, but this also stings quite a bit when our executive leadership have also not personally recognized me for my achievements, either publicly or privately. It is hard to not feel like their thank you is this new comp plan lol.

I expected some type of quota increase after the year I had, but my base compensation raise does not even scratch the surface of covering the commission rate/variable reductions.

My gut is telling me it may be time to see what else is out there, am I off base?

Anyone joined a SaaS company pre-IPO? Weighing a potential job offer.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 05:40 AM PST

I've been in sales for 5.5 years now, 2.5 years as an AE in SaaS in MidMarket roles. I'm based in Chicago, my current base is 90k with OTE at 165k. However, this is a startup, quotas are very high, and not a single rep even sniffed their OTE last year. I made 5k in commission, highest rep attainment was 15% of quota last year. Market is hurting right now due to Covid.

I am in the final round with a company for a commercial AE role that would require me to eventually relocate to the Bay Area when the office opens back up. The comp is 65k base, 130 OTE (for SF). The big selling points is every rep on this team of 40 hit their quota, and at a minimum made their OTEs last year, some over 200k. One of their other big selling points is they are looking to IPO within two years.

Lot to unpack here, but curious if anyone has made move similar to this where they took a log less "guaranteed money" for higher earning potential. Also curious if anyone has been with a company that IPOd and if the earnings were significant enough to justify it.

Am I about to be in LinkedIn jail?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:57 AM PST

Did anyone else get an email today from LinkedIn with the subject line, 'An important reminder to our community'?

Here's the body of the email:

We've heard from LinkedIn members that they feel their inboxes are overwhelmed by more and more connection requests from strangers. Members tell us they don't like getting them and often mark them as spam. As a reminder, it's best to only connect with people you know. Keeping your connections list relevant and personal ensures you have the best LinkedIn experience as well. If you receive an invitation from a stranger, it's OK to click "Ignore".

This week we are taking steps to remind everyone to connect thoughtfully. If there's someone you haven't met yet, but would like to network with them, there are a few ways to engage with them first.

Follow them: When you follow someone you'll still see their updates. You can then start a conversation in Feed by commenting on their posts and establish familiarity before you reach out. Send an InMail: InMails provide you more space to introduce yourself and explain why you'd like to connect. Ask a mutual connection to introduce you: Provide context on why you're interested in connecting with that person so your connection understands why you're asking for the intro. For more networking tips, check out our new article on the LinkedIn Blog.

If you store your sales decks in SharePoint, you likely don't use very much metadata.. And you aren't alone in that. Metadata is often underused and misunderstood. We've written a guide to using metadata in SharePoint that will help you get on the right track: https://www.teamsli.de/how-to-use-metadata-in-sharepoint/

    Sales Funnels

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:04 AM PST

I've been using sales funnels in my E-Commerce businesses for years now, they've generated insane results for my business with half the effort. I'd really like to share my knowledge regarding sales funnels, and also learn from some people who know even more than me about them. I'm not selling any product, I was just looking for a sales funnels community and couldn't find one! It's crazy that it could be so absent on here.

Doing sales in 2021 without a sales funnel or at least some level of automation feels like a raw deal.

Anyone who has experience with sales funnels, or wants to learn about sales funnels please join r/usingsalesfunnels. Join me and many others and take your E-Commerce business a whole lot further with a whole lot less effort.

B2C sales - What is with no-shows - What are your best tips and ideas to get people to show up on call?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:09 PM PST

This may be a pre-sales question.

In B2C sales for a weightloss coaching company - and my no-show rate is 95%

    Is that normal?

    Bad/unqualified lead?

    Or am I missing something.

We allow call booking only 4 days out, contact them 24 hours before and 2 hours before

    Still no shows

    How disorganized someone can be.

What are your best tips and ideas to get people to show up on call?

    Comp Plan?

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:08 PM PST

Hi All! Getting ready to renegotiate my comp plan. PhD in Engineering. I started 2.5 years ago as an SE at a multinational corporation that specializes in research technology, and after a year I added on additional AM responsibilities. Took on more this past year as one of my colleagues left. I have an SE target around $2MM and a separate AE target around $1.5 MM. So far I've gotten only approximate COL increases and am at $75k/$50k. Given my dual responsibilities/target I'm looking for something closer to $95k-$100k base and around $55k variable. Is this fair? I've been a top performer on the team. Thanks!

Should I pursue this business idea??

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:56 PM PST

PROBLEM: as an outbound telemarketing agent. I am tasked with making 70-150 calls per day.

I found that it can be really easy to lose momentum or get distracted while making continuous dials especially now that we were working from home.

I also realized that with some better technology, we could be able to make up to 300+ calls a day.

SOLUTION: I decided I would make an application that made dials for you automatically, allowed you to disposition faster, and was all around a better system that kept agents engaged during cold calls.

These products already exist and are called power dialers. They can be found on independent websites like phoneburner.com, or as an add-on from the popular websites like salesforce.com

I do see a really big problem in their marketing, products and see opportunities in things that I can improve on. I'm just wondering now, how big of a problem this is and if people would pay for this.

MY QUESTION: Cold calling is a really big part of my life as I am part of an F500 telecommunications B2C organization. But I am now wondering how big of a role cold calling plays in your lives as SDRs, AEs, and Sales agents in other organizations...?

Is your company able to sustain 300 calls/day/rep?

Any advice on any problems or concerns that you see is always appreciated :)

I broke down and went back to car sales

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:38 PM PST

As the text says, it's been about 4 years out of slinging metal, but I have been in sales through the last 4 years in another industry. I fought going back into the business for years but got finessed into coming back from my friends lol. I am in internet and have absolutely no pipeline and crap leads. Need some good scripts for drumming up old sold customers, email would be preferred just to have them hit me back up. Anything is welcome lol

Want to transition to pharmaceutical sales

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 01:31 PM PST

I work for a large health care provider, mostly performing audits on pharmacies and medical facilities. Although I like it and it's interesting at times, I don't particularly like working alone in front of a computer all day.

I'm currently looking at trying to get into pharma sales again. I say again because I spent over a year applying and getting phone interviews.

I have a bachelor's in business administration and in college I took a specific course load to get a professional sales certificate. It sounds generic but it was actually really good preparation. They brought in sales reps and business owners for us to have "meetings" with in a room that was set up with cameras and microphones so we could review them. Also since the certificate required a concentration, I had to take biology and chemistry with labs along with a couple of other science electives.

I must have desired qualifications because I've been invited to a couple of interviews and almost got a medical device sales job. But, before the final interview (3rd) they went on a hiring freeze. Is it just a matter of continuing to apply until I land a job? I've done inside sales for a pharmaceutical distributor and I've also worked as an EMT in college. I'm also very comfortable and experienced speaking with high level professionals within the medical field due to my current position.

I was thinking about trying MedReps and paying for 3 months, has anyone had luck with their service? Also, could my current role be helpful in getting a pharma sales job? Even though it's required that they comply with audits, I still have to deal with tracking down the right individual to speak with and actually getting them to respond in a timely manner.

    Any advice helps, thank you.

    Looking for a new job

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 01:29 PM PST

So I've got a sales rep job that I've had for about a year and a half at a small distribution company in the middle of the USA. It's primarily commission based and my base pay is $400. My company kinda runs everything old school. I honestly think the place is going to get left in the dust by competition in the next few years. Needless to say, I'm looking for a role where I feel like I might have a chance at some higher base pay. Is this an unrealistic dream?

Even though I've not been able to get my sales numbers to where I want them, I probably opened up like a couple dozen places total over the past year. We sell consumables like safety and janitorial items.
