Can we add a karma requirement or something to post?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:30 AM PST

We are getting a ton of bots or users pumping and dumping stocks and it's not only ruining the sub but costing new users money.

Imagine how many people bought a certain stock at full price yesterday. Imagine how many are about to buy the next dump that's been posted over there for weeks.

These are meant to be different subs. Ours is for discussion and theirs is for pump and dumps. Starting to feel the same.

Edit: It is your own fault if you lose money taking advice from Reddit. My point is that this sub is for discussion not pumping stocks you own.

Today's posts about NOK and AMC on this sub quickly got lots of awards. Someone is spending money to promote these stocks.

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:49 PM PST

Screenshot here. Almost no other posts have many awards like this.

This "someone" thinks it's worth spending money to grab redditors' attention. Hmm, I wonder why they would casually throw away their money. Unless this would benefit themselves somehow. Hmmm.

Biden's campaign promise to build 500,000 charging stations in the next decade

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 01:05 PM PST

I was reading about Biden's plan for EV's. Already an investor in the EV market but thought id come here to ask what company's could be possible candidates for the charging stations contracts? I'm assuming the EV manufactures wouldn't be the one to take the contract for it. I could be definitely wrong also, that's why I came here.

Nokia pump (by hedgefunds I think)

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:30 PM PST

So today all of a sudden Nokia reaches every reddit front page, even multiple posts. What makes me even more suspicious is the amount of awards they got, we know how rare they are here, but every Nokia post here got them and even got mostly the same.

It is really scarry, I think hedges realised the amount of money floating around these subs and now want to take it from us or just benefit from it. Look at the Nokia Chart, went parabolic last friday with high volume. The accounts of the posters also look super suspicious.

Maybe this is testing the water for them and the worst is yet to come, but this is a good reminder to never trust someone blindly. I hope mods can do something about it.

Edit: Thanks for the awards (am I suspicous now? :D)

I did not want to say that Nokia has to be a bad investment, just that this pump was very suspicious. If you want to buy Nokia listen to some counter points in the comments and compare them to other 5G players like Ericsson.

    Playboy going public

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 12:50 PM PST

Playboy will be going public via reverse merger and trade under the ticker PLBY in 1-2 weeks.

I researched what they are doing and think CEO Kohn might actually succeed in creating a blasting come-back for the brand. He stopped all legacy porn and magazine business and is focusing on creating a premium lifestyle, fashion and clothes brand in China, Taiwan and India.

After the merger next week, they will be free of debt, have a profitable business (with fixed revenue contracts until 2029), plenty of assets and $100m in cash for their expansion plans - at a market cap of less than $500m.

Porn jokes aside, what do you think? Will Kohn be able to harness the name and its reputation as a headstart to create something new from scratch?

    The inevitable crash

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 12:30 PM PST

Saying a market crash is coming, just because the market is rising for a long time, is the same as guessing rain will come after sunshine.

Conclusion: Don't get scared of some boomer saying the market will crash soon. No one knows when it happens, it could take a month, it could take a year. It could take 5 years(highly improbable though)

Trying to time the crash is impossible, so if you do are worried of a crash soon, just buy stocks and etf's you like for the long run, that way you wont really get affected by the crash.

    DD strategies

So I've seen lots of post with a brief paragraph about a company then a statement that says do your own DD (Due Diligence). So as a relative newbie I'm asking how do you guys go about this? What are the best sorces? What are some key stats to look at? What are red flags? What are things that make it a sure bet? Anything that is indicitive of a longterm play? I know what many of the stats mean on the surface but I don't know what they mean in context of company health or growth. Thanks!

Too late to buy more PLTR since it’s demo day?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:08 AM PST

I initially bought PLTR a month ago and recently got my pay check and can afford to put some more money into it again (like $200 lol). I am a college student working part time. I love the company and the software services they provide. I am still somewhat new to the concept of things being priced in already. Do you all think this is the case? Would it be wise to wait and see how PLTR trades after the demo today? I have a decently diversified portfolio already and I can definitely afford to lose this $200 worst case. Thank you!

Kinda sad that if/when this bubble bursts retail will get scapegoated

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:30 PM PST

We've all seen the bloomberg articles about how wsb crushed hedge funds and how reddit is responsible for all this euphoria. And that works fine when things are going up but the minute things go down the blame is going to fall right on retail. I can already see the articles "options are dangerous in the hands of retail investors" or "millennials shouldn't be so reckless in the market". I'd like to hear your thoughts about the future of retail if/when this bubble bursts.

    An honest case on NOK

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 02:52 AM PST

    Hi all,

I've been seeing all these posts about shady accounts trying to hype Nokia etc. Dunno anything about that, but I feel like I should ship into this conversation.

First of all, a few weeks ago, I made a bad decision (hindsight 20/20) and decided to sell my NOK shares. Didn't have a big position to begin with, but still. You can see the screenshot of that transaction here. (It is in Finnish, but it says I sold 1150 shares at 3,18 on 8th of January).

Now today, after some careful consideration, I decided to hop back in, with a bigger, 9k position. Screen here.

    I'll tell you why.

First of all, every Finn has an opinion about Nokia, and they're very sentimental and nostalgic about it. The company made a lot of people rich and they hope it'll become one of the great ones someday. And they're willing to hang on through the toughest of times. I do not know how much of the hype on interest is made up and how much is real, but I'm sure many Finns will view the latest surge in the stock price as a positive and - I believe - will jump back in and go long. The company has been all over the local news yesterday and today, so the media is adding to the hype.

Second, I think the company has been undervalued for quite some time now. And I don't blame the investors. There was every reason to think that the company was done for. But now it genuinely looks like there is a meaningful change coming. It might take a few years, but the company has definitely renewed their strategy and is moving in the right direction.

Third, the analysts seem to agree. In the past week at least 4 different analysts have upgraded their target price. Latest were banks Danske Bank to 4,30€ and Handelsbanken to 4,40€.

To sum it up, the hype might not last, but I genuinely feel the potential is there.

Is there an ETF for batteries and/or EVs?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:39 AM PST

    Hi,

This is obvious and apparent news that EVs are rising.

I know there are tons of EV companies arising

However, I am more interested in the sector all together.

The best thing I have going so far is the semi-conductor sector, more specifically, SMH. I think it is a good ETF that will rise in parallel with this EV push... thoughts?

Ok thanks guys, have a good one.

    $CRSR Corsair DD

    Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:35 PM PST

    Corsair Gaming ($CRSR)

    Redefining gaming, eSports, and streaming

    Company Overview

Corsair Gaming is an American computer hardware and peripherals company founded in 1994 and headquartered in California.

They acquired Elgato Gaming in 2018 to expand to the streaming gear market, Origin PC and SCUF gaming in 2019 to expand into the custom-built PC systems and console controllers markets, respectively, and during 2020 they acquired Gamer Sensei and EpocCam, and partnered with Pipeline to grow into the gaming and streaming coaching market.

Corsair went public on September 23, 2020, with its IPO priced at $17, valuing the company at about $1.3B.

    Understanding the Business

    Value Proposition

Corsair provides specialized, high-performance gear for gamers and streamers. Their products are designed to provide speed and reliability for competitive gaming, high quality content for streamers, and powerful PC components that allows gamers to run modern games smoothly.

    Revenue Streams

Currently, Corsair groups its product offering into two segments: gamer and creator peripherals and gaming components and systems.

    Gamer and Creator Peripherals:

which represents around 25% of net revenue, includes gaming mice, keyboards, and headsets, streaming gear, and high performance console controllers.

    Gaming Components Systems:

which represents around 75% of net revenue includes computer cases, power supply units (PSU), high performance memory products (40% of net revenue), and custom-built gaming systems.

    Acquisitions and Partnerships:

During 3Q 2020 Corsair acquired Gamer Sensei, a gaming coaching platform, EpocCam, an app that allows iPhones to serve as a webcam, and partnered with Pipeline, a course-based education platform for streamers.

    Industry

    Market Size

According to Jon Peddie Research, the global gaming and streaming gear markets is expected to reach $40B by the end of 2020. Before the pandemic JPR estimated the market to grow at a modest 1.05% CAGR until 2022. However, during 2020 the market has grown an estimated 10% year-over-year.

Additionally, DFC Intelligence research estimated that the video-game coaching market surpasses $1B.

    Industry Fundamentals

Growth in the gaming and streaming gear industries are driven by strong and robust fundamentals.

    Popularity of gaming is increasing:

According to Newzoo, there are an estimated 2.7B gamers worldwide, which are expected to spend $159B on games in 2020 and is expected to grow at an 8.3% CAGR to exceed $200B by 2023. PC and console gaming represents 51% of the total market, and mobile gaming 49%. Corsair has stated that currently there is no interest in expanding to the mobile gaming market.

    Tech-driven improvements in game quality:

Advances in computer power have enabled gaming platforms to provide increasingly immersive experiences. This in turn, places increased demand on high-performance computing hardware.

    Increasing gaming and streaming engagement:

Some interesting facts reported in the Limelight Networks' State of Online Gaming 2019 research report include:

    • On average, video gamers spend six hours and 20 minutes each week playing video games
    • More than 38% of gamers would like to become professionals if it could support themselves
    • Gamers from novice to aspiring professionals report missing daily activities due to gaming, missed sleep is the most pervasive
    • Watching gamers play video games online is more popular than watching traditional sports for 18-25 year olds.

    The eSports and streaming flywheel

The rise in popularity and viewership of eSports brings more investment from publishers, sponsors, advertisers, team owners, and leagues to the eSports industry. Increased investment brings more players and increased performance focus of gamers who advance from less engaged gaming to high-performance gameplay, which in turn brings more viewers.

    Competitive Landscape & Risks

    Competition

The gaming and streaming market is characterized by intense competition, constant price pressure and rapid change. Competition across Corsair's product offering includes:

Gaming keyboards and mice - Logitech and Razer

Headsets and related audio products -Logitech, Razer, and HyperX

Streaming gear - Logitech and AVerMedia

Performance controllers - Microsoft and Logitech

PSUs, cooling solutions, and computer cases - Cooler Master, NZXT, EVGA, Seasonic, and Thermaltake

High performance memory - G.Skill, HyperX, and Micron

Pre-built and custom-built gaming PCs - Alienware (Dell), Omen (HP), Asus, Razer, iBuypower and Cyberpower

    Competitive Strategy

The company follows a differentiation leadership strategy by prioritizing high-performance and professional quality and charging a price premium on their products in exchange for superior quality, high value added features, and superior brand recognition.

    Market Share

According to NPD Group, by 2020 Corsair had #1 market share position in the US in its gaming components and systems products with 42% of the market share from 26% in 2015. Their gamer and creator peripheral products are not yet market leaders, however, the company increased its market share in that segment from 5% in 2013 to 18% by 2020 in the US.

    Growth Strategy

Move into the Asia Pacific region:

The Asia Pacific Region represents a long-term growth opportunity. According to Newzoo, they represent 54% of the global gaming community.

    Complimentary acquisitions:

Corsair has carried out this strategy aggressively since 2018 with the acquisitions of Elgato Gaming, Origin PC, SCUF and Gamer Sensei. They plan to continue evaluating and pursuing new acquisitions that may strengthen their competitive position.

    New Markets:

Uses of streaming gear has spread into areas including, podcasting, video blogging, interactive fitness, remote learning, and work-from-home, which represent a promising avenue for continued expansion in this product segment.

    Threat of New Entrants

Because of the continued convergence between the computing devices and consumer electronics markets, increased competition from well-established consumer electronics companies is expected in the gaming and streaming peripherals segment (e.g. use of Audio-technica microphones by streamers).

    Threat of Substitution

A significant medium- to long-term risk for Corsair's business model is the evolution of cloud computing and augmented/virtual reality entertainment.

Cloud computing refers to a computing environment in which software is run on third-party servers and accessed by end users over the internet, requiring minimal processing power from the end-user's system. Through cloud computing, gamers will be able to access and play sophisticated games without the need of expensive high-performance PC systems and components.

According to Grand View Research, the global cloud gaming market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 48% from 2020 to reach $7.2B by 2027.

Additionally, Corsair must be able to adapt its product offering to meet the needs of the evolving augmented/virtual reality industry.

    Moats

There does not seem to be any relevant, structural moats, that may prohibit competitors from capturing Corsair's market share across their product offering.

    Other Relevant Risks

Due to the concentration of their production facilities in Taiwan and China, Corsair may be adversely by geopolitical tensions and trade disputes.

Green energy/renewable energy stocks to buy right now?

    Hello,

At the moment, I am going hard on $PLUG, but I am looking to buy more of green energy/renewable energy stocks to have something next to PLUG. I'm going for mid to long term (1-4 years) and I'm open for any discussion.

I'm thinking of shares that are under 25$ but any higher than that is not a problem too.

Hi everyone! I've had a look at the IPOs set to occur this week and $XM caught my attention as I have used it quite a lot in the past, so I took a look and saw that SAP is looking to cash out on this investment, and as well that they have raised the target price range by 10% just a few days prior. They have a solid financial muscle to back them up and solid sales growth. Are you considering buying in?

$DKNG or $BETZ in the long run?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 12:41 PM PST

I feel really good about the future of online sports betting as it's blowing up but still in its early stages. Right now obviously your biggest platforms are DraftKings and Fanduel with Barstools platform starting to rise.

With that being said, I see a lot of people on here advocating for buying shares of DKNG instead of BETZ because BETZ is made up of such a small portion of DKNG and DraftKings is currently the "largest" of the online sports betting platforms.

My personal opinion, is that with the inevitable growth in the online sports betting market, will also come even stronger competition from betting platforms outside of DraftKings with the possibility that DK may even take the backseat so although some of the holdings BETZ has right now may seem pointless, they'll be strong competitors by the time this market takes full shape. Does this seem like the correct thinking?
