Is it a Dick Move to leave a company after winning Presidents Club?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:45 AM PST

I found a better opportunity early January, signed the job offer, and delayed my start date 1 month to be around for the P Club Ceremony. Now I won (Trip is planned for September), and I'm having cold feet about making the jump. I'm nervous about how this will be perceived. The second place guy is a good friend and had I left before he would have got it, and would have probably gone on the trip.

What is it like being a sales engineer compared to a regular salesperson?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 09:46 AM PST

I have an opportunity to apply for this position as a sales engineer but I'm curious if it's harder or easier to be a sales engineer for a power company. I sell life insurance currently.

When did you close your first deal starting a new sales job?

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:20 PM PST

Currently on the first month of my new job (first real sales position). I'm on monthly quota and haven't closed a deal yet. I might be a little too hard on myself but I'm getting pretty anxious that I won't be hitting quota my first months

For all B2B SaaS Sales Reps: What's the skill within your job that'd you'd like to get better at and why?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:23 AM PST

    Give me some insight!

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 09:13 AM PST

    Intro

Welcome to the Ask Sales salary survey! This post is intended to provide an ongoing resource for job hunters to get an idea of the salary they should ask for based on location and job title. Survey responses are NOT vetted or verified, and should not be considered data of sufficient quality for statistical or other data analysis.

So what's the point of this survey? We hope that by collecting responses every quarter, job hunters can use it as a supplement to other salary data sites like the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Glassdoor and PayScale to negotiate better compensation packages when they switch jobs.

    Useful websites

For Americans, BLS is the gold standard when it comes to labor data. A guide for how to use BLS can be found in our wiki:

How to participate / Survey instructions

A template is provided at the bottom of this post to standardize reporting total compensation from your job. I encourage you to fill out all of the fields to keep the quality of responses high. Feel free to make a throwaway account for anonymity.

    1. Copy the template in the gray code box below.
    2. Look in the comments for the Sales discipline that your job/industry falls under, and reply to the top-level AutoModerator comment.

Companies That Will Go Remote Permanently

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 05:17 PM PST

I was wondering, as the title states, which companies will have their sales team going remote work/work from home permanently even after things fully open back up and we go back to "normal". Especially asking with regards to entry level sales positions.

I made a browser extension to help my wife with managing her sales in Instagram Direct

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 09:45 AM PST

She teaches Chinese and sells Chinese courses, coaching and stuff. Gradually, she gathered quite a few students and clients and it was annoying for her to scroll through all of the chats in Direct, permanent anxiety to lose someone or forget to reply. So I made a kind of CRM, but simpler and intended only for Instagram. This contains a simple dashboard where she can create product positions, custom statuses (=stages), and prepared instant messages and extension itself, which adds some buttons near each chat where she can set the status and products of a deal.

Recently I asked the Reddit community if there was anyone with a similar problem as my wife had and it turned out that yes. So after few weeks I finally prepared a public version of this. There are still many things left to automate such as creating an account on-the-go, therefore when you sign up you will need to wait a bit while I create your account (make sure you leave the username of the Instagram account you want to enhance!).

You can try it absolutely for free, become so-called early adopters :D and impact further development through your requests and feedback. Thanks to my wife I have many things to improve in my mind (and I've already done for her custom version), but it could be only her needs whereas I would like to cover the requests of as many people as possible. So if you really use Instagram in your business or job - give it a try, I hope it could help!

    P.S. don't ask why it's a pony, my wife insisted :D

Should I get all the work apps on my phone?

    Question Regarding Required Hrs

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:33 AM PST

    Morning Everyone,

My company has instituted a policy for salary employees to work 50hrs/week mandatory. I'm working for an engineering related company in an outside sales/account manager role. For those in the engineering/construction field, am I oblivious to this industry's difference from others, or is this outside the norm? I've spent time in the manufacturing and freight industries where I've never experienced this. Wanted to know if it's abnormal, or if it's just my lack of exposure in this field that makes this strange.

    Appreciate everyone's replies in advance.

Technical Sales to BDR (SaaS) worth the potential pay cut?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:19 AM PST

I'm currently in a technical sales role salaried at $90k. Started as a sales engineer out of college making $65k, company split mid 2019 so I followed the product line to the new distributor and got some pay bumps to where I am now.

I have a degree in mechanical engineering and have been selling high voltage test equipment for just over 3 years. Currently located in the DMV area so I've been passively applying for other tech sales jobs. One big motivation for moving is the lack of structure at my current job and a pay ceiling in my industry. I have thought about switching industries for bit and a BDR/SDR role seems appropriate to fast track my transition, hopefully leading to an AE role if things go well. If things don't work out at this company my ambition would be to be stay in the SaaS sales space, which I think has more career mobility than my current job.

I have an offer for a BDR role selling CMS software, base is $60k, OTE $100k, I was advised by the VP of sales to be prepared to make $80k... So could be a $10k hit in salary, if things go great then a $10k bump.

This company is 10 years old and is just now starting to build out their sales team. VP of sales recently came on board to spearhead this initiative, he has built up companies from scratch and seems like a solid guy to work under.

Thoughts? Anything I should consider? I'm not vested in my current company's 401k until November, so I'd be losing ~$4.5k, and I'd also have to pay back a signing bonus ~$2k.

To the SDR's in this subreddit - How do you run a simple effective cadence

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 12:10 AM PST

Looking to get some advice from SDR's regarding running cadences through software like Salesloft.

At the surface level it's an effective tool for streamlining out reach to prospects - however I find myself struggling to land on a simple effective cadence for my prospecting.

I seem to be stuck in a cycle of constantly creating templates, cadences and out reach methods - getting annoyed and deleting them only to start over.

I've got quite a broad sell product that could in theory be applied enterprise wide but with 3 possible land departments.

Curious to know how you segment your outreach and any effective cadences that have worked for you in the past or currently.

My current structure is phone heavy as I feel it's my strongest point but wherever practical would like to include multiple touches over LinkedIn, Emailing etc.

Do I deserve a raise? How do you determine what to ask for?

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 05:12 AM PST

I'm wondering how you all come up with a fair salary. I am currently at 60/60 (120 ote) but made over 200k this year. I am on our SMB team and the first person to ever hit presidents club in my space (8yr old saas company). I have the largest ARR, fastest sales cycle and most generated new logos for FY21. I am also the youngest rep on the team.

The mid market and enterprise reps salaries are all 100-200k base. My annual number was 650 and theirs is 1.2M. I am performing better than 90% of the reps even in the mid and enterprise segment based on closed revenue alone. Not even % to quota.

We are going through a reorganization and they are essentially combining the smb with mid market teams. Essentially I feel like it's a way to give us bigger quotas and more accounts to work without a promotion. I believe I will be getting a 10k raise next month but not positive.

I believe I am worth way more than a 10k raise and can make a lot more money / be more valuable to the company. In the 3 years that I have been here I have never missed quota and have been a top performer month over month. However, I've only been in this specific role for 1 year.

Do I have the right to ask for a raise? How do I go about it? What if it is only 10k and reps are performing way worse than me are making 120k base.

I know I should lead with value and metrics so any insight or advice is greatly appreciated. I've heard a % of your quota can determine a fair salary but want to lead with the value I bring.

Things to note: I live in a fairly low cost of living state I previously managed a sales team at this company The company is based in San Francisco so I know salaries are different based on cost of living.

    Thanks!

TLDR: Youngest rep, Top performer - should/how do I ask for a raise?

25 year old guy here stuck in retail sales

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:00 PM PST

Hey folks, let me start of by saying that I love how enthusiastic and helpful you guys are to the community here. It has no doubt helped me in tough times and getting some jobs.

I am currently stuck in retail sales. My journey started off getting a job in Computer Sales at Best Buy where I absolutely fell in love with technology, and really enjoyed helping customers throughout the whole purchase of buying a computer. I pretty much turned into a geek and gave myself props on really diving deep on the products, software and services we sold to ensure we had the customer covered 100%. From Best Buy I moved into specialized vendor gigs like being the face of companies like Apple, Dell, Amazon, Google and more.

My performance? I wouldnt say I am an amazing salesman but I've always been able to hit or exceed my goals even during these times in retail. I pretty much moved jobs according to the pay but finding myself burnt out at being at a store pitching the brand I represent. I have collogues that are more in the sales mentality where I've always focused and a great and informative customer experience, a lot of the time customers love my interactions with them and sometimes when they did not buy my product then, they would come back later for a sale.

I am currently trying to figure out what the hell to do with my life career wise, I was starting to learn programming but find it kind of boring to say the least. I do love interacting with people.

So if you seasoned guys making some good money could give me some guidance or advice I'd appreciate it. I've been with enough companies to realize that theirs no way I can really make enough money in retail, even in management,

Selling marketing and social media services

    Posted: 27 Jan 2021 02:03 AM PST

Hi everyone. I (22M) am currently working as an intern in a small startup who provide Social media management and Marketing services (Videos, graphics etc). I have been working on sales for more than 15 days and haven't sold any or produced new leads.

I have tried contacting shops, vendors in nearby regions. Sent cold mails to companies abroad.

My question is since I am in a business development position what can I do other than just trying to sell. Even if selling how can do it better?

Any advice would have immense impact. Thanks 😊

    Moving into “strategic” role

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 07:21 PM PST

    Howdy!

SaaS BDRing has been full of good opportunities to grow and learn in the last year - Not least of which is a new territory change.

With the start of the 2021 I will be prospecting companies with 10,000 employees or more, hence an arbitrary title change.

While your continued advice has helped me excel in my current role, I would love to hear what strategies/channels/tips/etc. would be helpful as I shift my focus from smaller (10-500 count.) companies to larger, "strategic" opportunities?

    Marketing to SaaS

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:45 PM PST

Hey! Hope can someone shed some light on this.

What would be the best way to transition from an account management background (I was once an AE too but selling ideas) to selling SaaS? What are the things I can do to get my foot on the door?

I don't have any knowledge when it comes to Salesforce. I only know MAP such as HubSpot.

Is this a possible career move? Is there anyone here has experienced the same?

    Thank you!

Advice for a new Sales Manager

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 03:09 PM PST

    Hi,

Starting a new position as a Sales Manager at a small non profit organization which sells products in the education market. I come from a similar background (charity, essentially selling products to schools that have a social + environmental benefit) but I don't have a formal education in Sales.

Is there a formal sales / tactic / work plan format that's typically used? I had one on excel at my previous position but do most people just make it on their CRM like Salesforce?

Any advice would be appreciated! Really excited about this opportunity and want to make a good first impression.

Need help with an interview task.

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 10:19 PM PST

Hello everyone, I have a 2nd interview and they've given me a task. Would you give me a hand with your ideas as I want to make sure I give them the best possible answer as I really want this job.

    Task

You and your team need to generate 1,000 leads over the period of 6 weeks for one of our new clients.

A lead in this case is being defined as a user who has submitted their details on an online form/landing page. Your target audience will be B2B Senior Technology Professionals on a Global basis and in any type of firm. You will have 4 lead gen execs and 1 marketing exec at your disposal.

Please talk through a brief plan (5-10 mins) of how you would approach this task, keeping in mind: - Setting up your team - Reaching the target in the given timeframe - Noting any tools or campaigns you would be using to identify and store contact in - Any reporting to clients and/or the team

Please make any assumptions where necessary. This should just be a short task to talk through, or present if preferred, and answer questions around.

    Advantage/Disadvantage of Privately-owned Corp vs. Publicly-owned Corp

    Posted: 26 Jan 2021 06:13 PM PST

    The title itself.
I'm currently working for a lean, privately owned corp but am exploring a bigger, publicly owned one. The company I work for prides itself for its ethics, stability, prioritizing its people, etc, All of which are arguably true.. Until an asshole of a managing director decides to boss everyone around his/her country franchise and ignores all of it...
Never worked for the bigger companies... What do you think would be the advantages?
