Advice on dealing with a Stalker Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:01 AM PST So I'm not sure where to take this, but thought this might be a place to start. Two or three years ago, I noticed a message on my then 11 year old stepson's phone stating "You complete me as a man". I took it to my wife, who had him unlock it to find many, many messages to a person in his 40's. To make maters harder, this is split custody, he lives with his dad, then we have him on weekends, then reverses in the summer. His had provides the phone, so we didn't have access. When she found the messages, I immediately called our local LEO's, who came out, took pictures of the messages and started a report. A week or so later they came and took his phone. Apparently pictures had been shared which also takes this to another level. At the time, the police brought him in with his own attorney, talked to him and seemed to be making an effort. Then nothing. Later, we found that he'd been mailing him items (Not to us, we have cameras and see everything delivered), including an IPad, books, letters, and other things, including setting up a private email for him to use. Also for the past two to three years, he's sent all of us, dad included, letters, messages, phone calls. and anything he can to get in contact. This ranging from "Send someone to kill me" to "I need to talk to your stepson". This even goes to adding friends on Facebook and talking to them to get them to try to get us to talk to him, My wife had completely removed all of her social media accounts over it, however we still receive letters in the mail from him monthly. We've been collecting everything, still have the IPad, books, and letters in our safe, however no one seems interested in the case. The issue I believe is that he lives in a different state. While our state seems to take it seriously, his doesn't. We've worked with the child's attorney, local agencies that help abused kids, as well as a few other avenues that said they'd try to get it moving, however no dice. My wife more or less lives in fear that this deranged man will show up at our door one day and I can't say I don't believe her. Yesterday a friend suggested reaching out to the FBI since it's across state lines, however that seems like a reach. I'd considered filing for a Protective/Restraining order, however those seem to not carry much weight and I wasn't sure the case would justify it. We've more or less hoped he would just go away, but still today he persists. For reference, we live in Oklahoma, he lives in New York. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:20 AM PST I am an 18 year old single mother in Massachusetts. I am currently living with my one year old child and my emotionally and physically abusive father. I am being kicked out of the household and cannot financially or emotionally care for my child without a place to live and we will be homeless, or in a shelter. Due to my mental illness i cannot continue caring for my son for fear of hurting myself or him. I've explained this to his father, who pays $50/per month in child support and is otherwise absent from our child's life. he will not sign off on adoption. I want to work with a private agency which would allow me to hand-pick a family for my son to live with so that he may have a better life. what can i do to get around his father's refusal to cooperate? (I was never married to my ex, but he is on our son's birth certificate.) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:13 AM PST Noticed 4 separate charges for fast food which i know i did not place, and quickly contacted doordash who confirmed the food was delivered to my work's address. I have a hunch on who it may be, because i allowed a coworker to pay their phone bill using my debit card but watched them also delete my card right after using it. Doordash says to send documentation/information to their company's registered agent? But i have no idea how to go about this, all I have is an address from secretary of state website. I'm not sure where to go from here besides cancelling the card and contacting police, but I'd like to know this was a coworker before I go forward. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Fuel company repeatedly sold me diesel and claimed it was kerosene Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:51 AM PST I am currently living in a 25' camp trailer, in N. Idaho, while saving money to buy property. My regular heating system quit working a couple of months ago, and I haven't been able to get it fixed. I had a kerosene heater that I hadn't used before, and decided to try that. My dad went to the local fuel company and asked for kerosene. He noticed it was dyed red and asked about it, because he thought it was diesel. She said they always dye their kerosene red. So, for the past couple of months, I've been running this fuel. It stinks and smokes bad, and ruined the wick on two kerosene heaters. Also, it was making me sick, headaches and nausea, and even breathing issues. Both my dad and I asked her every time we went to buy kerosene, and mentioned it was making me sick, and she kept assuring us it was dyed kerosene. We both explained that I'm using a wick heater and it didn't seem to burn right. The last time my dad went in, he asked for a receipt and it was marked H/O, heating oil. He then went to another town and another company and they said NO. Kerosene is not dyed red, she is selling us diesel, marked up to kerosene prices and knowing that it's causing problems. Ive been doing some research and everything I see says you should not burn diesel in a wicked heater. I've since switched to jet fuel and it's sooooo much better. But my question is, who do I contact about this? I plan to go in and ask for the MSDS but that's the only thing I can think to do. Would I contact OSHA? Or is there another agency? Any advice will be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:23 AM PST This is occurring in Florida. So my buddy (T) and his ex wife(A) got a divorce a couple years ago and they had a verbal agreement to share their dog (bought together). One of them goes out of town the other takes care of the dog, but the primary caretaker for the weekly care was T. Initially, they stuck to this agreement but then A would leave town for a while for work or vacation and T would essentially take care of their dog for a longer term (at least all of 2020). I'm not aware of any "child support" payments made in this situation, so its safe to assume T has been footing the bill financially for their dog the entirety of this arrangement. The dog is microchipped and in T's name only. Opinion: There is no question that this dogs owner is T. Not saying that A doesn't love the dog, but who doesn't love dogs? T has since remarried and the new wife no longer wants him to have contact with his ex wife, which I completely understand. So T, being the good guy he is, willingly gives this dog to A for one last time and lets her know his plan moving forward, which is for T to be the sole owner of the dog. She, as expected by everyone but T, takes the dog, sends a string of texts stating she doesn't like the new agreement, and blocks his number. Is there a legal path to get this dog returned to T? Edit to Add: They had a dissolution of marriage so no assets were involved [link] [comments] |
Abandoned vehicle on my mother's property [FL] Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:11 AM PST I'm not sure if I used the correct flair. Background: step-Grandfather and grandmother divorced over 10 years ago. 12/22/2019 my step-grandfather was in a nursing home and his car was brought to my grandmother's house by my step aunt. It has sat there since. Both my grandma and step grandpa died. My grandma died Nov 3, 2020 he died Oct 2nd 2020 in separate homes and they were not married. We've tried to be fair with the step family and they are uncooperative with paperwork. We need to get this vehicle off of what was my grandmother's property, now my mother's property, because the house is going up for sale. The title is still in my step grandfather's name. We want to obtain possession of the vehicle and sell it because step aunt said that's what we should do as she lives in alaska. Question: how do we obtain ownership of the vehicle to sell it? If we chose to charge a storage fee how do we pin it on 3 of his kids and not just one, being that there is no executor of the estate and he did not have a will Edit: I just found out he had no will and there is no executor of the estate, this is brand new to me. Since this seems necessary this is a nasty battle with 2/3 of my grandfather's kids who did absolutely nothing for him. The car is a very nice car, were not going to have it towed off because it could go to an individual for cheaper and change their life in these hard times. It sounds like one commenter said, we can go about charging a storage fee to press them to do something about it. I hope I kept it short and concise for you, thanks for the help. [link] [comments] |
[Kentucky] Hiring Processes Stopped Because of Gender Posted: 27 Jan 2021 09:03 AM PST I applied for this job a few weeks ago and this morning I got a call from their hiring manager. I have a gender-neutral name and she wanted to ascertain my gender before moving forward in the hiring process. When she found out I was a man she told me I wouldn't be considered for the job anymore as they had other employees who would be uncomfortable working alongside a man. She told me that my resume shows the kind of candidate they would like to hire but only if it were a woman. I was pretty shocked by this whole conversation and got off the phone pretty quickly. I don't really want to work for a company that would do something like this so I guess my main question is there anyone I can report this company to? [link] [comments] |
Rejected condo application & security deposit Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:01 AM PST I have a situation regarding security deposits and rental agreements. A few days ago, I signed a lease agreement to rent out a room in a condo unit with the unit owner beginning February 1. Since the unit is in a condo building I also had to be approved by the property managers of the condo. However, my HOA application was denied and now the unit owner is not willing to return my security deposit. Given that I have not moved in, received keys to the apartment, and my application was denied by the HOA, do I still have a claim to my security deposit? Additionally, this is located in the Chicago area if anyone happens to have any knowledge of the local laws. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:25 AM PST {Apologies if I flaired this wrong and if it might be a stupid question. Google is giving me contradicting answers and I can't call any helplines in private at home right now} I'll keep it very short, I (f19) really can't live with my emotionally and physically abusive family anymore. I've decided it's time for me to just leave, I have enough money saved to get me through the first couple of months. My therapist and family doctor are also aware of the situation, just in case something goes wrong, I can still go to a women's shelter. I'm not in immediate danger at the moment but my mom, brothers and uncle have threatened to kill me if I ever "dishonored" the family and I know they're 100% capable of doing so. So while I do want to leave, I'm also scared for my life. I live in an European country now and I'm planning to move to another continent (I don't want to share where for safety reasons). But I have a few questions first; • If I get the restraining order where I live now, will that also protect me when I move abroad? Or should I ask for another one there too? • How much evidence do I need in order to be granted one? • Should I get a restraining order for each family member individually? • Can I get a restraining order against a minor? (17 years old) I'd really appreciate any help, thank you! 😊 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:26 AM PST I am currently trying to sell my property in Texas, but the Title Insurance Company is holding me up. Despite having provided them with a Warranty Deed, a Divorce Decree, and a Prenuptial Agreeement, they say they need more. Here's the timeline. I got married in 2016 and had the Prenuptial Agreement separating our property signed, notarized, and recorded on the same day. I bought a new property, with my spouse, in 2017. In 2018 my spouse transferred the property to me through a Warranty Deed, as we both agreed that I would keep the house I 100% paid for, and they would keep the house that they 100% paid for, separately and without further joint ownership. In 2019, we had an uncontested divorce and the decree specifically stated the "Settlement Agreement of 2016" (the date is included), which is actually a Prenuptial Agreement, was to be upheld and enforced. The title company insists that the Settlement Agreement must be a separate document, but it is the same notarized Prenuptial Agreement that I provided from the court record in 2016. This is, of course, entirely disregarding the fact that the property that was purchased in 2017 could not have been specifically included in any other theoretical "Settlement Agreement" signed in 2016. I explained that important detail to the Title Insurance Company, but they still insisted that because the Prenuptial Agreement doesn't have "Settlement Agreement" stamped at the top of it and instead states "Prenuptial Agreement", that it must be a separate document that somehow overwrites the Prenuptial Agreement (which explicitly separates community property, etc), and the Warranty Deed which explicitly grants me full 100% ownership in the property that I 100% paid for. All documents are recorded and notarized. So, the problem is obvious. The Title Company is requesting a "Settlement Agreement" that doesn't exist because the court referred to the Prenuptial Agreement as the Settlement Agreement in the Judgment of Divorce. Therefore I cannot provide them the document that doesn't exist and they don't want to close the property sale because they don't have said fictitious document. Here's my question: Can a divorce court judge theoretically overwrite/cancel/revoke a recorded Warranty Deed in a Settlement Agreement? My apologies if this is a little long, but I don't know how else to prove that there is no other document other than the common sense reasoning that I presented here (a settlement agreement dated in 2016 can't refer to a property purchased in 2017), the Prenuptial Agreement separates property anyways and was upheld by the court, and there is a Warranty Deed on record granting me 100% ownership. The only solution I can think of is to demonstrate some legal knowledge regarding how a divorce Judge cannot theoretically revoke a recorded Warranty Deed via Settlement Agreement regardless. My adoptive mother is trying to take my baby away from me causing us so much stress. Posted: 27 Jan 2021 10:17 AM PST I am located in South Carolina. So me and my mom got along just cause she was my mom and I always made her happy when she wanted something from me. Couldn't ever say no or stand on my feet because she would be abusive mentally and physically. But I moved out and made my own life still talking to her and let her be and still saying yes to all the things she asked. My baby is born in June, didn't forbid my mom to keep my little Artemis or see her and so on. Me and my mom would get into discussions if I wanted to do things for my baby that she wouldn't agree with. You know if is me I don't care but my baby is all a different story. I am trying to put my family and in law family together but my mom always find excuses and hate on my mother and father in law and fiancé( is like that from the time I met my man)The last one that blew me off was that cause of Covid-19 I decided to let my mom know about my baby first year birthday months in advance so she couldn't find any excuses (hopefully). I told her is going to be in my mother in law backyard, plenty of space. Keep our distances and safe. My mom disagreed and wanted to do it in a congressional room and she is the one that said that she don't want to do it in a backyard because of covid. In a room we cannot follow all of the covid -19 precautions. So she went on with saying hateful things to my family in law and my man. Of course not truthful things. And I told her stop! No more drama because I had enough of it.Few days later she showed up at my door and wanted to see the baby, and I told her she is taking a nap, totally true and I guess the same day or the day after she called the CPS on us that we use drugs around the baby. So we took the drug test and let the lady look around our apartment and so on. We are waiting on the results but of course those were fake accusations.I called my mom and told her she is out of my life, not seeing the baby. she denied that was her. She was the only one that could have done that because in the past she did so many crazy things just because I disagreed with her. And the few people we have around would never do anything to my baby. But yes after the day I cut her off and let her know she is out she reported us 2 more times. With worst accusations also not true. Called the sheriff to our home and called my man job to make him loose his job. The CPS lady said we are fine, she knows is all fake and the sheriff said she look perfectly fine. So we are good but what can I do to stop her doing all those things even she do them anonymously we know is her. We take her to court? i sue her? What are the costs if I can afford it? A restrain order? How all of this work. What's my next step? [link] [comments] |
Active duty servicemember seeking custody of younger sibling. Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:13 AM PST This is a bit of a long read. I am a woman, age 22, and an active duty service member stationed in Georgia, USA. My younger sister, age 14, is living with her older brother who is currently her legal guardian, age 32, (because our mom passed away and her dad is in prison). They live in Detroit, Michigan. She snuck a boy into the house and was caught. Her older brother was at work at the time but he called me shortly after she was caught to say that he's going to beat her naked (this is the censored version) and take her to the hospital to get virginity tested. He also said that if the test concluded that she has been sexually active he's going to give her over to the state. His mind was made up and there was no talking him out of it, he also said this himself. After getting off the phone with him I called my sister to ask her for her side of the story and to make sure was okay. She told me felt unsafe. I called our aunt, who picked up my sister. When the other children and her brother noticed my sister was no longer in the house, they called me and asked if I knew where she was. Her brother said he was calling the police to have both my sister and our aunt arrested for running away and kidnapping. My aunt and I then called Child Protective Services to make a report about everything. Her brother went to my aunt's house with a group of men and pounded on her door. My aunt took my sister to the police station where they filed another report. Currently there is an child protective services investigation open against my sister's brother. During this investigation my sister is staying at her elder cousin's house, where she also feels unsafe because of the cousin's close ties with her brother. In her most recent conversation with a child protective services worker my sister was told that she has another week to stay at the cousin's house, then she gets to decide if she wants to return to her brother's house or go into foster care. I am traveling to Michigan now to try to fight for custody of my sister. [link] [comments] |
Losing our Farm Lease, What are my rights? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:47 AM PST I have a farm business in Michigan. We've been leasing the same site for 7 years. It has been for sale for the last 3 years with a year to year lease agreement (May-May). The sale finally went through in January. We are still in negotiations but it is on the table that the new owner may ask to have everything gone by July 1. Do we have any rights to crops in the ground which were planted last season and wouldn't be harvested until October? Doctrine of emblements apply here? Or any ag. lawyers in MI to refer to? Just trying to figure out our rights. Any help or thoughts are welcome. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:44 AM PST Hi, I'm in America, Texas to be more specific. I made a logo and have had it on my redbubble store for a few years now and today I found an Instagram post of someone selling my exact design on hats and beanies. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
My old employer copied my signature Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:31 PM PST I live in Colorado Springs, CO. I recently was put into a situation where my employer highly suggested a resignation with the other option that I would be fired soon. I'm under the inclination that there was some malicious intent in this portion, but I'm not as worried about this as I am about the fact that I found out my old employer actually copied my signature from one document and pasted it onto another document to signify that I had seen this document. Normally I wouldn't think too much on this, but now I'm starting to worry about what else they feel comfortable pasting my signature onto. Some background I am a registered behavioral technician and I work with children on the autism spectrum and per my code of ethics under the behavior analyst certification board I'm required to obtain 5 percent of my hours as supervised and to prove this we have documentation to state that yes this happened. I resigned from my company on Thursday January 21 and today I received documents from december 8 and January 14 and they both very very clearly were copy pastings of my signature. I know for a fact I did not sign these documents. My code of ethics states that I first confront the offending party but as I was just basically forced to quit that company, I don't really feel comfortable going to them. Second step is to follow the next legal steps as this is fraud I believe. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
After uncovering multiple issues in my home, my home inspection agency is acting... strange Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:43 AM PST I'm in Ohio and previously posted about concerns in which the seller of a home I just purchased was dishonest about acknowledging a leak under the slab foundation of my home. In doing some research on the matter, I also reached out to my home inspection agency and asked to speak with my inspector to see if he could recall the audible flow of water as documentation that the issue was there during the home inspection. When I contacted the agency, I mentioned the issue I was having with the leak and asked for the inspector's contact information and the woman said that he was no longer with the company, seemingly got frazzled and asked to put me on hold so she could "ensure the right people were aware of my call". She then instructed me to fill out an online claim with the agency and encouraged me to submit a warranty claim under the 90 day warranty they offered that covered water and sewer lines. I filled out the claim and mentioned the issues and that there were always either a dish washer or washing machine running when I was in the house and I received a response back in the claim asking if I had pursued this with the seller and if not, why had I not done this. I explained that I felt this was a sensitive issue (asking the seller to acknowledge that they screwed me over and then asking for money) and that I didn't feel comfortable doing so. Without ever asking me to prove the leak (although I did send them a rough estimate that was provided from a local plumber) they sent me a note saying that they would approve my claim for the water line warranty. When I got the language today, it specifically states " This payment is offered as a full settlement to all disputes related to <inspection agency name> and the above claim(s)." What I feel like this is telling me is that if I cash their check that they send, I cannot pursue any issues with the home inspection agency any further. What's making me uncomfortable is that this agency already rubbed me the wrong way. The home inspector didn't fully inspect the issue with the audible flow as I had asked, just attributing it to the washing machine that was running without taking time to explore further. He also refused to go into the attic as he stated that his size would not allow him to fully navigate it. Due to the fact that the seller still lived there with five other individuals, he was not able to test quite a few things as well saying that the sellers possessions prevented him from testing certain things (it's been determined that the entire home needs to be electrically re-wired). To make matters worse, I scheduled a termite inspection after the home inspection to which an interior and exterior inspection should have occurred. The sellers realtor asked my realtor if they should have expected to see anybody at the house for the inspection, to which they stated that nobody had come to the house that day. Needless to say, I received an inspection report saying that the home was termite free and that both the interior and exterior were inspected. I believe I had a faulty inspector. I believe the termite inspection did not happen. I find it interesting that not even 90 days later the home inspector that worked on my home is no longer with the company and now they're offering to pay out a warranty and stating that the settlement covers all claims and issues I have with the inspection agency. I don't have a lot of extra cash to pursue this legally, but I will find a way to make it happen if I have a leg to stand on. Any thoughts? Thanks reddit. [link] [comments] |
NJ-can I use a secret voice recording of someone in a small claims court? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 10:57 AM PST Specifically this is for someone saying they would give back a security deposit in the voice recording but now refusing to do so. They didn't know I was recording them; they also don't explicitly identify themselves in the recording. Can I still use it? [link] [comments] |
Breaking Lease, Landlord is sabotaging every step. Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:23 AM PST I will try to keep it brief. I signed a year lease in July 2020, after I had already lived there for 3 years. However, I had asked to go month to month because I had put escrow down on a new construction house (to be completed in January) but the Property management company said they do not do that under any circumstance. So instead of being kicked out in a week, I signed the lease fully stating that I was moving in 6 months. That is on the record. Come January, everything about my buying the house is great, and I gave my 30 day notice to be out the end of January. I got everything moved and cleaned. The inspection date and time was sent to me vial mail, and I have the hardcopy. The time was wrong, and they did the inspection without me, which I most assuredly did not agree to. I got the inspection report a full 7 hours before the time it was scheduled for. So I called them and asked what was up. They claimed it was a typo and no fault of theirs (even though it was their document). So now I just have an email of pictures with zero descriptions of what the issue is. However the main issue is that I am still on the hook for rent in Feb, even though I am not living there and do not have the keys. They claim they are showing it, but have not had any interest. I have sent 10 people their way through Craigslist post of my own, made in mid January. It is the best value 3 bedroom t in the college town available. Yet they say no one has applied. One guy has responded to me saying he called but go no answer/reply at all. I asked him to try again today. (this is the only one I happen to know, he, wife, and 3 kids need to find a place to live by Feb so they are motivated). I have asked others if they are just being ignored as well, but have yet to get a response. Do I have a case civilly to show that they are not putting forth effort to fill the lease? And can I take action that they did not offer a reschedule for the inspection? This is in Montana. Thanks in advance. e: I have never missed a payment in the 3.5 years I have lived there, or before. 2nd E: There may be an issue with the submission of an application on their website. One person responded that their application kept erroring. [link] [comments] |
[WA-US] Is my mother taking advantage of my grandmother's estate? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:53 AM PST My grandmother died last week. Due to her stubborn personality, then dementia in her last years, she died with a will but not a very organized plan for her reasonably large estate. She owned a waterfront home in a popular summer vacation spot that was bought 15+ years ago as a business opportunity that would eventually become a home to retire in. We got to visit in the off-season and sometimes special weeks she reserved, and it feels like a family estate. Grandma never made it to those years, and she has several weekly renters booked and more inquiries every day. She ran the business by herself, and I'm assuming she was running it as a sole proprietorship, but have no idea how it was set up legally. It was also not directly mentioned in her will, which essentially says her only surviving daughter (my mom) gets 50% and the remainder is spread across a variety of others, including grandkids like myself. Grandma also treated the business a little too personally (in my opinion), nitpicking normal wear and tear from her renters and filling the home with her own old furniture. Competing rentals in the area have had interior refreshes with modern appliances and furniture, where hers is filled with original everything, and furniture from the 80s. Mom has essentially claimed that her getting 50% should mean that she gets to pick and choose what she wants to add up to 50%, and has claimed this rental home and the associated business to herself, free and clear. The estate is large enough that it's possible the full value is within 50% of the total. Not a big deal to me as the son, as she and I do have a good relationship, and I could personally benefit by helping to run it and continuing to visit from time to time. However, as someone named in the will, I'm not sure that's totally legit. Does she have "first pick" of assets, and gets to decide their value? Additionally, and perhaps even more suspect, relates to the earlier statement that the house itself is dated. Mom wants to buy new washer/dryers, TVs, beds with mattresses, and charge those to the estate. Yes, things are dated, and the house needs some of that, but it feels like it should be "as is". The W/D works, it's just old. The TVs work, they're just old. The issue is further complicated a bit because some renters have paid or given a deposit before Grandma's death, and she didn't use a business account, so that cash is mixed in with her cash assets. Mom's excuse is that she needs to serve this summer's renters, the estate likely won't be settled by then, and has no free cash to make these updates. If Mom is going to be sole inheritor of the home and its associated business (if a legit request), is it also perfectly fine to charge likely $15k or more to the estate to refresh it? Does she have the right to pick and choose what she wants to add up to 50%? The most fair answer is probably to sell the house and dissolve the business, but it really is a nice place in a great area. As family, it would be terrible to lose that getaway and memory. As a named beneficiary, it feels unfair that she gets to solely benefit from the business income (which basically sells itself), yet charge expenses to the estate, lowering my future gift. Bought a car that is missing an advertised feature. What are my options? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:59 AM PST We recently purchased a new vehicle. Both the manufacturer and dealer advertise it has a feature to have custom profiles for up to 5 people. The profiles allow you to click one button to do multiple things like adjust the seats, the screen settings, the audio settings, etc. so it's a fairly big deal with having multiple drivers. When I got it, they said it would activate within 24 hours. Then when it didn't, I checked the manual to ensure it was available (it is). The dealer initially said it should be available, then they said they weren't sure why it wasn't working so they'd look into it. Three weeks later they say I need to bring it in and leave it with them to open a case on it with the manufacturer. They've had it for several days now, and called me to say there is a service alert out saying that the earliest models off the line didn't get it included, but it will be pushed to them in an over the air update "sometime in 2021". I don't think that's acceptable to sell me a car in December 2020 and tell me the feature may not be available until December 2021 while I have already paid for the feature. What are my options here? Edit: This is in Illinois, USA. [link] [comments] |
Can I legally contact the property owner whose tax lien I own to help them? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 09:28 AM PST tl;dr: Can I contact the property owner directly (and anonymously?) to make her aware of a tax lien that she's losing money on? I purchased several tax liens from my county in Colorado in 2018. I recently looked over the property records of the outstanding liens and discovered this odd one. It appears the current owner inherited the property when her father passed away. All other property taxes have been paid, both before and after 2018. It seems she is not aware that she has the lien or she would have paid it also. I could just wait and earn interest until she figures it out, but I'd like to be kind and just let her know she can contact the county and avoid further fines. I'd especially like to do this before the county has me pay $400 to kick the process along in a year or two, which she would be forced to reimburse. Is it legal to contact her directly? Is there a good way to do that anonymously, referring her directly to the county so she doesn't think it's a scam? (She, and everyone else, should only ever pay property taxes straight to the county.) [link] [comments] |
[PA/WV] Sibling arrested for CP, how can I expect this to affect me? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:38 AM PST I just got a call from my mother, my sibling has been arrested for possession of CP. They live in WV, my family and I live in PA. Let me be clear, I do not partake in CP or any other illegal form of pornography. I'm writing this post because I never thought in a million years that anything like this could happen, so I am completely ignorant to the ramifications of this when considering myself and my family. Really don't care what happens to my sibling. Fuck them. Basically what I would like to know is if it's standard to also investigate the families of offenders. The only thing that concerns me is some pirated movies that some of us may have. Nothing else to hide. I don't want my family to suffer any more than they have to, so if anyone has any insight into what to expect, I would appreciate it. [link] [comments] |
Apt Complex Garage Door Fell on my Car Posted: 27 Jan 2021 10:24 AM PST Hello, Wisconsin USA So the other day the apt building garage door fell on my vehicle as I was entering the unit due to it malfunctioning the past few days. They sent a repair technician on Saturday but he only made it worse. The top of my car is dented and the sunroof is damaged too. It is a newer luxury car too. The property manager stated they are not liable for this. What recourse do I have? I am debating whether to spend $1k out of pocket for the scratches and dent repair or to file a claim with my comprehensive auto. I just don't want my rates to go up for something that wasn't my fault. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Garnishment due to Mom's social being on my account (AZ) Posted: 27 Jan 2021 10:18 AM PST I'm 24 years old and financially independent from my mom, but my account at a local credit union was just tapped into by a law firm -- $6000 removed for nothing having anything to do with me. My mom made this account for me when I was a minor but at eighteen when I changed my name and went to the bank to handle things with that, I was certain that the account was under my name exclusively. Where do I go from here? [link] [comments] |
