I'm in software sales and I'm trying to convince this customer that the product I'm selling is rapidly overtaking their existing legacy product. Perhaps I can get any tips on how I can persuade the customer?

Can I hear from some commodity salespeople?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 06:58 PM PST

How do you realistically sell something that is commoditized? Let's say a company uses screws and has been with the same screw supplier for 10 years. Even if your screws were slightly cheaper they might not care. The relationship, trust, convenience is already with the other company. Say your screws are somehow higher quality, they still might not care because they're so used to using the previous ones and have no problems with them. Any differences are probably so marginal they don't really care.

I just can't wrap my head around selling commodities. For the most part it seems like you're not going to convince somebody to change so much as you will be trying to attract people who are already experiencing problems or new customers who have no supplier. But in smaller industries and markets there may be such a limited pool of said people. It just seems like the toughest sales job ever.

    Telemarketing jobs?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 11:14 AM PST

Is telemarketing dying out? Is that still considered part of "sales" jobs?

    How is the pay?

    Pre-product sales

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 05:05 AM PST

Working in a start up where we have proof of concept but require some additional funding in order to launch effectively.

Upon doing some research pre-product sales seems like the best way to go forward, we'd need non-binding letters of intent from our (future) customers.

    Has anybody done this before?

    Best value outbound Calling software

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 07:59 AM PST

Thanks for the support over the last few months!finally landed a biz dev role at a software company!

I wanted to know if anybody could share what software has the best rates for making international calls. At the moment I am using Skype but it seems expensive. I dont need to call north America and most unlimited bundles have that as an option.

    TIA

I SPENT 3 HOURS on the phone to get a prospect to potentially become my client

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 08:43 AM PST

I want to know if there's a way around this.. people often say BUILD RELATIONSHIPS and not introduce your services as the bait in conversations off the bat. Yesterday, I found a prospect on FB and was messaging and then I suggested a call which he was open to doing (but he usually doesn't do) because I had brief conversation with him.

Pretty friendly guy. The call lasted 3 hours but I just spent that getting to know him instead of making it about me. After maybe the 2 hour mark I then made it known as to what I do and how he may benefit from it. He didn't mind taking me on to help him but he jokes and says "OH SO YOU ONLY DID THIS TO GET ME AS YOUR CLIENT"... ofcourse it was a yes but I didn't let him know that lol but now I'm working with him because he was able to tell me the problems he was having not even knowing what my line of work was. Also— his conversation was pretty good so I didn't mind.

What do you think? Get to know potential clients or should I just come out from the jump and let them know WHY I'm reaching out. I don't want to lead them on.

    SMB looking to grow business.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 07:27 PM PST

    Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right sub but here it is.

Small Managed IT services only dealing with B2B. We have been in business for past 5 years and grown to about 60 clients. We acquired all our clients through word of mouth. Now going into new year we want to start to setup a process to grow the business besides word of mouth. My background is technical and with Covid I am just having a hard time coming up with anything as to how to grow the business. Any advise will be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Have you ever worked with clients with disabilities? How was it? Challenges? Technologies/methods used?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 08:42 PM PST

Hi everyone! Super new to this subreddit so please feel free to let me know if there's a better subreddit to post to! I've recently been thinking about the accessibility of sales mostly in the sense of when providing demo's through video call - have you faced any challenges? How have you worked with potential clients with disabilities whether it's visual or hearing or any other disabilities you've come across!

I hope this doesn't come off as offensive in any way - I'm super passionate about product inclusion and wanted to know how individuals have dealt with clients with disabilities and how technology has helped you or been a barrier for you! :)

    Bonusing on inbound leads

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 06:34 PM PST

The owner and I are getting into some disagreements about sales comp plans.

    1. How should company close inbound leads? Have a CSR close them on a cheap salary, or pass them to a higher paid territory rep and give regular bonus on sales?

Edit: it was debated to give new reps first 3-months on bonused inbound leads then after 3 months they only get bonused on new outbound business. Seems just too complex to me but maybe I'm wrong.

Social Sellers: How do I reply?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 04:29 PM PST

My startup is making a B2B platform for unis. Reached out to the president of a uni on LinkedIn with a short description. For context, he is not the one in charge of handling the problem that my startup has built a product for. There's no way his reply is factual and his guard is clearly up to the prospect of even hearing about what the startup does. How would you handle this? I know in selling these days it's helpful to give something free/educational to the customer. Should I ask if he would be open to me giving them tips on how to improve their "app" (that doesn't exist)?

After accepting my LinkedIn request, he sent this: "Hey there. We actually developed out own. Thanks so much for reaching out. All the best....Ken"

Door-to-door people: How successful are you during this pandemic?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 01:40 PM PST

To all the D2D people selling solar, internet, Jesus Christ, ect, how has the responses been at the door? How has this year's check been compared to last year? Abysmal, moderate, flourishing due to everyone being home?

Side note: have you had any outrageous homeowners call the police on you for door knocking during a pandemic? I ask because I've been seeing numerous news stories of police cracking down on D2D in some jurisdictions and denying new solicitors licenses - like this news report

I'm considering switching to D2D in 2021, but my chief concern is lasting covid-19 apprehensions.

    How to contact fashion brands?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 04:47 PM PST

Hey! Thanks for your time. I have a product which I think can make marketing a lot easier for brands and I wanted to start in the fashion industry. What is the best way to contact brands, small or big, and attempt to sell my platform to them. I have done a lot of cold emailing and have gotten a couple responses but this way isn't the best as most of the emails are info or support emails. I'm currently going through LinkedIn and trying combinations of emails until they work to like marketing managers, but idk if this is the best approach.

For someone that does not know have any connections in this field, what is the best way to go?

    Thanks for you help!!

    A good talk track template/format?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 01:44 PM PST

I'm surprised by the lack of intelligent talk track templates, I.e. where the actual format is not a block of text for one script example. I dont see any flow graphs or other smart options where you could maybe click through different answers the prospects can give and your potential responses to them.

Regardless, does anyone have a good template they like to use? Looking to make a PowerPoint or word document including talk tracks.

Wondering how one goes about finding a mentor? What exactly does this mean? I've seen people talk about sales guru types on Linkedin, is that what he meant?

    Any recommendations?

    Two job options, help choose

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 04:10 PM PST

Hello! I'm currently at the final stages with both Cisco & Salesforce. While nothing is official, I expect things to come together quickly this upcoming week. I want to be completely ready to make a decision.

Both jobs are account managing roles, but Cisco would be paying about 20% more. The culture of Salesforce seems extremely compelling and I'm leaning in that direction. Money is about the 5th most important thing if I'm being honest... product & culture all day long.

Can anyone chime in on some thoughts/advice for a younger sales rep looking to join a multi-billion dollar company for the first time? What company would you be interested in?

    Thanks!

3 Tips To Increase Sales Conversion

    Posted: 06 Dec 2020 12:38 AM PST

    1. Never say thank you after you closed the sale, say "congratulations"

    2. Do not talk about the product too much, build relationships with your prospect.

    3. Have genuine conversations with your prospects. Selling is about identifying and satisfying needs.

Getting a sales job the old fashioned way still reliable ?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2020 11:54 AM PST

I used "old fashioned way" for lack of a better term. Anyways, I'll make this quick for you all.

I've been applying to sales jobs online recently, no luck. I do not have the most impressive resume. However, I'm super confident in my speaking and persuasive abilities. I just know that if I could actually speak to someone I'd be able to get a job.

    Here's my plan:

    1. Print resumes
    2. Walk around town going into businesses asking if they have a sales department.
    3. Try and speak with sales director or whoever is in charge or atleast try to get a phone number/email.

I'm doing it regardless of what you guys say, but I was just wondering if anyone has experience doing this and maybe some tips?
