Struggling this week to get anything done. Low productivity and motivation

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:09 AM PST

Anyone else feel their productivity rate come to a screeching halt? I know the election has been a huge influence in my productivity but also just in general this week has been awful for me. I have struggled to do pretty much anything. Even logging basic calls into our CRM seems like a huge chore. I've basically been on autopilot this week and have only been answering emails/calls, but haven't extended much effort in anything beyond that.

Anyone else feel this way this week? How can I reset myself for next week? I feel kind of lousy with my performance this but my overall motivation is pretty much at a 0.

    Job Offer/Comp Plan feedback

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:39 AM PST

Hi guys, about to be offered a sales manager position for NA territory. Annual territory sales is around 10m-15m. Based in Canada and industry is in B2B parts sales to OEMs.

Comp structure to be offered is:

    1. Base: 70k
    2. Commission
      1. 0.25% on revenue for accounts with YOY growth
      2. 0.3% of Gross Margin (usually around 20%) for accounts with YOY growth
      3. 500 bonus for any new customers with a >15k PO
      4. 1000 bonus for qualifying product with the customer

They mentioned that the total commission payout will probably range from 20k to 50k depending on performance.

I'm very young with no direct experience in sales but I do have a lot of valuable international experience in sales operations. The company is basically hiring me based on the competence that I have proven in a current contract position.

I was hoping for a higher base salary around 80k-100k.

All in all does this seem like a fair comp plan? Anything I should be aware of or look to clarify?

First post here, hoping you all could brainstorm with me.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 11:18 AM PST

So I am an account executive for a marketing agency. We currently do work with one of the largest suppliers of HVAC equipment in America. Specifically, out of the 800 individual family companies, we work with the largest, top seller of this family. I'll call this company X. They perform significantly better than the rest because they use us for marketing. The rest use the corporate marketing package which sucks.

What I need help with is coming up with a referral plan leveraging Company X to get all other interested in using us as well. Every single company knows the one we work with and respects the CEO, they are highlighted by corporate pretty much every month. In the past I have sent out email blasts / cold calls about updating their websites to the one like Company X, and out of 799 companies, I got 26 meetings, 3 potential clients as of now. But I feel like there could be a better way. What are your ideas.

How to get in touch with Shopify store owners for selling software?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:05 AM PST

I have built a prototype of software that will help Shopify store owners boost sales. I am trying to validate demand whether market exists. I posted to Shopify forum but no one replies there.

Almost every store has listed customer service emails on the store. Sending email to customer service or calling them is futile as they either don't reply or say they are not decision makers.

Is there a way to contact Shopify store owners to sell software? I am posting here to see if anyone has done that and can help me.

It feels like customers I handle are already determined to disconnect

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 07:27 AM PST

So yesterday was odd. The majority of my customers, I feel, have already come in predisposed to disconnect services— I work in retentions for a call center that does cable/internet/phone stuff. Any particular way to change their mind that works for you guys? I know I have product stuff down pat, I just need to find a way to start the save process.

Unspoken challenges of being a saleswoman?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 05:05 AM PST

Reason I ask is that there are more salesmen than saleswoman. What's the stigma? If saleswomen do well, why aren't there more?

    Seeking advice on switching industries

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 10:51 AM PST

I have a job opp to become head of sales at a CPG company - I'm currently sales manager at a software company.

What are your experiences in major industry shifts? Does working in a variety of industries as a sales leader dilute your value in those industries respectively, or do you think it adds to your marketability and toolkit?

The risk seems worth it given the fact that the company is doing well and poised for growth, but I also don't want to derail my current career path in tech if it's going to make me see unfocused or scattered in terms of my trajectory.

Any lessons learned from similar experiences are greatly welcomed!

How good are you at building rapport?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 06:01 AM PST

Do you feel it's necessary to build rapport before beginning your sales pitch? Do you find that building rapport comes naturally to you & you can pretty much find something to talk about with anybody? Do you feel you're naturally a people person and love to talk and engage with others? And finally, do you feel you use the same rapport building skills in your social life?

Need advice on lead gen for a niche subset of doctors

I hope this is the right subreddit for this question- I'm looking to generate as comprehensive a list as possible for doctors/hospitals/clinics who treat patients on medical liens- or with a focus on auto injury etc. Does anyone know what service I can use to generate this/have any ideas on how I can go about generating this on my own? Price is really not an issue here

My company is retroactively lowering my commission payout after deals were booked claiming they made a “mistake” on my prior comp plan.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 12:09 PM PST

After being provided my commission statement for the past quarter I noticed my payout was suspiciously low. After crunching the numbers it came out to thousands of dollars less than what I was owed based on the plan I signed.

When I inquired with our team, they claimed the prior plan I was issued was a mistake and that my quarterly commissions were now retroactively being calculated based on a new "correct" plan. It includes a commission rate significantly lower than what was on the plan I signed combined with an even higher quota, all retroactive to the beginning of the quarter.

My company, like many others, reserves the right to change the commission plans at any time. However, the new plan doc they provided me was approved by on the final day of the quarter and after I had booked the revenue for which I was owed these commissions. Neither myself or my manager have seen or signed this plan before.

I like this company and am successful so I'd like to be able to continue working here, but not if I can have my earnings retroactively changed. If I accept this, what says they can't do this after my next good quarter? I've never had something like this happen to me before, and it's rubbing me the wrong way.

What recourse do I have, if any?

Anyone fired after not logging activity?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 06:17 PM PST

Silly question, sorry guys. I'm an AE at a tech company, and I've been here around a year. I have a very solid pipeline, and I'm in the top 3 after already hitting my yearly quota this year last month. I am not the most organized person, and realized a lot of things aren't logging so salesforce is looking super super bare. I know this isn't a good look. I went in today and cleaned a LOT of stuff up, but has anyone been fired for simply not logging activity but hitting their quota? Am I just in a super intense work environment that this is hanging over my head?

    Hi guys,

Been around the block a long time but pretty new to the technology thing. Quick brief- After decades of working in engineering I've recently started working as a Financial Advisor and to say the industry has changed (digitally) would be an understatement.

Ive recently seen LinkedIn ads but have no idea how they function or if they have a great ROI. I'd like to start with a small-ish budget and would genuinely appreciate someones two cents. Similarly if any one has any great (viable) options for marketing, I would be thanking you from the bottom of my heart

    How to find salespeople

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 09:34 AM PST

how/where do I go about finding people that will sell products? (commission of course)

We manufacture eco-friendly to-go containers, drink carriers, cups, etc... which are in demand right now due to covid and increased take-out commerce.

We could sell so much more if we had more salespeople getting our products in front of distributors and restaurants.

is there some type of forum I could post to that would help connect me to people that have these skills?

    ADP Outside Sales

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 08:05 AM PST

I will be interviewing for ADP, Outside Sales role. The base for this position is ~$37k. The ADP rep. I spoke with for the phone interview stated that the base + commission will exceed $60k in my first year. Does this sound realistic? This would be my first sales position so I'm still unsure of what to expect as far as commission. I'm eager to get into sales but I'm concerned about taking a pay decrease... For reference I make ~$45k now in a non-sales role

Besides compensation expectations, any other advice to share? Thanks

For those who transitioned from inside/field sales to customer success, how has it been for you?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 10:48 PM PST

My company has mentioned about some possible customer success roles opening up and I was thinking about applying. Curious to understand how other folks experiences have been transitioning from inside/outside sales to customer success, and even vice versa.

I'm definitely more of a farmer persona rather than a hunter even though I do a lot of outbound prospecting in my current gig as a BDR. Been doing sales development for a few years so I'm tryna break out of SDR/BDR land.

Best Companies/Industries to Learn B2B Prospecting/Business Development skills for SMB Accounts

    Posted: 06 Nov 2020 06:00 AM PST

I've been in sales a long time, and pretty much run my own sales purely off referrals. Now that I run my own business it's been quite a while since I did any real prospecting that someone new to my industry,(Commercial Insurance) would need to do.

When hiring newbies I'd like to set them up for success, so generating sales opportunities within the SMB market is pretty much the most important skill from the get go.

If you were looking to hire from other entry level sales verticals , (for the sake of an example debt collection, POS Business Vendor sales, Retail, copier sales, etc)....which industries do you think train people exceptionally well in B2B appointment setting and managing their sales funnel for SMB type accounts?

If you had to start as a brand new person to sales, which company or industry would you want to start in to hone your skills the quickest to get to where you are today faster?

SDR supporting 3 AEs, best one with the best territory treats me poorly.

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 08:36 PM PST

So I work for a well-funded SaaS company in an SDR role (7 months in, mixture of inbound and outbound) and support 3 AEs, all on the enterprise level and I am an SDR working their territories. 2 of my AEs I get along really well with in the sense that they move my opps fast, are cordial with me, have helped me develop, and even put in good words to me to leadership. One even told the CEO how good I am and I am at a medium sized company.

One AE I support is the most senior AE at the company and she has the best territory by far. I mean she has at least 200 more accounts in her patch than the other AEs because she has an international patch as well. She is a French woman who speaks Italian, German, Spanish, and obviously French.

Now occasionally, we have overlap with AEs and SDRs too where some of my AEs get opps from other SDRs and I occasionally get an opp or two that goes to other AEs. Usually this happens like 3 or 4 times a quarter, often with inbounds.

I've noticed that the best AE at the company (usually year by year top performer, been there 5 years) with the most pull with leadership just treats me poorly and I have no idea how to treat this. On our weekly syncs, she is usually real cynical and kind of undermines most opps I send her way which is not really what worries me, it is something else.

Usually I would not care but this is where it gets really bad to where I posted this thread, I notice that other SDRs she gets opps from she seems to move the opps faster. One of my opportunities took a week to even get accepted despite us having had the meeting but she had a minuscule opportunity this week from another SDR, moved it quickly to a qualified stage.

It made me a bit livid because it was an opp for under 20k (she never takes opps from me this small in size and when she does, it is a more bite your tongue moment). I had a meeting the same day with her for an opp that was supposed to be valued at 50k, she has still not accepted or moved it after a few days. That's the worst part, I feel like other SDRs who occasionally throw opps her way get theirs moved way faster and quicker.

Sometimes, I want to make my other AEs look good instead of her but their territory isn't nearly half as good. If it was equal, I'd focus more on AEs I feel like want me to succeed but she has such an unfair advantage.

I also fear that she might not be saying the best things about me to company leadership because in the summer it was tough for me to get opps in Europe. I've asked her to let me know what I can do better and she said "you're doing all the right things yeah". Even told me about upcoming QBRs that "oh yeah, me and the VP? We don't really talk about you, they just care about facts".

What do I do here? I have kept this hidden from my manager and everyone but I really do feel like I am being thrown under the bus or getting the short end of the stick by the best AE at the company.

    VAR Reps Prospecting Strategy

    Posted: 05 Nov 2020 02:58 PM PST

To all the VAR reps out there,

How has prospecting been for you over the past 6 months? Where are you seeing the most success with engaging new accounts?

I work at a midsize VAR that primarily sells on-prem solutions like HCI, VDI, servers etc. The true value we bring to our customers is our bench of engineers that are absolute wizards with the technology from Dell/HPE/VMWare/Veeam and many more.

My role is completely a hunter role and as of late I've been having a ton of difficulty getting a hold of prospects or landing meetings. My typical approach is cold calling, a quick pitch, and ask for a meeting. Email has been completely dead for me. We were hosting webinars but that trend has quickly faded too as everyone else is doing the same. Just looking for insight from some other VAR reps on how they're dealing with this lately.
