Clueless and scared as fuck right now Posted: 05 Nov 2020 10:12 PM PST I am 18 years old, and just had a not at fault accident. I was heading straight down a street, and an Amazon truck pulled out of the warehouse parking lot, and tried to turn left on to traffic. I told insurance that I was alone, but I had other passengers in the car. I lied because I was scared of my parents grounding me even more because for whatever reason they don't want me driving friends. My dad was right beside me when I called my insurance. I just called my adjuster, and left a message and told the truth since it is late. One of my passengers is now experiencing head trauma, and the reason I didn't file a police report was because they were fine initially, but now are experiencing pain. What should I do and what will happen? [link] [comments] |
Do you think I can get my melasma covered by insurance if it causes gender dysphoria? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 03:32 PM PST I'm a cis woman but I have very bad melasma, it's around my mouth and gives me a five a clock shadow. I've been tormented by this and get clocked as a man a lot because of it, I honestly get suicidal because of it. I already have a masculine face so having this in addition to it makes me look like a man almost. My insurance covers all the essential procedures for transgender people with gender dysphoria to feel like the gender they believe they are but do you think I'll be able to get this covered so I can actually feel like a woman? I've taken a razor to my face, burned my face with chemical peels in an effort to get rid of this skin condition but apparently, it's cosmetic? I'm gonna petition to get this covered, do you think it's possible? I live in MN, I want to get deep chemical peels covered by insurance to remove all the discoloration around my chin and mustache area. [link] [comments] |

Child birth at end of year - insurance questions Posted: 05 Nov 2020 01:54 PM PST This is our first child so I am unsure of how this will work: - Due to gestational diabetes my wife will be induced on the night of December 28th. Our doctor said the baby should be born on December 29th. - We have a high deductible health insurance plan ($6500) but it covers 100% of costs after deductible is met -We have already paid the OB doctor the delivery fee up front (they called it global billing). They said they send that through our insurance once the baby is born. My question is - what happens if the hospital stay ends up running into 2021 by a day or two(due to C-section or complication)? Will the whole stay end up being billed in 2021 so we have to meet the deductible again? We are basically trying to not have to pay the deductible twice for this. We have already almost met the deductible for 2020. [link] [comments] |
HOA Not Approving Roofing Insurance Funds Posted: 05 Nov 2020 07:28 AM PST Hey all! I have been trying to find another situation like ours but have been unable to so I thought I would post here. My wife and I recently bought a condo in Cedar Rapids, IA (not sharing any walls with other units and sharing part of a garage walkway roof) and we had some damage from the Derecho (140+ winds) so we needed to get a new roof that covers our main house and not the garage/garage walkway roof. Our HOA has insurance covering just the exterior of the 4 units. We got approximately 19k in just roof damage funds that went into the HOA funds. The other condos (4 total units) had little damage while ours is a total tear-off. The problem we are running into is our 4 units are part of an HOA and after getting the insurance claim back, we reached out to a Construction/Roofing company with our full broken down insurance claim, they sent back a quote for quote bid and we accepted and said we would take it up with the HOA. We had the HOA meeting, all agreed to go ahead with the Construction/Roofing company and we thought all was well. Jump forward a couple of weeks, the Construction/Roofing company is now an issue with the HOA because of the timeline. The Construction/Roofing company is not able to get to our house because of how much work they already have in the area until early Spring. That was fine with us and even said this at the meeting, where this all was approved to move forward. The HOA has found another roofing company this is coming way under bid (about 5k less than our Construction/Roofing company). The HOA claims that we are now going to use this company instead of the one we brought to the HOA. Problem is, they seem not to be licensed to complete the work in the state of Iowa (Red flag #1), came in severely under the other bid (Red Flag #2), and said they can complete the work this week (Red Flag #3 considering I do not think you can pull a building permit that fast). Safe to say we do not want their company doing a total tear-off and replacement of our roof. The HOA is saying that if we get the work done by our Construction/Roofing company, they will not approve the funds. Are they allowed to do so? There is line by line items stating what funds are used for what sections of the condo's (Our coming out to about 11k). They are wanting to go with someone cheaper to have the remaining funds "for a rainy day". Is there anything special about insurance coverage in the state of Iowa stating they are not allowed to withhold these funds from us? This seems like fraud to me and we just want our roof to be done right and legally. This HOA's bylaws were last written in 1978 but this is the essence of the rules that apply to this scenario.
Nothing in the bylaws does it state what to do with insurance claim funds. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Anyone have any experience with the Robison Group (an SIU/investigation company)? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 12:13 PM PST I filed a claim recently and it looks like my insurance company referred my case to them. From some basic researching online it appears that they are some kind of investigative group, but I can't find any other information as to what they do and who they are. I'm aware that insurance companies don't do this unless they feel there is something worth looking deeper into. Although I believe I've done nothing wrong, I still want to be prepared and know what to expect. Does anyone have any experience with this group and how they operate? [link] [comments] |
(WA) At-Fault Driver's Insurance not paying for equivalent car rental Posted: 05 Nov 2020 01:00 PM PST We were recently in a car accident. A driver lost traction around a 90-degree curve on a rainy day and crossed 2 lanes to hit us head-on. The other driver was 100% at fault, uncontested by the driver to their insurance and the police report. Our car is not drive-able. The other driver's insurance (AFI) is setting up a rental for a standard sized car. Our car is a hatchback, and we very much need the full amount of space for transporting our 2 large dogs to daycare, and small furniture as we are in the process of moving. The rental company that AFI chose does not have standard hatchbacks, and AFI is refusing to provide a vehicle with the equivalent amount of cargo space that ours has. What are our options here? Insurance company referred contractor, floor damaged, no responsibility for homeowners insurance? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 06:37 PM PST (CA) I had a water leak. The homeowners insurance company sent a remediation company that pulled up my vinyl plank flooring, dried, sterilized the flooring and stated that all the planks could be reused. The insurance referred a contractor. I asked him if all of the planks could be re-used and he said yes without looking at each plank. The contractor had subcontractors replace the flooring. One plank is clearly dented, the edges of several do not lie flat and some seams show (they didn't before it was taken up). It was an expensive f,oozing. I asked the insurance company if I have any recourse or if I make final payment, does that close the claim? The adjuster sent me this message:
Does the insurance company have no additional responsibility? [link] [comments] |
Do car insurers require proof if job goes from commute to work from home? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 06:07 PM PST Edit: I live in Central New York and just changed insurers last January. My company is thinking about telecommuting soon and wondered if it's worth updating my policy for fewer miles driven. [link] [comments] |
Toyota Avalon 2000 XLS 300K KM. ( not miles ) Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:55 PM PST Hi, Recently , someone backed up into my passenger back side door and made a small dent but still a dent. My insurance company told me its 2600CAD$ just to replace the door bcuz its hard to find the doors, and decided they can declare the car a total loss and give me the value of the car 2916CAD$. Im debating if this is a good deal? the car needs a new muffler but isnt that bad and its still in great shape, i guess the car is such a great car its hard to replace, but if anyone can guide me into figuring out if i should do this? that would help Quebec, canada thanks [link] [comments] |
Wife and I (under 25) moving to WA from MO, how should we approach our car insurance? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 05:21 PM PST Hi! My wife and I (both under 25) are currently trying to figure out some insurance issues and we wanted to ask the subreddit for advice and help. My wife is currently out of the country and I am moving all our stuff from Missouri to Washington state in less than a weeks and a half. I'll be driving her car with our stuff. About more than week ago, the insurance for her car expired and we are currently trying to find new insurance for the car and here is where things got complicated. The car is registered under my wife's name and has a Kansas registration. (I was only under her insurance) We have discussed putting her car under Washington insurance but we don't know if she should do it (via procuration, me signing for her) and add me on the insurance or I should do it and I add her to the insurance. Another thing is that we don't even know if it's legal to do any of this. We don't want to commit fraud, we just want to make sure that we're doing this right. What would be the most sensical/legal option? Thanks! EDIT: Should've been more specific. Her previous didn't technically expire, it's just that we didn't renew it and didn't want to pay the renewal fee and then end up changing insurance and paying an extra fee afterwards. And my wife will be out of the country for a couple months so I can't really wait for her to come back to sign insurance. [link] [comments] |
Moved states - new job requires travel, need clarification. Posted: 05 Nov 2020 04:55 PM PST Hello, I appreciate any help we may receive. My wife and I are in the process of moving from WI to IN. I have been living/working in Indiana for two weeks, my wife will be moving to Indiana this weekend. We currently have a Geico Auto policy with our WI information (address, commute miles, vehicle use, etc.) I have a traditional office job; I commute in the mornings and evenings and my vehicle sits in a company lot during the day. My wife is in agricultural sales/consulting, meaning her new job will have her travelling to clients (farmers on their own farms) around the state. Her company reimburses for expenses incurred, but she is to use her own vehicle to meet with these clients. Occasionally she will deliver product to the farms in addition to her onsite consulting. I want to make sure we have the correct policy for our intended application. My confusion comes in with my wife not having a traditional commute, but instead using her own vehicle for company use. When going through online quotes, I see the vehicle use options as "business/commercial", "commute to/from work", "pleasure". How would we best classify our vehicle use? We will switch vehicles on occasion, so I want to make sure both are covered in the event something happens as she is travelling to a client. Also, we will try to best estimate daily miles driven to have an accurate representation of the amount of travel. [link] [comments] |
Just Got Horrible Health Insurance News Posted: 05 Nov 2020 03:29 PM PST Hi Guys, We would love some help. I'm going to try and explain this as best as I can. My wife and I just got a letter explaining something called The Birthday Rule. Has anyone heard of this? Apparently what it means is that - if you're married with children then your children have to be covered under the spouse whose birthday comes first in a year. As long as you both have health plans. My wife was born in Sep. I was born in Dec. Our kids have always been under my plan - as it's a better plan. Motion Picture Industry (Anthem Blue Cross) Insurance - as I work in the Film Industry. My wife is a public school teacher (and we don't take care of our teachers) so hers isn't quite as good. Hers is a Blue Cross HMO. When we had our first child - four years ago - we added her to my insurance. We set it up with someone on the phone - and filled out a form - and have paid the premiums for four years. With an in network pediatrician that we love. And knows our kids well. Never at any point did anyone at MPI inform us of this "birthday rule". And that our children HAVE to be on my spouse's health insurance. And no one - for four years - has ever told us this. I had a son a few weeks ago - and I added him to my coverage as well. No problem. I even paid the premium. A week later we get a letter - informing us of this birthday rule. For the first time. So we phoned up and it turns out that not only should our children have never been covered by my health plan - but that they are going to try and come after us for the past four years of health care my daughter has received. This would be crippling to us. No one we've since spoken with has ever heard of this rule. And we have a lot of friends with kids. No one seems to know about it. When I got married - we tried to add my wife to my plan. They asked if she worked and had insurance etc. We said yes and they said they couldn't add her. She had to use her own plan. Okay, so she always has. Why wouldn't they ask these questions when we added our children? How would we ever know to ask them about some rule we've never heard of? And how could we be now liable for all of these past bills? 2020 has been horrible and this is just another stressor that is worrying the heck out of us. We are grateful that we have jobs and wonderful, healthy, children. But are so worried about this situation right now that any advice would help. As we have a newborn - we have appts every two weeks and have no idea where to take him now. As our pediatrician is not in my wife's network. But we are fine to take my kids off of MPI. But as we both work, have unions, and have health insurance - I just don't see how we could have to pay all of these bills out of pocket? Thanks. Ugh and Blah. [link] [comments] |
Rear ended and contacted insurance Posted: 05 Nov 2020 02:51 PM PST Hello, thanks to everyone who gave advice on this sub, I have contacted my insurance company to file a claim for the person who rear ended me. However, at the scene I chose not to file a police report. I was not at fault at all, and was just hit at a median while at a stop by him. Is the damage to my rear bumper, his front bumper, and my statement enough evidence to determine that I was not at fault? Edit: I am located in Florida [link] [comments] |
In network hospital || Out of network Doctor Posted: 05 Nov 2020 01:36 PM PST [California] Couple months back I took a fall and had to get my dislocated elbow popped back in. I went to a ER in the insurance network. Months later I got a bill for $3k+ because a doctor that helped popped my elbow back in was out of network. I'm confused because I don't know how I was supposed to know this. I've appealed this but curious if anyone has experience dealing with in network hospital but out of network doctors. I'm getting this doctors third party collection agency calling me saying "we can offer you a discount..just please pay up!" COVID has hurt me financially and I have a hard time coughing up $3,000, especially because I'm unemployed. Also I'm kinda thinking that if this third party wants to come and collect and report to credit agencies...then let them do that...I have to buy food and pay rent. [link] [comments] |
[NY P&C] Kaplan Qbank vs. CompuCram for exam prep Posted: 05 Nov 2020 09:47 AM PST They both go for the same price, however CompuCram seems to be having a 20% off sale, which I am learning towards unless Kaplan Qbank is known to be exceptionally better at exam prep? (I already passed the pre-licensing course, just looking for more practice.) [link] [comments] |
Permissive driver on someone who only has a driving permit? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 09:25 AM PST Hi, i'm not sure if this is the place to post this but my buddy and I just got into a car accident and we don't own the car, its owned by my friend's aunt who let him borrow it while he practices driving. He only has a driving permit and I currently don't have a license of my own when I was in the car. I know its stupid and dumb to be driving without a license, thats on us. I wanted to ask though if insurance would cover for the damages if he wasn't driving with someone that has a license. The car itself is full coverage, and the other car was also pretty banged up as well. Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. Edit: This is in california, bay area. Edit 2: Insurance provider is Triple A, full coverage. [link] [comments] |
Car insurance refusing to pay for repairs because there might be hidden damage? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 01:03 PM PST So a couple of days ago my husband had an accident; insurance has determined he is not at fault (if that matters). The damage was all done to the front bumper and headlight, the airbags didn't deploy, and the car still runs. In Alabama, a car has to be totaled if the amount of damage exceeds 75% of the car's value, basically. According to insurance, our car is valued at $4931, which means that repairs up to $3698.25 should be covered, right? And since the repairs come to $3289.44 , it should be fixed, right? Nope, insurance company wants to total it. When I asked why, the response I got was: "Due to the amount being very close to the $3698.25 and the estimate not accounting for expected hidden/unseen damage the decision was made to total the vehicle. At this point if the repairs are started which would consist of starting with the teardown the repairs would come to a stop and a supplemental estimate would be generated confirming the same outcome. " Is there any point in fighting this? Can they do this? We'd really rather get the car fixed if we can. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Nov 2020 08:29 AM PST I was recently in a auto accident where the other party intentionally pit maneuvered me and spun me out proof with police report and video evidence. I am looking for advice in what I should do next and if I should hire a lawyer to looking into his intentional act of if spinning me out? Also the car was hit on the rear quarter panel and Mitsubishi only made the car for one year and the replacement part can not be found. What happens if insurance can not find the part to fix the car? Do they total it? With him being at fault the car a lot of aftermarket parts and new drivetrain will his insurance have to compensate for those item if I have proof of those items being installed. If not am I allowed to replace those parts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Nov 2020 11:26 AM PST When she lied, her insurance denied accountability. The result was I had to pay my deductible to the rental company ($1000). This was Q1 2020. Is there anything I can do in small claims court? (California) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Nov 2020 02:33 PM PST Someone stole a Mercedes, and drove it into the water at the entrance of our harbor. We did not see it, since it was totally submerged. We hit it with our boat, and incurred damage. Would we have any type of claim with the car owner's insurance? [link] [comments] |
A guy hit my parked car and the insurance information he gave me was not effective yet Posted: 05 Nov 2020 10:28 AM PST Basically, my car was parked, I come to my car after hearing some yelling outside and I realize the guy yelling hit my car. I get his information and call the police to get a police report. Turns out, the insurance he provided me wasn't effective until the day after the accident. I already spoke to my insurance and I could get repairs but would have to pay deductible upfront that they can later get from his insurance. so I tried calling his insurance, but he wasn't covered on the day of the accident. Any advice as to what I should do? The insurance agent told me she would contact me if she finds out if he had insurance at all on the day of the accident. [link] [comments] |
Can I still have my Insurance cover my paint job if I have replaced some parts? Posted: 05 Nov 2020 10:20 AM PST Hi guys, first post on this sub. I live in Los Angeles, CA. About 4 years ago on Halloween night, I had my car parked outside a friends narrow street over night. In the morning there was a huge dent on my driver side that stretched from the fender all the way to the driver door. Being naive as hell and the fact that this was my first car, I did not know that my car insurance could cover this damage. I went on for the next 2 years with a dented car. A friend then pointed out that my full coverage can cover the repair. I reluctantly filed a claim because of the fear of having to pay out of pocket. My insurance covers $1000 collision deductible. Not sure what that means exactly but seeing $1000 was enough to scare me off to never follow up with my insurance. This caused them to close my claim. 2 years later and some cash saved, I manage to find a fender and door from the junk yard. Only problem is my car is white and the parts i found are dark silver. I don't really want to be driving around with a Frankenstein car though.. Is there any way I can go about getting a fresh paint job through my insurance? Can I use the same closed claim to do this? Edit: location [link] [comments] |
