Why don't more people explore careers in Insurance?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 04:56 PM PDT

Upcoming grad in December that was recently offered a FT position as an UW.

Yes, Insurance isn't the sexiest industry... but it's largely recession proof (stable employment), pays okay (in corporate roles), has pretty good benefits, and to me is a very interesting industry (at least much more interesting than Corporate Finance/Accounting/Engineering/etc.). But for some reason, is not very popular to my fellow college peers. In fact, as a business student, I've encountered exactly 0 people interested in a career in Insurance.

    What gives?

Help me figure out a market for cargo (trucking)

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 03:05 AM PDT

Looking for cargo insurance for auto hauler that would include diminutive value/constructive coverage for new vehicles. I sent it to one MGA and their Lloyd's syndicate is acting like a standard carrier. No claims, No vehicle violations, 10+ years of CDL experience. Any one have any markets that will take this? Tennessee Business. Auto Hauler Diminished Value - While cargo insurance can cover the cost of repairing damaged vehicles, it does not cover diminution, which is the loss (to the dealer) for the reduced value of a vehicle that has been damaged and repaired. Auto hauler diminished value coverage can cover this gap. This coverage seems to only be avaliable via programs with specific agents.

    Confused about phone insurance

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 02:39 AM PDT

I have a phone that is 37 months old and can't find anyone that will insure it for me. Is there any company that offers insurance if your phone is this old.

To clarify. I purchased the phone 37 months ago. It is in perfect condition. I had to cancel my old insurance a few months ago due to financial issues. Now need another one.

    I am from London, England.

    Thanks

Not at fault in accident/other driver's insurance co. being sketchy

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 12:12 PM PDT

First, please let me apologize, as I don't exactly know the proper wording for some of the things I'm about to describe, but I will do the best I can.

On the 12th of October, I was in an accident where the other driver was at fault. The FR10 says he contributed to the collision and I did not. He was driving a work vehicle, so this is not his personal vehicle or his personal insurance that I'm dealing with. I called this insurance company and told them I wanted to file a claim and gave them all the information they needed, as well as sent the FR10. They told me they'd call me back in a few minutes with a claim number. They never called back.

I called them back on the 13th of October and the woman on the phone said they were having trouble getting in touch with the driver and couldn't give a claim number yet, but assured me I'd have one by lunch time and they'd call me back. No call back.

Called on the 14th of October, no answer. Left voicemail. No call back. I figured surely they were just working on the issue and they'd get in touch with me when they had my claim number, but I've never dealt with this before so I'm really not sure what's going on.

Fast forward to today (I've been sick, so haven't been able to give them a call. However, during this time, they have not reached out to me at all.) I call today and explain the situation..this is the same girl I've spoken to every other time I've called. She has no idea what I'm talking about and can't seem to pull anything up in her system. I tell her I'll send the FR10 to her again and we hang up, I send her the FR10 through e-mail requesting a claim number as soon as she can. A few minutes pass and I get a phone call from the company the guy was driving for, not the insurance company. At first, he tries to tell me his driver isn't at fault. I tell him I'm looking right at the FR10 that says otherwise and he puts me on hold. He finally comes back and tells me I'm right. He tells me he wants me to get an estimate for the damage and he'll send me a check.

My question here is, is this normal? It seems a little weird to me, but again, I've never dealt with anything like this before. What are the pros and cons to just letting this guy send me a check after I get an estimate? Should I just talk to my own insurance agent and let him handle this? Any input is greatly appreciated, and again, I apologize if I sound dumb. I'm just so unfamiliar with this stuff.

    Question about GAP

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 01:04 AM PDT

My truck was stolen last night. For the past few months I've put double or even more towards the payoff. Will I see that money? Or is it counted purely as what I paid on the loan, and only the difference is covered? I have GAP and full coverage insurance.

    Texas if it matters

    Thanks!

What happens when insurance only covers one of two procedures in a single surgery?

Are prescription drugs that insurance covers the same price at every pharmacy and I shouldn't bother price shopping?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:17 PM PDT

We're paying about $60 a month right now, all the drugs are covered by insurance. We're wondering if it'll be cheaper to transfer it from Rite Aid to a closer pharmacy or is it going to be the same price for us out of pocket? And if I want to price shop, how would I know the after insurance price at other pharmacies?

What kind of homeowners policy should we have?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:43 PM PDT

    (illinois)

My husband and I have been in our townhouse 12 years and I'm fairly positive we are overpaying on our homeowners insurance. We have an association that covers all exterior maintenance, roof, siding, etc. Our current policy is with State Farm (had it the entirety of living here) and my husband bought it when he was 24 and super naive - aka he let his dad's agent set it all up for him.

In reviewing the policy now after getting yet another escrow shortage notice for the year, I noticed that we have a homeowners policy rather than a condo policy which seems much much cheaper (we are paying $1400 a year for our policy with 1 claim in the past 12 years, other carriers are quoting me ~$800 a year.)

What type of policy do we need? Looks like we have an HW-2113 whatever that means. I am hesitant to call the agent because he's been mostly unhelpful throughout the years, but is a family friend of my FIL so here we are.

    [NJ] Need Condo Insurance advice

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:50 PM PDT

Hello, Hoping to get some clarity and advice. I live in a duplex (2 houses joined by a common wall). But on paper the duplex is classified as a Condominium(common in my area due to zoning laws). So my neighbor and I have been sharing the cost on a Condo Association Master policy and each of us get HO6s to cover individual belongs and such. My neighbor recently moved out and the new neighbors are from another state and find this process odd and expensive. New neighbors refused to pay for a master policy and insist on just getting individual HO3s to cover everything. From what I have been reading, this doesn't feel right to me, But apparently another insurance company told him it's ok. But if I read the Condominium Act (NJ) correctly, the condo association (me and my neighbor) need to maintain an insurance policy(master policy) or would HO3s work?

My question is can individual HO3s replace the master policy? My neighbor is threatening to not pay master policy and just get HO3s. I am also having a hard time getting straight answer from the insurance companies because they are just sales people and not experts.

Thanks for advance for comments and answers.

Hypothetically if someone decides to buy state minimum insurance coverage and never has a lapse in coverage, does that raise insurance premiums? (Ohio)

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 07:12 PM PDT

Hypothetically someone with auto insurance who lives in Ohio decides to only buy state minimum insurance for years on end, they never have a lapse in coverage, never file a claim, never have an infraction/moving violation/accident/claim.

Would that person experience higher insurance premiums because the insurance company would see a higher risk of someone having only state minimum insurance?

    5 car accident

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:01 PM PDT

So I was involved in an accident today where 5 cars were damaged. I was at a red light. A woman (who was under the influence) is at fault. She pulled out of a business and squeezed between the front of my vehicle and the one In front of me to make a left turn into oncoming traffic. I'm pretty sure my car is totaled. I was hit directly by the person who cause all this and was pinned between their truck and another vehicle. I'm super short so I sit really close to the steering wheel. My knee was jammed into the dash.. it does hurt but I'm sure nothing is broke.. Im worried that this Persons insurance policy won't be able to cover the damages to everyone involved. Then what happens? Am I responsible for any medical bills that their insurance is unable to pay for? I want to just get my knee checked out but I really can't afford anything medical as my husband just had to quit his job due to starting dialysis and we have other medical bills racking up. Oh.. and now I don't have a car. My car was paid off but I still have full coverage

Been recommended to a new insurance agent

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 04:10 PM PDT

So my sister knows a guy over at State Farm, and it's been a while since I've done the whole insurance quote thing.

So he asked to see my policy declarations. My question is, should I leave the costs on there? Or should I blot those out to make him work a little harder?

I'm in California if that matter.

No insurance got into an accident with Geico driver

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 03:00 PM PDT

<Arizona> I recently purchased a car(5th October) and it is kept in the apartments common parking space. I was waiting for my next paycheck to buy the 6 months of insurance in one go. I change my car position every day in the parking lot to avoid the morning and evening sun, but I never took it out on the road. On an unfortunate day(12th October), while I was reversing my car, another driver rushed(he was on his way to exit) and hit my car in the back bumper. He was not in a normal state. He was shaking and was in a rush to meet someone. I did felt he was a bit drunk too. I immediately called the police and when the police asked me if the other party is DUI, I told a maybe. They said since it is private property insurance companies would settle it. The other guy admitted it is his fault and gave his insurance details and he didn't ask mine(and I don't have insurance either). I filed an insurance claim online at Geico, the representative got all the details from me and said that it is a 50-50 responsibility as I couldn't see the driver when I was reversing.

I'm not sure what the 50-50 responsibility means here? I did not mention about me not having insurance for the other party yet. Since the other guy didn't ask for my insurance details does it mean they are going to cover 50% of my costs? When I asked about it the agent said, they are going to cover 50% of my costs and did not say anything about me being liable for 50% of the costs for the other guy.

I'm pretty bummed that though what I bought is a used car, it is my first car. And even though it is completely the other guy's fault(and he admitted when the accident happened) why they are not offering 100%. I asked for a 70-30 split at least.

During the accident, a couple of neighbors were on their balcony and were able to see the accident. I did mention them as witnesses and the company took a statement from them. They haven't called me back on whether they are updating the split. Any help would be appreciated?

    My questions:

    1. Since I don't have insurance does 50-50 split means that are they going to reimburse 50% of my money and not ask any money for the other person's car repair?
    2. How can I request to change the split from 50-50 to 70-30? Given that driver said it is his fault during the accident and I have no recording of it :(.

Need Advice after a few mishaps.

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:43 PM PDT

    Throwaway account,

My Fiancée just moved to Florida from California, and without consulting me made what I believe a grievous mistake. They switched their insurance from California to Florida before being able to register, finding a job, and having a Florida license.

Now on top of paying way more than before for car insurance, they are essentially committing accidental insurance fraud. They've recently gained employment, about at the start of October, and only now has their first check gone through, just in time to make the payment one day before the cancellation date.

The problem is, they've been here since late July, and they still need a paycheck or two to actual afford the entire registration process.

My question is this, have they sealed their fate by switching insurance too early? Or could they switch back to California and have it wrote off as a harmless, albeit careless mistake?

All things considered by Florida law, even though they're working and their mailing address is here, they aren't necessarily a resident yet, and would have to file taxes for California when it's time. Thanks to all who clarified this part, I'll definitely be taking notes.

Auto insurance pays to lien and not to myself.

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 02:24 PM PDT

    [CA]

I got into an accident and filed a claim. I decided to pay out of my pocket to the body shop and was planning on getting the money from the insurance later on, but the adjuster told me that they could only make the payment to the lien of my automobile since the car is not paid off yet (I financed a new car).

I want to ask if this is normal. Also, how does this process work? Will this automatically get deducted from my finance balance or do I need to call the company that I financed at and figure this out?

No quote from contractor...ok to go off insurance estimate?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 01:14 PM PDT

So we have a contractor who did repairs for us previously...had some weather damage to the house, got an insurance check for ACV. The contractor said "I'll come out and do the repairs and then they'll give you the RCV" I asked about an estimate to see what he would charge for the repairs but he's basically saying just go by the insurance estimate.(I think) This is someone I know and I'm not sure how to proceed. I asked a couple times for a quote or estimate. I feel like I need something in writing saying exactly what he will do and for how much. I do not have much experience with insurance repairs. How do I approach this without damaging the relationship?

Will ACA plans be a viable option for my family?

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:59 AM PDT

We (myself, wife and newborn) are moving back to the Midwest (Kansas). We would like to have the flexibility to get jobs that are not tied to health insurance and want to know if getting a plan through the ACA would be an option for us. We will either immediately or soon be making more than the $86,000 household threshold that I am seeing.

Happy to provide more details to help out but will keep it short to start. Thank you!!
