Don't push your personal political views on your customers Posted: 23 Oct 2020 05:31 AM PDT I thought that this was one of those things that didn't need to be said, but this morning I received a long email from the CEO of our expense report software. It doesn't matter which candidate he was supporting but the fact that he used his customer email list to push his views is a problem. On top of it being bad business, his views are definitely on the fringe and lead me to be that the guy is probably a little nuts and a conspiracy theorist. Doom and gloom if his guy doesn't win. America will crumble if the other guy wins. If his guy doesn't win it's only because the other side rigged it. On and on. Don't do that. I've never been thrilled with his software but I didn't care enough to switch, but now I'm considering switching platforms. [link] [comments] |
Has ghosting become the new normal? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 08:18 AM PDT I was going back through old leads this week and realized that virtually nobody I dealt with this year had told me explicitly that they didn't want to do business with me. Instead, they simply stopped communicating and responding to email. Ie, they started ghosting/ignoring me. We're not talking about 1 or 2 here. We're talking about probably 15 warm leads that went cold over the course of the year. I was tempted to check if my email is working - but I know that it is. When, exactly, did ghosting become the default way of signalling non-interest in something? If it were a minority it would be one thing. But I find it disappointing that professional courtesy has degraded to the extent that virtually nobody takes 30 seconds to tell you they're not interested in what you're selling. [link] [comments] |
Sales tactics to get food vendors on board onto my startup? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 09:38 AM PDT I need to get takeaway restaurants onto my startup idea (basically an Just Eat competitor) and have tried pitching to them, with no success. I constantly see them making excuses like "we have enough of you guys already" and "We'll see, let me think about it", which all feels like soft excuses that are as a result of my bad pitch. I am not a sales expert by any means but need to learn fast, are there any tactics you know that would help get these guys on board? Any advice would really be appreciated! Edit: just some info, we set everything up for free and provide lower commission than competitors, I've explained that to them but they're still not onboard. [link] [comments] |

Embedding personal page onto company linkedin page still possible? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 05:18 AM PDT I read on here a while back a hack of a sorts that was possible on linkedin that allowed you to connect your personal page to your companies page that would have the effect of giving you a notification when someone viewed your companies page? Obviously quite useful as an SDR. Does anyone know if this is still possible? [link] [comments] |
How did you deal with your hardest month in sales? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 07:46 AM PDT Everybody here can remember their best month/quarter/year in sales. But the hardest part, and sadly, the most consistent part of selling, is losing. I had a bad habit of letting the losses get to me. I drank too much, smoked too much weed and in general just attempted to avoid the feelings of failure. I'm now in an Enterprise role and having a closed lost sale is pretty detrimental to my target but I've gotten better at accepting the loss without any external sources (drinking etc) helping me. Sales will always be hard but I've changed my game by trying to speak to my mates as much as possible, stick to a daily routine, and I've also started to see a counsellor which has been extremely useful professionally and personally. I'd be keen to hear how everyone else here is going selling through covid, and what you guys/girls do to deal with the pressure and stress of sales. [link] [comments] |

Which doors are easier to open? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 11:03 AM PDT I'm a current car salesman with very little experience looking to break into the B2B world. I like selling and enjoy the actual sales process but I am already burnt out on 11 hour saturdays and working til 8pm every week night. I've applied to probably 20 positions through linkedin for SDR positions and have had 5 first interviews and 1 second interview. No job offers. I am following up with hiring managers and hustling in all the ways I know to do but my lack of experience seems to be killing me. Is there a sector outside of Saas that has slightly less competition? I'm itching to get my foot in the door but all the doors I'm knocking on seem to be shut due to my lackluster resume and credentials. Any tips or advice on knocking on different doors that might yield better results? [link] [comments] |
Car sales or Debt Settlement sales(inside sales)? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 06:57 AM PDT Hello r/sales, Debt Settlement Sales(inside sales): Potential Income $60k-100k+ Or Car Sales: Potential Income $50k-100k+ Which one do I choose? I just started in the Debt Settlement company (3 weeks in). From what I have seen, the top reps are bringing in $8k-10k this month. I was told by owner, that If I am coachable & if I put the work into this, I can potentially bring in $75k-100k+. From what I have seen, I strongly believe this is possible. A friend just started working at Toyota (1 week in), and said he can help me get in to work with him. He was told if he is decent he will bring in about $50k-80k his first year and can make $100k soon after. He strongly believes that if I work with him at Toyota, I will bring in more money than my current position. While I believe I'll bring in more money in the Debt Settlement position. Which one do I choose? Debt settlement or Car sales? Which one will bring in more income? [link] [comments] |
What questions do you wish you would have asked during sales interview? Posted: 23 Oct 2020 09:35 AM PDT Been in procurement and logistics my entire career and now have an opportunity as a sales rep in an industry I'm excited about. As an experienced salesperson, what are some questions you wish you would have asked during the interview process? What do you know now that you wish you understood better going in? Are there different things you would ask if going into an agency versus working direct for the manufacturer/supplier? This would be an agency repping numerous brands. [link] [comments] |
Burnout, entrepreneurship, and part time work Posted: 23 Oct 2020 09:00 AM PDT I've had a quota for over 10 years, and I'm over it. I'm looking to transition from sales into consulting by starting a sales consultancy. I know that's still sales, and I recognize that I'll always be selling in one form or another. The thought of selling for myself feels better than selling for someone else. All of that is really just for context. My question has to do with part time sales jobs. Does anyone have any leads on companies hiring part time reps? Most of what I'm seeing are straight commission, which won't work for me. Really just looking for something to bridge the gap as I ramp my consultancy. [link] [comments] |
Book that breaks down sales jargon Posted: 23 Oct 2020 02:59 AM PDT Hi, I'm not in a sales role (freelance writer), but I've recently come to appreciate how important having a good handle on sales is in running my business. As I've never worked in sales, my understanding of some basic sales concepts — like the difference between funnel and pipeline — is relatively elementary. And I'd like to develop upon it. Can anybody recommend a good primer (book) that gives a nice introductory overview to the world of sales for non-sales professionals. If it were also aimed at small business owners, that would be ideal too. Today, for instance, I'm diving into the difference between sales qualified and marketing qualified leads. A book that walked through all these terms and distinctions would be a great resource. TY [link] [comments] |
How to get quality survey leads (or other options) Posted: 23 Oct 2020 05:57 AM PDT Have known a few people who have successfully built businesses from "survey leads". When i ask which site/provider they use or cost per lead etc they understandably get tight lipped. I am looking for some tips/know how in this space (esp if there are better options than survey leads for the cost). I will be cold calling respondents to the survey when i have free time. Are there well known providers you know? Is it better to go with big or small providers? Do you write surveys yourself or pay someone to do for you? Area i work in is financial services in Australia if that's relevant, questions would be things like "do you have an accountant" "do you have a mortgage" "have you used a mortgage broker" "have you considered insurance"...etc. Most similar surveys i have seen either promise the latest iPhone to a lucky winner or a $200 gift card which i also assume is never given out. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Oct 2020 02:45 AM PDT Selling: A buying, not leasing, of government funded solar panels by the department of the water and power. You will own the panels because you are purchasing them and your electrical bill will now be replaced with the solar bill which will be significantly less. It is funded because of a senate bill that raised electricity rates and property tax. Because the government funded these programs, the installation will be free, you will get free re-roofing, and there will be a 25-year warranty for your panels. We have licensed professionals to install the panels for you as well. I need to know if this sales is a scam. [link] [comments] |
Advice about the door-to-door sales method during the COVID-19 pandemic Posted: 22 Oct 2020 08:15 PM PDT I just got a sales job doing roof insurance, which is primarily door to door. It's my first real sales job and I am extremely excited but nervous because I am supposed to go out tomorrow to knock on doors and try to make appointments for roof inspections. Curious to the advice I can get on doing this sales method during a pandemic. I have only seen negative responses related to this topic. People are saying this is a horrible thing and that it should absofregginlutley not be done at this time. Do you think this is true? Could you give any advice to a new salesman? Anything is welcome! Considering changing jobs from IT HW sales to SaaS AE - need help in evaluating my options Posted: 23 Oct 2020 12:40 AM PDT Hello everyone, I have been so inspired and educated by this community so far and I would like to ask your opinion on a choice I need to make. Currently working as Regional AE for IT HW (covering Western Europe, I am based in EU), one of the top players in the market. Great benefits, 43k base and 28k variable. I have a team quota and we have been reaching around 80% for the past 2 years. I already know that next year (fiscal starts in 1 week) is not going to be anu different. No prospect to grow right now, the market is shrinking and margins are eroding fast. However the job is really chill, I have been doing it for 4 years, lots of free time and flexibility, WFH, etc. I just received an offer which gives me a significant jump - 75k base + 50k variable. This is a much more narrow role (southern Europe) and shittier market. The company is SaaS, pretty well established in Western EU and US (10k employees WW) but with almost no operations in my country /region so it will be greenfield, I will need to set up new biz with some support from marketing and channel for leads. They claim they are #1 on the market for at least one range of solutions. I would for sure have to work more, travel more but they agreed to let me WFH whenever I want and give me flexibility (if I do overtime to compensate for it the next week, stuff like that). They have a threshold for variable pay at 25% if you don't make at least that you see zero variable. They give me 3 months variable guarantee to start with. Similar benefits We are in the middle of a pandemic and this is a big risk (if I don't perform I am the lone wolf that's easy to fire). On the other hand it will take me years to reach this salary in my current job. I don't know to what extent there will be stress and pressure but for sure more than now. What's your view on this? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:03 PM PDT Haven't given him any reason to question my integrity. Almost every conversation this turns into me defending myself or processes in a sales cycle. It feels like he does this to gain control of the conversation as I end up shrinking a bit and don't act with as much confidence as I do with everyone else I deal with. How should I respond to this? Counter offensive? Arch my back? Just be his bitch and be cool with it? [link] [comments] |
If someone listens to your pitch, and then declines, dont get visibly upset Posted: 22 Oct 2020 04:50 PM PDT A sales rep has been trying to reach out to me for a while now (cold outbound). I hand all the inbound for my company, with a large marketing funnel so im basically constantly slammed with meetings. This guy finally catches me at a good time and i say he's good to go on the pitch. I know where he's coming from, i wana give him the business if its of value. Ask him for the unique value prop, he tells me, i outright say that it doesnt apply to our business model, got anything else? Nope, he pushes on that. I politely decline. Tells me "you get what you pay for" with a very pissed off voice. Like i get it, you couldn't land the sale. But i gave you a shot, it just wasnt a good fit. If this happens to you, i would reccomend you either pivot or if you can't, then say goodbye on good terms. I'll remember his company, and in a very negative light because of the tone of one outbound sales rep. [link] [comments] |
What is the craziest / different thing you have done to secure a Job or client? Posted: 22 Oct 2020 01:38 PM PDT I have heard of a few different things such as someone on reddit talked about sending the CEO (complete cold call) of Outback Steakhouse an inflatable crocodile to their home to secure a meeting and they got a call back from that CEO. What else have you done/heard of and did it work? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:52 PM PDT Good evening, For the past few weeks I have been settling into my new role as an outside sales rep at a large distribution company. I sell construction materials to contractors. This is my dream role but I am having trouble wrapping my head around things and am constantly second guessing myself because I am very young (youngest sales rep in my region) and this is my first go at outside sales. The territory is relatively established. I have 80+ accounts spread throughout a pretty large geographical area. These accounts have been buying from us, but the sales reps here before me were not performing well due to lack of drive and not wanting to be customer facing. They actually combined two territories and gave them to me. Getting started I've been calling existing accounts to introduce myself and even try to set meetings. This seems slow though. I'm very much a self starter and just want to be good at this and I hate what feels like "downtime" as my first couple years out of college have been spent in pretty fast paced inside sales/operations roles in my industry. Is this normal to feel like this? Is there a better way to get in front of customers than just calling and setting meetings? I am hesitant to just show up in a contractor's office due to differing COVID rules within each company although my company is allowing us to make sales calls. Has anyone else struggled transitioning to a new role like this? I feel like I'm sitting on a damn goldmine here if I can just start winning jobs and growing some of these accounts I have, but I just want some advice and to hear what y'all have to say. Thanks in advance y'all! [link] [comments] |
