Does time lost for blackout drunkenness count for sick leave? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:37 PM PDT I know - it sounds insane even having to ask this question. An employee wants us to pay her total accrued sick leave because she was out on an extended drunken bender. She says she's getting treatment now. My initial reaction is "heck no" but don't want to get in trouble with the state. California small business. EDIT/UPDATE - I truly appreciate everyone's comments. Thank you!! We're going to go ahead and pay the sick leave. The whole world basically sux right now and I sure don't have it in me to fight this. I guess it feels like a betrayal to me, as we've done a lot for this employee over the years. But whaddaya gonna do, eh? [link] [comments] |
Customer not satisfied with job done, need advice. Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:18 PM PDT Hello, I have ran a cleaning company for 7 years with the same crew and have yet to receive a negative review for the work we provided except for today. The customer contacted me through text saying that the job being done currently is not to her expectation since she's paying double what others charge (not likely, our prices are equal / less than competitors) Keep in mind my cleaner is still at her house as we speak, she then asks to send someone new to her home. This is odd to me because the one cleaning is the most sought after cleaner on my team and is booked literally 24/7. How can I reply to this in a good profesional manner? Any suggestions ? I'm worried she won't pay for the job. Edit: Client ended up paying full amount even though the job wasn't done. They ended up asking for more than what was agreed on through the quote I gave them and ultimately micromanaged my team. Will be firing client for sure. [link] [comments] |

Why is my competitor's app on my phone? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 02:15 AM PDT I feel obligated to have my competitors apps on my phone to see what they do that my app doesn't and how I can add more to unitMeasure to beat them. In addition, it's always a good idea to read their reviews on the app store and see what is lacking. Lastly, if there is an open source project... check the issues tab and see what their project is lacking... now build that feature in your app and reach out to the user who created the issue ;) Hopefully, this advice can help out other indie hackers and budding developers [link] [comments] |
Which companies are best at registering LLC's? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 05:06 AM PDT I am starting an LLC and for a number of reasons it makes sense for me to use a service to register my LLC. The main things I need right away are the operating agreement and the EIN #. Legal Zoom wants to charge me about $200. Rocket Lawyer is creeping up to $300. Obviously doing it myself would be cheaper, but it's not realistic for me right now. Any of these services get me an OA and EIN for under $200? Apologies if this is answered elsewhere or FAQ's. I didn't find what I was looking for after a quick search. [link] [comments] |
Main Street Lending Program, Will I Qualify? Posted: 31 Oct 2020 04:33 AM PDT My issue: Had a very successful eBay business, doing $110-130K Per month in sales, Covid struck and orders from Asia got delayed, eBay limited account due to too many open orders not yet shipped. Not able to list or sell anything until all orders shipped and delivered. 12 weeks later, all orders processed and closed, during this time, debts racked up, mortgage fell behind, laid off employees, customers cancelled orders, high # of returns. No sales or income for months, went from sales of $100k per month to ZERO!!!! Called eBay to get account reinstated, they said sure no problem, pay off the invoice owed and we will reinstate. Problem is, invoice is over $45k. Mortgage holder called in Balloon Payment and now in foreclosure. Simply gone from bad to worse. I still have about 90 days before i have to close shop, all prior employees are laid off, with only 1 working very part time a few hours a week. Profit last year was around $165k. Can i get the MSLF for my business, pay off the mortgage and eBay and get back providing a service and living a life other than late nights of worry. I need $925K To clear the mortgage and eBay, (Property valued at around 1.3 - 1.4 Million) will the MSLF program finance me this amount and approve it within 90 days, after that, its all mute. Salary vs Dividends for small business Posted: 31 Oct 2020 03:48 AM PDT Hello! I will be starting a partnership in Canada and am a little confused on the above. Do I have it basically correct: Salary you would pay yourself as an employee that way taxes/etc are being deducted from your earnings as you go Dividends you withdraw from company like cash but you need to pay the taxes on it come tax season. My other question is: say profits for a business was 50k but through salary in a year you got 40k of it taxed. Come tax season how do you account for the other 10k? Do you pay it to yourself as a salary/dividend in one sum to balance out the year? (This is assuming no way to reinvest back into business) Thanks for any help [link] [comments] |

Is installment payment better than one time payment? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:00 PM PDT let's say we have to pay $100k to a vendor for a year of service, we can either pay that in 90 days, or pay $50k six month apart with 90 day term. I feels like the installment payment is the better option but how can I quantify the benefit in cash flow? Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
What's the best way to set up credit cards for a multi-owner business? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:44 AM PDT From what I've found so far, it looks like business credit cards for small businesses (i.e. not corporate cards) are tied to both the company's credit and an individual's credit score, and the individual is usually responsible for payments if the company can't make payment. To me, it would make the most sense to apply for a business credit card with all of the owners being co-signers so the personal liability is fairly distributed. But from what I've found, the concept of cosigning usually only exists for situations like a teenager with no established credit having a parent as a cosigner. Any tips on how to approach this? It just seems unfair to me that one owner should take on the liability for themselves plus the rest of the company. [link] [comments] |
Tradeline on experian business credit report. I have no idea what it is and they won't tell me? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:33 PM PDT Basically the title. It appears as "equipment" as a net 30 tradeline but I have no idea what it is. I did an Experian business dispute and they said the company reporting it declines to identify themselves. Has anyone ran into a situation like this? Do I have any other options to figure this out? [link] [comments] |
The new Freshbooks is absolute crap.... Posted: 30 Oct 2020 05:44 AM PDT So we were forced over to the new Freshbooks this morning. It is absolutely trash. We used Freshbooks as a business management platform, not as a cute feel good, look good web application. Now there's so much white space it's blinding. Grid displays of things like invoices and customers and expenses take up so much space because of the white space around them, where before they were thin lists. The first thing that greets me when I enter any section is an entire page full of information I don't care about and I have to scroll down an entire scroll to get to information. Finally, everything has been designed to look "cute", which has no place in a business application. What other expense/invoicing systems are out there? I was looking at Wave, I think ADP also may integrate or have something. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:11 PM PDT Usually the goal of every small business is to become big some day, say a corporate that serves a large number of people repeatedly on a huge scale. Therefore small businesses are told to and they try to imitate how corporates act. However, it is the other way round; today corporates are trying to act like small businesses. That is the need of the hour. Why? Because following are the things that you will get only from a Small Business. You can't get these from a Corporate:
A good small business is indispensable, someone that you would miss if not available. They are an important part of someone's day or someone's business or someone's life. That is not easy to accomplish. You are not going to accomplish it by simply producing something that a Corporate can produce about a couple of dollars cheaper. You are going to accomplish it only by touching and enhancing the lives of the people. There is something about what these small businesses do and how they do it that really connects with people and that is the basic human need. I am looking for a lead management tool Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:09 AM PDT I am on the lookout of a lead management tool that will let me add and manage leads from different sources. I work for a startup that deals in PowerPoint templates. We basically cater to business professionals. I am responsible for reaching out to relevant writers and journalists that write about business productivity, business communication etc. so that I can build some relationships. These writers (let's call them leads) can be found through various sources. I may search for an article on a particular topic and then note down who wrote it. Or I may simply search on LinkedIn. So, I am looking for a tool that will help me integrate all my leads from different sources i.e, linkedIn,Google search and others. I want them to appear in a single list, from which I can decide who gets an email and who doesn't. It would be great if the tool has some automated feature to send follow-up mails as most of my emails are cold emails and follow-ups are essential. Sometimes, I may not have a lead's email ID. In that case I will have to contact them through LinkedIn inmail. So, it would be great if I could control that as well. A tool that is integrated with sales navigator or something similar? I know it's a lot to ask. I understand that it may not be possible to find a tool that is inclusive of all the aforementioned features. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Overseas production management and tracking Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:49 PM PDT Hi all, I run a golf apparel and accessory company based in the United States. Our clothing and headcovers are made in China. We have great suppliers but it has become hard to keep track of all of the projects. So im looking for software that can be accessed by myself and the supplier that can list all of our projects and deadlines on a calendar. Does anyone know of something that would work? Thanks! A lot of people are viewing my store, but no buyers? Help! Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:00 AM PDT I've only opened my shop on Etsy in the last month (Morverino Art), in that time I've had 14 buyers, but all were close family or friends and repeats from the same people. While I really appreciate and value their support, I was hoping to branch out to people buying because they like the product, not because they know me personally. I paid for a small ad campaign on Facebook, and that gets me around 10 people a day clicking the link to open my shop. I've also started a Facebook and Instagram page, and promote myself there. I have reached hundreds of people, had a few hundred people view my shop... but no buyers but close friends and very close relations. I don't know what it is that is making people look at my shop then not buy anything? It could be prices, but all of my stickers are drawn by me, printed on weatherproof paper and hand laminated and cut out, which takes a lot of time and effort, and the stickers come out a lot better quality than the ones you can get in packs of 50 for £1. Any advice would be appreciated, and if it is just the case that my art is terrible, please phrase it in a nice way, I've been feeling pretty fragile recently :) [link] [comments] |
What is your biggest pain point for getting paid on time? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:33 AM PDT For me, it's chasing people to pay up. What's yours? Card fees? Chasing? Reconciliation? Cashflow discrepancies? [link] [comments] |
How does one find a business partner? Posted: 30 Oct 2020 03:42 PM PDT Hi everyone, I would like to know how does one find a business partner? I own a small business in the AV/live events industry. Currently I am the only employee. I usually get hired for one person jobs. But I am looking to expand and I am finding it hard to see the whole picture/keep motivation by myself. I am usually a pretty competitive person and I work better when I have someone to "one-up" Say they get a four show contract then I want to do one better and get a six show contract. Anyway I'm not necessarily looking for someone to invest money wise... more of someone with my level of ambition and tenacity to grow a business. Someone to compliment my weakness. I'm better at fixing things and solving problems than I am talking to people or selling myself. How do I find a partner? Or do I just hire someone to help with marketing/sales? I'd really like somebody passionate about my industry to bounce ideas off of. I have some money but not sure I want to hire someone full time given the current situation. Any ideas, suggestions, or insight would be much appreciated. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Merchant services recommendation Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:20 AM PDT Hey everyone, I'm currently using Quickbooks card services to accept credit card payments. We're charging around $30-50k a month and I'm wondering who you all use for this service. I'd like to see if I can find something more affordable. I've tried Fatmerchantt however they couldn't beat my current rate at Quickbooks which is 2.9% invoices and 3.4% keyed. Anyone have any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Oct 2020 11:05 AM PDT r/personalfinance suggested I post here: We have two businesses (sole proprietorships; an mail order bakery and a service/retail business) and multiple small "beer money"/sidehustles (photography licensing, music licensing, merch design, usability testing, selling crafts, etc). I need a clear, straightforward method of keeping track of all of these things in one place because a) they all intersect in some way (receipts, bank accounts, credit cards) and b) I know if I have to learn to stay on top of this stuff AND manage multiple accounts I will not be able to keep up with it. We have three PayPal accounts (two business and one personal), three bank accounts (same), at least three credit cards and three Etsy accounts. Not to mention whatever gets handled in cash. I don't necessarily need something that keeps track of customers, invoicing, etc. I'm just looking for something where I can keep track of receipts, payments, mileage, bills, money in and out, and other things that will help me at tax time next year so people don't have to sift through bags and bags of receipts and manually calculate everything. I have looked briefly into Quickbooks (Etsy gives me a 50% discount), but it won't import more than one PayPal account. Same with Wave (which doesn't import any, apparently?). And anything over $25 a month is too expensive unless it does EVERYTHING I need it to do easily (which is keep track of all those accounts and businesses, basically). For reference, taxes make me want to lie down and close my eyes. This stuff overwhelms me. If you make a suggestion for something I have to learn how to do, please also point me in the direction of how to learn it because I'm starting from zero here. Thanks in advance for your help! ________________ Edit: if spreadsheets is the best way that's fine, but I need a clear-cut method and premade templates because I don't have the knowledge or experience to start from scratch there.
