Here's why you don't commit insurance fraud

    Uninsurable Risk

Thank you for quoting with Progressive. Because your customer or an insured person committed fraud or misrepresentation in connection with an application for insurance or reinstatement of insurance, or in the presentation or settlement of a claim, or issued an unauthorized payment in connection with an application for insurance or a policy, we are unable to offer your customer a new policy at this time.

They were paying about 200/mo. Now I've got only one company out of 12 that will touch them. 880/mo.

Grandmother needs 24 hour care, mother has stopped working to stay home with her

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:46 PM PDT

Hello, it's my first ever post here so excuse me if I leave anything pertinent out. My grandmother's dementia has progressed and now she basically requires 24 hour care. My mom has stopped working to take care of her. My grandmother has both medicare and Humana health coverage. My parents have asked me to dig around and see if either of these health care plans might help cover some of my mom's costs of no longer working. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to anything insurance wise, does anyone here know anything about this scenario? Thanks in advance.

--edit-- We live in Illinois, thanks LocationBot =)

Can the people who support private health insurance over universal healthcare please explain to me how the heck is it efficient for blue Cross to charge me $250 for my steroid eye drops when there is a manufacturer coupon that reduces to price to $30 instead?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 04:48 AM PDT

How the heck can you espouse the greatness of private insurance efficiency when the process for buying a simple thing like an ointment, or a cream, or medicated eyedrops is so overly complicated that I have to search for coupons that make the product cheaper for me than going through the actual insurance.

If private insurance was truly efficient there would be no coupon. I would just pay the lower price without wasting extra time. Why do I have to run around in circles to end up not using the insurance that I'm paying $600/month for.

How is this efficient? Please explain to me how much time and energy and money I've saved by having private insurance? Please explain to me how paying $600/month for private insurance rather than paying that same amount or most likely less in taxes towards a universal system is better for me?

    I'm begging you.

FYI I posted this in rant and got no response so either no one in that sub likes private insurance or no one can come up with an argument to explain the greatness of private insurance in the face of thos absurdity. So I figured why not try here lol.

    I'm in Illinois btw.

Clear Cover cancelled coverage on me?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:18 PM PDT

So I had insufficient funds in my account, they notified me after one day. I immediately added the funds and paid. I was only one day late and It shows on my history too, i got a notification on the app thanking me for adding the funds and paying. Days later I get in the mail that they're cancelling my coverage because I didn't pay, but I did. I paid for a full months period on 10/26 and they're ending coverage 11/9. Can they do this? If they are really going to cancel my account can I at least get some of my money back because they aren't covering the full month?

I'm completely new to car insurance, this was my first policy and it seems like a pretty strict policy to not allow one late day payment after a history of all on time payments and cancelling even after I paid. There wasn't any warning or anything.

    EDIT: I'm in Tucson, Arizona.

Also, I just checked the date on the letter and it says 10/25. They still allowed to me pay on 10/26 after they supposedly ended my account. Wtf? I'm so confused

Is it illegal to withhold health insurance info from someone else who is on it?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:04 PM PDT

I'm 18 and my mom still pays for my health insurance (so I'm on hers). I want to go get checked out for adhd, but she doesn't believe in adhd so she won't give me the insurance info because she doesn't want me to get a diagnosis. Is this illegal?

Diversity and Inclusion in the Insurance Industry

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 07:21 PM PDT

Hey guys, I am working with a small to mid size insurance firm that wants to improve its practices and wants to work on it's diversity and inclusion project. I am a junior in college and doing this for free to boost my resume as a consultant.

I am specifically working on the recruiting practices of the firm. Are there any benchmarks that insurance firms use to ensure diversity and inclusion in their workforce?

The firm currently offers commercial insurance, life insurance, personal insurance if that helps.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank You!

Edit: the Firm is based in Ohio

    First accident questions.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:55 PM PDT

So I just got into an accident. Lady was at a stop for a good 10 sec after the light turned green, and I'm trying to turn left into her lane out of a parking lot. I'm thinking she's letting me go through, and turn. We crash, and her door is dented with a nasty scratch mark, and her tire flattened. My cars front bumper is fucked, and looks like it's about to fall off. Luckily no one was hurt. My question is am I at fault? If so, what are the repercussions when it comes to my insurance price? Do I still file a claim? I am 18, so I'm very scared and confused on what to do.

Just how much auto coverage is enough?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 01:57 PM PDT

    I have:

    • 100k bodily injury per person
    • 300k bodily injury each accident
    • 100k property damage

    Uninsured Motorist

    • 50k bodily injury per person
    • 100k bodily injury each accident

My floor is much high than California state standards, but I question, based on statistics, is this coverage generally enough to protect me?

And if I caused injury greater than my limits, I'm assume that would allow for any injured party to sue in civil court. Is that correct? I've never paid serious attention to my auto insurance before, and so I want to be prepared, or at least understand my risk. Thanks.

Applying to be a seasonal personal vehicle package driver w/ UPS

    Hi all,

I would love if someone could help me out with this. I'm applying to be a seasonal personal vehicle package driver with UPS. That being said, would I need to update my "regular" auto insurance policy since I'm now using my personal vehicle to do my job?

Insurance coverage for car rental longer than 45 days

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 03:35 PM PDT

My fiancé and I have been renting a car for the past two months. We have car insurance through a normal carrier so did not opt for the Avis insurance. We recently started questioning whether we are covered since we are renting the car past 45 days (which typically insurance only covers up to 45 days). We've called our insurance to figure this out and we're still waiting for them to get back to us. One reason we think we may be covered is because in the rental agreement it says that we will be billed "at the conclusion of each 30 day rental period." Does anyone have any experience with this? Given the fact that the rental periods are 30 days at a time should we be covered?

Family member wants to me become a public adjuster for him?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 02:57 PM PDT

    Hi

I live in illinois and my uncle owns a roofing contractor business that he started a couple years back. He works with a general contractor company to replace people's roofs by insurance claims to my knowledge. Yeah, that kinda thing.

As of right now I work as a delivery guy for the roofing crew and being them materials if they need any more during the day.

So basically, my uncle told me this winter he wants me to study and take the adjuster exam in March so I can be a public adjuster for him and the general contractor company he's working with.

He also has a PA license, but from my knowledge if I'm correct : It's legal for the PA and contractor to work under the same company in Illinois, but it's illegal for someone to be a roofing contractor & PA for a claim because conflict of interests.

I asked him why couldn't he just use his PA license, and he told me he can't because he got in trouble in the past. I'm guessing because it's illegal to be both? He didn't tell me this directly, I just pieced together information I found online.

So my question: is my uncle just trying to use me as a loophole as me being a PA for him? What's his MO? I feel like he has some ulterior motive he's not being straight up with me about.

My dad worked in insurance for about 10 years, he got pissed at my uncle when I told him about the situation and told me what I would be doing as a PA is fraud and told me not to take the job.

I'm not educated on insurance at all so I came here for some insight. I don't know what to do because my uncle says if I get the job it looks like it's going to pay well this coming summer, but my dad says not to take the job, but I can tell my dad is somewhat biased because he's always been on the insurer's side. Stuck between a rock and a hard place about this..

Who gets the money if both my spouse and I pass at the same time?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:50 PM PDT

I'm in Ontario, Canada and I have a life insurance policy through my work. It's not my primary policy so it's not exactly a ton of cash.

I have to list my beneficiary so I choose my wife, 100% allocation. But if we both passed at the same time, where does the money go?

We have two teenage kids, do I have to add them as beneficiaries or do I need a will to specify that in the event of both of us passing, the kids should get the money (or their guardian)?

Need to add drivers in household

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 12:32 PM PDT

So I live in a townhouse in Montgomery County, MD, with my fiancee. We rent three rooms, two guys and an old lady. Each one have their own car.

I share my car policy with my fiancee, and each of my renters have their own insurance.

Do we all need to put ourselves into each other's policies?

My fiancee and I have Allstate, and my roommates are Geico, Geico and Allstate.

I read somewhere that in some cases they can go to deny insurance since not all household drivers are in the policy, so I'll not like that. But I can't also think that I need to add THREE other drivers to my policy, even if they are excluded, my rates will go up for sure.

We have been living for two years, and we have never used each others cars.

What should I do? If I call my agent of course they'll ask me to add them, more money for them.

    Thanks!

Why is my employer's insurance company asking about my wife's eligibility for her own insurance?

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 06:15 AM PDT

It's that time of year again! I'm going through the elections for my insurance during open enrollment and I understand everything about it but something always piques my suspicion that I don't quite understand the motive behind. My wife and child are both on my employer-sponsored plan and every year when I fill out the questionnaire one of the questions is "Is your spouse employed and eligible for health insurance coverage through their employer?"

Why does that matter? I've asked my manager who thinks it's just a benign data point that they collect. But the cynic in me (the one reminding me the insurance company and my employer are both for-profit businesses) insists there's more to it. She is technically eligible through her employer but my plan benefits are much better than her company's plan so we put her on mine. Would they boot my wife if they found out she's eligible through her employer? What are the implications of me answering "yes" to that question?

Deemed ready to become a SF agent.. taking my initial assessment next month and have the support of both the sales leader and the agent I work for.. but I have one concern..

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 11:53 AM PDT

My only concern here is that I had a chapter 7 bankruptcy discharged May 2019 (long story).. Will that disqualify me during the evaluation process? I have a decent score considering when the BK was discharged (roughly 700) and I have plenty of $$ for the start up costs. Can anyone shed some insight into this? In Virginia

Dealing with my apartments insurance for injury

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:53 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I recently got a concussion due to a door that malfunctioned in my apartment building parking structure. I texted the building manager who then told me that door had been broken for weeks and she had submitted a work order... the building is know for taking forever to fix anything. The next day she texted me that the door was now fixed. I thought i was fine but fast forward 2 weeks later and i have multiple issues like headaches, vision issues, brain processing issues, etc. Anyways i've read that when a injury occurs at an apartment you could potentially go straight to the apartments insurance rather than hiring a lawyer. Is this something that i should do or should i just opt for a lawyer. My primary care doctor wants me to see a neurologist and an eye specialist because what i'm experiencing. This is obviously going to start adding up $$$. thanks

(PA) Insurance company telling me all policies are hard-cancelled if any payment is not received and processed by due date.

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:49 AM PDT

First off, I pay my policies in full and on time, but regardless I want to know whether this agent is blowing smoke or not. She owns the agency and is telling me PA changed their law in the spring to remove any and all grace period from insurance payments, or else the policy is dropped completely. Is this true? I couldn't find anything when searching around. She claims this goes for all kinds of policies.

This came up because my landlord's policy is up for renewal on 11/1—which I was financially prepared for—but did not receive the bill until this past Monday (the 26th). I dropped the envelope in the mail Wednesday, only to receive a threatening call just now about my apparently looming, no exceptions cancellation.

I'm shopping for a new provider for unrelated reasons, but am curious if this is just proof in the pudding that I'm making the right decision. If PA did change the law, I would think it would be evidenced in the news somewhere.

    Block foundation question (Ontario)

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 10:18 AM PDT

I have a house but it's more like a cottage. No actual cement floor underneath. I was doing some work by a window to the crawl space and noticed that I could almost break the block with just my hand. Would this something akin to say mould damage and someone would come look at it and could be cover under a policy?

    American-Amicable life Insurance

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 09:49 AM PDT

My mom pays $62/mo for a policy that will pay out $11k upon her death. This seems like a total ripoff, especially considering there's ways to get that level of insurance for next to nothing (like the $25k one for $13/mo — no med exam required—from my credit union). She's in her mid 60s and lives off SSI of about $1,300/mo. She has a separate funeral insurance type thing from a different company. Does this premium seem high? Thanks for any helpful insight y'all can give.

Backed into a 1995 suburban in the parking lot exit, he wants me to pay him $500

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:45 AM PDT

In the case of a small accident if the person I hit claims insurance will my rates go up even if I don't claim on my insurance?

I was pulling out of a parking lot but stopped and backed up a little so the front of my car wasn't poking into the street. There was a 1995 suburban behind me and I backed into it (I couldn't tell if he was moving forward too but our cars were touching and my front end was still in the road).

There was a football sized dent in his chrome bumper and it cracked my rear bumper. He gets out and yells he has witnesses in the car with him. We decided to not go through insurance because he said he wasn't worried about his car and he'll find another bumper from the scrap yard if he wants it fixed.

But today I get a text from him wanting to replace a the bumper and a bunch of other front end parts totaling $500 and if I don't pay him the money before Nov 2nd he will file a police report and contact insurance.

What's the best way to go about this?

Also I'm 17 if they adds any info.

    Difference between AB and BI

    Posted: 30 Oct 2020 08:42 AM PDT

Hello, I just started at an insurance company as a claims assistant. My question to you is, from the claims perspective what is the difference between Accident Benefits and Bodily Injury. I understand they both deal with injuries but what's the difference and when would each one be assigned to a claim?
