My cousin (an unmarried adult, 27) passed away and my drug addict aunt wants to bury evidence related to his death. Can I or his sister request the police to run a toxicology report?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 02:12 AM PDT

Hey all. We're from California. My cousin died in Santa Clarita a few hours ago. My cousins and I strongly believe he passed from a drug overdose. But my aunt is the one that found him. My aunt is addicted to meth and so is my cousin. She is usually his supplier.

My other cousins (his sisters) all had to run away from home to get away from their abusive mother and brother.

My cousins and I want a toxicology report done. Are we within our rights to ask the police to do one or at least get the results? My aunt will try to bury it and is already telling everyone it is a heart issue. My cousins think this is bullshit because I'm the only one in our entire family with heart problems and not one of them had an issue.

We all strongly believe he overdosed. Are toxicology on a 27 year old male common? If not can we request one?

My aunt left the scene to supposedly "call for help" we're pretty confident it was to get rid of the drugs and she came back and reported "found her son" to the police 2 hours from their home.

My cousin and aunt had a terrible addiction. But I take my aunts sayings with a grain of salt. However if there is a chance there is an underlying condition I and his sisters feel like we have the right to know. My aunt is talking about an quick cremation.

Roommate is planning Halloween party at the house we share, despite my telling her I’m not okay with it during COVID-19 - Georgia

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 07:09 PM PDT

Hi all - looking for some advice.

My roommate invited 50 people to our house for a Halloween party while we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. When I told her that I was not comfortable with it, she said I could stay in my room during the party or move out.

***Edit#2: Just some background. I work in a hospital in the infection prevention department. It is literally my job to prevent COVID in the hospital setting and I have tried my best to apply many of those same prevention measure in my own life. For everyone recommending masks, sanitation of hands, and temperature checks: I hear you, and those recommendations are certainly better than nothing. But they are imperfect. Many people with COVID don't ever have a fever. And I doubt when people are intoxicated they will appropriately be wearing a mask when they are eating/drinking. So to me, the best prevention is to not let 50+ people into my home where I want to feel safe. I could certainly leave while she hosts the party, but then I'm out out of my own home that I pay for. Thank you to everyone who has responded and who takes COVID seriously.

***Edit: We live in the city of Atlanta where we are in phase 2, according to the Mayor, which prohibits gatherings of 10 people or more. Can this be enforced?

Do I have any legal standing to say she can't have that many people over? Can I call the police for trespassing if guests come over and they refuse to leave, even though they had her permission?

After first glance of my lease, I did not find a limit of how many people can be on the property at one time.

Also of note, our lease automatically renewed for one year at the end of August. Otherwise I would try and move out beforehand.

    Thanks in advance.

(Update) I am a high school student not allowed to sit for the pledge despite warning staff

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 11:56 AM PDT

(Illinois, USA) Man. It's taken me for ever to get back to updating this.

Here is the old post :)

High School student, im not allowed to sit for the pledge despite being in a public school and despite having warned multiple staff. https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/dh9zgs/high_school_student_im_not_allowed_to_sit_for_the/

Alright, it gets a little crazy from here. So the staff would scream at me, warn me with detention, in school suspension, etc If I didn't stand for the pledge. I contacted the ACLU. I'm glad I did. The principle spoke w me, as well as one of her staff and I named all the examples of teachers flipping their shit or coercing me otherwise. Eventually I got them to change the handbook to say that students don't have to, that way we had more recourse. It was a small win. I wish I pushed harder- I had the ACLU on my side. I felt bad about busting the principals balls. I should have done more. You'll see why. I suggested an explanation or an announcement. Something EXPLICIT. I suppose it was easier appeasing staff than an 18 year old, so they refused.

So, what came of me having issue with this pledge thing which logically contradicts the concept of freedom? I've gotten so many threats messaged to me. People pretending to be polite, and then begging me to leave the country, others calling me a terrorist, to name a few. Everybody wants me to recognize that I 'have it good' but see no problem with this inconsistency that shouldn't exist- why are we FORCING people to say they're free and loyal to a country? I'm just the dumb 18 year old for questioning blind patriotism. The ignorance is dangerous. I took it upon myself to speak to a dozen veterans. A few, in person. THATS what I have done for you that disagree with me. And guess what? They agreed with me. They're on my side. We had long talks. They commended that I didn't mindlessly recite a pledge under threat of punishment. We shouldn't weaponize veterans to defend an idea we are taught is the right thing to do against all logic. So, what else happened? When did shit get crazy? I was sitting in class, the pledge came... we had a substitute teacher. This cool older guy that everyone knew and loved! So what did he do when a girl sat down during the pledge? Before I knew it, I looked up to see that he kicked a chair into this girl. This 4'11, 90 pound girl. She got so scared. Cause he fucking assaulted her, for not standing. I wish I could say I did more in that moment. I told him he had no right to do that, and I told the principal! And you know what? Nothing happened. I saw him in that room less than two weeks later. Land of the free, home of the brave. But don't you DARE question something as innocuous as, why am I being forced to recite a pledge every day?

I have nothing to apologize for. I only regret avoiding writing this follow up. It felt too draining. But here I am, writing it out in 15 minutes!

TLDR: why pledge allegiance under force if we are free? Gets threatened. Called terrorist. Dismissed. Changed school policy. Saw girl get a chair kicked into her for not pledging allegiance.

I graduated. Should I press that they are explicit with this issue? The principal said it was mandatory they enforce the pledge via Illinois law. No one was forcing the aggressive sentiment among staff though. And yeah, this happened in a blue state.

Previous Owner trying to take house back

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 05:37 AM PDT

Hi. My friend in Indiana is currently trying to figure out how much she can do to stop the litigious previous owner from trying to take back the house. She bought her house in March and has the deed in her name. The previous owner left things in the barn that my friend asked the old owner to remove. This prompted the old owner to say she is going to sue for her house back.

My question is twofold: 1) does she need to take any action to prevent the lady from taking her house away? (And how much will it cost. Finances are an issue and trying to be minimized. 2) how does she get the lady to take her stuff back/legally dispose of it?

Thank you so much for your help

Thank you all for the help. I didn't want to advise her to underact but also didn't want her to spend money overacting. Thank you for helping her find the appropriate balance. She'll just ignore the threats unless she gets formally sued then will get a lawyer and will talk to title insurance people

Went to court for child support and judge decided to do custody on the spot and removed my nursing toddler I have 100% of the time to give his absent father 50/50

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:59 AM PDT

Someone please help me I am so devastated. I filed through tribal court (we are in Nevada) for help enforcing an existing state child support order, I believe it's called getting it domesticated, as my son's dad lives and works on the reservation and has been ignoring the order (his work was knowingly doing this as well).

Well we went into court yesterday and the judge asked why we weren't doing custody and goes "well we're doing it today". I was pretty sure she couldn't do it on the spot like that but I wasn't sure and she kept yelling at me and called me an unfit mother, mentally unstable, and she "wants to do what is going to piss you off the most".

I was so flustered and upset and crying (she even said "you can sure turn the water works on and off") that I couldn't think to say any of the things my ex has said about our son - that he will "gladly terminate his parental rights" if he can stop child support, that I should have had an abortion, the only reason he's around is because of child support, etc. She said she wanted to give his full custody and me the weekends, but she was going to be nice and do joint 50/50 custody starting immediately. She was trying to make me go and get my son and threatened to have the police go pick him up. I told her this is absurd, we live 100 miles away, I am the only person/parent he has had in his life since day 1 and he has only ever been away from me for one night and he is still nursing to which she replied "he's 3 and still nursing? that needs to stop" and I said "that's not your decision he's my child not yours" and she said "well better start pumping a bottle because that's what's happening".

She suspended the child support order and demanded he take my baby after court. I was given no documents or papers and he took my child and is being a smug asshole. He didn't even want him, he just wanted to not pay child support. How is this happening? I have a tribal advocate that says we are going to file an emergency appeal for order of stay to the appellate court but I cannot find a lawyer that knows tribal law still. Please help me!

*Edit - my question is how is this legal as nothing had been filed by either of us regarding custody. Don't I have rights to be notified of a pending custody case and a right to due process to prepared my evidence?*

[North Carolina] Neighbor cut down multiple trees on my property without permission

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 11:16 AM PDT

They did this 2 years ago, I sued and won, and they've just done it again yesterday.

This time they hired a company to cut the trees instead of doing it themself. Is the company at fault/liable or only my neighbor? They lied to the company about the property line.

Please see section C here, I don't fully understand it:

    https://www.ncleg.gov/enactedlegislation/statutes/pdf/bysection/chapter_1/gs_1-539.1.pdf

"(c) Any person, firm or corporation cutting timber under contract and incurring damages as provided in subsection (a) of this section as a result of a misrepresentation of property lines by the party letting the contract shall be entitled to reimbursement from the party letting the contract for damages incurred"

Wife has Left me and started taking our money. NJ

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 01:28 AM PDT

    Details

    • I have had a seemingly happy marriage until the past two months when my wife became pregnant
    • We have been arguing over theses two months, mostly about how my family make her feel.
    • Last Thursday 9/17 she asked for a divorce with little reason, It took me completely by surprise.
    • She has left home and is staying with family and friends
    • Monday 9/21 she had an abortion
    • Monday evening I went to buy some food and discovered she has managed to cancel my cards and my access to our joint bank accounts / savings.
    • This is particularly hard because I have been without any income since August. Largely because of her encouragement not to return to work in these COVID-19 times.
    • Over the course of our entire relationship we have made it a priority to pay off her student loans.

What am I to do? We only had about $15000 in savings. Is a lawyer even worth it for suck a small amount?

Would it hurt me to contact her and ask why she has cut me off? I am now left with $12 and a host of bills due in the next two weeks.

    Grandparents rights advice (Ohio)

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 02:06 AM PDT

My fiancé and I have an almost 5 month old daughter. We don't want his mother to see our daughter and she texted him last night saying she was going to contact a lawyer about grandparents rights. She has never liked me and never tried to form a relationship with me and when she found out I was pregnant, then she shown interest. She has only met our daughter once and she had like 6 shots of fireball the hour and a half we were there, although we don't have proof of that. All that aside, we don't think she would be a good influence because she is very irresponsible. She has received at least 1 DUI in the past year or so, she has 7 dogs that have not been around a baby - and one she has said didn't like children, she doesn't follow safe guidelines for covid (we have a text showing she wasn't willing to self quarantine for 14 days to see our daughter because "she deserves to still have fun"), she still drinks all the time and leaves her 13 year old daughter and 16 year old autistic son home by themselves so she can go out drinking and to a lake house (his grandmother, her mother, said she was worried about his sister because of this), and her boyfriend smokes a weed pen (she also does occasionally) and leaves it lying around anywhere. She's also not been a good mother to my fiancé when he was younger. For example; when he was in second grade she let his teacher take him on vacation, for two weeks, out of state without knowing her outside of school. She's careless and who knows what will happen if she is given visitation with our daughter. We both don't want his mom to see our daughter, but the only thing that's concerns us is that we are unmarried. I am going to contact a lawyer tomorrow, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Edit: added info.

My city lied to my title company while in the process of buying a house.

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 11:37 AM PDT

I bought a house in Feb of 2019 where my title company contacted the city prior to closing to confirm if there were any outstanding balances for the seller to pay prior to closing. They said no, there were no outstanding or pending charges. Just received a notice in Sept of 2020 stating the prior owner never paid 900$ for sidewalk repair and I must pay for it. My title company says the insurance they place on closing does not cover a claim where a party lied. I threatened the city with a lawsuit stating i have a signed statement from the title company stating they confirmed there was nothing outstanding. They are not backing down. Do i have to get a lawyer to fight this? How can this be legal?

[Texas] My sister will be committing suicide in another country, will be leaving me substantial sum via CC transfer to PayPal

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 02:30 AM PDT

My sister will be going overseas within the next couple of weeks with the intention of committing suicide. She will be leaving me a substantial sum of money via CC transfer to my PayPal account. She also plans on setting her apartment on auto-pay so that I can continue living there until the lease runs out. I am not on the lease in any way, even as a resident.

She claims that no harm is being done because she is allowed to do what she wants with her credit, and that I cannot be held liable because she doesn't have a will and that I am not her next of kin. She says that they will simply close her account if worse comes to worse and just take the loss.

Can I accept this money free and clear without worrying about legal or financial liabilities? Is there anything else I should know?

My medical school suspects I was cheating, I was petting my bird

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 01:16 PM PDT

I'm in medical school and during one of our exams last week (which is proctored over Zoom and recorded) I was petting my bird in my lap. I know this was stupid but I have anxiety and I have a pet bird to help me cope and I was petting him in my lap during the exam. I thought it wouldn't be noticeable during the exam but apparently it was and they think I was on my phone.

I fully realize how stupid it was to be petting my bird, but I get debilitating test anxiety, where I fail questions I know the right answers to. I almost failed my first year, only passing because I worked extra hard during finals week to get stellar grades last minute to just barely pass. Taking exams in quarantine has been great for me because I can have my pet with me and help me cope and maintain a B average instead of several D's followed by one panicked A.

How should I present my case? I have no proof, it's just my word against a very incriminating video of me. It sounds like such a stupid answer to say I was petting my bird when any other person would be on their phone in such a situation. I'm terrified of getting expelled, I've taken out too many student loans and gotten too far to be kicked out now over something I didn't even do!

Can this guy sue me for making a video about him harassing a minor in public online?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:26 PM PDT

Basically, I'm making a video about a guy who has harassed a minor publicly over a website said minor made, and then out of spite, made his own website to compete with the one the kid made. The video will showcase his actions, all of which backed by pure hard evidence. He still, as of his writing, still not deleted any of his public messages involved in the situation, which I have collected. I do not plan to call him any nasty names. I will state how I feel about his actions, but will specifically state that it's my opinion. Also, the guy's site went down before making the video, but went back up after I finished audio recording for the video.

Before I received the news, I theorized in the video that the site went down for x reason, reaffirming that this was just a theory. Upon knowing that his site was back up, I made an update to the video draft with news that his site did seem to go down based on evidence for the same x reason I theorized.

And last but not least, the topic covered in the video is a matter of public concern as it affects a large community online, at least that's what I assume but if public concern does not apply to online communities someone please let me know.

With that said, yes I have done reading on defamation. I am still not sure if I am safe to continue however. Can this guy sue me? The main reason why I am concerned is because this guy has a nice chunk of money and most likely can afford a lawyer, while I can't. Plus his highly egotistical personality doesn't help. I live in Florida, USA.

Survey company started working on the survey several days AFTER I told them to cancel it, want's me to pay them $540 (FL)

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 09:48 AM PDT

    Hello,

About a month ago I contacted a survey company to do a survey to split a parcel of land and was put on a waiting list and was quoted the price of $750. On the 17th of this month, I found out that it would be prohibitively expensive to run utilities out to the land I had wanted to buy, so I contacted them via e-mail to cancel the survey as it would no longer be necessary. Yesterday I got an e-mail from them saying that they already had 4 1/2 hours of field work on the survey completed, and that I would be liable for that, which I was okay with.

However, my potential problem with that is that on the invoice, it says that they did not do the field work in question until yesterday, the 21st. If the work had been done prior to me requesting them to not to the job, I'd have absolutely no qualms about paying them for their labor, but it doesn't sit right with me that several days after the cancellation request they then do part of the work and charge almost the full price of the survey. It also is not any kind of deposit or administrative fee, they literally say it was for time spent in the field doing the work.

I never signed any kind of agreement, we just e-mailed a few times where I told them the property to be surveyed and they gave me the price. What are my obligations to pay what feels like an unfair price? Would I be justified in ignoring them, short of any official summons?

We are in an area that was hit by Hurricane Sally, if that matters.

Edit: I also contacted the owner of the land, who is a family friend, and she said that she neither saw a survey crew yesterday, or any flags/evidence of a crew on the property today.

Local community college backs out of partnered degree program, tuition/time wasted?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 06:30 AM PDT

    Hey all,

So my GF is enrolled at a local community college in a 3+1 nursing program that is partnered with a state university (Massachusetts). Initially the plan was for her to do her prerequisites through the CC, and all of her credits would transfer to the SU to wrap up her degree (and come out to be cheaper than the SU start to finish).

Now heres where it gets hairy. The plan was supposed to be two years at the community college and a year and a half at the state school. because of the way it's structured and how the classes are all prerequisites for one another, they managed to extend that time to a projected 4 years (yes, twice the advertised time) before she'd have everything she needed to transfer to the state school for her final year/degree. Infuriating, but she's already 2 1/2 years into the program so she's basically trapped until the end of it or else she's wasted the last 2 1/2 years.

On top of that, today she was notified that her 3+1 program is coming to an end next year. The school neglected to mention that the program was dependent on a federal grant that already had an expiration date at the time of enrollment. Because of the waitlist for the program, this made it impossible for 2018 enrollees to complete the program before the program expired. Is this negligence?

Basically, she's been tricked into paying for and attending school, buying books and uniforms, taking work off, and sidelining her personal life for two and a half years, and they're not offering a back up solution.

Are there any systems in place to hold this school accountable for this loss? What are our options

    "Illegal" Dumpster dumping advice

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 10:25 AM PDT

Ok so this is so dumb I can't believe I am even writing here, but hear me out.

I own a small business in Florida. I have a dumpster by the building that you can see from the street. I pay almost $200/month for weekly pickup. My business is run such that we fill the dumpster up to the brim each week. If the lid is at all open, aka overfilled at all, I get charged a fee from the garbage company. Occasionally I have come to work the next day and people have thrown in boxes and large garbage, which really messes things up for our ability to throw away our garbage. We have to take all the boxes out and then break them down, put them behind the dumpster and spend the next several weeks throwing the boxes away such that the dumpster isn't overfilled, otherwise we get charged more. This doesn't happen that often, such that it isn't a huge problem despite how annoying it is.

Now, We have started to have someone over the past maybe 3 months who on an almost weekly basis has been dumping his trash, in trash bags, in our dumpster. There have been times that because of his trash that we are overfilled and get charged extra. He is doing this during working hours or end of day hours. Twice he did it while an employee was out outside on break, the first employee was not confrontational enough to say anything but did take a picture of his car, the second employee was at the end of the day and said, "you know this is not a public dumpster, right?", which he replied that yes he knows, and then proceeded to dump his trash right in front of her. She was the only person at the office at the time and did not feel comfortable trying to stop him. It has now gone from a problem with messing up our ability to throw away trash and getting charged more, to a matter of pure principle, and I am making it my mission to get him to stop. I got a sign that says the dumpster is private and dumping trash in it will result in prosecution, even though I realize it was just a sign that meant nothing, bit I figured it was worth a short to maybe get him to stop, which resulted in finding a big loogey on the lid and his trash inside. I have now just spent an extra $200 to get a dumpster with a lock bar, which I will be locking once I get the lock. However I have a feeling he will just leave his trash by the dumpster at that point, or maybe even try and cut the lock, as he is clearly quite brazen.

So, do I actually have any legal recourse here? I assume the most would be some sort of fine for this individual, but maybe that would get him to stop. Is it even worth it? I can't believe I am even wanting to pursue something like this for dumping garbage, but I now refuse to back down on this issue, less because of it even effecting our garbage flow or getting charged, but because it just has me pissed off. I assume I can probably go through his garbage and get something that has a name/address.

    Thanks for any help/advice

Please help, I'm concerned for my safety

    Posted: 21 Sep 2020 06:57 PM PDT

I'm using a throwaway so that my relative does not attempt to track me further. A few years ago I escaped an abusive household with the intent on cutting contact completely. A relative of mine works in the City Auto Licensing office of Boise, Idaho and tracked my car to a new location in Washington state when I left. I have since changed cars, and license plates, and moved several times. I have two questions.

    1. Is what they did illegal? Can they really use the city's system to track my whereabouts for personal reasons?
    2. Is there any way they can track where I am now that I have new plates? How can I keep them from being able to know where I am?

I feel very unsafe now that I know they have even a rough idea of where I'm living. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(Florida)My deceased mother made some serious mistakes when purchasing her home from her ex boyfriend 14 years ago. I think she was conned out of $56,000.00 Long read

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 11:51 AM PDT

Hello all, I've previously posted here, with what I thought was all the information. Turns out it wasn't, and I now have all the pieces to this puzzle, and I'm left scratching my head, because I can't believe someone would be so foolish with that amount of money. Plus 80% of this I had no idea happened till after she passed away.

Okay, so this started before my mother passed away. I had to get POA to handle her banking since she was unable to do so. A friend who was helping my mother and I asked about a will. The only will was one written on a piece of notebook paper that said, when I die, my son gets my property, and was notarized. So the lady said we should probably use a quit claim deed to pass the property over to me since probate is expensive. So that was done, and registered at the court house.

Fast forward a couple days after my mom passes, I get a call from her ex-boyfriend. He offers condolences, and then inquires about the property. I let him know that I'm probably going to sell it, and he says there was an agreement between my mom and himself. That said if she ever passed away he would have first dibs at the property for $1,000 down and $400 a month till the value is paid off. I told him I never heard anything about that, he said check your moms safe(my mom never had a safe). I told him if he could furnish a copy of that, we would go from there. Then he spent the next few minutes telling me all sorts of lies trying to butter me up. Havent heard from him since.

About a month later my neighbor comes up and offers me 20k on the spot for the property(at best its worth 30k). I said its a great offer, but I want an appraisal, and a realtor because I know nothing about real estate law, or what it is worth now. So I get it appraised, get a realtor, he runs a title search, his words are "its a cluster fuck, you need to probate this". So I contact a probate lawyer, he runs his own title search. Im informed that there was an issue with the POA so it has to be probated. However there is a larger issue. Your mother purchased this from (the ex-boyfriend) with a quit claim deed, and he as the grantor never signed it.

So my follow up to that is, my mom never technically owned this property? He said technically no, you need to contact him and have him sign the deed over to you. Well, I never liked the guy, and literally days after my mom passed he tried to manipulate me into selling him this place because it has sentimental value to him and my mom. They hadn't dated in 10 years, and have spoken maybe 4 times since then.

Now Ive done some digging, I saw on my county clerk of courts website where he received his deed at the end of July of 2006. I also saw where my mother acquired the property in March of 2008. Sure enough on the quit claim deed, she signed it, the witness signed it, the notary signed it, he the grantor did not sign it, and the county accepted it. I also discovered where her ex bf had a lien put on the property by the IRS in December of 2009. How ever, the probate lawyer said he didn't see anything about the IRS lien on the title search. The probate lawyer said my best course of action at this point would be to contact him, have him sign over the deed, and throw him some money for doing so. Umm no, my mom purchased this property from him.

At this point, I'm confused, and am thinking maybe that was a copy before he signed it and the original is somewhere around here? Went through boxes of paperwork, but this time i find something different tucked away. I found a hand written "Mortgage Agreement" between my mom and her ex boyfriend.

Which says, "This mortgage agreement between mortgagor(my mom) and mortgagee(her ex boyfriend) in the sum of $54,000 with $35,100 down payment with $400 per month payment on $18,900 starting on signed date. In case of the mortgagors untimely demise, the mortgagors son(me) has right to continue mortgage agreement, or repayment of all monies paid in. Returned at same monthly payment of $400 per month. In case of untimely demise of mortgagee, mortgage agreement is passed over to his son."

This of course is signed, dated by both of them, and is notarized by someone with the same last name as him. I'm livid, by the fact that she agreed to this, brought me into it with out my consent, and paid $56k for property that in 2006 was valued at 25k. Then on top of that knowing that now she never owned it! It also made 0 sense to me how he was the mortgagee because he didn't have a steady job, had his wages garnished due to child support and lawyer fees. Then I realized it, at this time, my mom had just received 70k from her moms estate sale. There was also paper work with this where it broke down how much she paid, when, and in some cases what for specifically, all in her hand writing, There was also an itemized statement for a $18,000 construction project on the land. The final payment is dated June 2008.

So from what I've put together, My mom received her inheritance, entered into a secret mortgage where she paid double the land value in June of 2006, which was never registered with the clerk of courts. In July of 2006 her ex-boyfriend some how acquired the funds to pay off his mortgage AND enter said secret mortgage as the mortgagee. All this while not having steady work, and oweing thousands of dollars in legal fees/child support. Over the next year and a half mom made payments and also financed a construction project on the property. In March of 2008 a quit claim deed was registered into the clerk of courts, even though it wasn't signed by the grantor. She finished paying off her "mortgage" in June of 2008. That year she received a letter with her name and this address informing her of the amount due for property taxes. Which she paid for the following three years. From 2010- present day I have lived here with her, taking care of all bills including property tax till she passed away.

I have no idea what to do here, real estate lawyer, squatters rights, do I message him on Facebook asking him to sign the deed over to me. Do i have a lawyer ask him to sign it over to me, Im at a total loss, any direction would be great. Thank you!

What should I do if my property manager doesn't fix the internet?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:35 PM PDT

I'm currently living in Los Angeles and living in Tripalink housing. They provide fully furnished apartments with utilities included. The problem I have is that the internet here goes out every single week. I've missed class and work and it's gotten to the point where I had to pay $100 for a power bank and sit outside of a Starbucks to get an internet connection.

I've reported this to the property manager every single week and he keeps saying that the internet issues are out of his control and that he's already invested a lot of money to make sure that the internet works. But at this point, I don't care how much money he's invested in a router, if it's not working, it's a problem. The rent that I'm paying covers all utilities including a reliable internet connection which I'm not getting anymore.

What should I do? Is there anyone else that I can report this issue to?

Sold car and it was towed before being registered. Who will have to pay? Reno, Nv

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 09:27 AM PDT

HI, My daughter's car broke down and couldn't be fixed. A friend of a friend of hers offered to buy it and sell for parts. Apparently he tried to contact my daughter to say we signed on the wrong line on the title which may be true. She didn't get pass it on to me and the car gets towed. I have the bill of sale but I didn't enter it until yesterday on the website. I don't have the car title because he does. The towing company sent me the bill for towing and storage because it was last registered in my name. He says it is on me because I signed the wrong line. My question is will I be responsible for the bill and what should I do? Thanks for any help.

[SD] A worker stole a credit card and ran up over $500 trying to provide necessities for his family. Options?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 11:54 AM PDT

It's a little over $500. I can afford the loss although it infuriates me. I contacted the bank and reported the fraudulent activity and then found out who did it. I found out through one of his payments for electricity who it is. Is the bank likely to report it to local authorities? If I pay the bank in full, would that avoid legal proceedings against him? The cards were stacked against him when he was born. His wife and small children will suffer if charges are levied. Options?

Can my boss charge me for an accident?

    Posted: 22 Sep 2020 12:20 PM PDT

TDLR: My boss is making me pay for a broken bottle of liquor. Can he do that?

Hello all! I'm in KY and I work at a liquor store/bar. Stocking bottles I accidently dropped an expensive bottle of tequila. My coworker said we had a "You break it, you buy it" policy. While I understand I asked my mom about it (who once worked at a bar) and said he should have insurance to cover damages/accidents and said she never had to pay for broken inventory. A fellow coworker who also worked in the booze business said she dropped a whole case of beer and didnt have to pay. Then, come to think of it when I worked at a gas station, we had a Write-Off list of damaged goods and us employees never had to pay for it. So Im here to ask, can he do that? Ive researched it and it basically said no but Im still unsure. Doesnt he have to have insurance? He hands me my check and asks to cash it himself then take a percentage, then have me hand him the cash, instead of deducting it from my check. When I looked that up it said he cant deduct it bc it would make my minimum wage drop below the legal line. Is there a loophole here? He said I have to pay him by the end of the week. I want to confront him but I want to make sure Im correct, I like this job and the people but I dont want to get fired for it. Hes kind of shifty w how he gets money (he owns 3 stores, takes some of our tips, charges $.50 to pay w card and pay for damaged goods when Im thinking he may be claiming insurance and pocketing our money. He also made me and my coworker pay $25 each bc a register came up short $50) Any advice on the matter would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
