After 8 years I am on my final 3 days, thanks to the advice on this sub! Posted: 02 Sep 2020 10:48 AM PDT previous threads: https://old.reddit.com/r/sales/comments/i98nlw/jumping_into_saas_any_advice_for_a_first_timer/ https://old.reddit.com/r/sales/comments/i028w1/how_to_make_the_leap_from_industry/ My last 2 weeks are coming to an end this Friday, the past 8 days here have been interesting. I never received a counter offer from my current employer which I was a little surprised by, after 8 years I was hoping for SOMETHING. But I guess my new employer offered more than they could come close to. I have essentially experienced the 5 stages of grief since putting in my notice. Started to panic about changing jobs, thought maybe I could take it back, but I had already signed the contract so there was no going back, and as the days rolled on I was reminded of why I was looking forward to change of scenery. I currently sell office furniture and I cannot wait until I don't have to explain to people how a chair works haha. So as my final day approaches I wanted to thank the users who commented on my previous threads, sometimes getting a straight answer from internet strangers is more direct than the advice of friends and family. The future is uncertian for me and I've never been more excited/petrified than I am now. To those out there considering an industry change of scenery, it's a tough decision to make, and I feel I am as prepared as I can be, other than maybe having a few more dollars in the old bank account. But as the old saying goes change is good, make the leap! [link] [comments] |
I just broke the $400k mark for the first time ever and blew my budget out of the water! Posted: 01 Sep 2020 05:17 PM PDT I've been busting my butt for 14 months now in sales to build a $50k book into something big, and this month I did it! They gave me the goal of hitting $360k per month by the end of the end of this year, and I got to that level with 4 months to spare! All solid customers with additional on the way to keep me here and beyond! I'm so super stoked to have finally made it to this point and solidified my career with the company and proven myself worthy as an outside salesman! Before last year I had never been a salesman before in my life and they invested in me with a leap of faith that has paid off well for both parties. I know for some of you selling a higher or lower number per month, it might be difficult to put into perspective, but in my industry this equates to me breaking 6 figures in income per year, if I break $400k per month for 12 months straight. Definitely a huge accomplishment, and it was always my father's dream to hit 6 figures as an engineer but he retired before he ever achieved it, so I get to make him proud too! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:27 AM PDT There is another popular post right now where quite a bit of people were discussing their wages. The amount of comments about what is a good pay scale and what isn't have me kind of worried. I'm not an order taker, I go out and get business and new customers. B2B retail/customer vertical. Around 2 mil average in sales yearly. Base pay is around 20k, and commish is 2%. What do think salespeople? Does that sound about right? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Sep 2020 04:01 PM PDT Three times last month, I received nice emails from accounts about being quick to respond, or thanking me for helping them out on something. On each one, I sent them just a basic email:
All three contacted my manager. After the third, I received an email my manager's manager, who cc'ed us plus HIS manager, the newly appointed Sales President-turned-COO, which gives me that much more firepower for when my yearly raise discussion. Something is better than nothing. Maybe I won't get what I expect, maybe I will. But how hard is it to send an email, right? [link] [comments] |
Question from a manufacturer, to end users. Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:59 AM PDT I own a small detailing products manufacturering company. Want the best way in your view as the end user that a company like mine can reach you and convince you to try our products. I wont share any info on company here as I don't want to be accused of trying to sell here. [link] [comments] |
I think I lost my Mojo, how can I reignite my flame Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:53 AM PDT I own a small manufacturing company and I handle the direct sales to customers at their location if business, I feel so unmotivated lately to get out there and push my products which sell very well and all locations where we distribute to. I just don't know how to refocus and rekindle myself, anyone else deal with this? [link] [comments] |
IT Sales Manager Compensation? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 11:00 AM PDT I have been the sole salesperson for an IT consulting firm that implements and integrates a major business software package. We have recently begun adding salespeople to the team who I now manage but both I and the leadership of the company realize that my time is now being split between selling and training / supporting the rest of the sales team and as such, my compensation plan needs to be adjusted. I am looking to propose an override on the sales of the whole sales team (for sales where I am not the primary seller). I would love to hear how fellow IT Sales Managers are being compensated at their organizations based upon their own selling and the sales of their team members. Any input for me r/Sales? Thanks! Is Sandler Training The Best There is in sales? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 01:20 AM PDT How does it compare with Jordan's Straight Line System, SPIN, or Challenger? I'm in sales as an entrepreneur, I should add! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:55 AM PDT Hey people! I'm planning to switching my job to a senior level. So a litlle background about me. I moved into inside sales a year ago. I'm part of marketing and business development for a Data Analytics company. I had worked for a logistics company for 2 years in the past in the Operations team. What kind of roles can I mention I my logistics experience to add to my sales experience, so that I can show an overall of 3 years in Business development. Not completely, but atleast customer interactions. [link] [comments] |
Transitioning from IS to AM Position, seeking advice Posted: 02 Sep 2020 09:43 AM PDT Hey everyone, I recently parted ways with my company from an Inside Sales role in the wine/spirits distribution industry. I looked at options in other industries and roles that seemed similar to what I was doing previously. I saw that account management was a role in which they farm accounts and sell in extra features to warm customers that have been already working with the company and seemed to place an emphasis on relationship building and consultative selling. These are skills that come naturally to my former job as we worked with customers seeking to purchase exclusive brands from my former company and our job was to upsell and cross sell other types of product, while selling in solutions for their struggles in their cocktail menu/wine list. Anyway, I recently applied to several Account Manager types of positions in hopes of landing an interview but it seems that just about all of them have rejected me. Now I realize that the marketplace for these kinds of jobs is competitive, and I'm patient and flexible to find the best role, but I also want to make sure that I'm approaching this correctly. Are there any suggestions you might make in getting your foot in the door for an interview opportunity? Thanks again everyone, cheers. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:40 AM PDT Quarantine has been challenging for me sales-wise, and I feel like I haven't gotten a whole lot of new "Major Opportunities". My struggle is just not being able to get a hold of anyone. I have a lot of prospects, but my 'attempt to reach' ratio is very low. I've tried cold calling, cold emailing, linked in, etc. but am pretty limited since I am stuck working from home (aka can't just stop by their business). Of all the major deals you are currently working on, or have gotten since the start of quarantine — how did you have your first intro? Was it via cold call or email or referral based or LinkedIn, etc.? [link] [comments] |
How do I negotiate for a higher base pay and total target earnings for my first AE role? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:29 AM PDT BLOT: been with this company for 2 years, I'm interviewing for a promotion to associate AE and it's going very well. I make $95K right now, how do I negotiate for a high total target for this promotion? What do I ask for? I'm (25F) interviewing for a promotion to Associate Account Exec position for a territory containing small named and geo accounts at my existing software company. I expect my quota to be 3.5-5 million. In the past 2 years, I've moved up from technical support, to inside sales engineer, and now hopefully to AE. I graduated in 2017, just for reference of my experience level. The promotion will require relocation to San Francisco area, which is way more expensive than where I live now. I've heard rumors that the company I work for does not like to negotiate for compensation. But this is going to be a significant increase in work load and effort, and I've proven I'm diligent and conscientious. How do I negotiate? What do I ask for? I'm scared of getting low-balled and accepting for fear of missing this opportunity!! Any suggestions or personal experiences are appreciated. Thank you all so much :) [link] [comments] |
Working for US company remotely in EU Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:38 AM PDT Is it possible or not? I see the numbers basic SDR/BDR's make in US at it just demotivates me to keep pushing myself, since reward in EU is significantly less. With the rise of remote working, this might be interesting to discover. You are welcome to shatter my optimism with some harsh reality of such scenario [link] [comments] |
Sending hiring manager an agenda for an interview? Posted: 02 Sep 2020 08:22 AM PDT I have an interview coming up and I wanted to send over a brief agenda to the hiring manager before the interview to display an added level of professionalism. My recruiter has told me some of the high level topics we will be disucssing and I want to leave the agenda open ended so he can potentially add a couple things if I missed anything to better prepare for the call. Is this usually a no go on communicating with the hiring manager before a second round interview? We have already done one interview together. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 04:28 AM PDT Hey everyone, Looking for some advice on this. I am looking to put together a 30/60/90 day plan for a position I am interviewing for (they asked for it). I've never written one, so I was interested on your guys take on what to include. Some additional context; The position is in the financial services industry, where I will be hunting and gathering assets from existing bank clients and positioning them internally with a salaried planner. I'll be writing my designation exam in november, and finishing the course that leads up to that exam this month. I have 5 years experience in a role similar to this, so i'm not coming into it blind. Any input is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:59 AM PDT I'm currently working for one of the photocopier manufacturers in the UK, but over lockdown a lot of the things they did and the general upper managements old-school way of doing things has made me want to leave. My main concern is that their targets are really high, so I have always been below target (as is mostly everyone in the company), so wasn't sure how this would look to future employers. I'm also not sure what the general perception of people trying to come out of copier sales is like. Anyone with similar experiences or who can offer any advice it would be really appreciated [link] [comments] |
Looking to get into Salesforce Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:48 AM PDT Anyone in here work for Salesforce or a consultant? I completed the ADM201-Essentials for New Admins Course with a previous employer and I'm looking to pivot into a sales role. I know getting into Salesforce itself is probably difficult, but I'm noticing a ton of smaller consultant companies that are hiring as well. Any advice for getting in the door? Should I go for my certification? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:19 AM PDT I sell a product to very low income individuals, and they are some of the most rude and inconsiderate individuals I've ever talked to, and it always puts me in a shitty mood whenever I have to work. I get cussed out multiple times a day, and just yelled at for doing my job/trying to help these people. Anyone got any advice? [link] [comments] |
Housing budgets for us commission driven animals Posted: 02 Sep 2020 07:15 AM PDT Feel like a lot of us have had the same thoughts when looking at new apartments "my base says my housing should be $x,xxx, but if I look at how I did last year and my pipeline for this year I should be able to afford $y,yyy" How do you all budget for apartments/housing? Is it a bad idea to budget using my projected income rather than guaranteed income? [link] [comments] |
Desperation to quit my sales job. Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:55 AM PDT I'm currently in an insurance sales job, where my father is my boss. I've been in the industry for a few years now, and when I first started, I loved it. It's all commission-based, with residuals and renewals. That's why I stuck it out. Also, I don't have a college degree, and figured sales was the easiest job I could get. I've seen the glory, and the ugliest sides of the insurance industry. It was all glory, fun, and games. I made great friends, went on cool trips, etc. Then, the ugly side started showing itself. A lot. Friends that I made would have absolutely no problem screwing you over if it meant a sale for them. Leads would be stolen, lies would be told to make the sale. Unethical bullshit was happening nonstop in the office. Definitely not a new characteristic to sales, but another reason I want out. I was moved to a higher position. Started working with a team. Was running trainings, helping team make sales and calls, etc. My personal numbers dipped quite a bit. After running a team (admitting longer than I should have), my father and another manager sat down and said, we can take 2 routes. First route is keep you as where you are, and you need to turn things around today, or take your team so you can start focusing on personal numbers. I said take my team, let me focus on personal numbers. They agreed that was the best route. Even though I was basically moved aside, and a new manager was brought in, I'm still doing a ton of the work as an old manager. Still the first one in the office, always the last to leave. New sales reps will come in, and I'm the one that's holding trainings, whether it's about product, or sales tactics, or script practice. I'm doing it, however, not getting the overrides on new agents. I make $0.00 when I go over any of this stuff. And it's been like that since I was moved aside. I tried focusing on my personal numbers, but since then, I haven't been able to build back up. It has hit me mentally, and I stress and have anxiety every day coming to work. I have a therapist now that I talk to almost every day about work. There are constant and consistent weeks where I don't make sales. I'm living off my residuals/renewals. If I don't make a sale in a month, those residuals/renewals are taken away for the month. The products make people upset when they go and use them. People don't like insurance when they have to use it. Who is our happiest customer? A customer that doesn't have to use their product. Now, I will say, normally when somebody has to use any sort of insurance, it means something went wrong, so they're generally in a pissed off mood as it is. Lots of exclusions, items not being covered because they didn't by this or that to tack on to their original purchase. For my mental health, I really do want to get out. My biggest fear though is disappointing my father, and not necessarily knowing where I am going after this. I recently started studying again and am lucky to not have to drive to a campus because classes are all online. I have an end goal, and this specific type of sales is not it. I guess the reason I made this post it, I want out. How the hell do I get out? [link] [comments] |
COVID19 Sales Reps risk assessment Posted: 02 Sep 2020 06:29 AM PDT Hi all. Hoping you can help. My H&S bod is being a bit of a dick about risk assessments for COVID. I want to get back out and start seeing customers but he keeps fobbing me off. Has any one got any risk assessments that deal with going to see customers in their settings they'd be willing to share / resources to look at online so i can write my own and submit it? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Sep 2020 05:19 AM PDT For the guys here who've been doing this for a few years now, and have 2-3 positions under their belt what's your best advice/things you wish you'd done preparing for the next job. Right now I have a great job I smash quota every month but the base is <50k with an OTE of 70k and I'll be lucky to hit 80-90 this year. It's a full cycle role so I have closing experience and would like to find an AE role somewhere with a higher base and OTE. What can I do here and in the new year to best prep myself for the search when the time comes? [link] [comments] |
