Why are local governments paying Amazon to destroy Main Street? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 06:19 AM PDT https://fortune.com/2020/08/23/amazon-coronavirus-taxes-local-governments/ The coronavirus pandemic has brought new scrutiny to the way in which Amazon treats its warehouse workers, whose exhausting, precarious positions now come with a decent chance they'll be exposed to a deadly virus. And yet, Amazon is going gangbusters to expand its network, opening new facilities all across the country with the aid of compliant cities and states and little recognition of Amazon's devastating impact on local economies. In North Andover, Mass., for instance, Amazon recently received $27 million in public funding to build a new warehouse. In Windsor, Conn., it was $8.8 million. The property taxes for a new Amazon distribution center in Glenwillow, Ohio, will be reduced by nearly half for 15 years. And the e-commerce giant is receiving taxpayer dollars for distribution facilities in Whiteland, Ind., and Arlington Heights, Ill., too. Overall, Amazon has received nearly $3 billion in subsidies from state and local governments. There are surely other handouts in the works. [link] [comments] |
Would you invest 150k tomorrow? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 10:32 AM PDT Hello, Would you invest 150k tomorrow in the sp500 or nasdaq? Every where I read everyone says invest now and that time in the market beats all. On the flip side I look at how high everything and what is going in the market and I have a hard time swallowing that I should invest "now". For context 150k is most of my life savings. It's sitting and doing nothing. Eventually I'd like to get an apartment for myself. Thanks [link] [comments] |

How stock splits affect charts Posted: 23 Aug 2020 12:31 PM PDT It occurred to me that while a stock split doesn't affect a company's valuation, wouldn't the price be reflected in the chart as it gets divided by 2 or 4 or whatever? I found this explanation helpful. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 23 Aug 2020 06:49 AM PDT I have limited amount of money I've put in market (5000e) as I'm on minimum wage with 2 kids in relatively poor country so i cannot load more on a regular basis. I'm 2 months into this and made decent return so far, like 25%. If I kept my initial purchases i would double my account by now but I was okay selling for 3-5% gain and repeat. My goal is to build my account to reduce the risk and diversify as much. The other day I purchased 500e worth stocks which jumped 10 to 13 and now it's consolidating there. Thing is, I believe in this stock to go much higher in future but for 500e investment 150e is good amount to pick up and put in use elsewhere. Or not? This is doubt I always run into. How do you guys approach this? Maybe any books on this topic you can recommend? [link] [comments] |
How do you prepare for a market crash? Posted: 23 Aug 2020 06:48 AM PDT Given that there is a potential market crash right around the corner, how is it that you invest, spend, or save your money? What strategies do you use to increase wealth in your portfolio while still giving yourself the chance to reinvest after the crash? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 23 Aug 2020 06:54 AM PDT Okay guys, so please don't kill me but I have a serious question, also I'm an investing noob and trying to learn. I've been thinking lately that the stock prices are incredibly at an all time high (we all know that), but isn't that a bad thing? Let's say that in 10+ years Amazon gets valued in at $7,000... Nobody would be able to buy that, and furthermore, I just feel like this notion does not make any sense at all. I've heard about corrections, and dropping total stock market percentages, but that won't be enough for these types of companies. In 10 years perhaps the standard of living will be higher, and people will be earning more. But can someone with patience please explain to me how this type of significant exponential curve works and how that isn't "bad" for the stock market? This is obviously a good thing for anyone that got in years ago, but what about for the next generation? Perhaps fractional shares will be used more because of it. My question is referring not only AMZN but other stocks that might have a very high price. [link] [comments] |
Getting into trading as a teen Posted: 22 Aug 2020 11:48 PM PDT I opened up a robin hood account under my dads name and I want to begin investing. Any tips on how to predict the market, stocks to buy, or when to sell? Everything is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
