Do Saas SDRs and AEs make a base? Are the projected earnings in job postings accurate?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 07:31 AM PDT

Currently working as a leasing agent at a property management company. I really enjoy the sales aspect of my job. I of course use a CRM system, do local outreach, call potential prospects, and make postings on social media. I do have a very minor commission that I make. But my main money comes from base salary.

I have am currently going back to school for CIS with a focus in programming. But I have been really interested in trying for a larger sales role position.

I am particularly interested in Saas. From my current understanding it can be difficult, not impossible, to break into. However, when looking at different open positions I have noticed no mentions of base salary. Do these roles typically not make a base? I have been seeing positions in SDR with projections of $50-70k, and AE $70-100k. Are these pretty accurate? How do you ensure you are getting in at a legit company that isn't lying about pay potential earnings, and not turning through new hires?

Any advice is very much appreciated.

    Retaining an account?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 02:28 AM PDT

I'm a solo-founder with previous sales experience in the investment niche.

I'd like some advice on how (apart from providing a good service, I do) I can retain accounts, and what sort of churn to expect.

I'm in the digital services niche. Think social media strategy consulting.

    Thanks in advance.

Starting a sales job (real estate) again after 1.5 years of being unemployed

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 09:05 AM PDT

Hi, people! I would be starting a new job on real estate sales. So a little background, I have an experience beforehand on working in real estate. Most of the clients I had (succesfully closed sale) were the ones I handed over a flyer that eventually led to a discussion and presentation. I wanted to expand my reach to clients and with this pandemic going, basically we will be working from home.

What would you advice me to redeem myself again in the sales industry? What do you think would be the top sales strategy today?

Thank you so much in advance!

The properties I'm selling are in the Philippines (if that matters)

iPad recommendations for working on the road?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 08:14 AM PDT

I won't be working on the road for a while due to COVID but have been thinking about getting an iPad anyway. We have a son who is a couple hours away at college so there will be so it would be nice for those trips. I even like the idea of being able to use it to submit forecast on light weeks. But when we do go back to seeing clients, I will travel up to 3 hours to see them. My amazing SE generally drives so I can keep up with work. The laptop is cumbersome and the phone is difficult to navigate because it's so small. I was thinking an iPad would be perfect for this.

It would be nice to access SFDC and our internal booking tool (CCW) while on the road, and of course outlook. It seems like a basic iPad should work fine for all this, I can't think of any reason why I would need the pro. That seems more suited for creative needs or to replace the need for a laptop. I already have a MacBook so no need to replace that. Curious if anyone has any thoughts or recommendations.

ChemE Technical Sales to BDR (SaaS) worth for long term?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 10:18 AM PDT

Currently in a technical engineering sales position with a chemical engineering degree for the last 5 years making around ~100K OTE.

I have an opportunity to switch in a BDR (SaaS) position that will be a pay cut (70-80K OTE) and no longer utilize my degree. As I'm researching about SaaS and the upward movement towards an AE I'm wondering if the target earning will be greater as I grind it out.

As I'm not experienced in the SaaS business but my current role has no upward movement.

Best scalable inbox structure for inbound sales

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 08:06 AM PDT

I am currently looking at Dynamics as a CRM/ERP system and have a dilemma about inbox structure/sales process moving forward. I want a scalable solution. Any help would be appreciated.

We get roughly 160 inbound sales enquiries per day and have a team of 12 in inbound sales. Usually questions are just confirming web details i.e. the price, lead time and sometimes discount. It is really about speed of response and there is my questions.

Originally, each inbound sales had their own inbox. New enquiries would be routed through a central sales@ address and assigned to the sales person based on previous dealings or language spoken. Responses would come from the sales person and not the sales address.

Some customers would email an inbound sales person directly rather than going through the standard mailbox. The problem with this approach was if someone was sick, left or had too much work. Their inbox was unchecked and customer would get a delayed response.

We moved to a central sales@ inbox where responses and quotes would come from that address. This is really good for visibility and enables a faster response to customers. Unfortunately it means we have to have one person managing the inbox. I dont want to hire more people in manage the inbox when we grow. It is also difficult to attribute who got the sale as a few people could be involved in the quote. I cannot see a similar solution in dynamics or find other companies doing the same in a b2b environment.

    Anyone got any ideas?

Have you ever considered offering a "Double Your Money Back Guarantee" to a customer ?? Would it be applicable in you niche ?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:55 AM PDT

I have recently stumbled on a Video Sales presentation for a product creation course.

Interesting presentation in many ways. The product idea is pretty simple and easy to create and the way the webinar is planned is quite savvy too.

Now what really amazed me is how the vendor offers two different yet non exclusive 100% satisfied or your money back guarantees.

The first one is the classic NQA 30 day money back guarantee.

Now the second one is daring but it really hits a potential pain point on the head. The idea is simple. They offer you to get not your money back but double your money back for an extended period of another 30 days.

What you have to do to qualify for that double your money back guarantee is basically show that you have gone through the lessons included in the course, that you have taken the actions (ie gotten a product ready, set a cart to sell it, etc ...) recommended in the course to make money with the product you created and if no money is made despite using the course's content, they give you twice the course's tag price back.

So it uses a very smart psychological trick with a double effect. First, it sets aside any money loss fear for the would be buyer and second it triggers a powerful motivation in the customer to fully go through the recommended steps and give their best shot at being successful, knowing that failure is covered. Pretty clever.

I wonder what their refund rate is but it has to be pretty low to make such a promise.

Can you be so sure of your product or service that you'd refund twice the amount paid for it if your product or service did not allow the customer to reach his goals or solve his problem or remove a pain point in his life or business ??

I am not including the link here but if some of you request it, I can post it here or send it via DM.

HOW WOULD YOU SOLVE THIS - dealing with a hurtful manager

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:21 AM PDT

    Hi Folks,

Just to give you some context, I work in a small company in India as a sales executive.

As you would know, in small companies, even though hierarchies defined they are not limited to.

One of the managers who I am NOT reporting to, gives me work and I perform it to the best of my ability and revert back to him.

But lately, I have been noticing that whenever I ask him a doubt or report anything, there is always a stream of anger rushing through him and it is obvious from his grin, raised tonality & body language.

He has also managed to falsely accuse me of many wrong things & reports its directly to my reporting managers & directors.

I have only been in the company for less than a year and he has been for more than a couple of years and has had a decent run wrt to sales.

But I feel that I am constantly being put down for no mistake of my own.

Taking that into consideration, how do I give him a piece of my mind without being offensive and stop this uncouth behaviour of his?

    Thanks

Are first contact calls still important?

    Posted: 09 Aug 2020 02:21 AM PDT

I currently work for a company that sells branded corporate gifts and promotional products.

As the sales person, one of the first things I was taught is to call the client/ prospect within minutes of receiving the lead which is generated by the website when the person makes their enquiry for a particular product.

With this call, we must introduce ourselves, discuss the product they enquired about and get any missing information, all in the meanwhile trying to build a rapport with this person so they dont go shopping around with other companies.

Lately, well for the past two years, I have noticed a shift with prospects, less are answering initial calls, when they do answer, it is usually met with reluctance to communicate. If we fail at making the first call, we need to send an introduction mail, which usually goes like "tried to give you a call, when will there be a good time to call you to discuss your enquiry" the email is better than that but it just gives you can idea.

So I tried something different, I will send a mail as quick as I can with a detailed quote of the requested product and a mock-up of the product with their logo/ artwork superimposed on the product to give them an Idea of what they expecting. My closing rate has increased since doing this and haven't actually spoken to the client at all.

So my question is, do people want to talk to sales people any more? And are first calls still important in the sales process?

General thoughts would also be appreciated

    Interview advice?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 11:44 PM PDT

Is anyone else undergoing a job search right now? I've been on 7 first round interviews this month and I'm not able to move past to the second round— is this considered normal?

I feel like that's a bit much, especially since I was invested in some of the positions I interviewed for. So it means, I'm probably sucking on the interview part.

If there are any hiring managers or recruiters that have any advice for anyone that's undergoing a job search: What's the best way to ace that first interview so you can be presented to the hiring manager?

    First day on the job

    Posted: 08 Aug 2020 08:40 PM PDT

Just as a little background, this is my first job in the sales industry, I will be selling solar. I think I will be good in sales because I've always had a side hustle of flipping clothes, shoes, car parts etc... I'm definitely a little nervous, I'm good really good at talking to people bht at the same time I'm very shy and I have a bit of anxiety. Any advice or tips, would be greatly appreciated

A little background on the job -

Starting out, I'm not even required to sell anything. At this point I just need to go D2D and get clients to set up appointments for our salesmen to close. So at this moment I'm not selling anything, I just need to set people up for appointments. Again, any advice for tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
