Can guilty party tell their insurance not to take my claim against them? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 12:50 PM PDT I think I understand how insurance works, but this is just seems so ridiculous it's making me second guess myself... In the past week I was in a car accident which another party was responsible for causing. It was a pretty clear cut case in terms of what happened and the officer at the scene said as much, then issued the other party a ticket. The other party begged me not to contact insurance because she was afraid of higher premiums. Against my better judgement I said I would get the car looked at and pass her a quote. The quote ended up being for $2700 but she says in her opinion the damage is max $300-500 and that's what she's willing to pay. I declined her ridiculous offer and opened a claim with her insurance instead. She keeps messaging me to tell me that it's her choice whether she covers this out of pocket or through insurance. This sounds ridiculous to me. I thought I understood how liability insurance works, but am I missing something? Can she tell her insurer that she wants to cover it out of pocket and for them to not take my claim? I'm in Illinois if it makes a difference though I doubt it would. Idk I think I'm just feeling blindsided by the sheer absurdity of what she's proposing... [link] [comments] |

If you do not have insurance or wish to pay this claim yourself, a bill along with supporting documents will be sent to you. Not sure how my medical insurance works in general in this particular example.... Posted: 09 Aug 2020 09:06 PM PDT Had to go to a clinic for 30 plus days. Was told by the clinic that the co-pay per visit was $30, however when I get my claim summary from my insurance, it says I am responsible for $70, and they paid $530. I am confused about the $70 because 1, my insurance says I have no medical bills, 2. I have paid different co pays in the past that were different than what my claim said my responsibility was for. For example, I paid a $40 co pay in the past, and the claim total was different. I also have not paid anything at all in the form of copays at this particular clinic or anything because again, my medical insurance says I don't have any bills and the clinic has never asked for payment. Other clinics I have gone to, I paid the co pay as I checked in. Between my employer and I we pay around $100 total every 2 weeks. Not sure what to do... [link] [comments] |
First time homeowner, curious about dog we may rescue. Posted: 09 Aug 2020 04:25 PM PDT Hey guys, Just wanted to get some input on this, my fiancé and I just closed on our first home together and we were looking at the idea of adopting a dog. We are looking at adopting a 8-12mo American bulldog who currently has heartworm and is in need of a home that can foot the vet bills, he would be on restricted exercise while the treatments continue. We however aren't sure how he would work in regards to insurance. We have a 6ft privacy fence that encompasses about 1/2 acre of our property, but don't know much about the dogs true breed, etc. can anyone give me some rundown on how this works with protecting ourselves as much as possible from liability, I'm not sure if these are considered dangerous dogs. Edit: location Ohio, current provider Geico. [link] [comments] |
Need advice on car crash, lady at fault lied and said she is not at fault. Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:30 PM PDT I was in a minor/moderate crash. No injuries, police were called and made a report. She was trying to take a left across a 2 lane road. She did not look both ways and then literally stopped, blocking my lane completely. I could not stop in time and we T-boned crashed. Before the police came she immediately completely admitted it was her fault. She also admitted it was her fault to a witness. The witness gave me his contact details and is on my side (he saw the whole thing). Anyways her insurance just contacted me and said she is not liable and will not fix my car. (Before I even contacted them)! How do I proceed? How firm do I need to be on the phone? How important is my witness who will backup my story? I've never had to do this and I'm a total noob. I just need my car fixed from this idiot drivers mistake. Thanks for any advice. [link] [comments] |
Weird question about Auto Insurances Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:53 PM PDT My dad had me as a rider on his insurance and has been overseas since the beginning of COVID. I've been getting his mail from his house and last week noticed a cancellation date from the company. The letter goes through information about how the company has cancelled the policy due to non-payment. I've since then applied and been accepted with a new company but now they're threatening to cancel my new, current policy because my last policy was cancelled with my former insurance provider. Should I be doing something different or am I stuck trying to pay my dad's policy off before being accepted again? Location: Florida [link] [comments] |
How is Allstate as an insurance company, are the nightmare stories about them true? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:01 PM PDT I was looking into Allstate as they seem to have top ratings in some reviews and I noticed that their plan options are good Ie they offer a more generous New Car Replacement up to 2-3 years, RV rental/ownership coverage which I am looking into buying or renting, roadside service up to 100 mile towing, and inexpensive riders for rideshare services including Uber eats. Apparently during the pandemic I heard some sources say they are also discounting rates as well as allowing coverage for deliveries of food or medications, activities that are generally excluded from personal policies. However I hesitated when I saw a lot of nightmare comments from those who had Allstate, including from a Justanswers.com expert in how are so greedy that they do everything possible to deny or hinder a legit claim and that when hailstones strike a neighborhood every home in the neighborhood that wasn't Allstate insured got compensated for roof damage however Allstate denied that their roof got damaged despite how it's equally damaged as all the other roofs in the neighborhood. I guess the same thing for car hail damage as well. I be curious are they really worse than other for profit companies like Liberty Mutual/safeco, nationwide, Geico, Travelers, Allied etc? Will this house need special insurance due to a drop off behind the fence in the back yard? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:41 PM PDT Hi all, Looking at a house and offer review is tonight. No time to contact insurance to figure this out so maybe someone can tell me. I live in Washington state. I don't want to waste the sellers time so I'd like to know someone's thoughts. This house has an excellent view, but right behind the fence in the photo is a steep drop off and down below is the next house. Probably over 30 feet or roughly that. Would this house require a special hazard insurance that's more expensive? The house was built in the mid 2000s and has built in drainage that's connected to a system. Also what are your thoughts on earthquake risk with a house like this and it sliding off the hill? Sorry I'm a little paranoid but also short on time. Liking the house a ton though and in really really nice neighborhood. [link] [comments] |
Question about after a small, tint, accident Posted: 09 Aug 2020 05:42 PM PDT This relates to car/auto insurance. This afternoon, I was backing out of a space and another girl was as well. We hit bumper to bumper. I drove forward straight back into my space. We got out to access the damage. I had a small scuff and they said they had a small scratch. I was an idiot and didn't take a picture. I got home and the dad called and he says they're going into the body shop cause we made "significant scratches" in the bumper. However, I was talking to a friend who works with cars. The damage on my car does not match up with the damage on theirs. We hit bumper to bumper. The scratches on their car went from left to right, as if they had been swiped. Again, my back left bumper hit their back right bumper. But, they sent pics of damage on the left side and center side? I sent them a message saying that the damage on their car does not match up with ours. Theirs is significantly more than mine, which makes no sense because it was a small bump. We didn't hit them hard enough to create that kind of damage. I kindly told them I would not pay for anything I did not do. They're also consistently saying how the damage was done by us. They've now involved their insurance. I've been told that if their insurance calls, I should give them my insurance info. However, I don't know if I should because the damage had clearly already been there. Some of the scratches looked weathered and darker, not lighter. Can I legally not give their insurance company my info? If they call, should I make a case for myself? Like, should I let them know how things aren't adding up? Should I contact my insurance? Turning 26 - how do I know if I’m eligible for Medicaid? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 04:38 AM PDT I can't find a clear answer anywhere but.... I live in Illinois. Getting dropped off my parents insurance due to age. Filled out the marketplace app and it immediately says I'm eligible for Medicaid. I put down that I don't have any income, but I do receive student loans from my grad program. Did I file incorrectly? Other than that, I am not currently working due to COVID and supporting myself through my savings account from my previous employment. School starts in August so I probably won't start working again anytime soon. Am I actually eligible for Medicaid? Or should I buy a plan via the marketplace instead? I'm on a few medications as well and want to make sure I can maintain access to them. Any help would be appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Question about car accident Insurance Posted: 09 Aug 2020 12:08 PM PDT I was recently involved in a car accident (Live in TX) where I was lucky enough that only my front fender was damaged (The other two cars in the crash were totaled) and I was wondering if I am supposed to file a claim to my insurance over it? I do not have any information on the other two vehicles on the crash since they were taken to the hospital but I do have a police report of the accident. It seems that it would cost me about 300 to fix the fender myself which is less than my 500 deductible but I am unsure how that works. Would this increase my insurance rate as well? Details of the accident: I was sitting at a red light when one car rear ended the other and the impact sent one of the cars over to my lane and hit my car. [link] [comments] |
Any way to avoid premium increase? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:51 PM PDT I'm 25 live in Georgia and just had a minor accident in a parking lot (have not had any accidents or moving violations before this). I was backing out of a space at the same time as the car directly behind me. We both had minor damage to our back bumpers and at the scene agreed neither of us were at fault since we were both backing out. We swapped info and both said we'd report to our insurance. When taking to my insurance they were asking who's car was further out of the space as that is used to declare fault. I really am not sure who was further out (if I had to guess I'd say the other car), but if they use that to say I'm at fault is there anything I can do to avoid a premium increase? We still need to get quotes but is there a chargeable accident limit in Georgia that I should be aware of? Does it ever make sense to pay for damages out of pocket? Honestly I'd be ok with forgoing repairs on my car if it prevents a rate hike, but the other car was luxury and likely pricier to repair. Not trying to shirk blame, but want to make sure I do what I can to pay the least money long term (between repairs now and premiums for the next 3 years). Happy to provide more info if that would help. [link] [comments] |
Why is it cheaper to be on parents car insurance policy? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 03:21 PM PDT I'm sort of confused by this. Either way, the risk of an accident is the same no matter which policy I'm on. Why would it be cheaper to be on my parents insurance policy? EDIT: I'm in Arizona, but the question applies across the board. [link] [comments] |
What is my best option for insurance until my new insurance starts in November? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 02:47 PM PDT Hi - I currently live in Texas, and am switching jobs. I am eligible for health insurance at my new job in 3 months, so starting in early November. I had Blue Cross/Blue Shield at my old job. I want to have coverage in case I get sick with coronavirus. I've researched some short-term plans, but they seem not to be ideal. Any input on best options at the moment? I am a healthy, non-smoking 30 year old male in good shape. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2020 02:34 PM PDT Example minor accident - no one hurt, no fault determined (i.e 50-50). Car A has $2000 in damage, Car B has $500 in damage. Will Car B person/insurance have to pay to Car A? [link] [comments] |
Best plan for 36 years old healthy female Posted: 09 Aug 2020 02:19 PM PDT Hiya! I am a 36 years old Canadian female in perfect health, currently living in LA (I am not an American citizen so not sure I am qualified for Medicare) and I was wondering what is the cheapest and best plan I can get that can prepare me if any disaster or unexpected health scare occurs that would prevent me from going into debt. I am Canadian and unfamiliar with the American health insurance system. Let me know. Thanks! I may go see a doctor once a month. No dental or vision plan needed. [link] [comments] |
Advice requested for roof damage - hot potato between four insurance companies Posted: 09 Aug 2020 01:48 PM PDT Chicago, IL. Somewhat complex issue - would so appreciate anyone's generous insights and advice. - Before we moved in, our condo hired a general contractor to build a dormer and rooftop deck. - We live in top floor of 3 unit condo, bought in April. We've had roof leaks in our master bedroom due to poor construction of dormer and rooftop deck--for example, there is a gaping hole on the side of dormer. Thankfully not much damage in our unit other than staining on ceiling. But there is likely some mold up in there. - Involved insurance companies: our homeowners insurance, which covers our unit, the condo's insurance which covers common areas including the roof, the general contractors' insurance and subcontractors' insurance. - Subcontractors for siding and roofing were fired by the general contractor (hired for dormer and rooftop deck) sometime during the project. General Contractor was notified immediately of leak in May (!) and since then he's tarped the affected area. however, we are still noticing small leaks. Meanwhile, he submitted a claim with the subcontractors' insurance company. We are still waiting to see what will be covered (if at all). Subcontractors' insurance has sent their own guy to do a report. Our association is nervous about moving forward until we can see what's covered. Meanwhile, I'm nervous waiting any longer - although the leaks are small, they might continue to cause further damage. The roofing and dormer siding will need to be redone to some degree - is it best to wait until the subcontractors insurance makes a decision? Do we pursue anything with the general contractors' insurance? and lastly, what do we do about our homeowners insurance? Thanks so much! [link] [comments] |
NC auto insurance company failed to notify about lapse in coverage? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 01:24 PM PDT Good afternoon, I am looking for some guidance and advise on how to handle an auto insurance issue. Here is what happened, July 1 2020 lost debit card and got a new one July 12 auto-payment for auto insurance premium is declined because debit card information wasn't updated [I missed this email notification from State Farm because it looked like my auto-payment confirmations] Aug 5 receive an email from insurance agent's office worker (sorry not sure what this is called, but it wasn't the agent) Aug 5 reply to email "Are you trying to call the old phone number, changed number in 2018?" Aug 7 I call their office, speak with the office worker:
Some additional notes, - It is a 6 month policy and the monthly premium payment is technically a "payment plan." I have notice from them July 1 stating "premium paid in full," then it gets billed as a payment plan. I can admit where I'm wrong here. But it is abhorrent that they did not notify me that my coverage had lapsed. I was driving on those days and could have gotten into an accident. Was this appropriate conduct of business on their part? [link] [comments] |
(Ontario, Canada) How badly will this accident affect my sisters insurance? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 08:20 AM PDT So long story short, my little sister was impatient and couldnt wait for when my Mom was available to go out driving, and eventually convinced our mom to let her boyfriend (sister's boyfriend) take her out to drive (He is a G driver but only for a year, she had her G1). Yesterday, she wasn't paying attention and turned right on a red and hit someone elses car, did some pretty bad damage to their rear end and dinged out the front of our mom's car. Basically, she was illegally driving with her G1 without a qualified driver at her side, and got into an accident. I've heard a lot of differing ways on how this could end up, but they all boil down to she will lose her license for years/her insurance will be too high to pay. How close to the truth is this? [link] [comments] |
Just insured my first vehicle ever, now they want a full payment for the year TODAY Posted: 09 Aug 2020 11:33 AM PDT Edit: I'm from Montreal QC, Canada with Intact insurance So I was setting this all up the other day to insure my motorcycle. The start date of the insurance is today (since I'm getting the bike registered tomorrow) and the first payment is due today. I was told I can pay in 4 instalments seeing as how it's a rather large sum. I went onto my client center just earlier to pay and it's telling me I must pay the full balance. There was an option to call a certain number and change the payment plan, but seeing as it's Sunday all the call Centers are closed so I'm not able to do that. I'm guessing my best bet is to just wait and call tomorrow but I'm worried that will look bad on my credit or with the insurance company since it would technically be a late payment. Any advice on what course of action I should take? [link] [comments] |
Global Personal Health Insurance Posted: 09 Aug 2020 11:26 AM PDT In this day and age it seems quite anachronistic for health insurance to have to continue to be tied to an employer and a specific country. For health insurance professionals with the expertise, what would it take to create a globally covered group style health insurance product that would cover pre-existing conditions and require no individual underwriting? This would be similar to employer coverage where there are enough members to cover the risk of there being high claims. This seems like a huge opportunity for those folks that want to be globally mobile but don't want to run the risk of having a health insurance gap due to a pre-existing condition. How many people would need to be in such a group for it to be commercially viable and at what monthly cost? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2020 10:34 AM PDT Has anyone written the RIBO (Canada, Ontario) exam online? curious as to how they distribute the policy booklets and the overall experience. Any tips or suggestions appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Aug 2020 09:47 AM PDT The dryer in my apartment has been broken for two weeks and counting. Apparently covid is delaying a part coming in but I think they're just dragging their feet. When I asked my landlord if I can get some sort of discount on my next month's rent, I was told that I need to contact my renter's insurance. Is that something that they'd cover? I can't call today because it's Sunday but that doesn't seem right? [link] [comments] |
Discount applied but monthly payment went up? Posted: 09 Aug 2020 06:31 AM PDT I am a 23-year-old male. I graduated from college in December and went straight into working. I naturally wanted to get off of my parents auto insurance and onto my own. After shopping around, I elected to go with Progressive as they had the lowest price. I also elected to use the Snapshot device. When I finished my time with the device, I was told that I got a $30 discount based on my driving habits. While I was using the device I was paying about $103 per month. I just got my first bill where the discount is supposed to be applied, and I am now supposed to be paying $114 per month. Before I start calling their billing department asking how my monthly rate went up AFTER getting a discount, does anyone have any idea what it could be? [link] [comments] |
