How did Twitter and Reddit become so popular when its "content creating" users don't get paid for their content?

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 11:35 PM PDT

So I've just been trying to find out as to why wanting to create Youtube content is so popular, and one of the main reasons as to why people create video content for Youtube is so that they can get paid. But that doesn't really work in the context of Reddit or Twitter, as I don't think Reddit or Twitter "bloggers" get paid for their posts.

So how / why did Twitter and Reddit amass such a huge following - especially when there's no money involved?

If you were challenged to make $20 profit every day for 365 days. How would you do it?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 03:39 AM PDT

If someone challenged you to make at least $20 a day in profit every single day for one year. How would you do it? Would you accept the challenge at all?

What if the challenge had rules:

    • No traditional Full time/Part Time/Casual jobs
    • No asking your friends and family
    • You have only $5 to start with
    • You can spend your previous profits to make more profits. But the total at the end of the year must equal at least $7,300

    How would you do it?

What can I buy for someone to help them make a living for themselves.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 09:00 AM PDT

I know a lady who has 3 children, the father was killed in the war. She and her children fled the war and went to Morocco where I met her. She went to Morocco in the hopes of going to Europe to seek refugee status. But she is now stuck there.
She had a job as a waitress but when coronavirus hit, she lost her job.
I helped her with $100 which is around 700 Moroccan Dirhams (food for a month).
I don't want to just help her with money, can you think of something I can do to help be self-sufficient. She also live with her teenage sister.

    Update

She said she is good at making Congolese Cuisine. I don't have any experience in helping someone start a cooked food business. Any ideas or advice is appreciated.

How to take advantage of/build a business around the idea that rent & housing prices will drop considerably in major metro areas?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 11:40 AM PDT

    My theory is simple:

    1. Coronavirus will lead to many employers allowing their employees to be full time remote.

    2. People begin to leave major metropolitan areas in favor of lower cost of living locations as they are no longer tied to a certain location because of work.

    3. Housing demand drops in major metropolitan areas because of the number of people leaving (NYC, San Francisco, Chicago, DC, etc.)

Ever since quarantine started, I thought that this would happen and recently had a little confirmation: https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/01/san-francisco-one-bedroom-rent-price-drops-11point8percent-in-june-zumper.html

So my question is, how can one take advantage of this?

    Selling a fully virtual business

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 01:25 PM PDT

I currently run a business that provides virtual professional and administrative services to other businesses. We currently do about $15-$20,000.00 per month in revenue. The business currently has 14 employees (all part time except for 1 employee).

I was recently diagnosed with a long term illness and want to focus on my health. I would like to know how I can sell this business. I am not interested in selling for a profit but merely for the debt that was incurred in the business which is roughly $140,000.00.

The model of the business could be made more lean (reducing staff, cutting revolving expenses like ad spend). The business has a great reputation in the industry it is in. We have over 15 great reviews online and constantly have new leads coming in every day organically.

Any idea how to facilitate this type of business sale or find a buyer?

Cold-Called some businesses today to get feedback for my product.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 06:44 PM PDT

I decided that I wanted to do some cold-calling to get some feedback for my project. I chose to call businesses as you don't need a telemarketing license to call them.

After about three calls, I remembered my b2b calling days. It is tough getting to a decision maker.

I tried several attempts, got some email addresses, and some call back on friday's.

However, I did get some insight to how these businesses are operated post-covid opening. I see how they are addressing certain things and where my product fits in. It was a learning experience and I plan on using it to cater to my potential clients needs.

Are you supposed to disclose specific paints, glues, etc that you use on a product? Technically you’re using a companies patented formula.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 08:53 AM PDT

I had this thought today and it never occurred to me.

I don't believe anyone does, but I wonder what the law is from a technical stand point.

When do multi business owners pull the plug on a business? When should we?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 02:10 PM PDT

People with multi businesses look at businesses, stocks, and real estate as investments. Giving it a small percentage of investment, and a few years to see if its a good business. From there they'll make a decision to quit/sell.

How much money and time should we be spending <$5,000 to $20,000 and other people's money (banks/investor's money), and give it 2 - 5 years? What's the strategy here to invest the right amount, and opportunity cost (time)?

I suck at everything, but I can't resist the feeling that I want to start a business.

    Posted: 01 Jul 2020 05:39 PM PDT

I know this post will probably get downvoted, as it's a total NOOB question, and it's pretty vague, but I don't know where to begin.

I'm starting to accept the fact I absolutely suck at pretty much everything, except for creating systems, and organizing processes to execute tasks efficiently.

I have depression (seeing a professional for that), so my energy levels are horrendous. It's really difficult to sit down for long hours and work while remaining focused on a task. I also have incredible social anxiety, so it feels damn near impossible to meet with people without freaking out and having a nervous breakdown.

Is it possible to just completely outsource a business, as long as I find some sort of problem to solve and know what kind of tasks I need to delegate? Of course, I need capital for all that.

Maybe I have to accept I'm not cut out for this stuff, but I have NO idea who I will be if I drop this aspiration from my life. I've spent so much of my free time reading books about business, etc.

I just don't know what to do if I don't have any magnificent skills of any sort, but the notion of running a business fascinates me, despite how much work it would take.

I don't know what else to say. This is just a rant I guess.

    Affiliate marketing

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 01:41 PM PDT

    Hi,

I recently launched my startup in the men's grooming business. I'm looking for affiliates to promote my products. Manually looking through Youtube and Instagram for small influencers is taking up quite a hefty amount of time. Is there a way to automate or at least speed up the process, that I'm not aware of?

Looking to get some general tips that will help me find influencers quicker.

How should I monetize my website?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:57 PM PDT

I want to start a website with a blog, and YouTube videos. I only just started a YT channel and only have 4 subs. My website is writing about something I am super passionate about, and the only products I'd advertise would be products I've used. I'm not trying to force people into buying stuff, but I would love to do this full time.

So my questions being, how many platforms should I go through for products? YouTube being one, maybe Amazon, and maybe a company I'd affiliate through based off my interest. Is there a max amount of affiliates I should use?

Also what would the most effective way to get those products advertised without being pushy? I am passionate about my content and don't want it look like it's just for buck.

    Thank you!

    Microsoft's 365 or Google's G Suite?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:40 PM PDT

    About my requirements:

    1. I need a custom @ yourcompany mail server
    2. It's a 1 man smallish project.
    3. I've not much interest in Desktop apps like Word, Excel, Outlook etc. That's why I'm interested in "365 Business Basic" or G Suite.
    4. Maybe I'm adding some temporarily team members, they get permission to certain part of the Shared Drive, to edit and upload files. They may have to use free account if possible?
    5. I may want to add multiple @ yourcompany2 @ yourcompany3 in future
    6. Spam filter would be really helpful...
    7. Low on budget

So in short, I will be mostly using the online: Mail, Forms, Drive, Docs.

I'm not sure if I should go for 365 or GSuite. Microsoft Forms looks really beautiful and the 1TB from 365 just makes the 30GB of G Suite look sad. But I've read that G Suite has much better spam-filter and imo Google has also better mobile apps (Calendar, Docs).

On the other hand, it looks like Microsoft is constantly improving their service, while Google just slacking around? (Checking their Youtube accounts/blogs).

    Facebook monetization appeal

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:17 PM PDT

Hello, i was wondering if there is anybody here that expirienced the same situation as mine. I have facebook page with 710k people, and i would like to monetize it wirh facebook video ads. In January 2020 i received 2 copyrighted content violation. 8 days ago i appealed the copyright strikes in order to get my monetization ability back and i still havent heard from fb. when i try to see in my facebook Page Quality It says "in review" still.

    My questions are;

    1. do you know how long it takes for facebook to review my page and make desicion?

    2. in case they decide not to allow me to monetize my website and delete those two violations, do you know if after certain amount of time, the violations disappear from my page automatically?

    Please give me your opinion.

    thank you in advance.

    Advertising, Side Hustles, & Advice

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 12:10 PM PDT

Hello! I 17M have just recently started working on a buisness. I am working with one other person who is very very close to me. We currently have about 3 or 4 products we are in the final stages of tweaking, and I plan to have them up on etsy within a week or two.

I am also going to buy art from some really talented locals I know and resell it. I plan to have way more products on etsy and hopefully my future site but this is the base we want to start with.

My question is, what are some effective and relatively cheap advertising methods I can utilize? My partner knows a bit about facebook ads, she's going to look into shopify, and I've looked into some gigs on an app called fiverr. Other than that I have no idea how to get peoples attention.

My other question being, what are some semi profitable side hustles for someone my age? I'm close to 18 and I wanted to do doordash/fleet, uber, and an app called line scooter when I'm legally able to. I was working at Burger King but I'm looking for a coffee place to get drink experience, as I want to open a drink stand in the future, and to get better pay. Any ideas as to how I can get some exxtra money to fund my startup(s) would be appreciated.

Also if you have any advice or any ideas please feel free to share with me. And thank you for taking the time to read :)

How do I ship a frozen food package?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 11:53 AM PDT

    Hi friends,

I'm trying to start a frozen pancake brand with a secret recipe that I've been working on for years and now that I'm ready to start selling from home.. I'm confused about how to package the pancakes to be shipped nationwide.. while still remaining frozen and not turning gross. Are there companies who create frozen pancake packaging that will keep my product in not-disgusting condition when it arrives to customers? I am considering opting for selling a dry mix instead.. but the convenience of the ready made is unbeatable. Thanks guys <3

Featured on Product Hunt // 314+ visitors // my experience

    Posted: 02 Jul 2020 10:30 AM PDT

    Hey Entrepreneur gang,

I wanted to help the soft launch of a new business I was working on and have always seen good success on communities like ProductHunt. It mostly focuses on software / SaaS startups, so launching a physical goods business on here was a bit of a gamble.

However, the site is free for submissions and you really have nothing to lose. The site works on a voting system similar to Reddit where the best content is driven up to more viewership by the community.

Keys to Success (in my eyes)

I wanted my post on ProductHunt to feel real and genuine.

    • catchy, polished looking slider images to draw attention in on my product (super important)
    • having a unique product and selling point
    • approach the community with an open, collaborative tone. Everyone on here is some sort of a maker / entrepreneur so it's obviously a great place to make relationships and grow organically.
    • have a site / product that is still in early stages

    Results of Post

    • 314 referred visitors (Google Analytics) over 12 days
    • 10 Instagram followers
    • 275 Upvotes on ProductHunt
    • 1 sale
    • Interview opportunity for another maker site

Another great outcome from the feature is that I can feature it on my site as social proof (think "Featured On" sections).

I highly recommend submitting your product / site if you think it would be a good fit for ProductHunt. This is not an ad for the site as they are already quite popular and many of you have probably already heard of them. It's free and you can learn a lot from the community from their feedback.
