    EXPECTATIONS. Entrepreneur

    EXPECTATIONS. Entrepreneur

    EXPECTATIONS.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 02:07 AM PDT

Most people start out with completely unrealistic expectations of what level of what level of effort is required and how long it takes to get a business off the ground. They are easily discouraged and give up way to soon . I blame it on wishful thinking. The reality is that there is now way to know how long it will take or wether it will work out at all. Approach it with humility, grit and willingness to do whatever it takes to succeed even if that means you have to work really hard for a very long time.

Started a successful eCommerce business, but I'm too busy to continue.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:26 PM PDT

I started a online business a few years back as a side project. The first year I was actively involved and things picked up quickly with minimal social media marketing. After that first year, I became very busy with my career, returning to school, and a growing family. I put it on the back-burner for some time and did enough to keep it running, but neglected the marketing, growth, and the other elements needed to improve the business.

I now see that I really won't have time to return to it in the near future to give it the attention it needs. I'm sitting on a few thousand dollars in inventory, a decent following on social media, and a decent bit of brand recognition. It's highly automated (minus marketing), but continuing on the current path will result in the fixed costs slowly draining the company. I've posted a couple times on Flippa to sell, but it seems like people aren't looking for eCommerce businesses on there.

I'm looking for suggestions as to the best way to exit this situation.

I’m tired of reading about hard work and persistence

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:06 PM PDT

People don't fail because they give up too soon.

People fail because they don't rush to revenue like a bat out of hell. Make some profit.

Why would you spend 6 months building something before you make a sale?

Go out and make a sale and then build something.

Can't make the sale? Good. You just saved 6 months.

I am thinking of starting an ETHICAL credit repair online business

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:59 AM PDT

So right now, I work a full time government job while working on my finance degree. Last year, I had absolutely horrible credit. But now, I have great credit and it continues to climb. What motivated me to dive into this business is the flexibility (I am available around 4 hours every afternoon to work on it), and also I saw my mom get screwed over by a different credit repair business. She paid them $1,000 (a huge rip off in my opinion).

I am still learning the ins and outs of the business. There are just too many phony credit repair services that are very unethical. I plan on charging a very fair price, while making it worth my time, I could see it being a great side income.

    Anyone here in the industry?

How much are you paying your accountant?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 06:16 AM PDT

I own a car wash - and feel like I'm paying our accountant way too much a year. We pay $450 every quarter, and then $1,200 annually to file our business taxes. Then we get hit with like ~$100 consulting bills for adhoc discussions like the PPP loan. So we're looking at close to $4K a year.

Every quarter, they go through the Quickbooks, but I categories all of the expenses and income on the credit card and checking. I also do our own Quarterly sales tax.

What are you paying and what is your type of business?

Engineer with lots of ideas and capability to build them, but nobody to follow up with marketing. Anyone have advice for me?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:56 AM PDT

So, short intro, I can make websites, iOS apps, Android apps and do backend servers.

I also have several app ideas. All of which either have no direct competitor currently, or it has a unique selling point. They started out as a simple app just for me to use because none of the apps out there did what I wanted, so I went ahead and built it myself, then over time I polished some of them to make it more user friendly.

However I don't know. I just seem to enjoy the engineering challenge of building it. I'm on my 5th app right now and it's relatively well polished. I've invested well over 100 hours into building and polishing each project. Yet, once I finish building it I just seem to get bored and move on to my next fun project.

So I now have a bunch of apps that I really enjoy using, and I'm sure there must also be some people out there who would also love to use it. However I just don't have the will to market it, which really feels like a waste because I'm building all these stuff and basically just tossing it away.

Honestly I'm totally fine with paying someone or just finding a marketing partner and split all profits 50/50. I'll handle all the technical work while they handle all the marketing. I frankly have nothing to lose at this point anyway since the software is just rotting around.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

Do you own or know of people that run multiple businesses?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:39 PM PDT

Is the idea of business to start up with a little bit of cash and then reinvest profits, and find an investors to help scale it. Do this for 1-2 more businesses that are less intensive(car wash). Being profitable enough to hire people to manage the business. Then sell off the ones that are profitable, and cut losses on the ones that are not.

Is this the mentality of people that look at businesses like investments? What are your thoughts on owning multiple businesses, passive businesses (not putting all eggs in one basket)? Any books you recommend?

Looking for sales/marketing Co-Founder for hardware startup, details inside!

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:30 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I'm currently looking for a managing partner/CoFounder to help me bring a new hardware product to market. The product is a higher end hand sanitizer dispenser (please hold your groans until the end). Quick backstory, I have a small design/build and manufacturing company based in Dallas TX. One of my regular clients was having trouble sourcing high end hand sanitizer stations for their stores (luxury brand store). They referred me to a few models they were looking at but apparently are on back order for the remainder of the year minimum and don't quite service the unique needs they have mainly around 'fleet' management so I was contracted to provide a few dozen sanitizer stations for use in several of my client's retail locations. I believe the product is robust enough to stand on it's own and would like to use the revenue from my clients order to stand up a company around it.

    Overview of The Product:

    Main features are:

    • Have a few different variations for different markets (consumer, B2B, and municipalities)
    • Bulk and cartridge refill models based on the same platform
    • WiFi connectivity (connectivity handled via Azure IoT Hub) which allows for refill alerts, battery level monitoring etc.
    • Durable enough for indoor or outdoor use in the elements.
    • Has rechargeable battery for wireless use or can be plugged in
    • Counter-top or wall mountable

    Current Status:

    Hardware:

    • Currently the hardware is in version 1.0
    • Once my client signs off on the first prototype and that order is filled I will be doing some value engineering to get unit costs down for ongoing production and exploring a few design ideas for future models/product changes.
    • I've sourced and procured all the initial components required, will find bulk/long term suppliers once production model is decided on.
    • Since all manufacturing is done in house I can iterate through versions pretty quickly, this means if you have a certain market in mind we can quickly turn around proof of concept prototypes to pitch.
    • Current projected margin on hardware is 50% based on pricing of comparable products on the market and the cost to produce the first few prototypes. Again this will improve quickly with some basic VE and proper sourcing.

    Software:

    • Device firmware is written and sending telemetry data to Azure.
    • Have not built the customer UI yet (stack is .NET Core API with Angular, not set in stone yet).

    Business/General:

    • I have not setup any business entity for this project yet, still need a name, logo etc.
    • Have the outlines for a few different recurring revenue models beyond the hardware sales (refills, monitoring and more) but I'm hoping to find someone with some knowledge in this area to decide together with.
    • Ready to deploy a simple Shopify store once name/logo/branding is decided on and domain name purchased.
    • My client is open to the idea of carrying them in a few national stores to test sales after reviewing final product.

    Who I'm looking for:

I have the capabilities to handle everything product side, this means hardware development for different markets, manufacturing (in house), packaging and shipping, as well as the UI app and tech management (although any proficiency in these areas would be appreciated).

What I am looking for is a managing partner to handle branding/marketing, sales, overall company strategy, and day to day operations. I imagine the first undertaking would be to settle on a name, beyond that I will follow your lead and provide you with all the support you need from the product side.

I'm not much for arbitrary lists of requirements like 'go getter!' and 'product rockstar' so I will just say that I will consider anyone who is interested, ideally that person would have a background or experience in sales (physical or ecommerce) and bringing new products to market. Would be cool if you are located in Dallas/Austin (or within 250 miles) but not a requirement, however you must be US based just for ease of communications and potential visits etc.

    Ideas on Partnership Structuring/Compensation:

Completely open to any suggestions, this isn't my strong area. General thoughts:

Equity Split - me: 51% you: 49% 6 month cliff with a 1 year vesting period (applies to both of us)

I am extremely negotiable on profit sharing depending on how 'hands off' I can be on the sales/business side of things and willing to go as far as 70% you - 30% me if all I have to do is build and ship product while maintaining UI and website.

    Conclusion:

Let me know if you are interested via DM or leave a comment below and we can get in touch via email, phone, Skype or whatever works for you. I haven't posted any product photos or anything because I don't want this to come across as a self promotion, I will provide anyone interested with additional details, information, product drawings etc. Happy to answer any questions or if anyone has suggestions on better places to post, structuring, or anything drop a comment below!

    Franchise Experience

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:04 AM PDT

Has anyone here have had an experience with franchising on an established company? (e.g. mcdonalds, subway, 7-11, etc.,)

I've always wondered what the range of profitability is and if it's even worth the shot. I understand that profitability has a lot to do with location, owner management, etc. However, from your own experience how was it? Is it possible to hold a job while owning one? If you were married, did both of you have to take the leap or one had to work while establishing the business?

I've thought about potentially franchising to a company in the future (not sure which one yet). Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I understand some franchise are capital intensive. I don't have much capital yet but i'd like to say that it's ok for now and im sure i can get to the needed capital in the future. ($330k NW, age 29).

trying to start a new business selling pc parts or full build pc

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:27 AM PDT

Hi, i would like to start a business due to being unemployed for months due to covid. My plan is by selling pc parts and full built pc online. My so-called partner bailed on the plan after talking and planning it for months. He is already in the business before this so he knows some of the distributions but he isn't willing to introduce me to the distributors for whatever reasons. (Conflict of interest maybe)

And after submitting over 100 resumes online with just 3 return calls, I sort of gave up.

So i decided to do it alone and have just registered my own business with the government. I've found some distributors online But as a small start up, I don't have a lot of capitals to stock up in parts. My question is, what would be the best way to approach them?

Any advice or suggestions is really appreciated.

    Thank you for your time.

When Developing a Website Which Matter More. Ease ofUse And Clean Simple Look Or Originality?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:28 AM PDT

I have an idea for a website but I the website category is highly competitive but I truly believe my Idea is a lot more intuitive, simple, clean, and easy to use. Like the title says it's definitely not an original idea and I have no experience in website design. If it is truly easier to look at and use and I have a solid marketing plan do you think its possible to compete in this space?

    Mark Cuban on Mentorship.

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:12 PM PDT

Mark Cuban has openly expressed that he's never had a personal mentor and believes that many entrepreneurs look to mentors as an easy shortcut to success.

I've always kind of agreed with this viewpoint. I think it would be much more beneficial to have the "ready, fire, aim" kind of mindset, as Cuban puts it.

What do you all think about this viewpoint?

I would like to ask if anyone has any experience with this type of thing? I wanted to start my own clothing brand and the domain and everything is available, however just going through fb I realized there is a small metal band with the same name I wanted to make my own clothing brand. Could that cause any issues with my project?

    Thanks for any help :)

Serious answers please - My choices

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:44 AM PDT

Hi all, I'm 18 and I have been working on my own engineering business for about a year now and I don't have a lot of cash flow, I have a product I'm currently in the making of but don't have any options to further pursue this as Coronavirus has ruined my chance at getting an apprenticeship. So therefore I have two choices, join the Royal Navy on an accelerated apprenticeship weapons engineering at 33k a year and I could save about 60-70k by the end of my 4 years in or stay at home (although my parents want me out) and try and build this product. I really cannot choose as it will be the waiting to build that will annoy me but on the other side I have no money so I'm rather at a standstill and don't know where to go 🤷🏻‍♂️ I don't want to seem I'm not following my dreams because I'm a business guy at heart and I love and cherish my business but on the other hand I have reality 😂, any advice is greatly appreciated ♠️

    Thank you!

    Best Answering Solution

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:34 AM PDT

I've searched the topic but still not clear on the best solution for my situation.

I'm looking for a service to provide a local number, forward it to another phone number (making it clear that this is a forwarded call), and bounce back to VM if no answer. I'd then like the VM to go straight to email.

From what I've seen the cheapest service who do something like this is VoIP.ms but I'm hoping to hear other suggestions/experience from people who have had the same requirements described above.

    Unscripted - M.J Demarco

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:14 AM PDT

A lot of Entrepreneurs have read this book called "Unscripted" by M.J Demarco and it's a book that really showcases the rat race that exist. It goes through the "script" of life that majority of people have heard all there life — "Go to school, get good grades, find a good job, buy a house, have kids and work until retirement while you pay off your house" it made no sense to me how people could waste there lives working a 9-5 when they can simply learn the rules of making money and actually start living without financial worries. It's not easy but it sure is worth it and we're all MORE than capable of success.

I read that book a few months back and here I am now ready to take on Entrepreneurship. I spend a lot of time and effort to develop the mindset and even made a bold move of leaving work for the time being to start my endeavours.

The path that I'm dedicating my life to is Life Coaching, specialized in mindset. I not only want to do B2C but also B2B because of the useful value I have. In terms of getting started as a life coach, does anyone have any advice for me?

What's that very first step I should take?

    Thoughts on Forex?

    Posted: 05 Jul 2020 07:36 AM PDT

Lately I've been moving out of the rat race. I'm leaving typical 9-5 life alone. I've always wanted to start my business ventures but I've lacked capital. So of course I started learning to trade currencies in the Foreign Exchange Market.

Now my question is why does Forex specifically the iMarketlive community receive so much backlash surrounding this industry? Do people not aim to make a stable income from their phone simply by learning a skill?
