Warren Buffett’s Berkshire buys Dominion Energy natural gas assets in $10 billion deal Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:41 PM PDT First big move since COVID for the Oracle of Omaha. He is finally digging in his 137 billion wallet. This suggest that the game of waiting might be paying off in the long run. Better opportunity will unequivocally come at the right time. Also good news for overall market conditions. It suggests that retesting march low's is off the table. David day trader global GLOBAL think he's washed up. Its a bold move to go against the pinstripe suits. [link] [comments] |
Investing success story of someone with modest salary Posted: 05 Jul 2020 08:15 AM PDT Great thread about a dude in his 30s with modest 75k salary whose portfolio grew by 550 percent to around 1 million dollars (with some good luck and risk taking ) by investing in s and p 500 stocks over the past decade bull run. Picked some winners and losers but overall portfolio grew nicely . The margin leverage used initially was a little risky but it paid off . Gives me inspiration to stick to my growth investing plan to achieve my long term goals . Have a read and contribute if you wish . https://www.reddit.com/r/PersonalFinanceCanada/comments/hlbxai/my_story_75k_salary_age_33_900000/ [link] [comments] |
Deals Berkshire Hathaway Buys Dominion Gas Assets in $9.7 Billion Deal Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:47 PM PDT Berkshire Hathaway has agreed to buy Dominion Energy's natural gas transmission and storage business in a deal with an enterprise value of $9.7 billion. According to a statement, the assets include more than 7,700 miles of natural gas transmission lines with about 20.8 billion cubic feet per day of transportation capacity. Dominion will use $3 billion of the proceeds to buy back shares. Warren Buffett's conglomerate will also acquire 25% of Cove Point LNG, a natural gas company in Maryland that Dominion will continue to own half of. Thoughts on Berkshire making a move ? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:11 AM PDT I posted a question on the daily but no one responded. I feel like this might be a more advanced question but if anyone can shed some light on this it would be really appreciated. I don't own any stocks and have been doing a lot of reading about leveraged ETFs. Many seem to be very....pessimistic about these types of investments, preaching things to the likes of "extremely high risk" and "high expenses" and "decaying over time." I look at SQQQ and can clearly observe this trend and why it would be dangerous to buy this asset at the wrong time and possibly get stuck holding it forever. However, I look at TQQQ and notice that one could have literally bought in at $2 and followed the unstoppable bull run without observing any "decay" that would be characteristic of leveraged positions (or so I thought...?). Can anyone explain, fundamentally, what is going on with funds like TQQQ, SQQQ, and UVXY? Why do UVXY and SQQQ decay so much and clearly present a high risk, yet something like TQQQ just seems like free money (unless you buy at a top and then the drop is 3x magnified, which makes sense). A rant from an “Old Fashion” Investor Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:26 PM PDT I'm not one to rant, but there is something that's been concerning and quite frankly alarming to me. I see many on Reddit, StockTwits, and other places online equating how busy a business is to how the stock will do. I've seen this a lot recently with stocks in the restaurant, casino, hotel, and overall travel niches. Hotels and Restaurants may be packed some places around the country but it doesn't mean the business can pay its bills or won't go bankrupt. Just because a restaurant or casino is busy does not mean that the overall business is healthy or doing well. They my be crowded but that means absolutely nothing if the company can't make money. Just because an airline is full or a casino looks busy does not mean that the business has recovered or can recover financially. A company can have a great brand or reputation and still be in terrible shape financially. Sometimes I feel so old fashioned. I don't fall for the hype (which there is a lot of lately). I don't care about the brand name. I pour over balance sheets of every company and spend hours researching before making a trade. What makes me sad is I see so many people piling into stocks of companies in hopes of a recovery where if you actually spent just a few minutes looking at their balance sheets you'd see that they were on extremely shaky ground financially BEFORE the pandemic. For example, some of the Casino and Restaurants stocks that have risen 10X from March are in so much debt, have zero working capital, and have bonds and loans they are going to default on [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:25 PM PDT Hello guys! I am brazilian and I have been investing in USA since this past february and I am very excited about the huge amount of good companies available. What website you recommend me for studying the fundamentals of stocks and REITs ? I alternate between Yahoo Finance and Morningstar but I"d like to know if there is a good place for studying and help building a solid portfolio. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Boeing Exec Resignation Effect Posted: 05 Jul 2020 10:01 AM PDT What effect, if any, do you see this having in the coming week? On the one hand, this has absolutely nothing to do with operations and corporate decision-makimg. On the other hand, sometimes bad press really is bad press. [link] [comments] |
Best website for stock information? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:58 AM PDT What is the best and most reliable website for stock suggestions, alerts, and all else related? Of course, this wouldn't be the only tool used but I just want some suggestions. A few I have in mind is seeking alpha and zacks. [link] [comments] |
Is this a violation of good faith in stock trading?? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:12 AM PDT Let's say I have $1000 cash on my account. I use all $1000 to buy stock XYZ in the morning and then sell all of them for $1000 after 2 hours. According to what people wrote on my other posts, it is a violation because the stock I bought is not actually mine UNTIL it settles..... but I wanna hear second opinions.. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 12:05 PM PDT I keep being recommended TDA and I noticed in the apple App Store that there is the thinkorswim app and the TDA mobile app. Can you use either of these apps by logging in with the same TDA account or are these separate products with separate brokerage accounts. Thank you [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:45 AM PDT Right now my portfolio is pretty evenly spread out between VTI, VOO, and MSFT. What are some ETFs that are still safe but will likely get me better returns (long term or short term). [link] [comments] |
Deciding how much to put in each stock Posted: 05 Jul 2020 11:10 AM PDT I have decided to buy shares in 3 companies: Sea Limited (SE), Cloudflare (Net) and Fastly (FSLY). I have about $2000 to spend. My idea is to spend $800 on SE, $700 on NET and $500 on Fastly. I will probably buy a part of it soon and the rest after a while. Why I want to spend the money in this order is because I believe that Sea has the most value, then Cloudflare, then Fastly. Do you think this strategy is good? [link] [comments] |
NKLA likely to get hammered Monday morning Posted: 05 Jul 2020 02:01 PM PDT NKLA likely to get hammered Monday morning after disclosing Thursday night only 3K Badger pre-orders in first 2 days, vs 146K TSLA Cybertruck pre-orders in its first 2 days. Investors won't buy Trevor Milton silly math to just simply extrapolate 1,500 orders/day into future. Trevor also acknowledged on Twitter first generation Badger won't have autonomy ("will add later") making it obsolete when it finally arrives in 2022, AFTER fully autonomous Rivian (late 2020) and Cybertruck (late 2021). S-1 ticking time bomb about to go live next week pending SEC approval where 23.9M warrants exercisable @ $11.50. Huge arbitrage oppty to purchase NKLAW warrant at $32, exercise @ $11.50, and deliver against shorted NKLA shares at $57, less 8% weekly borrow. [link] [comments] |
Lumentum (LITE) and Dynatrace (DT) Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:59 PM PDT Been doing some research on potential investment opportunities and these 2 companies caught my attention. Thinking about adding both of them to my portfolio. Your thoughts 🤔 [link] [comments] |
Market makers covet retail trades because they’re relatively harmless... Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:56 PM PDT Retail trades are, for the most part, neither smart nor large. Because they're less likely to send shockwaves through the market, HFTs can, the thinking goes, offer them better prices. Virtu CEO Douglas Cifu said in an earnings call that the company provided more than $300 million of "price improvement" to retail traders during the first four months of 2020. Is it dumb to be bullish on Shell, Chevron, Exxon because of their real estate? Posted: 04 Jul 2020 10:31 PM PDT I don't believe in oil anymore. But I've been a holder of Shell, Chevron, and Exxon for a long time, and kept adding to my positions after their crashes. I'm mainly holding because I believe their real estate will continue to be valuable even when we are all using electric or hydro fuel cell. These companies have the best corners. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:14 PM PDT I know that this is far fetched, but since the masses have been kept at home for months. I think there will be a sizable "Baby boom" in the next 8-12 months. What better way to take advantage of this from a financial perspective would be than to buy into the leading producer of infant formula? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:10 PM PDT I was wondering about this stock even before the Berkshire Hathaway news. It has a solid dividend and doesn't fluctuate much. So is $D a current buy? [link] [comments] |
World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) may continue its rally Posted: 05 Jul 2020 01:02 PM PDT World Wrestling Entertainment stock (NYSE:WWE) is currently making attempt to rally further upwards. Does anyone swing trade leveraged inverse ETF pairs? Posted: 05 Jul 2020 09:06 AM PDT I've been swing trading FNGU and FNGD (hold the big tech companies leveraged X3) for anyone that reads pattern/trend technical analysis, do you have success with these type of ETFs or do you do individual stocks?
