What does it mean when people say flood insurance policies are grandfathered in? Posted: 26 Jun 2020 08:12 PM PDT So recently looking at policies and I keep hearing people say that it's better to get policies that are "grandfathered" then new ones. What does that really mean and how's does that even work when transferring a policy from a previous owner? Located in Louisiana. Also what are things to check up on in a flood policy? (UK) Has anyone else’s car insurance shot up during Covid? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 04:49 AM PDT (UK) My car insurance is up for renewal and it's shot up from £635 to £1002. I was expecting the premium to go DOWN, since this will now be my first year NCD, turned 25 and shaken off the young driver premium, and lowered my annual mileage from 10000 to 5000. But it's just shot up instead, and comparison quotes are all starting at the £1000 mark. Is this a Covid thing with insurance companies trying to compensate for lower income while nobody has been buying cars? Anyone else in this boat too? [link] [comments] |
Is in network care 100% covered after I meet my out of pocket max? Posted: 26 Jun 2020 10:08 AM PDT Just as the title asks? If I need care, is it now 100% covered or am I missing something? Online it says I am in my "covered phase". [link] [comments] |
No car insurance after agent assured us it would start today Posted: 26 Jun 2020 09:16 PM PDT Hello, sorry if the formatting is weird but I'm writing this on mobile. So my partner and I decided to buy a house which we just closed on and during the process we also decided to change insurances to get a better rate. He bundled the auto and home insurance and we were told after we close on the house to let the agent know to start the insurance. Because of Covid, the office has different hours and closed so we are unable to reach the agent via phone. When we email the agent to start the insurance, after he assured us he would be able to after hours over the phone, we have yet to receive anything from the agent regarding the paper work for the auto insurance. We are unsure what to do because we believe he is technically now uninsured and we need to drive in order to move all of our stuff into the house. We live in Pennsylvania if that's any help. Any advice/words to make us calm down will be helpful! Thanks!! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:39 AM PDT Hey guys, I am dropping my car off to get repaired next week and I currently have Geico in Texas. I have $35/day rental reimbursement but when I'm checking rental car prices most of them are 45-65 dollars so I'll be paying out of pocket for damage that wasn't even my fault. I'm wondering if I can adjust the policy to $50/day before I pick a shop and drop it off to be repaired. [link] [comments] |
Add extra repairs from insurance payout? Posted: 27 Jun 2020 12:34 AM PDT My car was recently damaged, very minor paint work needed and redoing a section of the vinyl wrap. What I'm wondering is if I can ask the shop to charge the insurance company a little extra and re-wrap another portion of the car which I want recolored. The insurance company (Geico) had no idea how much the repairs would cost so they asked me to go get an estimate so what I'm thinking is asking a shop I have a good relationship with to say charge 4 hours of labor when in reality it only takes 2 and then do some additional work for me. Is that something that would fly or would that be suspicious? The adjuster has no idea what something like this costs so I have that on my side. Location: Texas [link] [comments] |
Vehicle declared total loss after hail damage. What happens next? [Canada] Posted: 26 Jun 2020 09:47 AM PDT The insurance company is offering half of what we paid. The vehicle isn't fully paid off. I didn't accept the offer because it felt way too low. In a total loss situation, do I have to forfeit the vehicle to the insurance company, or can I keep it and use the settlement check to just pay off the rest of the vehicle? To negotiate the price, the insurance person also told me to go on Google and find 2-3 sellers that are offering my vehicle at a higher price. He would then send this information to the appropriate channels at the insurance company and they would use it to maybe offer me more. At the end of the day, I just want to keep my vehicle (even if it's damaged) and used the insurance settlement to pay it off. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jun 2020 05:10 PM PDT I'm in Texas. We brought patient in today. And I sent the claim, but now that I'm home I'm OVERTHINKING if I even did it?? We are closed next week due to COVID getting worse here. Can anyone tell me if I had to send the claim after the enrollment end date, but they came on 6/26 will it still be covered ? I think I'm getting myself worked up about this because I'm sure I sent it lol. But any help is welcomed [link] [comments] |
Settlement lien put on health insurance or paying doctors directly? Which is more cost effective Posted: 26 Jun 2020 10:54 PM PDT I was t-boned in a car accident(California) going 40mph recently by a driver who ran a stop sign. Slammed the breaks and managed to swerve but still got smashed. I'm experiencing lingerining back/neck pain. I've been reccomended to physical therapy by my primary doctor and have since sought an attorney to maximize a potential settlement. The majority of attorney's want to place a lien with the doctors directly rather than placing the lien on my health insurance. Only two attorneys out 8 have said they prefer I use my health insurance(PPO) to cover the cost of treatment rather than paying the doctors directly. They said it's ultimately much cheaper and even easier to negotiate down the bills vs paying the doctors doctors. They also said many attorneys get huge kickbacks from doctors, that's why they push for it so hard which makes sense. Is it generally cheaper when you use your insurence to pay medical bills after a car accident or let the attorney put the doctors on a lean? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 26 Jun 2020 04:25 PM PDT I thought that in Florida, a vehicle was declared a total loss after it reaches 80% of the vehicles value. So how in the world did the body shop get the insurance to pay? I feel like assuming the insurance wanted to be nice isn't quite the right path. Can someone explain why the insurance paid for repairs instead of totaling the vehicle? Additionally, can someone tell me (God forbid) if after all this work was done on the vehicle, it got into another collision? Where does it sit on the value? Will the insurance finally throw in the towel? I'd love to learn this stuff! [link] [comments] |

Is Kaiser its own health insurance network? Posted: 26 Jun 2020 06:37 PM PDT I started a new job recently and currently have the option of enrolling in health insurance through my employer. I'm currently still on my mom's insurance (Kaiser), which her employer pays for 100% except for copays. I'm 23 right now so I have 3 more years until I get kicked off my mom's insurance. I'm highly considering enrolling in health insurance through my employer since they have a plan with Kaiser that is also paid 100% by them except for copays and having my own health insurance will help me become more independent. The only thing I'm hesitating about is the issue of potentially having to find new doctors. Is Kaiser its own health insurance network? If I get my own plan through my employer and its Kaiser, will I be able to keep my current doctors? Edit: I'm in California. Edit 2: All of my current doctors are Kaiser employees. Pretty bad car accident, other driver and I both have GEICO - how worried should I be? Posted: 26 Jun 2020 06:34 PM PDT I was in a pretty bad car accident back on May 11th. Car was totaled, spent nearly two weeks in the hospital, and am still feeling some effects of the accident as far as aches and pains. It took awhile, but I was finally able to get the "face sheet" and at this point learned the other driver's name. Lo and behold, he also has GEICO. To date, they have not been able to get the full police report, though they just put in the request a little less than two weeks ago. However, a jarring thought came to mind - if we both have GEICO and both adjusters are claiming no fault, can I reasonably expect them to come to a fair resolution? I have not hired or even talked to a lawyer, I'm not coming into this thinking I'm owed some insane settlement - but given how long it's been, I'm starting to get very nervous. I have already been given the settlement for the car being totaled, but I still have medical bills coming in six weeks later, not to mention out of pocket payments for prescriptions, lab work (I suffered some kidney damage, doc wanted to make sure it was ok), etc. This is my first actual accident - any suggestions on what should come next? Edit - Sorry, my location is Los Angeles metro area, California, USA. [link] [comments] |
Question regarding different auto insurance companies Posted: 26 Jun 2020 06:08 PM PDT I'm currently based in Los Angeles (Koreatown), California. I'm a full-time student (19 years old) with GEICO auto insurance labeled in the quote as an additional driver. I was planning on becoming an insured driver as I have to take my vehicle to San Diego, but I realized the cost would rise tremendously -- as I haven't driven for longer than 18 months and I am still a teen. The monthly cost of insurance rose from the $200s to the $400s with this change. I am confused with my options -- will I find more affordable auto insurance quotes in other places? I recognize the huge spike in the cost to be obvious due to my inexperience as a driver, but I was wondering if there were means by which the cost can lessen a little. [link] [comments] |

Can I see any in-network Specialist with a referral? First time on HMO. Posted: 26 Jun 2020 12:12 PM PDT My minimal health care experience is usually based around a PPO, but this year I have an HMO. I saw my PCP for a referral, and she indicated it may be a time-sensitive issue and wrote me a referral within their medical group. The receptionist in the specialist's office said they couldn't get me in for a month, but agreed that I should be seen sooner than that. So my question is: do I have to use the specialist that was on the referral? Or can I call around to other specialists in my network? The referral on their web-portal reads: AMB REFERRAL TO Ophthalmology Referral ordered by XXXXXXXXX, MD on 6/25/2020 However, on my release paperwork from my PCP it specifies an office to call. Posted: 26 Jun 2020 03:54 PM PDT Passenger in an accident - insurance confusion Hello. I am from the United States. A few months back I was a backseat passenger in a car accident when my friend hit a stump on the side of the road in another state. My thumb wasn't very obviously broken, but I went to the hospital Later at night and got fixed up and wore a small cast for a short time. At the hospital I mentioned many times the circumstance of the accident, and when collecting my information, they never asked for the drivers insurance. Being a dumb kid I just assumed theyd use mine and be done. So our trip ended fairly prematurely and I haven't seen my friend in months. After paying my medical bills, which weren't super cheap but also not insane, I received a subrogation letter in the mail from my insurance asking the circumstance of the injury. This is now months later Obviously I want to answer truthfully about this incident, but my friend also has had his case closed for the accident. What are the legal ramifications of me speaking to the subrogation team and having them seek out my friends car insurance? Will I recoup the money that I paid for my deductibles if my insurance pursues his? Thanks for any advice. I am totally unfamiliar with the subrogation process [link] [comments] |
Dented Trunk Lid - Car Insurance Question Posted: 26 Jun 2020 12:08 PM PDT Hello, In a moment of poor depth perception, I recently backed my car into a low concrete overhang in a parking garage and dented the back of my trunk lid. There was no property damage to the overhang or garage. No other cars were damaged. No injury to any people. I have comprehensive coverage. Is this something that would be covered by my insurance? Appreciate any insight! Edit: This was in Texas. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jun 2020 02:48 PM PDT As the title says, I'm 17, going to be getting a licence when I'm 18, and the average insurance for a maza mx5 (car used as an example) starts at £4000 WITH a black box. I used confused.com and comparethemarket.com, and I can nit believe that the insurance is more than double of what this car is worth... [link] [comments] |
Got in a minor accident this morning, am I out of luck?[CA] Posted: 26 Jun 2020 08:45 AM PDT I have a 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer as a project car, and this morning a women backed out of her driveway with out looking and I hit her back quarter panel going about 10 miles an hour at the time of impact. The accident damaged my driver side front fender, headlight, grill and bumper. I have a lot of work done to the car such as upgraded engine, suspension, fuel injection, redone interior, pretty much everything other than paint. I do not have classic car insurance, but comparable cars are worth 15-20k. I'm worried that I'm going to get shafted by her insurance company due when it comes to ACV since it's a older vehicle with over 150k miles. How does this work and what recourse could I have, I just want the car fixed, it's about 1500 in parts and labor to fix. [link] [comments] |
