Shale pioneer Chesapeake Energy files for bankruptcy

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 02:25 PM PDT

Chesapeake Energy, a pioneer of the American shale revolution, declared bankruptcy on Sunday, the biggest US producer to have succumbed in an oil-price crash that is ravaging the country's energy sector. After skipping interest payments this month, and with bonds maturing this year that were last trading for only about 5 cents on the dollar, a Chapter 11 filing was expected sooner rather than later.

Boeing (BA )The International Air Transport Association currently estimates that global passenger air traffic will remain more than 25% below 2019 levels in 2021

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 07:11 AM PDT

With demand depressed to that extent, most airlines have far more aircraft than they will need over the next year. Delivery delays mean that many 737 MAX buyers have the right to cancel certain orders.

As a result, Boeing has finally realized that its plan for a slow ramp-up in 737 MAX production this year was still too aggressive in light of demand. Earlier this month, Spirit AeroSystems announced that on June 4, Boeing had directed it to pause work on four 737 MAX shipsets and avoid starting work on 16 others. Spirit said that it expected that Boeing would ultimately tell it to reduce 2020 output by more than the 20 shipsets affected by the June 4 letter.

Why are short sellers so disliked?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:02 AM PDT

I personally would say I'm a short seller, I love it when stocks go down. Not only is it highly profitable it has that rebel feeling to it. I have found when I mingle with other traders online or off and we discuss methods I always get that oh look when its my turn to say how I like to trade on the market.

Why is it so frowned upon? Or at least not as open as the same as investing when stocks go up?

Are there any other short sellers out there?

My Covid Portfolio Restructure - Mexican-American Stock Meta

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:53 AM PDT

    # The Basic Idea

I'm building a portfolio that revolves around developing a post-covid world. The overarching theme behind these picks American Innovation & Mexican Development. I'm 26 years old and hold a strong conviction that investing in Mexican development will reward me in the decades to come. I'm a software engineer in the US & an avocado farmer in Mexico.

You may see that I avoid some industries in important sectors. These arenas, if compelling enough, would likely be subscribed to a weak ETF that gets contributed to lightly. For example, an oncology ETF if Joe Biden wins the presidency in 2020.

    # Basic Rules

[Reuters] Recovery of euro zone economic sentiment gathers pace in June

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 03:24 AM PDT

Basically Europe is open again (like people can travel internally again) and economy is working again.

I'm writing from Germany, and I can say everything is working but the nightclubs, wearing face masks and social distancing are also globally respected.

Was in France 2 weeks ago, it's working nicely again as well.

Have friends in Spain, Italy, etc... basically same story.

Only very uncertain country: the UK, but these brits don't count as Europe anymore do they.

    Money market accounts and savings

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 05:03 AM PDT

While I understand stashing cash in low interest account is short for bad financial management, what do you typically hold as cash - 3-6 months of expenses? How about in these uncertain times?

What are some better alternatives that you would prefer during this period?

    Late 30s for context.

How are future returns of the index calculated?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:09 AM PDT

Could someone please walk me through a quick example how the CNBC folks and various investors are estimating the future returns of the S&P 500? Is it the earnings yield? or based on historical observations?

I am aware of the CAPE ratio, Shiller P/E and so on... just not sure if every shop has a different take on how future returns are estimated.

    IPOs this week

As all the covid19 financial protections start to end around the country, how long before really see the impact to the economy and markets?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 09:21 PM PDT

As everyone knows $600 weekly unemployment bonus is set to run out at end of July with conservatives currently reluctant to extend the current program. On top of that a lot of states restricted evictions but states are now starting to lift those restrictions.

We are also all aware that we are no where near being over this pandemic with state back tracking a little on lifting restrictions.

So when do we really start to publicly see the impact of this? By this I mean in the markets, economy, and socially. As much as we hear about everything being bad, publicly, individuals seem to going about their everyday life normally, a lot of stocks are near AH, and I'm still seeing a good amount we are hiring ads including the company I work at. So what is everyone's predicted timeline for this whole situation, regardless if you think we have bottomed out or we are going to go back down, I want to hear your predictions.

Nikola (NKLA) Unveils and begins taking preorders for the Badger truck tomorrow as well as announces the date for Nikola World

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 06:50 PM PDT

Just wanted to let people know about tomorrow's Nikola media event. We are going to see a full production model of a fully working Badger truck as well as other exciting news.

Nikola will make two essential announcements on June 29. On that day, the company will reveal when it's hosting Nikola World 2020, an event in which the company promised to show a revolutionary new battery with 500 Wh/kg. Trevor Milton now also stated on Twitter that the Nikola Badger would appear live on the same day.

Reservations for the electric pickup truck will start on June 29. Nikola's CEO promises it will be staged against combustion-engined competitors and will beat all of them. That is something we would certainly like to watch.

The new battery is something Nikola spoke about back in November 2019. Milton did not mention that in his recent tweets, but our obligation is to remember not only that promise but also the details the company later provided about that battery.

In times when SVolt and CATL already announced million-mile batteries before Tesla, Nikola's new cell will make things raise the bar even more for any news the Tesla Battery Day may have to give us. We wonder if the Badger will already be sold with it.

Regarding the electric pickup truck, it seems Milton's tweets about it helped the company's shares soar almost 60 percent. If that is confirmed, we may see Nikola follow the same market behavior Tesla presents when Elon Musk says anything that may impact the company in that social media.

Can there be a market crash if everyone expects it?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 03:00 PM PDT

So many people are turning bearish recently that it seems unlikely for there to be a severe market correction of more than a couple of percentage points. The market is usually unforgiving to bears and if everyone expects a correction then I don't see how that could possibly happen. Can there be a market crash if everyone expects it?

    ETF research recommendations

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 05:54 AM PDT

Hi everyone. I'm looking to dive into the world of ETFs and am looking for recommendations for any books, blogs, individuals, podcasts, and/or research tools people would recommend. I read One Up Wall Street by Peter Lynch a few years ago and really liked that so anything along those lines would be helpful. I'm sure I'll have more questions later, but I want to do my homework first.

I am planning to convert over, soon..which is the main reason for this post. If you read the book, can you please point out the way it helped you become a better investor or trader?

    TQQQ Test Run Website

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 08:40 PM PDT

I am thinking about running TQQQ long term and tracking it on a website. I would like to see if it really is true that you can't hold it long term, and what would happen to the money. I see a lot of posts saying not to do it, and some backtesting says it may work, but the only way is to try it. If it works out I could test some other stocks/ETFs as well. Would anyone be interested in seeing that done? Thanks!

How many of you are investing in Constant?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 05:21 AM PDT

I've dipped my toes in the water over the past few months with some small investments. Tempted to put more in. Wondering who else has done similar.

FYI, Constant is P2P investing - which normally I'd avoid - but the interesting thing is that borrowers put up 150% collateral in crypto. If the value of the crypo declines to within 110% during the loan period, it's automatically sold and you get your lended money back. So it seems pretty safe as a lender, as far as I can tell.

Interest rates are 7% right now.

What Financial Ratios to look at when considering an investment into a food processing firm?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:46 AM PDT

I have been assigned the task of making a presentation for an assignment as part of Corporate Strategy. My choice of firm is a major player in the Indian processed food segment.

Part of the assignment is the determination of which financial ratios would be the best indicators of performance of such a firm and to make a comparison with its competitors.

Could one of you suggest what specific ratios I should be considering apart from the usual indicators of financial health and the rationale. Keep in mind , a comparative review is also part of this assignment with its competitors.

    Thanks in advance!

Is there a P2P lending platform where lenders can offer offers at interest rates?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 04:02 AM PDT

I am looking for a platform that enables me to offer my desired interest rates and does not specify them themself.

For example, where Lender A offers you $ 1000 at an annual interest rate of 12% and Lender B offers you $ 500 at 10%. The borrower could accept a total of $ 1500 at an average interest rate if he accepts both offers.

Do you know such a platform and what are your opinions on this system?

Alternatives to ARK ETFs available in Europe?

    Posted: 28 Jun 2020 04:41 PM PDT

So I really like the ARK ETFs but as far as I know you can't buy them in Europe (except from an international broker or so). Can anyone recommend me similar ETFs available in Europe (Germany)? Just buying all the stocks included in the ETF is not really an option for me.

I particularly like ARKW and ARKG. These ETFs are supposed to serve as the higher risk part in my portfolio and next gen internet and genomic revolution seem to be two sectors with immense growth potential.

Determining how many shares were issued and in the public float at a certain time?

    Posted: 29 Jun 2020 02:39 AM PDT

Is there a way to easily tell how many shares were issued and in the public float at a certain time?

For small/micro cap stocks this is a variable that is very important. I assume it's important for any stock for that matter.

If there is a method besides spending hours going into the reports of each company that would be amazing.
